War of the Roses Battle Report (Hail Caesar) - 04 (The Great Neville Procrastination)

- Welcome to the next game set during the Wars of the Roses. This time my opponent is Robin, and we are playing a fictious scenario representing a land dispute between The Duke of Suffolk and The Earl of Northumberland (Lord Montagu). Tensions have boiled over and only swords will settle the matter.
There is a miatake with the Neville dice, i just assumed the Rose symbol was on the 6 side and didn't clock that it wasn't until about halfway through, we don't think it made a huge difference but instead of stalling the game we carried on but remembering to count the symbols as 1's.

A War of the Roses video! Always happy to see one of these as I believe they're your best content on the channel personally. While I collect ECW and NZW historicals personally, these tempt me every single day for some late Medieval house and family disputes and conflicts!

This game held my interest throughout, even with all the failed orders you suffered in the first few turns. I was impressed by all the maneuver that was going on despite the failed orders. You certainly handled those poor dice roles with greater patience and aplomb than I could've mustered. I still think you might ought to take a hammer to them. Regards your hatred of painting horses; paint them first, they have so much variety you can really hone your creativity on them. When they're finished the riders are all downhill and a real joy.

(Must admit that without thinking about it I would have thought the 'Rose' would have been the '6' as well, strange design choice I think.)
Anyway, the dice mix up actually worked out well for the game IMO, it really did delay the Nevill's forces advance onto the table. But as the old saying goes "no plan survives the first shot". But I really did enjoy watching the battle and how it unfolded, thank you guys.
Oh, and 'Yes please' to a rematch, I am sure it will be just as good. :)

Hey man, really enjoying your content, really great to see WotRs stuff. I watched the first video of this campaign, the river crossing in Wales between Percy and Neville. Fantastic campaign concept, really exciting, however I can't seem to find the 2nd and 3rd installment. Not even sure if this is actually part of that progression. Can anyone assist. Avid Fan.
Hey, thanks so much, unfortunately due to circumstances this campaign had to stop but we have another one starting using the same system soon based on the War in the North in 1464. The games following this are more of a loose narrative Campaign that sort of evolved as we went along 👍
Who adapted these Hail Caesar rules? You? I’ve been listening to Dan Jones’s the Hollow Crown. Hard to follow. Big mess. Still struggling to work out how Henry Tudor is part of the Lancastrians. Or how the Yorkists killed each other leaving only Richard. Lovely vid BTW.
Yeah, i started with the qhick rules Rick Priestley had done then added and modified them to suit how we felt it reflected the period then added more rules for commanders and cannons etc
It's a pretty convoluted period but one which holds alot of scope for wargaming 👍
These dice with the symbol on the one are a pain in the but, I have gone rid of all dice I had with this bad thing.
Game looks great so far. Have to get more miniatures purchased , build and paint to get going with some Warlord Games Rule Sets

Another great batrep. I was wondering, have you any plans to include Irish mercs in your WotR armies? I was looking at some of the offerings from Perry the other day, and they’ve got some pretty cool Kern hand gunners.
I've done some stats for kern with or without javelins and Gallowglass with 2 handed weapons, handguns will be in the next update 👍

Books , Pollards book WOTR is simply the best introductary(i,m dyslexic) book on the subject I have ever read , so i,ve just ordered,North-Eastern England During the Wars of the Roses
North-Eastern England During the Wars of the Roses 1450-1500 A J Pollard, hopefully it will inform me on early modern class politics in the Towns , and give me some ideas for WOTR Hail ceaser rules.

You've really made me want to get into painting miniatures by Perry. I just don't know if I'm gonna be good or not

Mostly Perry, though now i heavily convert and kitbas across the sets. I also have some front rank, first corps, steel fist and athena miniatures mixed in here and there 👍
