Have done Iyengar for 15 years, but have not gone to classes for over a year with hip and other issues meaning I couldn’t do a full 1.25 hr class. I try to do a little regularly but have had a bad few months. This evening I did this routine and intend to do the 19 days. This Beginner class is great because of my stiffness issues and I have plenty of props from my years of doing yoga.
Hello Susan. We are so pleased that you have found that you can rediscover your enjoyment of Iyengar yoga through these videos. If you find that some of the classic poses are still a bit too challenging for your hip, have a look at this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLLTwDvdKnrC4tOukeolPylhfPWOjcad5B.html , which has been devised with the stiffer body in mind. Let us know how you get on! Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Hi Fairy Queen. The 19 Days are now fairly old films and our A/V is much better now. However, when Covid hit, we had to teach separately and since then, we have had so much extra tech work to deal with at the studio that we have still not been able to teach together online again. But we do have a huge back catalogue (check out the playlists) and we are planning to get back to teaching together again soon 🤞. Let us know how you get on with the yoga! Namaste 🙏 Lin and Leo
Thanks for the lovely comment Poonam. We feel that it is very important to keep the purity in the study and dissemination of yoga as a discipline. We take it very seriously, although we also find deep joy in our practice and teaching of the subject, which we hope is expressed through our videos. Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Thanks for the comment MrAntpre. We are glad you are enjoying the voiceover. :) We look forward to hearing how you get on with the rest of the series! Namaste Lin and Leo
Hi. Thanks so much for the lovely comment. We are so pleased that you enjoyed the practice, as we too enjoy the slow, precise work that was the hallmark of B.K.S Iyengar's work. Have a look at our playlists for other sequences! Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Hello to all our lovely viewers. This is written in response to the query by Shipra (and others) about the subtitles interfering with your view of the asanas (poses). You can remove the subtitles altogether by clicking on the Closed Captions button. [CC]. The [CC] button might be either in the top right or the bottom right of your screen, depending on your device. Some devices will allow you to click and drag the subtitles so you can still have them on, but can move them to a more convenient part of the screen. If in doubt, look up your particular device and ask on the internet how it interacts with TH-cam. We are not all that technically-minded and we haven't tested this out on all the many different devices there are out there in the world, but we hope this helps. Lin and Leo ☺️
Love this sequence playlist you’re doing! It’s great for me to practice at home. However, after following this video I found that I didn’t stay in some postures for enough time. It’d be better if the videos are a bit longer. I felt like I was rushing.
Thanks for the lovely comment Erin. We are delighted that you are finding it useful for home practice. : ) These videos are longer practices: th-cam.com/video/NUKvH7VUfmM/w-d-xo.html. We are trying to get over some technical problems we have with making longer videos and hope to put more out later in the year. Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on! Namaste Lin and Leo.
Thanks for the comment Al. You are very welcome, we are glad that we can do something to help people during this challenging time. Do let us know how you get on. Namaste 🙏. Lin and Leo
Thank you for this, I tried the first session yesterday as obviously not going to my iyengar classes at the gym at the moment #covid19. Your session was very easy to follow and all but 1 of the positions were familiar to me and what I’d do in my previous class. I need to get some pads though as don’t have any at home. Thanks again - I’m going to continue with these sessions. 🙂
Hi Madj. We would recommend that you get a basic yoga kit, (see our video on yoga equipment th-cam.com/video/cbhYbj3E6Us/w-d-xo.html for more details of what you need). But in the meantime, use folded blankets/towels in place of pads and a dressing gown cord or tie for a belt. We hope this helps. Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Hello Himashree. Have a look at our Introductory Course playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLLTwDvdKnrC6sWDlaeynjjhR89GFrwer_.html and our sequences for Complete Beginners. th-cam.com/play/PLLTwDvdKnrC6TA9-uIvZld60xWrWCmYpn.html. Let us know if you find these more accessible. Keep practicing, even if you cannot do everything, replace it with an action you can do. The physical and mental strength will come with time. Lin and Leo
wonderful practise and great feeling after shavasana, that was spoild by 5times louder advertisment, that made all my nervous system shake in terror. May be you coul put the time of add at the beginning, please?
Hello and thanks for letting us know about this. TH-cam have changed the way they place ads and we have a large back catalogue of videos and not enough time to go through them all to check. We have changed the settings on this film so that there should only be an ad at the front end now. If you could check this for us and let us know, we would be grateful. Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Hello JP. Thanks for the comment. Have a look at the videos in this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLLTwDvdKnrC7VEZ59Y37hbgHce7J0QWlX.html. If you have been doing yoga for less than 5 years then it will be best to stick to the Beginners sequences. Do let us know how you get on with this format - these are shortened versions of the videos we release each week for our students at the Maidstone Yoga Centre. If you still find the length of time in poses too short, we will have a look at some of our back catalogue to see what is there! Lin and Leo
Hello Ankita. You can turn off the subtitles by clicking on the CC button. On a mobile device this is in the top right hand corner of the screen, on a laptop or computer it is on the bottom right. If you want to keep the subtitles, but do not want them to obscure the bottom part of the screen, TH-cam allows you to do this. You can just click and drag them to another part of the screen. We do hope this helps. Lin and Leo 🙏
Thanks for the comment Tino! You can turn off the subtitles by clicking on the CC button at the bottom right of the screen, or if you want to keep them on, you can move them by clicking and dragging them. The closed captions position is a TH-cam option, not our design or choice, but please do let us know if this helps. Lin and Leo
Hi thanks for your instructive sessions. I would like to know how long (period of time) should one be in a particular pose, to make the pose efficient.
Hello Arif. Thanks for your interesting comment. The length of time spent in any pose depends on your experience, your fitness, the sequence and the aim. Generally speaking the standing poses will be held for 30 seconds to 1 minute on each side. With the inversions, we build to 5-10 minutes in the pose. We hope that this helps. Lin and Leo 🙏
Hi A.G. You are very welcome and we are delighted that you are enjoying them! If you haven't already done so, check out our recently released "18 Days of Yoga" via the following playlist. th-cam.com/play/PLLTwDvdKnrC4Lq0GLKne5_3xC951vukoT.html Let us know how you get on. Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Hello Krishna. This is a TH-cam setting on your device. You can turn off the subtitles by clicking on the CC button at the bottom right of the screen, or if you want to keep them on, you can move them by clicking and dragging them. The closed captions are a TH-cam thing rather than our design or choice, but please do let us know if this helps. Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Thanks so much for your comments Cindy. Well done for getting on this today! Please do let us know how you get on as you go through the 19 days. Namaste Lin and Leo😊
Thank you for you efforts, in corona times it’s so valuable. But please can you place the under titles in a way that they do not hide the positions (maybe at the top of the screen)??!!!???
Hello Annie, thanks for watching and thanks for the lovely comment!
I have been using you videos every day since March. They have been so helpful. I have been recently diagnosed with arthritis in the neck and have stopped doing head stand. Are there any other poses that are bad or good for my condition?
Hello Elizabeth. We are delighted that you have found the channel useful. Given your recent diagnosis, we would recommend that you register with us: www.iyengar-yoga.co.uk and come to one of the Remedial and Recovery classes on a Friday with Lin. You are right to be avoiding head stand but you do need to work in different ways with a number of poses to ensure that you treat your neck in a way that ensures no damage. We do hope that this helps. Lin and Leo
Hello Meena. I am looking at this on my phone so can’t get the captions but I suspect that the automatically generated captions may be the problem here! What we are saying is “in Uttanasana (the standing forward bend), take the outer edges of the feet to the outer edges of the mat.” In other words, take the feet wide; to the width of the mat. We hope this helps. 😊. Namaste 🙏. Lin and Leo.
Hello, thanks for watching!
Don't worry - we are not even vaguely techy - we just muddle through, and it took us ages to work out how to get rid of the subtitles from the screen when we first started the channel! Glad that you are enjoying the content. (Even more so hopefully now you can see it!) Namaste. Lin and Leo🙏
Hi Padmavathy.
Thanks for posting that Yulian! Lots of viewers don't realise that they have the subtitles switched on and that it is a TH-cam default. Much appreciated. Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
As yet we haven't done a sequence with long holds but we will look into it and maybe put something up in the next few weeks. Thanks for the suggestion! Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Спасибо за комментарий. Вы можете отключить субтитры, нажав кнопку CC в правом нижнем углу экрана, или, если вы хотите оставить их включенными, вы можете переместить их, щелкнув и перетащив их. Hi Mallika. If you have a look in the Description below the video you will see a list of asanas there. You have to scroll down a little way but we do try to put a list of poses with every sequence. We do hope this helps! Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Thank you for the video. In the pose on the 12.00 minute onwards, is the lowerback raised in the classic position? Do we need to keep holding the ankles?
Hello Sadaf. If you are able to keep hold of the ankles in Supta Baddha Konasana then do. When you first work in the asana, the lower back may lift, but you are aiming to let the sacrum release towards the floor so that no tension is being held in the body. We hope this helps! Lin and Leo
Hello Amee. if you go onto the 19 Days of Yoga playlist th-cam.com/play/PLLTwDvdKnrC5GGGEhq_u2TFX3evL2JMov.html you can progress from Day One through the series. If you go to the home page of our channel th-cam.com/channels/vDc7jgAYAjbNqvWjbovVQw.htmlfeatured you will see the Playlists section which will enable you to access the other Days of Yoga series. We hope this helps. Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Please, boost your audio level output in the editing software when editing the video. I have a MacBookPro, which has pretty nice speakers and volume levels, but even at full throttle, I could hardly hear anything being said when I was doing this. It's sad because I want to learn this style of yoga and at my newness in it, I need to hear whatever is being said. I can't do that with this out put. I make videos on another channel (not this one) and I boost the audio in editing all the way up in most cases (I don't take it all the way if the output is already much higher than usual, but I still will boost it!!!) People can always turn volume down, but there's nothing that can be done if the volume is already at full mast on the device used and the audio is still painfully low.
Delighted you are keen to learn more about the Iyengar method although we are sorry for the low sound. Thank you for pointing this out ... We will certainly look to improve the volume for future videos. Meanwhile you may find the Free trial sequences on our website myyogatutor.com will work well for you. Namaste Lin and Leo 🙏
Hello Isha. Have a look at our blog on "Yoga and Weight Loss" by following this link: www.iyengar-yoga.co.uk/yoga-blog/. Yoga works in mysterious ways! Let us know how you get on. Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Hi Lin and leo. I luckily bumped into your channel and already loving it so far. I have recently developed an interest into yog and practicing from couple of days. It's a complete lockdown here. Won't be able to search a physical yoga guru in these times. Request you to please suggest me some program so that I can practice at home.
Hello. We are so glad that you have found yoga, some good things can come of these difficult times. We would recommend that you start with our Introduction to Yoga: th-cam.com/play/PLLTwDvdKnrC6sWDlaeynjjhR89GFrwer_.html You can repeat this series several times before moving on to our various Days of Yoga series. If you check out the Playlists section on the home page of our channel th-cam.com/channels/vDc7jgAYAjbNqvWjbovVQw.html you will be able to access all the series we have done. Let us know how you get on with your home practice and once the lockdown is over, do try and find yourself an Iyengar yoga teacher locally to you. Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Thanks so much for the great comment Paulina and we are delighted that you enjoyed the sequence. We will have a new Series out in January 2020 to celebrate next year's National Iyengar Yoga Day. It starts on 1 January and will be called "18 Days of Yoga". If you subscribe and click on notifications, it will let you know when each new film comes out. Let us know how you get on! Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Hello. Lin holds a Senior Level 3 Iyengar Yoga certificate. She is also an assessor, who examines Introductory Iyengar yoga teachers and those taking Intermediate levels in the UK. The Maidstone Iyengar Yoga Centre which Lin opened 10 years ago, was personally approved as an Iyengar institute by B K S Iyengar some years before he died. Leo holds an Intermediate Level 3 certificate and has been working as a full time Iyengar teacher for eleven years. You can check out our certification on the IYAUK site. Hope that this helps! Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Namaste. I found this video so amazing, so helpful. As I am so fond of Iyengar yoga and have been doing postures getting guidance from Light on Yoga by One and only Gurujee. I recently got a problem of Supraspinatous tendinosis, sub acromial sub deltoid bursitis and joint effusion in gleno-humeral joint. Don't know why it happened and I'm losing weight. Can I continue Yoga postures with this video? Need your opinion it'll be so helpful. 🙏
Hello Dheeraj. We would recommend that, under these circumstances you see your doctor for advice, particularly regarding the weight loss. We are delighted that you have been using Light on Yoga, which, we would agree, is the fundamental book for yoga practice, but remember, the asana work here is designed for a fit and healthy body. Once Lockdown is over, find an Iyengar teacher who in your area who is qualified to teach medical classes and they will look at how you are working and advise what modifications of asanas are appropriate. In the meantime, we appreciate that most people are unable to access normal services at the moment, so would suggest that for the time being, you focus on a more theraputic practice, avoiding any arm actions or balancings which give you pain. Have a look at this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLLTwDvdKnrC5jN8a_jr8kWOTC-aeRIALL.html and let us know how you get on. Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Hello Lin and Leo, I am so thankful to have found you. Do you recommend these yogas for preparing the body for conception ? Could you recommend some specific yoga positions to increase fertility ??
Hello Tina. Thanks so much for watching. We don't give out advice online. However, if you have an issue, we would strongly recommend that you find an Iyengar teacher near to you who is qualified to teach therapy classes so you can get specific guidance in this matter. As a general rule, to improve hormonal balance, doing general sequences like the above, and restorative work will be very useful. Have a look at this sequence: th-cam.com/video/HfgKLzdXRt8/w-d-xo.html and you can include it into your practice regime once a week. We do hope that this helps and please let us know how you get on! Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏

Your use of yoga bricks is very good. But this jumping business that you are doing is not part of yoga at all. Yoga does not encourage jurky movements.
Hello Vrinda. Thank you for your comment. We are so pleased you have enjoyed the use of the props. We don’t encourage jerky movements in asana, even in the jumping sequences. In Iyengar yoga we generally work slowly and deliberately to create precision and alignment, so that each asana has an internalised logic. However, the jumpings can also be an important part of an Iyengar yoga practice. They are not appropriate for complete beginners or where there is injury, but these more dynamic movements increase pliability in the body , can cut through the tamas (inertia), and develop strength in the mind. When we teach these general online classes, we are working on the annamaya kosa, (the gross frame or anatomical sheath) and the jumping sequences can help penetrate this layer. Asana is used in the Iyengar system of teaching to activate and purify the body, working towards a harmony of mind, body and spirit. The more dynamic actions can be a necessary part of this process for some. We hope this clarifies why we include the jumpings in some of our sequences, but if you have any queries, please do get in touch. Lin and Leo
Hello. Thanks so much for the interesting comment. Within the discipline of Iyengar Yoga, following the advice of our guru, B.K.S. Iyengar, we only offer outlines on breath control. We generally don't offer much more advice to our Beginner students than to keep breathing through the nostrils. The minutiae of breath control whilst working in Asana is restricted to more advanced students. This is because to focus on all the physical directions as well as breath instructions proves too difficult for most students. After practicing for some years, the breath follows naturally from correct alignment and from the commencement of the practice of Pranayama. We do hope that this brief explanation of a complex issue makes sense! Lin and Leo

Lin and Leo
Thanks both, quite a "pacey" little session - invigorating! The detailed voice over works really well too. Looking forward to tomorrow😀
Noel
Thank you Noel for your comments. This is great! Look forward to hearing how you get on :) Namaste Lin and Leo
In the 1st pose u say arthritis of the feet to the arthritis of the mat what's that u actually said
Hello Meena.
@@YogawithLinandLeo thanks lady I think it's outer edge that must be the difference of pronunciation thanks a lot
Your subtitles are covering the bodies and we are not able to see.
Please keep subtitles above....or keep space below while filming for the subtitles
Hello, thanks for watching!
Thanks. Guess ...I am not that good with technology.
I liked your content. Keep up the good work.
Hi, thank you for the video, unable to see the postures properly due to the subtitle which runs at the bottom of the video.
Hi! You can turn the subtitles off, it's a TH-cam option. That way you can see the video fully.
Hi Padmavathy.
Thanks for posting that Yulian! Lots of viewers don't realise that they have the subtitles switched on and that it is a TH-cam default. Much appreciated. Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Is there such a thing as Yin Iyengar with a longer "hold" in each pose?
As yet we haven't done a sequence with long holds but we will look into it and maybe put something up in the next few weeks. Thanks for the suggestion! Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
What a lovely flow, thank you!
Thanks so much for the lovely comment. Try the 19 days and let us know how you get on! Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏😊

Hi Mallika. If you have a look in the Description below the video you will see a list of asanas there. You have to scroll down a little way but we do try to put a list of poses with every sequence. We do hope this helps! Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Great
Thanks and glad you are enjoying the sequences. Namaste. Lin and Leo
Lin and Leo
How do I get the next day video?
Hello Amee. if you go onto the 19 Days of Yoga playlist th-cam.com/play/PLLTwDvdKnrC5GGGEhq_u2TFX3evL2JMov.html you can progress from Day One through the series.

You are welcome Sonia, delighted you are enjoying the videos Namaste Lin and Leo
That was excellent. Thank you
Thanks so much for the great comment Paulina and we are delighted that you enjoyed the sequence.
Are you certified Iyengar instructors? Thanks.
Have a look at this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLLTwDvdKnrC5jN8a_jr8kWOTC-aeRIALL.html
and let us know how you get on.
Have a look at this sequence: th-cam.com/video/HfgKLzdXRt8/w-d-xo.html
and you can include it into your practice regime once a week. We do hope that this helps and please let us know how you get on! Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏
Thank you for this.
You are very welcome. Let us know how you get on! Namaste. Lin and Leo 🙏

Lin and Leo
No guide on breathing🫤
Lin and Leo
