Thank you, sir. What are you driving on a regular basis these days? Are you excited about the upcoming turbos? I'm not terribly excited about 4 cylinders, but I trust Porsche engineers.
The 2014 Boxster S is the best Porsche I have owned. After having a Porsche 1972 911 and a 1991 911 Careers 2, I did not think I would own anything better until the 2014 PDK Porsche Boxster S appeared which in my opinion the best sports car in the world..
This review is a cut above others because it's more "real world". I particularly like how you've shown the PDK going up and down through the gears. I had previously thought manual was the only way to go with a Boxster but now I'm keeping a more open mind about the PDK. It actually looks like fun and is certainly more involving than a slush box automatic.
Thank you, Jeff ! I'm so happy when people tell me that they enjoy my videos, I really appreciate it. Right now I'm testing the new Cayman S and I picked a manual one, because I already had the PDK in the Boxster here. I love it. Will be a few more days until I have filmed and edited the review, but I hope you get to check it out. Greetings from germany, Guido
Thanks Eric ! To answer your question: There is of course a difference between Sport Plus and Sport mode: Mainly the car get's even sharper using Sport Plus. I was really surprised how planted and stable it felt at speeds over 250 kph. I don't think that there is any problem driving top speed in this car on a flat and well build autobahn
You're welcome ! I had a few great comments on this video, but yours is one of the greastest. Thank you very much for your feedback. All the best for getting your own Porsche. No matter which one you'll get, I'm sure you will love it just as much as I loved testing the 981. Greetings from germany, Guido aka Thegetawayer
Thanks, Marty ! I'm glad you like my review. A red 981 with beige interior must look awesome, saw this combination on a 991 C4S a few mounths ago and I absolutly loved it. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks for the comment, Gary ! I'm glad you enjoyed the Boxster. Did you end up buying one ? I'm not yet sure on the 3.4 liter base Carrera. I drove the C4 Cab Manual which is the heaviest and slowest variant of the 991 range and it was lacking abit of torque at low rpms compared to the previous 3.6 in the 997. Might have to try another one to see how it compares to the Cayman S I drove in July. Greetings, Guido
Thank you very much ! I'm not a pro-tester and my equipment still isn't the best, but I'm glad so many people like what I do and appreciate it. Greetings from germany
I just ordered my new Boxster, so I'm happy to find any info on the Boxster or Cayman. I've enjoyed these reviews on both. Fortunately I also noticed the advantages of the Sports Steering wheel and included it in my build. It will be a long winter awaiting arrival.
Thanks for watching my videos ! I'm glad to hear they helped you. Send me a picture of your car to my facebook-page if you like :) Greetings, TheGetawayer
Thanks for the nice comment ! I haven't driven the base Boxster and haven't even seen one in person yet..I got this car from Porsche Germany to test it and couldn't choose which model to get...I think the base Boxster won't sound as vocal as this S, but certainly not bad either. The last 987 sounded pretty good to me so I have high hopes for base 981. Greetings from germany

Thanks for sharing your opinion with me, It's always great to get comments from Porsche owners ! Greetings from germany
Thank you Grayson ! Glad you enjoyed my review. There are more to come including the new Cayman S, so I hope you stay tuned. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks for liking the review, buddy ! Yes, the car starts to move like any BMW, Audi or Mercedes. But it also has a Start-Stop-System so first the engine has to start. But you can switch it off and it's not active in the Sport modes, just like the sailing function of the PDK
Thanks Tiny ! It's great to hear that from somebody that follows my videos since the beginning...I really appreciate the fact that you still enjoy watching them. I will do my best to keep the videos coming as often as I can...Take care, my friend ! Greetings from germany
I couldn't find a traditional hard-top option for the 981, but normally you can install these with the help of a second person and the soft top down. Porsche tests the cars with the soft-top on the artic circle. It has a very strong structure and also a heated rear glas-window. I wouldn't worry about an optional hard-top. Many people here in germany drive their Boxster all season without hard-tops. Just don't drive it through a car-wash, because that ruins the fabric in the long term
Great comment! Yes, that's my point, but there are cars like the GT3 or the 997 Turbo, where even Clarkson had to admit that they are superb :) I think what makes the Boxster so special, is that it really combines 3 cars: A sportscar, a pure roadster and a good daily driver with a relativly low fuel consumption for a 300+ bhp car. The latest BMW Z4, Audi TT or Benz SLK are great cars ( I have driven all of them ), but none can keep up with the new Boxster ( for me not even with the old 987 ).
Thank you very much ! This was actually my very first review where I got a press-car from Porsche for filming. My very first press-car ever. It's pretty cool that people enjoy what I do and I know for a fact that I wouldn't be able to do it without getting such postive feedback. I really appreciate it ! Greetings from germany, TheGetawayer
Thank you Hassan ! I'd say PDK, PTV and PASM are great options and well worth the money if you can afford them, especially if you want to do trackdays. The sportsexhaust is a must for me ! I love that sounds. Regarding the launch controll time, II think on the right piece of road a Boxster S could really achieve 4,5 seconds. I have a short clip using this feature here on my channel and it works amazing. I don't know of any changes for 2014. Greetings from germany, Guido
Thank you very much, Aditya ! I'm happy that my review helped you and that you are enjoying your new car. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thank you for your excellent review! It is unquestionably the best I have seen. I have a 2013 Boxster S in red with the beige interior and like you I have noticed some reflective glare on the windshield, but frankly, that is the only negative comment I could make about this beautifully designed sports car.
Thanks DJ ! It's a big compliment for me when people watch my videos more than once and even ask me for advice...Now, the problem here for me is that Porsche didn't give me an options list, so I don't know what options my press-car had. But I think you can leave out the ptv unless you want to do alot of track days. If you go for the PDK get the Sport Design steeringwheel. That's a must for me. And think about the 20 inch wheels as they add better looks and don't ruin the comfort. Greets, Guido
Thank you very much ! I'm happy when my reviews are helpful and I hope there will be more Porsche reviews coming in the future. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Amazingly it was the standard exhaust ! The sport exhaust sounds even better and comes with a special button next to the gear stick to activate it. Thanks for the compliment !
I agree with you and I am a manual lover myself. But I have to say that this new PDK generation really works very well and most driver will be able to handle the Boxster better with this automatic transmission. It's very quick and it blips the throttle on the downshifts. I am pretty good at heel and toe, but I doubt you can be faster than the PDK :)
You mean something like a hardtop you can use in the winter ? The Boxster may have a soft top, but hidden under it is a very strong structure of metal plates that reduce vibrations, give it strange and cause less windnoise. Or do you mean the Cayman as a full coupe version of the Boxster ? That car will hit the market next year in march 2013
Thank you very much for the feedback and for sharing your personal Boxster story with me. When I drove the Boxster for the first time ( it was the 987 I reviewed last summer ), it was nothing like I expected it to feel like compared to other german roadsters like the SLK, Z4 or TT. Since that I too think that only people who haven't driven a Boxster yet, would call it a girlie car...Guilty myself doing so before, but that will never happen again.. Hope you can check out the 981 too. Greets!
Yes, I had people from norway and denmark telling me this. The Boxster S starts at 59120 € in germany. The car I drove is over 80.000€ because of all the extras it had. Still compared to a 911 convertible it is a bargain ! Maybe importing one from germany comes cheaper ? You could pick it up at the factory, which is really a lovely experience and drive it home to Norway. Thanks for the kind words and the infos ! Greetings from germany
Once again brilliant! 13 minutes and not even for a second i got borred. Such a great review. Such car passion you have. A work that makes envy to many professional journalists. Continue this amazing work. Good luck, best regards mate.
A very nice review from someone who is clearly passionate about cars. I like the fact that you pay attention to ergonomics and build quality, something that in my opinion german car brands have always been ahead in. You represent the 'normal guy' pretty well, which I really like more than professional car shows where the presentors make so much money that they get removed from reality a little. Keep it up!
Amazing review Guido! Really enjoyed it, you did a fantastic job! I love the new Boxster, the styling and sound are both very nice, and it is a great value for your money. There is definitely passion built into all these cars but I do feel that they lack a bit of character. As the Top Gear guys have explained before, cars like this that are "perfect" lack character because they are so good. The GT-R is the same. Cars that are imperfect and have obvious flaws are the ones with the most character.
Thanks for your comments, Richie ! I think the best tip I can give you is to test drive both of them...Sure the Boxster is a proper Porsche while the SLK 55 is still very similiar looking to a standard SLK 200...But its V8 is such a joy. It might change your thoughts about the SLK in general. I was just as impressed by it, as by the new Boxster...Only for different reasons. Test drive them. And go from there. Greetings from germany, Guido aka Thegetawayer
Thank you very much for your detailed feedback ! As a 911-fan I had mixed feelings about the Boxster myself, but since I drove the 987 S last year...Wow..It really changed my mind. And the new 981 is on another level really...I really can't fault it. Thanks for subscribing ! I really appreciate it. Greetings from germany
Thank you ! It means so much to me when actual Porsche owners share their opinion with me ! I'm personally a huge fan of the 997. I tested three different ones for my channel and the one I loved the most was the Carrera 4 Cabriolet with 6 speed manual...I also reviewed the 987 S last year and felt that it can keep up with the 997...The image never bothered me. It's a brilliant car. And so is the 981. Mind-blowing car. I'm still waiting for Porsche to give me a 991 for testing. Wish me luck :)
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed my review ! I will try to make a review of the GT86 as soon as I can get one from Toyota. That may take some time because there is such a hype about this car and every journalist wants to test it. From what I know so far it must be a very good car and could be very appealing to me. But I really want to get behind the wheel myself. Greetings from germany, TheGetawayer
Thank you very much Tim ! That sounds like an amazing trip, wow...My testcar had a normal exhaust, so not the PSE option. I had it one my last testcar a 991 Carrera 4 and I think it makes a huge difference. I would recommend it, eventhough the standard car already sounds great.. Thank you for your feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed my video. Greetings from southwestern germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Wow, congratulations ! I hope you will have a great ownership and many many nice drives with the Boxster. It really is a lovely car. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it ! Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thank you very much for the feedback ! I do love the Boxster S 987 too. Reviewed one with the 6 speed manual in 2011 here for my channel, absolutly great car like all Porsches. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thank you very much ! Such feedback means alot to me and I will try my best to make more interesting car reviews for you to enjoy. Greetings from germany, Guido aka Thegetawayer
Yes, at least that's my personal opinion having washed many many cars in car-washes when I worked for a rental car company. I think the extra money for the Boxster S is a very good investment, though I have never driven a standard Boxster. I think the chassis handles the 315 bhp so well that it could even take more than that...Are you planning to buy one ?
Greetings from England, Guido! I'm so glad i discovered -and subscribed to- your channel! Thanks and keep the excellent work, Irfan from Blackburn, Lancashire.
Yes, I think you would. There is plenty of legroom in the new Boxster and if you put the seat in the lowest position, like I always do, you should fit
Thanks ! The Cayman hits the german market in april and hopefully until summer all the big magazines will have driven it, so that I can have a go. I have to see it in person, but from pictures only I don't like it as much as the Boxster and the old Cayman. This review has more views than most reviews from the states and the uk, so you can be sure that I will do my best to film more Porsche content as soon as possible ;) Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Was soll man noch sagen, einfach endgeiles Video :-) Die ganzen verschiedenen Ansichten, die downshifts, einfach alles. Haste echt richtig gut gemacht ! Was du im letzten Abschnitt erzählst, is eben echt krass, wie sehr man so Autos testet ... gerade deswegen, würde ich mir da nie einen negativen Eindruck erlauben ! Wie gesagt, richtig gutes Video - mach weiter so Guido ! +1 & fave :-)
Thank you very much for your feedback ! I really do have a crazy passion for cars and filming and try to do the best that I can with my equipment and the cars I can get. I feel very blessed when people appreciate what I do and can take something from watching my reviews. Greetings from germany !
Thanks for the feedback, my friend ! The roads are just 20 kilometers away from my hometown. The area is called Odenwald. If you visit germany next time, come here ! It's just 50 kilometers from Frankfurt :)
Guido, the German way of persistent pursuit of perfection is responsible for astonishing achievements in science and engineering. I have the utmost respect for the Germans passion and commitment to scientific achievement. This dedication is reflected in the engineering quality of their vehicles, including this beautiful new Boxster. Anyone who says Porsches lack "personality" have probably never driven one. Cheers from CA
The standard sport seats are absolutly fine in my opinion...The sport plus seats just have more power-adjustments and offer a bit more support...Test them at the dealership if you're not sure. Seats are a very indivual thing for each driver, but from my experience in general: all Porsche seats are great, supportive and comfortable on long trips
Excellent review man! You're doing stuff that I've been working on - adding life to videos by hosting them. You have the personality and showmanship! - DT
Bought base model a month ago and I am totally enjoying my first car :) Love your videos....it really helped me in deciding whether I should by a Boxster or not. Never loved Boxster but man I was wrong.... Thanks!!!!
Absolutly Nick ! The best car I have driven this year, no doubt...The new SLK 55 I tested beats it sound for me, but over all the Boxster is the best roadster on the market today and I was very happy to get one from Porsche to do one of the first reviews with it...
Thanks a lot ! I'm glad you enjoyed my review. This car was not equiped with the PSE, just a standard exhaust, which is pretty amazing. But the PSE sounds even better. I just reviewed the SLK 55 AMG. Hope you checked out this video as well, because if you want sound, this car is astonishing :) The new Boxster is the best car in its class, so don't worry: Either way your going to have a lot of fun behind the wheel. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thank you very much for your feedback, Edward ! The reason why I reviewed so many german cars so far, is that I had to rent them. And german rental car companies just have many german cars from Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Opel and VW. I tried to pick the most exciting ones. A Golf GTD is very very rare to find as a rental. Now, this review here was my first one with a press vehicle from Porsche. I will reach out to other car-makers and ask them for cars too. Anything specific you would like to see ?
Thanks, I'm happy you enjoyed the video. I would like to try a standard Boxster, but I guess I won't be able to get one. Honestly, if Porsche let's me test another car this year, I hope it's going to be the new Cayman. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Love your wonderful review, Guido! Thanks for your exciting and informative videos. I hear a lot of gurgling, crackling, and popping during the downshifts and lower RPMs... does this mean that the car you tested was equipped with PSE? Look forward to financing a 981 S this coming winter. I was making the decision between this and the SLK 55 AMG and chose the Porsche with a lot of research and consistent observation of both... especially in overall terms. Greetings from California!
As I say I am amazed how much better it feels and how much fun it is to drive now. I do like manuals but to fight traffic and to take full advantage of the start-stop-automatic the PDK is the better choice. Plus the new sailing-function really works well... I would still go for the manual just because I love rev-matching myself and heel & toe, but if anybody chooses this PDK, I completly understand why now
Thank you very much ! I'm happy when people can take away something from my reviews and according to the comments so far there have been a few people that are aiming to testdrive and even buying this car after watching my review.. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Great review Guido. I saw the 981 at the Goodwood moving motorshow here in England last month. In my opinion it looks fantastic. Keep the excellent reviews coming.
Well done Guido! And what a gesture from Porsche to lend you this brand new car for a review! Seems like your found some great driving roads as well to test it ;)!
Very good Guido! I like your new camera. It is funny that the two Porsches that are criticised the most, the 924 and the Boxster, have both saved the company from liquidation!! Both are the cars in my race championship and handle superbly largely due to weight balance (and my preferred rear wheel drive but of course most Porsches are when they are not 4 wheel drive). Well done on your reviews I like the technical stuff you include.
Thanks for the great comment ! I haven't had the chance to get a 991 press-car so far, but I hope they will give me the chance to review more cars next year. I love Porsches more than any other cars and the 997 GT3 RS is my personal favourite. My only fear for the 991 GT3 is that they will completly dismiss the manual option over the PDK. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks, buddy ! I started with renting Porsches two years ago and filmed my first english review to see where it could take me...The german feedback on my enlish videos is always pretty bad, but that's nothing compared to the international feedback and friendship I got eversince I started :) Greetings from germany, Guido
Thanks for the feedback ! I make the mistake to watch the display of the screen. I need to avoid that and fold the screen in. Glad you liked the review. Greetings from germany
Thank you very much for the kind feedback ! I'm a big fan of Chris Harris myself eventhough I don't always agree with him. Apart from the language, he's of course a professional with years and years of experience, while I'm doing this still as a hobby. Trust me: I'm very happy to see that this video is the 2nd most watched TH-cam-review after Chris' Boxster review. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
I personally prefer manuals, but as I say in the video : The new PDK generation feels much better than it did before. It's much more instant, feels responsive and it is very easy to save fuel with it by using the sailing-function. I would suggest you to try both by getting a testdrive at the dealership
Hi - am shortly to be placing an order for a new Boxster and have found your videos to be extremely useful and informative. They have been particularly useful in helping me decide how to spec my car. Thanks for your assistance.
Well I went and bought one , with less then 3k miles.the S in Red with black interior, PDK, sport design wheel , came with vectoring as well. Looking forward to it . Comes this week. Thanks for the encouragement. dj
Having a convertible is always fun, so I think buying a Boxster S instead of waiting for the new Cayman just depends on whether you like to have a roadster or a full-on hardtop. The performance will be very similiar, I guess... I'm glad you enjoyed my video ! Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Awesome, so glad you still like this video ! No, I'm still waiting for Porsche to give me one for a test and it can take serveral mounths until they agree to do so, eventhough this is the 2nd most popular video about the new Boxster on TH-cam worldwide. I'll keep you updated, but I can't promise anything sadly. Greetings, Guido
I have videos of a white and a black one, red and yellow look good too...There's almost too much choice, but I would go for something brighter to highlight be beautiful design of the 981 Boxster
You're welcome ! If you drive an Elise, I would guess you picked a manual Boxster S too, correct ? If you did, the rev-matching feature is an interesting part of the Sport Chrono Package aswell, that I really enjoyed, eventhough doing heel and toe myself is still more fun. All the best for your ownership, Eric ! Greetings, Guido
I would say that the 981 is a bit more comfortable than the old 987, just because of the longer wheelbase and mainly at high speeds...But you don't lose the sportiness at the same time. It's not a soft set-up, but one I could easily live with every day
Thanks for the tip ! I have one of those lenses and others, but at the end of the day my Sony cam isn't the best for filming driving footage, so I'm thinking about upgrading to a DSLR one day
I've been following your videos for quite a while, and I've always liked them! I watch a lot of car videos online, and am subscribed to quite a few reviewers, and yours did catch my attention particularly. The only cons I have is that I noticed you have more videos of German cars than anything else, granted they are among the best, but I wish I could hear your opinion on other brands. Your videos keep getting better and better btw!
Happy to report that I now own a 981 base Boxster as my daily driver. I can't describe how fantastic this car is to live with!
+Michael Esarey Congrats ! :D
Thank you, sir. What are you driving on a regular basis these days? Are you excited about the upcoming turbos? I'm not terribly excited about 4 cylinders, but I trust Porsche engineers.
+Michael Esarey I had one too but it crashed
@@Kylo_Ren_2033’It crashed’ do you mean ‘I crashed it’?😂😢
@@clu4u I was going slow in stop & go traffic and the pick up behind rear ended me.
The 2014 Boxster S is the best Porsche I have owned. After having a Porsche 1972 911 and a 1991 911 Careers 2, I did not think I would own anything better until the 2014 PDK Porsche Boxster S appeared which in my opinion the best sports car in the world..

Been looking at reviews for months....this one many times. Took the plunge yesterday, and bought my Boxster S. Arrives 2015. Cannot wait!!
2312slowhand Awesome ! Send me a picture to my facebook when it arrives !
TheGetawayer Sure will.
Thank you very much ! It's always great to meet fellow Porsche fans through my reviews.
Glad you enjoyed them ! Greetings from germany

Well done, as always. The new Boxster S is badass (loved the countryside views, too)

Yes, that's my point, but there are cars like the GT3 or the 997 Turbo, where even Clarkson had to admit that they are superb :)
I think what makes the Boxster so special, is that it really combines 3 cars: A sportscar, a pure roadster and a good daily driver with a relativly low fuel consumption for a 300+ bhp car.
Thank you so much for your feedback ! I wish you all the best and many great roads to drive your new Boxster. Greetings from germany
Thank you very much ! It's so great to read that there are many Porsche owners who like this review. Greetings from germany, Guido aka Thegetawayer
I've watched over 100 Boxster reviews on YT and this is the best one by far. Congrats!
Thank you very much for the kind words and your feedback ! I really appreciate it ! Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Greets!
Yes, they upgraded from 18 to 19 for the Boxster S and 20s are available for the first time
Yes, I had people from norway and denmark telling me this.
Until you drive a perfect 981 Spyder…
Great review. Loved the beauty shots at the very end. I think you should put more of those shots within the review. Very informative too. I want one!
Yes, this car had optional 20 inch Porsche Carrera S wheels ( front 8Jx20ET / rear 9,5Jx20ET45 ) with 235/35 ZR20 and 265/35 ZR20 tires
Thanks Irfan ! Really glad to hear you enjoy my videos. Greetings from germany, Guido
Yes, I think you would. There is plenty of legroom in the new Boxster and if you put the seat in the lowest position, like I always do, you should fit
I have a 981S pdk boxster and every day I drive it, I get a smile. It is a spectacular car and very fun to drive.
Thanks ! The Cayman hits the german market in april and hopefully until summer all the big magazines will have driven it, so that I can have a go.
I have to see it in person, but from pictures only I don't like it as much as the Boxster and the old Cayman.
This review has more views than most reviews from the states and the uk, so you can be sure that I will do my best to film more Porsche content as soon as possible ;)
Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
- DT
Bought base model a month ago and I am totally enjoying my first car :)
Love your videos....it really helped me in deciding whether I should by a Boxster or not. Never loved Boxster but man I was wrong....
Thanks!!!!
Thanks for the compliment, Geo ! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Hope you checked out this video as well, because if you want sound, this car is astonishing :)
The new Boxster is the best car in its class, so don't worry: Either way your going to have a lot of fun behind the wheel.
Thank you very much for your feedback ! I tried my best to make it as informative and interesting to watch as possible. Greetings from germany
My pleasure Guido! Keep them coming. Best wishes from Romania, Alex.
I would still go for the manual just because I love rev-matching myself and heel & toe, but if anybody chooses this PDK, I completly understand why now
Thank you very much for watching and leaving me your feedback ! Greetings from germany
Thanks a bunch for your awesome comment, buddy ! Really cheered me up. Greetings from germany
Thank you very much !
3:10 the laugh says it all, the joy it brings is something we all can appreciate
I started with renting Porsches two years ago and filmed my first english review to see where it could take me...The german feedback on my enlish videos is always pretty bad, but that's nothing compared to the international feedback and friendship I got eversince I started :)
Greetings from germany, Guido
It's Porsche...... Best is a usual word for them...... They r so usable and yet they last the test of tym......such beautiful cars they make.......
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video ! Greetings from germany, TheGetawayer
Well I went and bought one , with less then 3k miles.the S in Red with black interior, PDK, sport design wheel , came with vectoring as well. Looking forward to it . Comes this week.
Thanks for the encouragement.
dj
You're welcome ! Glad you enjoyed watching it. Cheers !
Thank you very much for the kind words ! I really appreciate it ! Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thank you very much for the kind words ! Greetings from germany !
