WPL 1/16 upgrade 2 Speed gearbox vs 370 single full metal aluminum transmission review.

  • Speed shoot out between the 2 upgrade WPL transmission. This just a straight up speed test and won't give actual climbing power or stall torque. But hey at least we know the speed difference now.

    The 2 speed trans does have bushing that can have bearings installed. Just finding the right size might be hard. But looks as though the bearings in the wpl metal upgrades kit may fit.

      @everydayrc1783  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure which 2 speed you have. There are 2 with slightly different design. Mine doesn't have bushings. The plastic case flares up and holds the steel gear shaft in place. The plastic flare is about 2mm thick around the steel shaft.

      It's the same as the one you show in the video with spring return. 2 versions one with spring return and one without. In your video I see the bushings. They are flush with the case and same color as the case and I didn't know either until I took the whole gearbox apart and one of the bushings came out with the shaft.

    • @everydayrc1783
      @everydayrc1783  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just checked again. 2 Of the shafts have bushings. The other 2 are just into the plastic case. It does look like they are the same size as the axle bearings. I still prefer the single speed over the 2 speed trans.

      Nice. I have the metal gearbox on the way but I'm going to take off the reduction box and direct mount a brushless for my prerunner build. Not trying to win speed runs just want a faster one in 2wd to changed it up! These things are addicting!

    I got the rtr but have been upgrading it slowly. I was wondering what controller and esc and steering servo I should get to be able to run a lipo. Also I just ordered a single speed 370 w aluminium gearbox.

      No problem. I may slap together a B36 and install the stock trans until the 370 aluminum gets here I ordered for it. I'll run the test again with the B16 2spd vs the B36 stock trans.

    I was wondering what performance increase would be given on the single speed gearbox using a 2S Lipoly instead of the supplied 6V Nicad. With the 6V Nicad the C24 covered the length of my entrance hall in 19 seconds, with the 2S Lipoly 15 seconds. So it's about 25%. I have not checked if the motor would heat up too much with 2S.

    In the metal single speed is the reduction box also metal geared?

    • @everydayrc1783
      @everydayrc1783  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure. Next time I have it out I'll have to see if I can pull it apart.

    • @everydayrc1783
      @everydayrc1783  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok I had the gearbox out while doing the upgrade links. I pulled apart the reduction box. They're metal gears but not sure what metal the are. There's no bearings and only one gear shaft is supported by a brass bushings. The other shafts are mounted into the aluminum case. There was plenty of grease in there to. If anyone takes it apart be prepared for the little gears to fall out. It took me a couple tries to get them back in proper order. Also the output shaft of the reduction box is 5mm using a 46 pitch 5mm pinion, the other 2 pinions that make up the gear box are regular 3.17mm 46 pitch. I forgot to count the tooth count on them....

    Do you need to get a better esc and battery before you upgrade the trans? I found a 2 spd trans with a metal drive shaft, 370 motor and a servo and I want to put it in a completely stock c24 rtr. Would that work?

    • @ambero25

      U need to change esc at least , 10A the red esc in a transparet folia for example will fit perfect , i am not sure about battery but u can buy a set with a charger just a little bigger one oryginal wpl (blue colour) and for two speed gearbox u need to have 3channel transmitter with remote control.

    Great informative video.
    Do you have any idea what speed the gearmotor in the aluminium transmission runs at, the outgoing shaft of the first gearbox if you know what I mean. Because there are many speeds of this gearmotor, so you could change the motor to get more or less speed.
    Also, what is that blue/grey/yellow transmitter you flashed by?😁
    Thanx again for this video.😀👍

    • @everydayrc1783
      @everydayrc1783  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think your asking for rpm's or turn count of the the motor and the geared portion output ratio. There's no markings on the motor or the gear reduction so no idea, sorry. The transmitter is an 3 channel Arrma ATX-300 I picked up cheap for use with the 2 spd. gearbox.

    • @ernsteliden6719
      @ernsteliden6719 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@everydayrc1783
      That is exactly what I'm asking 👍
      Since that is a standard 25mm gearmotor is it not?
      There are quite a few different ratios to choose among. And from what I've seen the aluminium gearbox itself contains 3 identical gears, that of course means that it's actually just a transfer case.. The real gearing is done by the 25mm gearmotor.
      Thanks for your answer.👍👍

    • @everydayrc1783
      @everydayrc1783  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ernsteliden6719 Yes its a 25mm geared motor but has no ratio marked on it. The gearbox is like you said 3 identical sized gears so 1:1 input/output with all reduction done by the geared motor.

    I added a single speed gearbox with the metal drive shafts and metal axles my rear keeps hopping up and down can you tell me what might be going on

    • @everydayrc1783
      @everydayrc1783  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your rear driveshaft is most likely not lined up properly. If they are slip shafts and once out of the truck they come apart by sliding them. Make sure the eyelets on the two pieces of shaft line up the same and one isn't turned 90 degrees when slipping them together. Looking down at the shaft on the work bench you should see both eyelets on the shafts facing up.

      Not sure what you mean to stay. But I think your asking about the radio gear. Both trucks were kit version. One is using a Tactic radio and the other is using an Arrma radio.

    • @RunThatRC
      @RunThatRC 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes when u have the 2 speed you need a 3 channel transmitter so you can change gears from radio. But you can still install and just shift gear manually with stock radio gear. Hope that helps 😊

    Which one crawls the slowest

    • @everydayrc1783
      @everydayrc1783  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To answer your question and then some. Crawling you'd be using low gear in the 2 spd. so crawling speed would be about the same with the single speed having a little more power due to its better motor. The 2 spd does mount just a tad lower so could get hung up a little easier. Now between the 2 trucks I'd take the C24/C14 over the B16 every-time. The B-16 turns about the same as the Titanic, the extra axle is just one more thing to get hung up on and it doesn't have much suspension articulation. It does bridge gaps better and can climb a steeper loose grade. Anyway I prefer the C14 for crawling and its cheaper to upgrade. I just did another C14 crawling video th-cam.com/video/MaRe9qlUbSE/w-d-xo.html it just snowed so once it melts I'll do another similar with the B16.
