Tywin has no choice but to stand down in this scenario. Otherwise he’s at war with the Crownlands, Stormlands, North, Riverlands, Dorne, and potentially the Reach and Vale. The best Tywin can do is probably try to wave the Crown’s debt to the Lannisters in exchange for his grandkids being made legitimate Lannisters. I don’t think Robert remarries since he wanted to bring his bastard daughter Mya Stone to court. He probably legitimizes Mya and Eddric Storm his bastard son being fostered in Storm’s End

@@noamias4897 Tywin would never let Tyrion be heir so he would pick Joffrey only to eventually realize that Joffrey was worthless. Considering how little he cared about Joffrey death in the actual series I imagine he wouldn’t really care about him and may even maneuver him into doing something to get him disinherited. Then I guess Tywin would start training Tommen to be heir.

Something else that was put in motion pre-Robert death was Ned sending Beric Dondarrion to hunt down The Mountain. Beric was killed and resurrected like 4 times before he and his men heard Robert and Ned were dead, and it was after they were dead that the Brotherhood without banners was formed. So we still have Beric, Thoros, and his boys in conflict with Gregor and his men, but they still have the authority of the king.
Also Tywin was ordered to come to King's Landing to answer for The Mountain's crimes, without Robert dead before he arrives he'd still be on the hook for that and be there in person for the Cersei-Jaime incest allegations as well.
Without support I think The Mountain would eventually be worn down and killed by Beric and his men as Beric can still call on reinforcements while Tywin will probably have his hands tied.

Depending on where the kids are when Robert finds out, they might survive. Assuming that Robert's given enough time to calm down, he might let them live on in exile like the Targaryens. But Cersei and Jaime would definitely die. What they did was punishable by death and it's probably the deepest form of betrayal. I can't think of anything more underhanded. Like Ned said. This wasn't brave or honourable. It was poison in the dark. A knife thrust at his very soul. Unlike the kids, they're 100% guilty. He'd take them out.

Here’s what I think could happen:
Cersei is executed. Ned persuades Robert to spare the children and they’re shipped off somewhere to be wards of lesser houses or maybe they’re sent to the Free Cities.
Tywin has to fight to defend the Lannister honour and to protect Jaime, but he has little to no chance of victory. Ned would order Robb to call the Northern banners. Robert calls the armies of the Crownlands whilst Renly Marshalls the Storm Lords. Oberyn Martell leads a Dornish army purely to destroy the Lannisters. The Tyrell’s offer Margaery to Robert as a bride in exchange for their armies. Robert would probably accept. Loras Tyrell takes Jaime’s place in the Kingsguard.
    Balon Greyjoy does something stupid.
Lysa keeps the Vale armies at home.
The Royal Army commanded by Robert smashes Tywin’s much smaller army and forces him to retreat to Casterly Rock. Robert demands Tywin hand over Jaime for execution and offers Tywin a chance to surrender if he takes the Black.
Afterwards everyone goes and trashes the Iron Islands again and executes Balon.

    • @SolFundamentum
      @SolFundamentum 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Very good assessment.
I don’t think it’d escalate that far, I think Tywin would offer up Jaime and try to bargain the legitimisation of Cersei’s children (who’d then become his heirs). Although I don’t think Robert would accept. Best case scenario for Jaime is Tywin trying to leverage the debt he’s owed by the Crown to get him sent to the Wall instead of straight up executed.
Tywin wouldn’t risk the blatant and obvious obliteration of his house when he knows he stands no chance of winning. No amount of gold, armies, scheming or political manoeuvring would get him out of this.
He’d probably have to swallow his pride and name Tyrion as heir to Casterly Rock. Or be extra petty and swallow even more pride and look to his brother’s side of the family.
Yeah, the real question is whether Robert would legitimise his bastard son or take Margaery as his bride and produce new, legitimate heirs to the throne.
The latter scenario could create the seeds for a future conflict where Robert’s bastards challenge Robert’s legitimate heirs from Margaery for the throne.

The Tyrells' want Margaery to be Queen so if not Robert then either push one of Robert's bastards or Renly. Tywin will be scheming his way back to power. I don't think it will be immediate, I think he'll wait to gather strength & forge alliances before doing anything. Dorne will probably keep doing what they're doing in the books. Strategically speaking, the Margaery marriage makes a lot of sense. It completely eliminates the possibility of Tywin trying anything (he can't dream of winning against Robert's alliance + The Reach combined) and gives the crown a very rich alternative backer in the form of the second wealthiest house in the realm... much needed given the crown's debt.
I don't imagine Robert would be into the marriage beyond the political (and the sex now again, lol), but he wasn't into the marriage with Cersei for any reason beyond that either so that might not stop him. Also helps that Margaery (show Margaery in particular) is FAR less emotionally driven than Cersei and doesn't seem to care at all whether her King "loves" her as long as she's able to function as Queen. Ironically, Robert may *like* Margaery's eagerness to play politics since it excuses him to do anything else but. He wants to be hands off unless it's battle, she wants to be hands-on if its in court. Win win.
I could see it happening, if Renly and Ned convince him.

Cersei and Jaime would 100% be put to the sword.
The only shot they have at surviving is a trial by combat with Cersei naming The Mountain as her champion, which would be in character for her and Jaime naming himself as his own champion.
But even then, due to the severity of their crimes, Robert might abuse his power and refuse them a trial of combat and have them executed on the spot.
Tywin’s hands would be tied. He’d have lost his only heir (in his eyes) and it’d be pointless for him to even consider raising up arms against Robert. For what purpose? It’d just be another Greyjoy rebellion, just lengthier and a little bit more challenging. Tywin can’t take on Robert as King, the realm would stand by Robert and crush Tywin.
Tywin would be forced to accept Robert’s verdict and denounce his dead children and bargain to have their kids legitimised - purely because he doesn’t want to make Tyrion heir of Casterly Rock.
Robert would probably decline that offer, but it’s not that 100%, it really depends on what Ned advises him. I don’t think Robert would want to legitimise them, but Ned could persuade him to do so to keep a peaceful relationship with Tywin.
Tywin would then probably play the long game and maybe try to interfere with Daenerys’ campaign, hoping that she might re-claim her throne & try to position himself in a way that seals the future of House Lannister.
There’d be no rebellions in the North, no one would dare move in on Winterfell whilst Ned Stark was alive, let alone Robert. And even if they did, any opposition would be squashed by a kingdom that’s still united under Robert’s fist.
Robert would legitimise his bastard and grant him heirship to the Iron Throne. This could spark a semi-rebellion after he dies in this timeline, with possibly Renly trying to usurp the throne from Robert’s bastard child, but I don’t think Stannis would allow it - being as dutiful as he is.
The only real threat to Robert’s reign would be Daenerys. And with a realm still united under his cause, they’d stand a better chance at combating her, but the dragons obviously change everything.
I think Robert (and probably Ned at this point) would up the assassination attempts the moment it became apparent that Danny had dragons.

If Robert lived, here is how I would see it going, in the show Tyrion was captured on his way to the Vale, and Jamie ran off to seek his father, just as Robert went off to drink and hunt over the cluster fuck in his mind of Ned's actions. Circe in the book and show was already plotting to kill Robert Baratheon and even attempted in the tourney by using reverse psychology on him so he'd enter the melee and be killed by an unblunted sword. Now with this failed one Eddard Stark still discovers what he discovers in the meantime and sends out the king's men after The Mountain once pillaging starts with that psycho. That still happens and Circe is still warned and I think she conspires with Peter Baelish and the captain of the gold cloaks with promises in between her legs and gold and positions once Joffery is on the throne, I think she'd be crazy enough to try and with Lannister guards, 2000 gold cloaks and Peter wanting Ned out of the way they could have a chance of doing it, but with the king's guard, Stark house guard and Renly's 200 men and personal guard they could last long enough to convince the lower gold cloaks to betrayer their superiors in exchange for a share in the gold of Casterly Rock and also long enough to send word to the rest of the seven kingdoms that the Lannisters have betrayed the king and that their lives are forfeit. Dorn would answer that with bells on and spear in hand. I think Circe fucks up royally lol pun intended and basically Tywin leaves the seven kingdoms knowing he can't fight all the houses and even drags Jamie with him tied up. Tyrion is basically dead, and Robert is turned into a war machine because he knows no pain in war as he was in the show already preparing for wars and conflicts when he confided in Ned. long term I see him Marrying Margary Tyrell and Stannis actually being rewarded slash tasked with taking over the Westlands as its new warden of the West. Robert fathered son after son, and Ned slowly watched Arya become an excellent fencer while Sansa was sent back to Winterfell. Robert Stark will eventually hear the word of the men of the night's watch and may take a stance to substantiate what they mean by the dead rising. I think with Robert now not drinking is even worse for the kingdom as he's a barrel of wildfire ready to go up. I think the spider Varyes uses Tywin's exile to advantage to bring back Dany into the fold as he was planning on overthrowing Robert to begin with. Now with a vengeful Jamie and Tywin and Dani without Khal Drogo, Tywin sees the little queen as his only chance to go back to the seven kingdoms and for Jamie to be king. I think Tywin in Essos is dangerous, sexy and scary all rolled into one. Would Dani be convinced of Tywin's usefulness, no clue but the thought of a vengeful even deadlier Jamie who would train and train till he was raw and ragged and could swing a blade to damn near perfection, I'd love to see how it rolls with Dani looking at the man that killed her father. Would it be a one-episode mess? Maybe, probably, but Tywin is armoured in swagger so if anybody had a chance out of the Lannisters it would be Tyrion and Tywin.

I can imagine a scene going like this:
Ned request Robert if he can speak about something with him.
First Ned talks about the book and the lineage’s, Robert would laugh and says that “Get your head out of that book Ned, You sound like a maester.”
Then would request his Vayon Poole to let the bastards in.
Aedric looks proud, Gendry looks nervous and Maya looks happy to see her dad again (maybe there are two extra to help bring the point home).
Ned start talking about his bastards and Robert would joke that Gendry could be Renly’s.
Ned would speak about how one of the extra bastard’s mother was blonde and but despite that they all look like him.
Ned speaks about the book again.
At this point Robert’s smile drops and yells at Ned to stop talking.
He walks to a seat and sits, he takes off his crown and looks at it dejected.
“How can a king be such a fool Ned.”
“The only I’ve done burying the kingdom in dept.” He says.
“You or John Arryn should’ve worn this crown.”
He looks up and makes a move to give the crown to Ned.
Ned refuses and says “My place is in the north, Stannis is the heir now”.
    Robert grumbles a laugh.
“Only you would refuse to be king of the seven kingdoms Ned.”
Ned says that Jamie,Tywin and Gregor are burning their way through the Riverlands.
Robert says he should’ve put Jamie down or send him to the wall for betraying his oath to Aerrys and laughs at the irony of it.
After laughing Robert says that he has to at least do one good thing before stepping down as king and says to call the banners.

Ned tells Robert about Cersei + Jamie etc. Robert believes him, might take a day to get through to him (otherwise Ned quits and goes home, but it wouldn't come to that). Ned warns Cersei before telling Robert. Cersei and Jamie and the three brats head for Casterly Rock. Robert sends an army to Casterly Rock. Tywin either hands them over, helps them run, or fights. It's a losing fight. So he helps them run. They head across the sea. Robert wants to execute Tywin but Ned and Tywin between them talks him down. The end. 🤔

If Robert lives, Ned lives and there's probably no war until Faegon. Tywin's smart, he knows what his kids have been doing even if he won't admit and because of that he's had a patsy in place the whole time. To ensure he can save his Golden Boy Jaime so he isn't stuck with Tyrion as heir.
He'd have Jaimie locked under Casterly Rock to keep him safe. While he throws Cersei under the bus, telling her if she wants to save her children, she better pin the Adultery on Ser Preston Greenfield. A Blonde-haired Kingsguard Knight from the Westerlands, who Tywin likely sent with her when she married Robert. Preston's already a known adulator, who sleeps with the draper's wife when he's out of town.
It's like a Tywin last-ditch 4D chess move that was set up all along. Then he falls back to Casterly Rock with Jaime and Tyrion,
with no hope of establishing any meaningful alliance because before Cersei's head can start to rot on the pike Robert's gonna put it on,
he's gonna have his new young wife Margery Tyrell warming his bed with a true-born heir in her belly.
but before Cersei meets ICE, she's gonna cast some doubt by denying any involvement in Jon Arryn's death(which is gonna come up )
and that could be enough to make Ned and Robert clean house. Pycelle, Littlefinger, and Varys. Replaced with Stannis, Renly, and if Ned can recommend
Wyman Manderley to replace Littlefinger. he's pretty good with coin, and one of the few people fiercely loyal to Ned that has a bit of slyness.
Since Cersei was the only reason he sent Edric away from court, and Ned's treatment of Jon as an example. I think he brings his 3 bastards to court (Maya/Edric and Gendry(on Ned's recommendation)
No Crown backing, no reason for Rob to make any agreement with Walder. No Opening for the risk-averse Roose Bolton to exploit,
No sign of weakness to make Baylon get cocky. Then The North/Riverlands, Crown/Stormlands, and Reach are all united. and Tywin on his best behavior.
Barristan(even though he hates Ned because he thinks he plowed Ashara) stays now that Honorable Ned has helped get the kingdom back on track and Robert back in shape, by putting him on that guilt trip grind set for letting Jon Arryn die and almost usurped with bastards.
Whipping Robert into the King he should be. Barristan stays, so Dany dies while Robert keeps his hands clean because the Warlocks did it via Manticore
No beef with Ned or Robert then, heck they probably don't hear about it until Jorah comes back groveling or trying to take credit for killing her, but likely end up on the Wall with his Pops and in a weird rivalry with Jon for his father's acceptance.
Everything being all good in the kingdom and him getting the boot screws Varys' Aegon plot. Dorne and the Golden Company vs. Six Kingdoms...
9-Penny Kings Part 2, With Dorne having beef with Tywin there isn't even an opening for him there either.
The Young Wolf, Garland, Loras and maybe even Renly/Edric will have a chance to gain some glory by stamping out the final Blackfire rebellion.
If Stannis, Robert, and Ned don't hog it all up.. But just like with the Melee Robert wanted to fight in, Ned's able to keep him off the Frontlines

Tywin's hands are tied if Robert lives, he can't wage war against the rest of Westeros. Jaime and Cercei are executed for their respective crimes, the only question is whether Robert can be convinced to spare the children but I wouldn't bet on Ned there.Robert marries Margaery, fathers a bunch of dark-haired children on her, the end.
House Lannister is seriously dishonored, but Tywin bends to knee and meekly watches his kids die, knowing that they one hundred percent deserved it. He still needs a non-dwarfish heir to Casterly Rock, but that was the case already. Maybe this massive setback makes him reconsider Tyrion, finally names him as the official heir.
Stannis comes back to court, forms an anti-Tyrell block with Ned against the growing Tyrell influence. The two of them probably have greater sway over the king because Robert's unlikely to trust his new wife or her family, at least early on.

So let's assume that the divergence occurs when Robert slays the boar instead of dying. By this time, Tyrion has been seized by Catelyn, Tywin and the Westerlands are marching on the Riverlands, Jaime has fled King's Landing after wounding Ned and killing Jory.
I think it depends on whether Cersei is still in King's Landing by the time Robert returns, because she is expecting him to be dead as per the assassination plan. But if she sees Robert riding in un-gored, I think there's a very good chance she gathers the children and runs. The question is whether she can do it without Ned and Co. noticing, but I think the promise of Lannister gold and the right bribes to the right people get Cersei out of King's Landing before Ned has a chance to speak with Robert, and for Robert to accept the truth. So there is a very good chance that Cersei and the kids are halfway to the Westerlands by the time Robert sends anyone after them.
Assuming Cersei makes it to Tywin's camp safely (and assuming Jaime got there already), Tywin's got two of his three kids in his custody. And we already know Tywin will go to war over his least favourite child, and now his darling twins are the scapegoats of the kingdom? Nah, he's going hard at it . . . but the problem is, he's got no allies. He's already fighting the Riverlands, the North/Stormlands/Crownlands are under Robert/Ned's alliance, the Vale is neutral but would lean anti-Lannister for appearance's sake, the Reach probably would be aligned with the Crown because they sense an opportunity (not to mention the Renly connection), and Dorne hates the Lannisters. The Ironborn are a decent ally to have but Balon just got wrecked by the full might of Robert less than a decade earlier; he's not risking that happening again. The only reason he rose in rebellion again was because there was no unity after Robert's death. The Greyjoys probably stay out of the war entirely, or at least delay any sort of real response the way they did in the Dance.
So what's Tywin's move here? He risks not just the death of his beloved children, but also his own head and the future of House Lannister. At this point, he's only got two moves. Either attack and hope that Lannister wealth gets him as far as it can (which is far but probably not far enough), or he capitulates and pleads ignorance to the incest/betrayal. He may even be able to plead for clemency with Robert for Jaime/Joffrey/Tommen and have them sent to the Night's Watch and Cersei/Myrcella to the Silent Sisters, in exchange for Tywin forgiving the crown's debt to the Lannisters. Tywin buys his way out of getting his house extinguished.
Regardless of what happens to the traitorous Lannisters, I think Ned advises Robert to rename Stannis as his heir, as they still want to forge a new true marriage alliance with another house so that Robert can have a trueborn heir rather than legitimizing a bastard. I do think this is where the Tyrells immediately step up with the Margaery-as-Lyanna plan Renly's hatched. I think in the wake of the Cersei betrayal, Robert may be reluctant to wed again but all eyes would be on him, and come on -- Robert's not going to turn down Margaery. They just might keep a 24/7 eye on her to make sure she doesn't have any male interaction with anyone else but Robert until she's proven pregnant. So long as there aren't any fertility issues on Margaery's end, there will likely be a trueborn heir of Bobby B's in quick succession and things are put back on track.
Robert is not likely to have any deathbed regrets over the Daenerys assassination plan, and if/when he hears about the dragon eggs hatching, he makes sure she's taken out ASAP, and without Barristan to save her, that side of things is put down. (I assume that there may be those in place to warn Daenerys of the coming attempts, but Barry's arrival seemed to blindside everyone and I doubt he would abandon the Kingsguard just for her.) With Daenerys out of the way, there's only left the nascent Aegon VI plan, but I think the realm is much more stable now that it is not likely to proceed as planned.

Tywin gets Joffrey to marry Danerys. (Joffrey subsequently eventually burned by a dragon.) This thus causes Ned to tell Jon who his parents were like he promised he would next time he seen him. Knowing Jon’s a Targaryen Robert attempts to kill Jon causing the North and Ned to rebel. Rob marches south and the Wed wedding still happens. Jamie having taken the black is now in the North and him and Bran have an adventure of their own. Having three Dragons now Tywin is in prime position. Cersei is now controlling and manipulating Danny and takes on a Varys Little finger role. And then… I haven’t finished writing my book yet. I’ll release the rest when GRRM releases his 😅lol

This is a pretty good breakdown! Spray I think it’s just to go a bit off back speakers jump to Canon events to see if they would still happen, instead of analyzing the forks that are created if different choices are made.
We have to remember that while Robert was on the hunt Ned had already confronted Cersei, so she’s already on edge. If Robert lives, and we know that Ned lives long enough to see him return, the first question is how long it takes for him to convince the king of this betrayal.
Then we have to consider how Robert would handle each member. Speaking strictly in the show, king Robert doesn’t have much compassion towards Targaryen children, putting in the books. It was noted that he didn’t fully agree with killing children. So they have a chance he would not want to kill the kids for being what they are. I think he would more likely try to have them sent, especially with Ned as his hand.
I think both Circe and Jamie would be locked up to face trial. Although he would want them killed probably right away, we also know that at least in the show the crown is in debt to Lannister. We also know that killing both Cercei and Jamie would likely result in retaliation from Tywin. Given these factors, I think Robert and Ned would Summon Tywin as well. I think that Freys also only sided with Tywin because of his power and the broken promise, but with Ned alive certain promises could be kept or renegotiated. Likewise, Walder wouldn’t go up against the full might of the crown for Tywin.
If Robert lives, there is too much stability in the Realm for all out war. Either Peace is brokered or House Lannister fights a losing battle.
NONE of this includes the machinations of the small council… the question becomes whether any of them want to risk another way to kill the king and assume power. Could Varys or Baelish be convinced to betray the crown and support Joffrey’s claim before alliances are drawn? Would they be willing to risk it and would they see any benefit? Would they find much benefit in unseating Robert? Under him there’s been no real war, each has risen in power and could continue to influence the future without regicide.
Tbh, I think most of the events simply get erased so long as Robert lives. The last question is whether Robert remarries to produce new heirs or names one of his bastards like Gendry.
I think he’d be convinced into an Alliance with the Tyrells who are, in the show, the richest family with the largest standing army. (Assuming the marriage with Renly isn’t already secure-forgive my failing memory.)
I believe the children are spared, Cersei is imprisoned or exiled, and Jaime…. Well. As much as he should be killed, I think politics would call result in negotiation because Tywin would never allow the death of his heir as we have seen. I think Killing Jaime would be considered as foolish as killing Ned was.
Now in the Event that Robert doesn’t care for politics and decides to kill them, he’s basically okay with war against the Lannisters. Given this new position, though, I do not think Tywin would have enough allies to oppose the crown. House Baratheon would stand united. House Stark and the North will stand with the crown. The Vale and the Riverlands will stand with Ned and thus the Crown. House Tyrell will likely see an opportunity and stand with the Crown. No one would want to fight a losing fight. The Greyjoys would stay less relevant because they don’t care for mainland politics and only sided with Tywin because he has power
