Designing Porsche's third generation '981' series Boxster can't have been easy. It needed to be better to drive than any of its key rivals, yet also affordable enough to slot comfortably below the Stuttgart brand's seventh generation 911 model. It would need to appeal to the German intent on thrashing it around the N??rburgring, the Floridian retiree with a golf bag in the boot and those inching through the Beijing rush hour. And, as with any new generation model, it would need to pull off the trick of being better built but lighter, quicker yet more economical and offering more equipment while issuing fewer tailpipe emissions.
That's one heck of a balancing trick. Thing is, Porsche pulled it off. So does this car also make sense s a used buy? Let's find out.

Hard to believe this car is over 10 years old and still looks so good.

This is the best 981 review on youtube in my opinion. Very nicely done.

Great looking car. I can't believe that Porsche cut the 6 cylinder engine, then brought it back at as enormous cost option. That was some very creative marketing!

Outstanding review. I purchased a new 2.7 Cayman, 275 hp, PDK, 19 inch wheels, dual exhaust, upgraded stero and leather, and a few other upgrades. I've had it 8 years and won't part with it. It is too much fun cruising and it loves those curvy back roads.

I have had 3 Boxsters two 986S manual and one 987PDK. For everyday use the PDK is fabulous. I now drive a standard Audi TT roadster which is cheaper to run but the handling is awful. I am now on the lookout for another Boxster

      LoL... Tragic, your plight.
I went from an '01 Audi TT to an '01 Boxster S ---not even close.
The TT (AND ALL Audis) can't run with Porsche, so Good on You, looking for another Boxster... Get the S or GTS.

Oh no…I’m back on the fence. I’m a happy long time owner of a 944s2 Cabriolet…that I bought the year I turned 50 which coincided with the same year I was promoted to US Navy Captain. They often say that the Boxster saved Porsche from financial demise….the same thing was said of the 924/944/968. I always counter the first by saying there’d be no Boxster if not for the success of the 944. Anyway, as happy as I am with my pristine 944,;the looks and comments it gets, I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to wanting a 911. I’m not getting younger….but I do have to admit that the argument for a properly equipped Boxster over a base 911…..is sure starting to make some sense. Bravo-Zulu on providing this outstanding bale-added video….with equally outstanding comments by Boxster owners! Damn this fence I’m straddling: Boxster…911. 911…Boxster. Two great choices….what am I to do?

I have the less sexy 2011 PDK S from new, with 25,000 miles on it. When the 718 came out I went to a Porsche track day and drove a 911S, 911T and Cayman GTS. I drove home in my Boxster and didn’t see any reason to buy any of them.

Is it normal in the U.K. that the front license plate is a different color than the rear?

the high water mark of the Boxster! the 718 doesn't look as good and doesn't sound good either. rare that the update is worse than the original.

Ev's I believe are a fad. At most there will be a range of fuels available for decades

Gas isnt going anywhere..taxation is coming for EVs as well as congestion charging. Anyone with a brain would seek out alternative fuels like Ethanol, LPG and Hydrogen as the future. Not solely electric. Porsche seem to be the only ones interested in alternative fuels to keep ICE going
