I had a *mentally* very challenging week. Many many ups and downs of happy/sad/stressed/frustrated. It was just one of those weeks.
I share these really vulnerable moments with all of you hoping that I can help at least one person.
Life can be really difficult and make every single day a living battle, but I'm right here in it with you.
If you guys need a space to talk about things you're going through, please use this comment area for it. Your comment might really help someone fight what they're going through.
I love you so much fam. Thanks for allowing me the platform to share these personal moments with you.

I'm an OMS-III as well but in the NE, and I think you describe it perfectly. The mental juggling, the doubt, the struggle to appreciate ourselves and feel like we're doing enough. Its hard sometimes to portray this to those not going through it exactly as well. Regardless, thank you for showing this and allowing me to feel like I'm not alone sometimes.

Rachel, great job on the cath. I did my first one as a 3rd cardiology resident☺️ I am pretty sure you will be able to achieve whatever you want because you put the time and effort in. Don’t be too hard on yourself, it will be fine😊

The advice I have for you is to never give up. Though it might be stressful if you quit you’ll never win, you’ll never become a doctor. The key to success is failure.
Some people want it to happen, some wish it could happen, others make it happen.

Aww I’m sorry you had a rough week. I’m only a pre med but when I have a lot of a assignments to do and life to deal with it can be overwhelming so you’re not alone. I love that you have such great coping mechanisms for situations like this. Just remember you’re doing so much better you’re feeling. You’ve got this Rachel 💜

Forever appreciating how honest and real you are when sharing your journey in medicine. It is SO frustrating when you can feel yourself struggling mentally and try to work through it by breathing, exercising, etc, and yet nothing seems to help. I can relate to these highs and lows so much, and sometimes the best thing to do is just cry it out! I believe in you Rachel, you have the biggest heart and you will get through this just as you have overcome so many challenges before

Hopefully, I'm not late in sending this message, but the thing that helps me a lot is writing everything down on a piece of paper, every detail of thoughts, as this helps to notice when things get overwhelming and when you're spiralling. Plus, writing helps me to realise that these are just thoughts and protects me from being overcome and let them pass as they are. You're doing so well Rachel, you've got this! sending love to all! ❤️

Thank you for this Rachel❤ my week has been crazy busy, stressful, overwhelming and overall rough- and it's only Tuesday! I went for a run to blow off some steam and got a hot chicken from the store for supper. Feeling alright right now, but thank you for this. I hope you have a better week this week❤❤

Gf this vlog resonated with me so much because that was me this week. Working 40h weeks while studying for the mcat and still not feeling like I’m performing well has taken a significant toll, also the fact that my life revolves around working and studying. Thank you for posting these moments, makes me feel less alone.

Rachel, I don't know the medical school stress, but I have been where you are now to struggle mentally. Going to therapy really helped me overcome my anxiety and compassion fatigue. I am happy that you have found a bond with your colleagues and peers, but please don't forget to connect with those who really know you. They remind you of how awesome and intelligent you are, and how you can persevere. We all love you Rachel, you are doing amazing things for yourself, your community, and the world here on TH-cam. Feelings like this aren't permanent, you are going to feel better, sending all my love to you

I just had hip surgery yesterday but I’d been putting it off for almost a year just to focus on school and getting ready to apply to med school, but I’m so glad that I’m taking the time to take care of myself. I hope you can find a balance between being a med student and also prioritizing your mental health! You got this, we are red ants🐜

I know I’m not in the same boat as you, but I work full time and Im going to school full time. I am often having to wake up at 3:30 am for work after studying and doing class work the night before. I find when I am getting emotional like this and maybe not doing as well as I would like on my class work and studying, putting the books down and getting a few good nights rest helps put me in a better frame of mind. Im in a better mood, I feel better physically, and I do better both at work and school. Its really amazing what exhaustion can look like

    ✨Take Aways✨
Remember to be still if you ever have any stress. Stillness is a recognition of power. It’s as simple as a mental yes or no. Being overwhelmed is normal there’s a lot of information and not all of it is valuable. Take inventory of how you feel. It should be easy and fun, not hard and complicated.

I've been in the same situation as you of being extremely isolated and stressed from schoolwork that doesn't allow me to do the things I actually enjoy for a long time now, so watching your vlogs have been a source of comfort and inspiration for me. They're definitely worth it , so thank you for being transparent, makes me feel like I'm actually not suffering alone! Have you tried meeting once or twice weekly with some classmates to study? Connection with people pursuing the same goals always seems to help me.

I love the realness. And I can definitely relate. Also love your message that we should normalize being able to express our emotions and be human. I’m in a dental hygiene program in my last semester and I still have locker room cries. Sometimes I wish I could push it off until I’m at home and can comfortably have a good healthy cry, but that’s not how my body works. You just gotta get it out whenever it’s needed. And if you’re not struggling at some point or another, you’re probably not being challenged enough. So that means you’re doing great! And you’re a wonderful human being with natural feelings. Thanks for inspiring me and so many others to keep pushing, keep learning, and never give up on your dreams no matter how hard the challenge. And for letting me and others know it’s okay to cry. 💕 💕 💕

Thank you for sharing this! I know it's hard when you're so busy to take time for yourself. Do you have any breaks coming up? Maybe having something to look forward to like a beach day could help! I know that when I'm in the thick of it, I set my mind to an event I'm looking forward to. Every day that goes by is another day closer to my free day.
You're an inspiration. Keep pushing. You got this!

Last 10 days have been living dead for me. It’ s so hard now that I’ m in my last semester of dental school. I’ ve been postponing my exams and now is just pure chaos. But nevermind, today was a fresh start for me. Trying to get in a loop of studying and do the best that I can.
We have to aware ourselves and stop exhausting our body and soul because of the things we want that are doing us harm such as toxic productivity. We should be greatful and appreciate our lives and everyone in it more then just unidimensionalize ourselves from everything. I know we have to study and do our best but our body and soul also need to be fed so we should think about that too.
And don’ t forget people, you are so loved and capable of anything you set your mind to.
    Love x

It makes you so so relatable and I am ngl I clicked on this video because I was having a rough day (and I'm in my 3rd year as well) and it just feels nice to cry together and have someone to relate to.

:( bless your heart. it’s more than okay to struggle and find it difficult to keep going but it is so reassuring to know that everyone you look up to has experienced/is experiencing moments like these and hard weeks or months. just know you’ve come out alive before and you could do it again. reach out to someone you can lean on. we always think we have all the answers but it’s still nice to feel seen and validated. so much is on your plate and yet you are still succeeding. you’re genuinely incredible and you’re only human. humans have emotions and can only try their best. one day at a time. sending you love

Hi Rachel, thank you for sharing these vulnerable moments with us. Something that always seems to help when I'm feeling overwhelmed is spending time in nature even if it's just for a short walk or eating a snack outside and getting some sun. I also love listening to music, especially Mild Orange's song "This Kinda Day" It makes me remember that everyone has tough days and that these feelings are not permanent it will soon pass. Just know that we care about you so much and thank you for always putting content out there even when you have so many other things to do. I hope you give the song a listen and I hope it helps! 💛

I remember observing in the cath lab on one of my pharmacy school rotations and seeing how crazy difficult it can be to understand what you’re seeing on screen (this was also the same day I saw a patient code in the cath lab and an Impella had to be emergently placed… so scary and crazy watching the team jump into action!). Thank you for the vulnerability and for sharing these tough moments with us. As an M1 it can be very demoralizing to see my peers/internet influencers constantly show only the fun/good parts of medical school. Your vlogs really help me feel less alone and know that it's ok to struggle and feel all the feelings. Much love from South Carolina

Sharing your ups and down with us means so much. I perceive you as a person that has her life together and is always happy. You’re doing so much with your life and completing goals. I’m in graduate school right now but I’m only doing that and I always feel like a failure. I could be doing so much more but my anxiety gets in the way of me living my life. I like how you said everyone goes through ups and downs because it made me feel like I’m not alone.

I mean I can’t say that I totally understand what you are going through cause I am not experiencing it the way you are but I want you to know that we are here for you maybe you don’t know all of us but every time you post a video we sympathize with you. ❤️❤️

Hi Rachel! I just want to say thank you for showing what it means to be brave. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to share true vulnerability on the internet but just know how impactful you are being in doing so. I go to your sister school up in Oregon (I’m a first year!) and I always watch your videos for the authenticity you display and the heart you pour into everything you do. Sometimes it’s hard to stay grounded through it all but we just keep on chugging along don’t we! Lol and sometimes that’s all we can do, and it’s hard, and we’re lonely/isolated, but at the end of the day we can lay our heads down knowing that we’re doing everything we can to leave the world a better place than when we found it and what more can we ask from life anyway?! ❤️🌺

Oh Rachel, don’t be sad. 3rd and 4th year r like a wild roller coaster ride. Ur up then down. Coming from a rotation u want to career in to one u don’t really care about is like grieving a loss. This will pass. The more u interact the more u will want to. It’s a whole new world ur stepping into. I’m so glad u use ur platform to discuss these ups and downs. There r med students everywhere who probably think it only happens to them. Ur a blessing young lady and we r all right here with u.

Just now watching this ! We had our 3rd round of block exams (out of 5 + finals) Monday and about took everything out of me. I did not feel like doing anything after and definitely felt isolated here. I’m a new student at my school despite being a MS2, but I am so looking forward to clinical rotations. Your channel has always been inspiring and thank you for sharing your struggle; we all feel that way at times and it’s part of the human experience. Stay strong Rachel 💪, we’ve got you !

    My heartrate rarely dips below 100 bpm when i'm in class/on campus. My resting heartrate is a bit high, at 74, but stress is so killer ;n;

I'm a medical coder and cardiology is my main specialty. It is HARD. So I can't even imagine being the Dr and having to know all the anatomy and having to diagnose someone period but especially cardio.
