- This summer Little Wars TV made the journey across the Atlantic to visit the UK for a week of gaming, museums, and historical tours. En route to the "Joy of Six" show in Sheffield, we stopped by Nottingham for a visit with the Perry brothers. It was an absolute blast to spend several hours with Alan and Michael Perry, two legends of the miniature tabletop hobby!
Alan and Michael are world-class miniature sculptors, and whether you enjoy historical or fantasy gaming, there's a good chance you've painted or played with figures they hand-sculpted. Today we're stealing a glimpse inside Alan's game room and chatting about what they like to play at home, what's coming next for Perry Miniatures, and much more. If you're looking for your next 28mm historical project or you want to check out their FREE new Napoleonic game rules, visit them here:
www.perry-minia...
Next week we’ll be back to review their latest game, “Valour & Fortitude,” co-authored by Jervis Johnson.
Hard to imagine where the miniature wargaming hobby would even be without these two
Total legends. Their Sudan boxed sets are imho the best plastic sets on the market
It would probably just be Warhammer mostly
@Aggromemnon lol
@Aggromemnon hahaha god you are spot on.
@@niksatt4843 they also worked on warhammer no?
Thanks for posting this - I really respect the Perrys for their wargame contributions - that will live on forever. Long live the Perry brothers!
Well said! Legends of the hobby.
Long live the Perry Brothers!
Long live the Perry Brothers!
Long live the Perry Brothers!
Long live the Perry Brothers!
Two absolute legends! Like many, learned of their talent through GW (back when they credited their staff!) and the Perry's company really opened the door for me and historical
I still remember when the news hit that one brother had lost his lower arm during a reenactment. Reteaching yourself to sculpt with your other hand... humans are amazing.
And the first mini he sculpted after the accident was... The Green Knight 😳
@@mlys7184 I thought it was Repance (sp) The Bret std bearer. Either way a nice mini
Not to mention that he can still hold a beer with his shortened limb….legendary stuff!
What happened exactly?
@@goatman9998 If I remember correctly, it had something to do with a cannon. May be wrong, but that's what i recall.
The amount of quality and art that goes into their sculpts and miniatures are legendary.
And all hand-made. That's incredible. So many sculptors today use digital tools but the Perry figures are all 100% hand sculpted from wire and green stuff. Amazing to see it in progress.
@@LittleWarsTV And it shows. There is an authenticity doing it the old fashioned way, in my opinion. Hopefully they'll continue to make these miniature works of art for many years to come!
They are exceptionally gracious and generous hosts! I visited both their game rooms in October. They just want to share their passion and knowledge.
In the 90's.... these guys were awesome. I remember reading the White Dwarf when he lost his hand, due to the Cannon accident.
I have been a Perry's miniature fan for a long time and to see them in this video was a real treat...Thank You.
I litteraly fell in love with warhammer and scenery building when I saw their collection and tables displayed in warhammer v6 rulebook almost 20years ago. The memory of the pictures is still vivid ❤
Bet the Littlewars TV gang were like kids in a candy store to get in there to see the games room. Must be something else to sculpt and paint your own armies. Each piece looked exquisite.
"Kid in a candy store" sums it up pretty well! Everywhere you looked, there was something to see. And the Perrys have so much history in the hobby and lots of fun stories to tell. The whole afternoon flew by before we knew it!
Now we need to see the Perry Brothers visiting the Little Wars TV clubhouse.
They have a standing invite any time!
You lucky bastiges! The Perry brothers have single-handedly brought 28mm gaming and minis to another level. I want that figure of Prince Bagration. He and Platov are my most admired Russians from that period.
Two of the most influential guys ever to historical games. Been following the Perry brothers since GW days before the accident. So happy to see you guys again.
Legends of the hobby. Anyone who enjoys toy soldiers with dice owes a real debt to these fine fellows. Happily, I don't think anyone would want to deny them. Thank you for posting!
what you said at the end was true for me too, recently met Jes Goodwin while we were having a pint at warhammer world, and hes such a nice bloke, very funny.
And surprisingly deep voice for his size
Fantastic! I'm green with envy that you were able to visit the Perry's hallowed gaming room!
I agree!
Such an amazing game room, the sort of place we all aspire to have. Amazing to think how many good wargaming rules sets were born in that room!
Love how it is mostly history but than a big old orc full plate fantasy suite in there as well. Some epic fun nights have been had in this room that is for sure, you can tell.
The Perrys make the best miniatures out there, full stop. Absolute treasures of human beings. Cheers!
We too are big fans of their sculpts and ranges.
Legends of sculpting, I have some of their recent figures and some of their Citadel Feudals from the 80s, and a bit of everything in between
These two are top class mini makers & human beings.
Had a query about the fit of one of their British miniatures, Alan got back to me by email within the day to explain how things went together. Absolute gents - the embodiment of the best the hobby can be.
The 5th edition Bretonnian Questing knights are my most prized miniatures. I just love them! Along with pretty much everything else they ever worked on.
Love the Perrys sculpts, Their houses and gaming setup is so cool.
Heroes!!!
Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I have those Japanese villagers figures from way back in the day! With some ninja and ronin - absolutely lovely sculpts. I remember seeing those paint jobs and being in awe.
And they just have DRAWERS of amazing painted figures all around the table. Every door or cubby you opened was a treasure trove of 28mm miniatures
I was very honoured to meet both of these gentlemen back in 2012 while they were in New Zealand. They are great people has the video shows.
The 'Dogs Of War' WHFB Miniatures they sculpted are some of my favourite ever - outstanding.
I remember back in the day when I worked for GW I actually got to see those terrain boards that the Perry twins had built in the flesh. 25 years later they still awesome. Also didn’t realise you’re in my hometown in Sheffield.
Awwwww, how fantastic guys! Great video! The Perry twins are awesome. Have you thought of maybe touring your home/wargame room/meeting place to show off your collections? Thank you for sharing this great post! Cheers!
Love these two gentlemen. I’ve grown up on thepir mini’s and sometimes I still get surprised on the quality of their sculpts.
As you said these guys are legends.awesome figure makers.
It's nice to see the hobby of Wargaming still going .... Memories of Airfix figures in the 1960's and books by Donald Featherstone for me - making up my own rules etc. A trip to the fledgling RAAC Museum at Puckapunyal saw a change to WW2 Desert Campaign 1940-1942..... Most entertaining
The Y in Ye is really the old English letter 'thorn' - pronounced 'th'.
I love their ‘Luke warm in Cairo’ set. Plays perfect homage to the movie!
I've been in that room with the Perrys, Jervis Johnson and (if I remember correctly) Rick Priestley, playing a simple napo game with some simplified rules around 10 years ago. It was an amazing experience.
And my favourite mini was an unreleased little stork mini. :D
Very nice hobby rooms. Talking to the Perry bros must have been a true treat with the old English tavern to boot.
Great lads the Perrys, they were kind enough to answer a query I sent them about how they made their tiles modular, so I was able to follow their advice and make my own.
Stellar blokes, always nice to see them.
Outstanding! Thank you for all of your great work for the hobby. Cheers.
Excellent video. Huge fan of everything Alan and Michael do. Keep up the great content
Wargaming Royalty, I would have been happy with just a pint with the Perrys.
Awesome. Because of you guys I’m starting my first Napoleonic Army and switching to historical war gaming. 👍🏻
The Perrys are my heroes. Nice interview.
I met them at The Great Game in Glasgow. They were standing beside my Hanoverian Brigade talking to Tony Pollard and I kind of excused myself to pretend to adjust one of my units and they turned to look at them. I got talking to them and pointed out that no one makes a Hanoverian Infantry Bulger with a Belgic Sako for Kielmansegges Bde and took the opportunity to ask them "would you mind adding one to your range" To date they havn't added one to their range :)
Absolutely incredible. Thanks for sharing
Certified Ye Oldest legends in gaming right there!
Have the utmost respect for the Perry brothers, incredible sculptors
This video being recommended to me was quite the coincidence given that yesterday I bought a Perry Miniatures kit of the Agincourt Foot Knights and assembled one of them not even an hour ago.
Look at that….TH-cam doing its job!
Awesome. Well done and envious of your being able to actually get a proper 20 oz. pint of best bitter.
NIce video. Though I can't wait for your guys next game! Hope to see it soon!
It's too bad you couldn't get a game in with the twins, Rick, and Jervis. I would've liked to have seen a Black Powder game with all of you in it. I would've been "fanboying" over here, seeing both my idols of today clash with my idols of the past. 😆 Otherwise, it was still a great video! 👏 👏 👏
I remember meeting the Perry's at Golden Demon, such great blokes
Excellent video, am looking up Perry Miniatures immediately 😀
The Peter Gilder equivalent for the 21st Century, great advocates for our brilliant hobby/ obsession.
Great video. Happy New Year!
This is awesome. What a cool gaming room. Any tips on how to convince my wife to let me do this in the spare bedroom? This gives me a hankering to play GW's Lord of the Rings Fantasy Battles game too.
Hah, I think we are ALL looking for tips and tricks on that particular question....
So cool. Thanks for that!
2 real Legends :)
Incredible opportunity, Keep it up!
Do British people struggle to understand American accents? I am having a horrible time understanding the brothers.
I love your work, gentlemen. Thanks.
This looks so cool.
The pigeon audience at the end was a treat to see.
really two of my childhood heroes!😊
Legendary sculptors!
I suppose this house should become a Museum in a distant future!!
wow, I am incredibly jealous.
Awesome!!👍🤾☠️
Would have loved to have met you all, love your vlogs
He is such a good sculptor.
Hey, if you have not already bought them, check out the Perry's 28mm Franco-Prussian plastics. The 2 boxes released so far are the best quality minis for the price. I got 5 boxes of the Prussians for under $30 apiece.
Everyone watching this video: WOW. look at the boards, the minis, even the paraphernalia! Me: Is that a rotary phone still plugged in to the wall?!
Hahah YES, it is.
The oldest in Nottingham is most likely Ye old Salutation Inn. During the English Civil War, Parliament used the nearby churchtower at St Nics as a battery for a cannon to bombard the castle. I believe there is a record from them of the Inn being there. Ye Old Trip dates to about a century later.
Wow very cool...
Cant believe some of the 'GODS' of the hobby keep all them amazing minitures in draws, well blow me, they would all be in glass cabs. I would prize them above the fangs in my head!
Drawers probably keep the dust off better.
@@accountnamewithheld still would have cabinets, which also keep dust off, and even LED lighting for the mood setting. Next level......
A Most Beautiful game room good English Sirs. 👍 Amazing 👏 God Bless.
The best!!!
Great!
they are cool dudes, they should win an oscar of wargaming or something.
DUDE!
I am so old. I remember when one of the twins had his arm injured. Was it loading a cannon?
Wow
Top model makers
Their Dogs of War ismy dream.
I'm surprised they still sculpt in green stuff. So many modern sculptors have switched over to CAD.
Nephew works in the Jerusalem 🙂
Amazing pub! Such a cool atmosphere and setting next to the castle walls.
@@LittleWarsTV good beer, great atmosphere and almost as many layers to the pub as you'll find within the castle cave system 🙂
Are the troops for black powder?
Trip to Jerusalem and have been there a few times...
Let’s face it, no one will ever know which is actually the oldest surviving pub in the uk, despite all their various claims!
Apparently it’s my local Wetherspoons
@@leespiderpod LOL
Здоровья вам, мужики
Even though it’s spelt Ye it is still pronounced The. Very confusing I know.
Why don’t you just upload the entire interview here on TH-cam? Makes one scratch their head
We don’t upload raw footage to our channel-everything we’ve posted since starting has been well edited. As to why we sometimes post additional segments on our website and not on here, that’s pretty obvious-it drives traffic to our website.
🤩👍🏻😃👍🏻😊👍🏻
Ill bet those damn Brits make sure the UK wins the American Revolution game every time 😂
There is not enough Ritalin available…

Duly appreciated!
Great gaming space! If the walls could speak of past days of high adventure!
Alan had some very friendly wood pigeons in his garden.
what to say about the Perry twins? I don't know, just look at their works and how they were painted!🤘👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
And a big fluffy black cat.
Genii at home.
