He's the same man who caved in Rhaegar's chest plate with a single strike.
The thing abought robert is that for all his strength many men did block his hammer, or at minimum dodge it, Jaime may lack the force needed to stop the hammer without dying, but he does not lack the speed needed
@calebbarnhouse496 True but Robert is no slouch either. Pretty sure he and Rhaegar fought knee deep in water and he was still moving agile enough to keep pace with him. Plus his hammer will definitely give him reach over most smaller opponents, Jaime included. Again, it's hard to tell who'd win, but I'd give prime Robert the victory over Jaime 7 times out of 10.
@richyrich6099 I'm not saying Robert is some weak man, but his strength was nothing compared the mountain's and his skill was nothing when compared to Jaime's, he's no doubt a great fighter, but he's far from unbeatable
@calebbarnhouse496 I'd honestly debate that point, tbh. Robert and Gregor Clegane are almost the same exact size and there's nothing in the books that confirms that Gregor is somehow abnormally strong or skilled for his size. While I'd acknowledge that Gregor probably has more physical strength than Robert, there's nothing to say it's some major discrepency or that Gregor is more skilled in combat than Robert. EDIT: So ignore the first paragraph cause I was definitely misremembering Robert's size vs the Mountain's and made myself look real stupid. I think I was comparing Robert's height to the Hound's height. As for Robert's skill, it's definitely comparable to Jaime given that Jaime is basically just Rhaegar 2.0. Rhaegar was one of the best duelists and jousters in Westeros prior to his death, and Robert killed him. While I'll acknowledge that Jaime is definitely more skilled than Rhaegar, I don't think it's by much of a discrepancy to where Robert would lose entirely in terms of skill. Both fights (Robert vs Jaime or Robert vs The Mountain) are very close, imo. People severely underestimate Robert's skill in his prime considering what he accomplished against Rhaegar, who was stated to be one of the best swordsmen of his day.
Robert and Sandoq the Shadow fight for 3 straight days then become best pals and take turns pounding Neds cold northern ass. Jaime gets his ass pounded. Going fully based on speculation Robert beats Arthur 5/10 times, depends on the day and who got sun in their eyes first. "Bonesaw" Barristan "The Bold" Selmy wins. Selmy takes down big dudes like Meleys and made that pitfighter Khrazz his bitch. Plus Selmy doesn't need a magic sword to get the job done unlike Arthur. I can't give you Hotpie based on the "arena style" rules you set but, if it was on a battlefield Hotpie would be unstoppable.
Fair assessment. I think your 5/10 for Arthur is fair WITHOUT Dawn the plot device. The only guaranteed thing is that Ned wont be able to walk until winter comes
I say Barristan goes either way all it would take from Robert is one good hit and if he managed to disarm Barristan it would be fucking brutal it's impossible to know but if Barristan someho got disarmed or didn't parry a hit in time or fuck it I'm not sure he could pare Robert it's very circumstancial
22:08 barristan the bold was a name given when barristan was 10 years old when he participated in first tournament and lost the jousting against the prince. 6 years later he would win
GRRM has stated that Barristan and Arthur are pretty evenly matched and would draw most likely, but if Arthur has Dawn, he's gonna eventually get Barristan.
I think it is weird given the potential context of Lyanna willingly going with Rhaegar and wanting Ned to take her child, that the kingsguard would fight Ned and Howland. That being said, if they did Howland would destroy the heavily armored Dayne. It used to be a type of gladiator fight and the guy with the spear and fishing net ALWAYS wins.
We do have Bran witnessing the flashback and being stunned by Dayne’s abilities. He has probably seen enough battles traveling through time, so if he is impressed It may mean something
Can you guys do a "What if Jaime doubled back and defended Elia Martell and her children?" (If you want Jaime to shish kabob The Mountain and Amory Lorch that is 😊). *I understand how messy that can get... the narrative.
Biggest Jaime feat imo, is the Whispering wood. Jaime was almost singlehandedly cutting his way through Robbs best men and was stopped by sword getting caught on a spine. It was a perfect trap and Jaime still got like one person from Robb.
Hercule is actually really REALLY strong for a human. He is just surrounded by the Z Fighters and their enemies who are planet up to universe busters. Hercule could probably beat Robert, Dayne, Gregor and Barristan at the same time.
I listened to 34 minutes and 20 seconds of this and it only left me wondering who can beat stannis in a 1 v1...robert was a monster, no doubt,, but imagine his little brother who had to contend and train with him...hes got to be an absolute beast
Yall Remember When Robert Was Hiding In A Whore House When My Dawg Jon Con Was Kicking Down Doors & Jumping Roof 2 Roof Like He Was The Batman of The Seven Kingdoms?
Stannis is a renowned warrior but he does not love battle and prefers to command from the rear. Robert is a renowned warrior who loves battle and prefers to lead from the Front. I love Stannis but Robert murks him in a duel. In an all out battle? I go with the Mannis all day. He defeated Victarion Greyjoy and the Iron Fleet in their own element at SEA on their HOME TURF! Stannis does not get the credit he truly deserves for that feat
Jami was brought into the Kingsguard because Areys wanted to keep Tywin as an ally and was low key holding Jami hostage by making him swear the Kingsguard oath
Before those in the comments try to throw in the argument of "Rhaegar almost killed him", try to think of these first. 1, Robert caught up to Ned only a few days in King Landing. In time for Tywin to present him what he did to Elia Martel. So his injuries only kept him from long distance travel. And no matter how slight an injury can be, excessive activities would worsen it. 2. He was conscious enough to send his master to heal Barristan Selmy before himself, and he even sassed Roose Bolton while doing that. So clearly he didn't faint from blood loss. 3, He still strong enough to lift his heavy ass hammer and swung it into Rhaegar chest. To remind you that Ned could barely lift it with both hands. So whatever the extend of Rhaegar "almost killed", he didn't do much to his motor function (tendon, bone join, or even blood loss) injuries that adrenaline wouldn't magically heal you, nor it could help you lift any heavy object and swing it with great dexterity. 4, He was dubbed "the Demon of the Trident". You don't get monikers like that if you only killed one guy, and least of all almost killed by that one guy. So it opens up the possibilities that the injuries he sustain could have came from the Targaryen Loyalists that he slew on his way to Rhaegar, and even after that. Robert likely got that nickname because his kill counts in that battle was racking up, and Rhaegar had to leave the safety of his army's rear and intervened, and failed, thus dooming his army with his own death.
I reckon Rhaegar taunted Robert by saying 'Lyanna ran away from you, she came to me and became my wife.' In his rage and adrenaline caved Rhaegar's armour
The sword of the morning isn't just the best sword fighter in house dayne. They also have to be good enough to be worthy of the sword itself. That's why there hasn't been a sword of the morning since Arthur Dayne.
I’m always thinking what will be the destiny of the Boltons in the books. I was thinking and realize that their house before Roose took Walda to the pound school was about to be vanished because just have one left and by the time Ramsay was a bastard and even his father hated him.
We all know what George was doing when he wrote the book just look at Harry Potter the biggest example are the goblins like we know what these writer's are saying when they make the bankers lol
The thing about Robert, is that unlike the idiot that the Mountain is, Robert in his prime used his height and weight to his advantage and fought wimps like Rhaegar or any other opponent with warhammer. Warhammer against a sword is almost always a guarantee win because it SMASHES plate armor. And Robert in his prime... GODS he was STRONG then. And quick as well. In a single combat in order for the opponent with a sword to beat an armored war hammer wielder, the difference in skill must be wider than Ned's bussy. And in my humble opinion, not even Dayne or Selmy have that wide of a gap between them and Robert in skill. Sure, Bobby B with a sword loses to them. Bobby B without armor has more chnaces to lose. But Bobby B with armor and War hammer? Demon of the Trident takes it. All day, every day. PS. Hate to be that "akshually" guy, i'll kms after i type the comment, but Martin said that Dayne and Selmy are equal, and Arthur has a slight edge with "Dawn".
I don't think Warhammers are as effective in ASOIAF as they are IRL. 95% of Noble fighters in ASOIAF use a sword, and swords seem to be capable of cutting through armor in ASOIAF, Barristan killed Maelys the monstrous, who was probably well armored, as well as cutting through several of his men to get to him, Jaime kills several of Robb's bodyguards in the Whispering wood, many of whom were from Noble families, namely the Karstarks, and thus could afford good armor. And another thing I'd like to add, is that most top-tier swordsmen like Jaime, Arthur, and Barristan most likely have lots of experience in fighting opponents who wield more blunt weapons as they have all fought in major wars, and the vast-majority of Westerosi armies are made up of peasants who usually use spears or more blunt weapons, as it takes much more training to become proficient with a sword than with a spear or blunt weapon. (Also, I don't think the Mountain's really an idiot, he's quite regularly given men to command during battles, and is invited to Tywin's war council during the battle of the Greenfork.)
I am not arguing that ASOIAF in universe logic and IRL are completely different. However, even if swords in ASOIAF cut plate armour with great effectiveness, i DON'T believe war hammers would be any less effective, especially, after how Rhaegar was described after they battled. Robert literally caved his chest in. And what i meant about the Mountain calling him dumb, is that Mountain could have been more effective and deadly if he was using Robert's hammer. You are probably right, and in George's mind, Dayne/Selmy/Jaime probably beat him, but my headcanon tells me otherwise.
Warhammers aren't auto win vs plate, sure they are highly effective, but they are slow clunky weapons, with low range, while robert could one shot any man in this competition outside of the mountain, that one shot being landed is far from guaranteed, and more importantly, The mountain isn't some idiot, he's by no means a genius, but he's not some mentally handicapped man with anger issues, he is a fully trained knight with all the skill of any knight, he just had a the strength of an 8ft tall superhuman, while robert has the strength of a 6 and a half ft tall superhuman, and isn't trained as a knight, Robert may well be less skilled at arms then the mountain even in his prime, and him being a full foot and a half shorter, he's no doubt substantially weaker then him as well.
@@Nion-p6s Do we know what weapon Maelys used? if he also used a sword then it doesn't really demonstrate that swords are more effective against armor. While Jaime does kill several armored men, they are also significantly less skilled than him and he was armored as well iirc. As for experience, Jaime was said to fight in a lot of things like tournaments where blunt weapons were probably less common than actual battle. Jaime, Barristan, and Arthur are so skilled they could cut through unarmed peasants with hammers with ease, doesn't mean we know they specifically had a lot of training against skilled armored hammer users. Robert as well would be familiar fighting against swords.
Arthur Dayne - hear me out. We don’t yet know the full scope of GRRM’s world yet, but traveling down some of the more esoteric possible rabbit holes online ties Dawn and The Sword of the Morning back to the beginning of Westeros and the first long night. Dawn was allegedly forged from a comet by a god. I know we haven’t seen shit about Arthur Dayne that explains why he was so highly thought of, hopefully if GRRM ever finishes the series, we’ll know. Not only do you have to be an incredible fighter but also have the character of a good and fair man to wield Dawn. Through his alleged Targaryen lineage and Dayne as well if that’s the case, Jon Snow may become the next Sword of the Morning during the next Long Night.
Cool theory. Dawn is so badass in lore I would be totally fine with it coming into play in a significant way, although I doubt Jon would have it considering his own blade is so significant narratively. Wish they had portrayed Dawn correctly in the show
Rhaegar v Robert was an hour long fight in the books that ended in Robert being so injured he couldn’t go to the tower of Joy. If we’re going by that as a determiner, I reckon Prime Jaime Barriston and Dayne are all supposed to be a shade more skilled and Jaime stronger and faster than most. Daemon Targaryen, Aemon Dragonknight and that bloke who bodyguarded for Rhaenera’s children are also shouts from Asoiaf history. Robert is a UNIT tho so could vary
I think Jaime would get a couple good hits in and put up a decent fight but the pure strength of Robert and his war hammer would dull Jaime’s sword/break it. While Jaime I think could cut Robert, Robert would break ribs each hit, shatter his legs, and crush his arms.
I don’t think anyone beat Robert 1v1. Strong as the mountain, fast enough for his size to go blow for blow with Rhagaer ( trained by Dayne and Selmy and noted to be close to their tier) while fatigued, used a 100 lbs battle hammer 1 handed. The lore implications make Robert arguably the best warrior in the series. The best swordsman doesn’t always make the best fighter
George never calls Rhaenyra queen but always refers to Aegon II as king and Helaena as Queen. He also has Rhaenyra's dragon kill her bastard son as the only thing it does in the entire war. What did George mean by this?

Finally. A fighters video. Do who could beat Oberyn. That should provide some comedy.

13:10 the statement that I know is that without dayne is Equal. With dayne is more in favour of the sword of the morning
GRRM has stated that Barristan and Arthur are pretty evenly matched and would draw most likely, but if Arthur has Dawn, he's gonna eventually get Barristan.

Absolutely hilarious as usual, what about my boy belwas or Timitt son of timitt?
Ned might stand a chance if he stopped being Robert's malewife for like 10 seconds
Do you not remember when Robert himself said only a fool would meet a a Dothraki hoard in battle
That’s just the context of battle, not 1v1.

Biggest Jaime feat imo, is the Whispering wood. Jaime was almost singlehandedly cutting his way through Robbs best men and was stopped by sword getting caught on a spine. It was a perfect trap and Jaime still got like one person from Robb.
The Iron Throne was the only one to beat Prime Robert, and it took a while.

What about a brotherly brawl with Stannis?
And only Stannis, no one cares about Renly. He can't even fight anyway.
Stannis is a renowned warrior but he does not love battle and prefers to command from the rear. Robert is a renowned warrior who loves battle and prefers to lead from the Front. Aint nobody beating Bobby B, The DEMON of the Trident in his prime
Prince Duncan names baristan the bold after he attempted to joust at 13 as a mystery knight.
I heard that the iron bank has been digging tunnels underneath Kings Landing
War hammer against plate is so good. Swords have to work.
Who is the better swordsman Luke Skywalker to Jaime Lannister?
If Robert's heavily drinking; a sober Crakehall.
The breast plate stretcher is his one weakness.
I think its important to consider weaponry and plate mail, considering robert uses a hammer while people like dayne, barristan, and jaime use swords.
I agree but fantasy plate is as useful as paper 😂
The sword of the morning isn't just the best sword fighter in house dayne. They also have to be good enough to be worthy of the sword itself. That's why there hasn't been a sword of the morning since Arthur Dayne.
When you guys brought up Jaime vs the mad king i just think of him as Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat 1
I’m always thinking what will be the destiny of the Boltons in the books. I was thinking and realize that their house before Roose took Walda to the pound school was about to be vanished because just have one left and by the time Ramsay was a bastard and even his father hated him.
Sandoq the shadow mentioned, neuron activated.
We all know what George was doing when he wrote the book just look at Harry Potter the biggest example are the goblins like we know what these writer's are saying when they make the bankers lol
10:38 Say that again???
I'd also add in Daemon Blackfyre if you wanna go into the lore, especially if he hold Blackfyre. I mean he was the Warrior incarnate
What ye talking about a quick dodge from Roberts hammer and boom sword through the neck 😅😅😅😅

Craster could best him for sure
Craster only needs some time to waken the one eyed snake and no one is safe anymore 😂

Did the mad king fight Jamie with just his nails? If so who would win if he had a sword?
So when's the star wars and lotr videos coming out? That would be awesome
Nobody in the seven hells. Damn you Ned!
I think Jaime would get a couple good hits in and put up a decent fight but the pure strength of Robert and his war hammer would dull Jaime’s sword/break it. While Jaime I think could cut Robert, Robert would break ribs each hit, shatter his legs, and crush his arms.
Hey guys, could you make a video about how Bowana Marris though Mance couldn't take Castle Black and he ended up taking ALL THREE manned castles
