Spring seats definitely look better. I switched to a spring seat on my '13 Sportster 1200 and love it. Bike came with a pretty stiff suspension and the springs added just the right amount of give to make it comfortable. I'll admit, a bit more cushion for longer rides would be nice, though. 😆
Spring seat for the looks but a lot of days I miss that mustang seat. I'm still debating hard struts but I ride this bike almost daily so I have not taken the plunge yet.
Springs on the seat sounds good. I have a steel tractor seat on my GL1200. It works well but I get a little vibration. Maybe I can mount it with springs.

You probably got the seat angle figured out by now but just in case you haven’t, I changed the springs on the seat out for 5 inch springs on my V Star 1100 bobber and it doesn’t feel like I’m about to slide off the back anymore.
A stack of washers ended up doing the trick. I still can run it for more than 2 hours before it becomes a pain but I couldn't with the stock seat either.
I have a kit from Chopper Supply LLC which includes 8" over forks and new triples to rake the front an additional 14 degrees. Once that goes on I was thinking of giving hard struts a try.
Cool mod. I have a 98 750 ACE, I'd have to use a slightly different wire management strategy as I have a chain drive and I don't think a wire zip tied to the chain would end well. lol
Thanks friend! Jan 2022 I was about 280lbs and got down to 205lbs by July 2022. Currently sitting around 230-235. I'm right about 6' and at 205 I had people say I was too skinny. If I can get back down to 220 or so I'll be happy.
Great looking build, I am planning on doing something similar on my 05 shadow aero and this was a great visualization of what it could look like! That spring seat you used looks quite nice, could you tell me what seat it is, and do you find it comfortable?
The seat is from Blue Collar Bobbers. It is not as comfortable as the stock seat but for that style it is pretty decent. Trust me though, after about 2 hours I'm ready to get off and stretch my legs.
How do you like the six inch extensions? I was thinking about getting them for my 06 spirit 750. Does it still handle well on curvy roads? I live in the Rocky Mountains so corners are a must. Does it feel wobbly or anything weird?? Thanks in advance!
At first the steering will probably feel a little "heavier" if that makes sense. After about 15 minutes I got use to it and could whip the bike around like I use to. Slow speed turning may feel a little unstable but that was mainly parking lot moves and u-turns. All in all they felt pretty solid. I only took them off because I went with extended forks and a chopper rake kit from ChopperSupplyLLC.

Making it what you want is part of the fun of having a bike. I'm trying to make my Spirit look more like an ACE... you wouldn't happen to want to sell your original rear fender and the associated chrome bits etc would you? I think I'll do an ACE rear end, leave my Spirit large front wheel in place- then do some passing lights- kind of a strange mix of ACE and Spirit.
Before I bobbed mine out I ran a Spirit front fender for a while. The large rear Aero fender just looked odd. Also I really don't want the hassle of trying to ship the rear and have no idea if it will even bolt up.
On your Spirit I'm not sure. On my Aero I went with 12" apes (wider ones) using the factory 2" risers and only had to replace the clutch cable. I know as far as the Aeros go 10" bars work fine with a little re-routing of the stock cables.
BlueCollarBobbers front fender was added after (I have a stand alone video just for that). What was installed at the time was a Spirit fender on the Aero bracket. When that was installed I didn't record it, same with the seat. BlueCollarBobbers has an excellent install video of their seat so I just point people in their direction.
The bars are 12" ape hangers from J&P Cycles. Throttle cables are stock, the clutch cable came from Mean Cycles. A lot of people buy them from Motion Pro which seems to be the most cost effective option.

Very carefully. The front of the fender is narrower than the rear but if I remember right I just squeezed it through. You could always remove the front wheel and then remove the fender but that has its own challenges if you don't have a jack/lift.
@@RyanDavis-g8t I also had TJBRUTALCUSTOMS fork extensions installed as well so I had a little extra width between the forks because the bottom of the fork covers sat higher than the factory position.
I have not installed the struts yet. The original cheap set from Amazon did not fit but I have another set (also from Amazon) that look like they might work without drilling out the mounting holes.
I totally agree with this sentiment. There's a good looking and safe bike and then some bobber/cafe racer chad comes along and makes it ugly and les safe.

The fender is horrible, those brackets are ugly. I really don't like the emplacement of the rear light nor it's form. Making a bobber is alright but buying plastic shits from Amazon/Aliexpress to built a generic bike makes no sense. You gotta work a bit more than drilling three holes to install junk on it...

The only reason I will never sell my ACE is the fear that someone will want to make a Bobber out of it.
Stock, that bike has 6mm allen seat bolts. If you ever changed a rear tire, you'd know about the axle spacers.

What size apes? I picked up some Amazon special ones in 10in but I have 1 inch risers. How far could I push these wires without getting extended ones

Thickness of the frame did not allow enough thread for the nut to be tightened down correctly if I remember right.

The apes are 12". I'm right about 6' and my hands sit even/slightly below my shoulders. Personally I find them extremely comfortable.

I chopped out an '84 VT700 including a 40 degree rack.
I turned my 1983 shadow 750 into a bobber because everything was beoken on it. Lots of work ya'll. I know the caeb like the back of my hand now ;)
I can imagine trying to find replacement parts for anything on a 83 would be a challenge.
