So glad you made this video. I just bought a 2022 Tracer 9GT and knew that thing had to be restricted. I too put the Akropovic exhaust on yesterday. As soon as air filters are available I will be sending you my ECU.
Fantastic video - I got my 2021 MT09sp tuned in April after fitting the akrapovič exhaust & DNA air filter. Same engine as this Tracer 9 GT. Mine was doing 103hp at the rear wheel before, and doing 116hp after, and went from 77Nm of torque to 91Nm at the rear wheel. All settings were unrestricted (but throttle was left to reduce back to 80% in engine D-Mode 4).
You did my 2016 FJ-09 over the summer. Really love that 3 cylinder sound. There are just a few pops left in the muffler which makes it sound pretty cool. I probably got the same 8 or so HP improvement that this bike got, but the smoother ride it totally worth it.
I like the sound so much I bought a BRAND NEW 2021 MT09SP. and also put the Akrapovic exhaust on it. One of the best of all time sounding street engines out there. LOVE IT!!
Wordy story: Back in May I was riding by the beach. The son of the owner of the motorcycle shop where I got my '22 Hayabusa that same month was in a restaurant nearby. He recognized my 'Busa when I rode by the restaurant, so he got on his bike to catch up to me. I didn't know he was there, and I didn't even know he rode. He only sold me the 'Busa and was super attentive and nice. I did find he rode when out of the blue I hear this menacing, intimidating, and loud three-cylinder engine aggressively hitting the rev-limiter behind me. Startled me silly. He was riding his '21 MT-09. It had a full Akrapovic titanium system. If you didn't know about those bikes, you'd think that one had at least 200 HP. I truly felt I was riding the slower bike. 😄
Interesting! Zack Courts (Revzilla) just tested an XSR900 a couple days ago which is basically a mechanical twin to this. He commented on the throttle response in the lower gears and that you can feel that it's quite restricted. Guess his butt dyno is spot on! I even commented on that video that the bike needed to go to mooremafia!
I have a 2024 tracer 9gt plus Put the same Akropovic exhaust on it. Sounds fantastic and it's not that loud. Listen to music in my helmet all the time. I am looking into some tuning though because you can really feel the throttle restriction for me especially in second gear. My 18 mot09 hit way harder off the bottom. But I love this bike!!!
The Flash seems more functional than for power gains... which are obviously minimal. Kudos to Yamaha for getting most of the power to the customer in spite of restrictions these days!
Not only is it a three cylinder Chris, but it’s a CP3… Crossplain three cylinder. That accounts for some of the beautiful sound… The crossplane crankshaft.
Akra doesn't look too bad on the Tracer, looks like 💩 on the mt09, sticks out way too far and slip-on too long on the naked mt. There are several others I like for mt. I would put a yosh on my new gen mt09 but they are taking FOREVER to get it produced! Arrow makes a couple of nice systems although they still aren't short and tucked in like new Yosh AT2 for new mt. We have a couple great tuners up here in the Seattle area, all the good systems make within like 1hp of each other.
Hard to say, but when I was researching my MT09, I was always told that it was electronically limited to 135 with the stock tune. I think Chris said 150 something miles per hour with the stock tune. Not true. Electronically limited to 135
Interesting. I find it very useless being that there are so many variables bike to bike that real world top speed has nothing to do with the theoretical.
@@maxon18s you are absolutely right! What way the direction of the wind is going, if you're fully tucked or not, your weight, ect ect. But that being said every GSX-R 600 bro swears that their bike does 190mph lol. So when the theoretical top speed is only 160mph that will settle the debate. But I also enjoy seeing top possible speed's of all bike's. It's just fun for me.
In 15 years on my Suzuki 1200S, I hit redline less than 1% of my riding time and that seems to be where most of the gains are. I couldn't justify the cost of full new exhaust and tune unless I was on a track every weekend.
I agree the stock exhaust on the MT09 is a keeper..who wants to wake up the neighborhood each time you start your bike.. plus loud pipes help the cops find you much faster vs a quiet bike they may not even notice fly by..
FOr the Euro5 compliant (2021-on) Tracer 9 GT and MT-09: Actually the CEL/MIL light WILL eventually go out on it's own after 20 to 80 miles of driving and three to four key cycles! Guaranteed! Stored codes will however remain in the ECM (approx. 10 after a flash tune). Now, it's of course easier to hook up the reader and delete the codes. The same reader Chris sells can be bought on amazon for $15 and the Euro5 dongle for $12. Also, as long as the CEL/MIL light is on you cannot change any drive modes and access the menus.
Love it whish your shop was close to me , sounds totally different after tune🎉😂😂😂 epic I was holding off buying a tracer because I didn't know if I could make it sound like that
@@mathias6423 I did. 2021 Tracer 9 GT. Yoshimura exhaust was too loud until I purchased and installed their sound insert (dB reducer). Had the ECU flashed by a more local company in the PNW. I absolute HATE the disabling of the closed-throttle fuel cut. In D-mode 1, it’s downright unnerving trying to set up for corners. I may try to send it back to have them re-enable it, it’s so bad. I couldn’t recommend it to anyone. Overall, the bike lost a little weight, and has improved throttle response and sound. And in D-mode 2, even the disabled fuel cutoff is almost livable, though I could do without all the pops and burbles. (What do they think this is, a high schooler’s Civic?)
@@twowheeledtaz Haha, damn man. I am sorry to hear it did not work out for you this time. Yeah I have heard both sides of the fence about disabling that fuel cut off when closing the throttle. All in all not everything that they can unlock or disable in the ECU means that it is a positive thing for everyone. I would also like you, not want to disable it. I think it is there and enabled for a good reason. For me I want something louder than the Yoshimura for having fun with friends, hooning around at weekends but then I am putting on a quieter solution for that one huge trip I do once every year.
@@twowheeledtaz You did not change your air filter to a better, bigger one to match your new exhaust ? Would make the bike run better after adding it to a map in the ECU with the full exhaust. I have heard and seen people putting different stages of tuning on the MT-09 engine. Like they have MT-09 Stage 3 kits and so on. I wonder what kind of tuning people are making to these bikes besides the usual air filter and full exhaust system with an ECU map. One guy on youtube that has , what he calls it , "Stage 1" on his tracer 900 states in his description that he has something called "Velocity Performance Caps" among other things. I wonder what that could be ? Some kind of bigger and better air filter perhaps ? I wonder what the maximum power is that people have got out of this engine without doing something extremely expensive like adding a turbo kit to the engine. I would love to have Yamahas reliability instead of a KTM Super Duke GT that would worry me traveling through Europe. But I would want as much power as possible with the Tracer 900.
Yeah as tempting as the exhaust change is I LOVE my bike is quiet enough to enjoy stereo speakers in my helmet and hearing phone conversations....plus a mere 4hp sure aint worth losing a nice quiet legal bike that does not annoy residents in rural canyons or the wildlife there ....as for looks? seriously? lol WHO stares at their motorcycle exhaust....that has .001% to do with how I enjoy my bike....child stuff being all into bling parts Having said all that I DO wish you FIRST had flashed without the exhaust change so I can know if it is worth that part....I assume I can simply subtract 4hp from overall result? The other thing I cant understand is how this model is supposed to be 117hp stock...is that at the crank? If so what would the tuned version be measured the same way? 127ish?
Super fun video. Thinking about getting this but really didnt like the look of the exhaust. Love what you did. Who can do this for me in Vancouver Canada? BTW - does the code reader you speak about, work on other bikes like my motoguzzi. Have had this notation in my display that I cant get rid of. Thanks
this was educational, i was guessing/hoping between 115 - 120hp- i probably missed it but was there any aftermarket air filter installed too ? one small disappointment was the torque which i also hoped would gain a bit more..All and all tho if i take the better look and sound and higher hp into account its a win ! they should make a mt10 variant of the tracer imo, who knows maybe in the making already
If the Suzuki gsx gt sells well, I suspect Yamaha would consider a restyled and retuned R1 with luggage to compete with it and the ninja version. The Tracer is a sport tourer with emphasis on tourer. The ninja and gsx gt have emphasis on sport. The more bikes that are made, the more options there are, but they also share the market with each other. Time will tell.
They will not make a tracer with the 999 Crossplane engine with how that engine performs in it's current state that I am sure of. I owned the MT-10 and that engine is one of the thirstiest bikes ever to be in production. Even noticeable thirstier than the Aprilia Tuono V4. Yamaha has stated officially that they do not know why and what to do about it. Mine used about 1 litre gas per 10 KM so with the 17 litre tank it got I got about 170 KM per tank (about 105 miles) mixed riding. If I rode it hard even less and that was in the MT-10 stock form. That is horrible and friends bikes had similar range. So until Yamaha figures out how to solve things like that, that engine will never be used in a touring bike. It is a shame as the first generation MT-10 is actually a great bike for the money you can find them at used nowadays. I have heard that Yamaha made the new gen 2 engine a little bit less heavy on fuel but from what I have heard and seen it remains a problem. For a weekend ride with your buddies It is less of a noticeable problem but for touring which the tracer is for , no way.
hello Moore Mafia team, really like what you are doing, thanks a ton for sharing this info. Quick question about this exact bike and exhaust, I see it does not run terribly lean with no tune, would you say is is safe to ride it with this exact akra exhaust and no tune? I am in EU and here there is no place to make this tune. Thanks a lot!
I think I heard it pop a couple of times. Looks like you got it dialed as usual. I'm thinking about getting a 2024 tracer gt9 plus. I'm just wondering when you do the flash and exhaust, does the bike get better fuel mileage.
Come on now, go easy on Chris. I have a new gen mt09, fun for short jaunts/around town. Goes from 0-120 pretty fast but fades quickly after that.....compared to my buddies mt10 that's putting down 150 to the rear wheel.....lol.
The Tracer isn’t a new bike at all. It has been around in the states as an FJ09 since 2015. It was revised last year and Yamaha went with its name as it’s known in other parts of the world. Chris is tripping.
Haha correct. I had a '15 when they came out. Great bike with a terrific motor. Now it doesn't scream like a monster. But that's what I had my ZX10RR for. Thr FJ09 was my everyday ripper to work and back, etc. that could still put a smile on my face. Plus...they actually do sound great with a decent exhaust. I had an Akra on mine.
That fuel cut off explains why by bike almost doesn't need brakes to come to a stop. Its horrible. What exhaust do you recommend for the tracer 9 gt? I'm not an Akro fan, I want something a bit deeper.
Awesome vid, Chris. Any chance you could show the map for a Yamaha Bolt ? I'm sure there are lots of Metrics out there that would need your services..Thanks. (Bolt 59.3 ft;bs @ 3000 rpm... 5800rpms @ top end).
Normal looking exhaust: Hot 2 liter Coca Cola bottle sticking out the side, wrapped in carbon sticker. Sorry bro, I just really like the underbelly exhausts. Cool vid otherwise.
Hi. Chris, Thanks great video! A have tracer 9 GT, 2021 ,with ECU Part number BAP-8591A-31, on woolich site no such Bin file, can you tell me what was the ECU Part number of bike on a video, and what BIT bin file do you upload in it?
The 3 cylinder sounds ok but weak revving. I suppose that's how it's meant to be since it isn't a straight up killer. I bet it's fun to ride though. I've got my 14 ready to come down but it's too hot in the dyno room for me lol
Triples are the sweethearts of the engine world. Awesome power band. Good top end and good low end. Dont have to rev the piss out of to have a great time but if you do its still rewarding.
@@maxon18s...I've ridden only 1 . It was a triumph speed triple. It was fun but I wasn't overly impressed , of course I'm used to my zx14 so that's that
Same same!!! I can understand wanting the exhaust to sound better and look better, but for what a full Akrapovick exhaust system costs, I think money would be better spent on just an air filter and an ECU tune. It seems like by unlocking the ECU, the gains would be almost as close as doing it with a complete exhaust. I’m all about spending money on bling, but that’s just too much. Maybe a cheaper slip on and mid pipe for the looks and sound with the ECU tune would be the way to go.
@@ar2043 I prefer shorter aftermarket exhausts, the Akrapovic for the 21" + 09's only seem to be the longer type, so pipe up alongside the wheel which I don't like for cleaning. I am happy enough with my stock 09 SP exhaust but what I don't like is how it discolors so much.
When you consider that Yamaha has to meet emissions and noise standards I don’t understand how everybody thinks 4 horsepower makes the stock incredibly restrictive… that’s barely anything! For $1500 simple straight tubing, compared to the complexity engineered into the stock exhaust….this a bit of an exaggeration.
Gotta understand it's also tuned for that stock system but yeah stock systems are definitely well engineered and high quality for what they do. 4 hp on a bike is definitely noticeable though.
How is the tuning different between this Tracer GT and the MT-09? How is the ride different between the 2 if anyone has ridden both back to back. The SP version of the MT-09 is difficult to find!
Hi @Moore Mafia I have the same bike and ordered the same generation as the one in the video. I have a question for you, since I don't see you adding a sports filter I guess it hasn't been added. I'm being offered a DNA air filter as well, but I'm getting mixed reviews. Some people say not to put it because it lets more dust particles in, and others say the exact opposite. What do you think, will it improve the engine performance, sound and hold dust particles like the paper filter or will it let in more dust and cause it to damage the engine over time. Thanks in advance!!!
Hey curious if you have a link to the DNA air filter, but also did you get a chance to test ride it with the filter yet? Any improvements on performance and sound, etc?
@@i.beremliyski Ok thanks. I think I will order the filter and try it anyways. I found a MT09 video where he used DNA air filter plus air box mod and had no issues.
Chris, really you can't see the reason Yamaha did it that way! No silencer lightens the bike! And it was necessary to have that big a box under the engine for Euro-5 compliant. If it weren't for Euro-5 and EPA you'd be out of a job, at least reflashing ECU's. Thank the Lord that big ugly muffler is on their 'cuz that is what allows you to sell aftermarket pipe and tune! Rejoice Brother, Rejoice...lol.

Lmao hey now I'm a fat guy built like a parachute 😂😂😂😂
That thing sounds good
Come on now, go easy on Chris. I have a new gen mt09, fun for short jaunts/around town. Goes from 0-120 pretty fast but fades quickly after that.....compared to my buddies mt10 that's putting down 150 to the rear wheel.....lol.
Ain’t that essentially the R-1 in a bathing suit?
The Tracer isn’t a new bike at all. It has been around in the states as an FJ09 since 2015. It was revised last year and Yamaha went with its name as it’s known in other parts of the world. Chris is tripping.
Haha correct. I had a '15 when they came out. Great bike with a terrific motor. Now it doesn't scream like a monster. But that's what I had my ZX10RR for. Thr FJ09 was my everyday ripper to work and back, etc. that could still put a smile on my face. Plus...they actually do sound great with a decent exhaust. I had an Akra on mine.
CP3 with this exhaust sound nice 🙂👍
Looks like that exhaust would melt the factory side cases.
Maybe they are saving the high rev version for the R9, if it ever comes out.
That fuel cut off explains why by bike almost doesn't need brakes to come to a stop. Its horrible. What exhaust do you recommend for the tracer 9 gt? I'm not an Akro fan, I want something a bit deeper.
Nothing deeper than the Akra
Hey Chris, does your tune retain the different modes?
Hello, I'm thinking about one, any owners of this bike recommend it? I would definitely takr it to Chris to have it ECU flash, thanks
Looks and colors never ever dispute ! Its a matter of taste😅😅
Hi Chris,
Your TH-cam vids are mint, is there any chance You could do a remap/flash on an Aprilia RS660 please?
Do the ecu flashes work on the 2022 xsr900? It's the same engine should be the same ecu but I can't say.
My tuner said that there is no block off plates or marble mod for this model of tracer. Is that right?
Stock power was pretty good for something so nice and quiet. Not enough gain to justify the noise imo.
The noise is half of why I want the tune.
Agree fully, what is the purpose of this bike. Its nice to do a little flash tune, but would keep the stock exhaust. Great video great stuff.
I almost bought this bike but got the Pan America instead. Very cool bike though.
Hi. Chris, Thanks great video!
A have tracer 9 GT, 2021 ,with ECU Part number BAP-8591A-31, on woolich site no such Bin file, can you tell me what was the ECU Part number of bike on a video, and what BIT bin file do you upload in it?
Which windshield is on the bike? Looking for similar one, with a little curve on the top, what can direct the wind above the helmet.
@mooremafia you should make a video for the MT-07
What was the top speed end up being after everything
My dream bike ❤
I am so here for this one. Me likes!👍🏾
If you don’t have the ais blocked how do you tune the AF ???
One thing I'm gutted is I've not seen any gen 1 S1000R or many RR.
Not a patch on the speed triple sound
It sounds very nice after the improvement. Very impressive improve.
Before it sound like my honda 35cc weed cutter.
Please do a ecu flash 1290 super Duke GT..2021 model
The 3 cylinder sounds ok but weak revving. I suppose that's how it's meant to be since it isn't a straight up killer. I bet it's fun to ride though. I've got my 14 ready to come down but it's too hot in the dyno room for me lol
Triples are the sweethearts of the engine world. Awesome power band. Good top end and good low end. Dont have to rev the piss out of to have a great time but if you do its still rewarding.
@@maxon18s...I've ridden only 1 . It was a triumph speed triple. It was fun but I wasn't overly impressed , of course I'm used to my zx14 so that's that
I like the way it looks & sounds now, but given the expense for just a few HP I'm not going that route.
How can we avail the ecu reflash? Where can I buy the check light reseter
Quick question.. what do the numbers look like in the power usage column after the tune? Do you get full power through the gears now?
FULL BLAST!!!
Q: Do the side cases still fit on with the Akropovic exhaust?
Yes they do.
Will they melt with new exhaust ?
Could you please send me the link for that exhaust?
Thanks
Should have done a tune with stock exhaust
When you consider that Yamaha has to meet emissions and noise standards I don’t understand how everybody thinks 4 horsepower makes the stock incredibly restrictive… that’s barely anything! For $1500 simple straight tubing, compared to the complexity engineered into the stock exhaust….this a bit of an exaggeration.
Gotta understand it's also tuned for that stock system but yeah stock systems are definitely well engineered and high quality for what they do. 4 hp on a bike is definitely noticeable though.
@@rafaelfavela77 duh
i was expecting more then 4 from the exhuast alone my bike went up 8hp with the exhuast and air filter dont think the filter helps with half the gains
Different bike exhaust have different limitations. Some wont pick up any from an exhaust.
Wow!!! It might be like a magic carpet to ride …
What are the ETV numbers post flash?
Built like a parachute lmaaaao
can u flash the ecu without the bike ?
Sounds nice to be fair.
Sounds different but good
How is the tuning different between this Tracer GT and the MT-09? How is the ride different between the 2 if anyone has ridden both back to back. The SP version of the MT-09 is difficult to find!
My buddy is selling his in ca.. 2022 sp
I want one as a second bike
Is this detuned from the MT-09 version? Premium gas required?
Same engine as mt09, requires premium. You could always run 87 in it, I wouldn't though.
@@dg8062 You can...it'll just pull timing as it picks up a few degrees of knock.
Hi! How about tuning mt 07 tracer year 2017? Do you recommend it? Im from EU, so do you also do only ECU tuning?
Chris, can you say "theoretical" for us again 😁😁😅??
I was thinking 5
and 9 after you unrestrict it
That is a cool looking bike. I really like the front of u
It.
Good gains. Keep doing your thing!!!!
You didn’t let us hear the exhaust 😪
@@r0bv123 no, I didn't use it yet
@@i.beremliyski Ok thanks. I think I will order the filter and try it anyways. I found a MT09 video where he used DNA air filter plus air box mod and had no issues.
3 is good
Love it
Chris, really you can't see the reason Yamaha did it that way!
