Bought a new 2024 4Runner off road premium in underground for $45,200 - $5,000 under MSRP. I feel like I got a deal and plan to keep it a very long time.
Traded my 2019 TRD Off Road Premium KDSS unit and purchased a 2024 TRD Pro Underground at MSRP a week ago. Best thing about this purchase was that I only lost $2,900 on the 2019 TRD Off Road from what I purchased it for back in 2019. Great resale. The dealer is actually selling it for more than I originally purchased it for. Love the Pro, the ride is amazing and I wanted the last year of the 5th gen. She was built June 28th and arrived at the dealership on Sept 5th. Stoked
I own a 2006 Toyota 4Runner Limited V8 4WD purchased new in 2006 currently with 57K+ miles... it's unmodified except for the tires which I replaced with Geolander A/T G015 which made a huge difference (from the original H/T tires) in both rain and especially snow!! This is the fourth 4Runner I've owned (an '86, '88, and '94) and imho it's perfect... acceleration is not only outstanding but the V8 and its excellent transmission makes it SO smooth to pass, reach the necessary speed to merge into a busy interstate, or climb a long interstate hill without slowing down... a little known feature is the ability to plug your iPhone into the jack (3.2 mm) inside the armrest on the lower right and all Apple music and podcast's can be played through the incredible JBL Limited sound system. There's is no backup camera so I have to drive with care using my mirrors and caution and no lane assist, etc... I basically, have to drive my 4Runner using my brain. Would I like a back-up camera added to my 4Runner?? idk, maybe... I really like the 6-disc changer that's there... going on a long trip I can check an audio book out from the library (for free) and load it up, drive away, and listen to a compelling story making the whole trip go so fast... a 4Runner is a great purchase (I don't get any money for saying this)... my comment is based solely on my experience to date...

Last month (August) bought a 2024 Limited because I did not want the redesigned electrified 2025 4Runner. I love it with off road capabilities! Reliability was very important for my choice when buying this ride,.
I bought a 4 Runner recently but traded it in. Getting on the highway with it was scary, it just has no power at all and literally almost got run off the road by truck drivers. I'm sure it's a great vehicle and will last a long time but I need something with more power. I should've taken it on the highway when I took the test drive instead of just around town. Another thing that drove me crazy was the shimmy I had when I got up to around 60 to 70 mph. I brought it back to the dealers but the shimmy was still there.
I saw an article that pitted 8 cyl 4 Runner against the 6 and in a race the 8 won by 1/10 of a second. Care care nut recommends the 6 because 8 had a timing belt and other issues.
A while ago, I upgraded from a 2017 5th gen to a 2022 ORP. I've been busy upgrading it eversince. The truck is just that good and worth every penny. For me KDSS was a must, especially since my previous TRD Pro lacked this feature. Everything else I upgraded to TRD Pro spects. The lack of KDSS with the 6th gen is a deal killer for me. The crappy powertrain and cheap looking interior leaves little to desire.
I was at my local Toyota lot this week sat in the new Land cruiser, tundra, and Sequoia. I'm just not a fan of all the new nanny controls and fanciness inside. My tundra and I were out getting dirty this weekend mountain biking that's what a truck is for not to looking fancy, I guess I'm just not the buyer for the Toyota's new vision is looking for, they want more of the fake outdoors person

Great reasons…I just can’t justify modern day prices with 15 year old Tech and design. 15 years of 4Runner is ubiquitous…everyone and their grandmas have one.
Since he mentioned it, from what complaints & data I could gather from Landcruiser forum pages, all of these transmission failures are directly related to people overloading when towing, & driving 70 mph everywhere they go. Not gonna defend Toyota's drop in quality, but don't be a moron with a new car. Drive it normal, use eco mode to maximize fuel economy, don't overload for towing. And who gets a midsize vehicle to tow anyway?! Wanna tow shit? GET A DIESEL TRUCK!
i have been trying to find a new trd pro at this time but no car dealers have them available or expect any of them soon. I guess a TRD offroad Premium has to do it :) thanks for the video
As always appreciate the summary...agree with your position...quality is decreasing, complexity is increasing and prices (aka value) is not where it needs to be. I think Toyota will struggle in the next couple of years unless they shift their mindset.
@Untamed my 2024 TRD ORP in Underground is due by the end of the month. The wait is killing me. I am gifting it to my wife and hope she will able to drive it for 25 years. Thanks for all your do.
Would it have been too difficult for Toyota to introduce change gradually? I wished I had just stomached the payments on a 4Runner instead of buying the RAV4. All these changes with zero fallback options make returning to Ford a little more tempting. We can say that "time will tell" all day, but I still look at those Tundras left on lots as a prime example of what will soon happen to everything else. I enjoy your content, Untamed! Great info all day long!
I worked for a major car manufacturer for over 17 years, and I can tell you anytime a NEW MODEL comes out there WILL be problems because ALL the processes have changed, and you have less than one minute to do your job, so it takes at least one year for it to start to settle in on how the processes go and the workers REALLY start knowing how to perform their process and they follow the operational standards per operational manual. I purchased a 2023 SR5 4 RUNNER do all the maintenance, RED for ROLL TIDE!!

@@JattAnmoli That was the MSRP and no dealer fee or add ons. The CDN cars come with the rock crawlers as well. That price includes all delivery and dealer fees but not taxes...13% in Ontario. I dealt with Erin Mills Toyota.
@@rachelgreen1368 Those are very nice cars but a tad of a headache once they are out of warranty. I have a Merc and 3 911's and am well aware of what cars cost. The 4 Runner is worth every penny and is, at that price, a bargain.
Nissan is making a come back in this game, with the frontier , path finder and rumored Xterra return. All naturally aspirated motors. I would 100% buy them over any of the models Toyota is offering right now. I’ve been suspicious about Nissan but the friends I know that got them are truly enjoying them and haven’t had many issues besides some minor recalls. This is why I’m not a brand loyal type of person.
Much better power and gas mileage on the 4 cylinder turbo engine compared to my old V6 model 4Runner, I’m sure I’ll get high mileage on my turbo Ive been using turbo engines at my job for years and most easily get over 300 thousand miles My old v6 struggles up hills and and 4 banger turbo goes up without a struggle
Inflation is killing everything. I saw a 2024 4Runner SR5 for 52k just 3 days ago. I paid 40k back in 2017 for an Off-road Premium with KDSS, moonroof, and sliding rear cargo tray. Piano black trim on the 25’s will immediately get pinstriped. Not sure what they were thinking.
Historically Toyota is known for its Kaizan philosophy; which served them well. IMO, they did not practice that philosophy when going from Gen 5 to Gen 6 4 Runners resulting in questionable quality products.
Put me on the bandwagon, bought a 2024 4Runner, and I think people are getting decent prices because the dealers nationwide are in a must sell position after all the bad press on their turbo trucks and with lots full.
9/18/24 - Your vid is excellent 1. Highlight the exorbitant cost 2. Turbo No Way for Now 3. Quality lackluster Yea … No thanks to 2025 4Runner Bring back the undisputed quality 2000 - 2004 I’ll wait til 2030-40 Maybe just then Toyota will get it righ Once again
It's been delayed till next year, we don't know how they are going to price it. More likely below the Land Cruiser especially if the Tacoma is not selling well.
Some people need the latest and greatest, and good for them. I’ve done the early adopter thing a few times, but not with a car or truck. Dad always said to give the new model year some time to work things out, then make a decision. Dad also said the moon wasn’t real and elves were running the world. 😵💫. Good vid. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
Even with better gas mileage the 2025 may never even pay off the price difference, no less the depreciation and worry factor about transmission issues. I was looking at the new Taco's and 4Runners but for the kind of money they want, I'm now looking at totally restored early 70's Bronco's - way more cool factor and will likely hold value or increase! Plus I can get parts and work on it myself!
Quite honestly I wish they would build one like they did in the 90s. Noneof the electronic bullcrap. Give me knobs and sliders for radio and heater. Screens are far more dangerous to look at when driving and trying to adjust your heat/defrost, radio, etc. Less emission garbage to screw up the engine. And when electronics go out look at the cost of repair. Technology is not necessarily a good thing. All it does is run the price up.
I got the SR5 2023 with 6 miles on it. did my own TRD upgrades skid plate cold air intake air filter oil cap radiator cap shifter knob next is wheels also put 10 ply E rated tires power stop Z36 tow package and I still don't have 50 grand in it not with taxes, fees, tags and upgrades and putting bilstein 1.5 in lift rear springs for hauling a camper and giving it less squat
Got a 2015 4Runner TRD pro in 2018 with 34K miles on it. I’ve lifted it, added a roof rack, bigger tires, and I really enjoy the thing. 85K miles on it now, I’m just wondering realistically how many years I can get out of it. I put about 8K miles a year on it. If it goes over 200K miles, that’s still over a dozen years away.
Got a 2023 base TRD OffRoad 4runner with KDSS brand new in 2022 for 46k out the door. Didnt like all the bells and whistles from the premium and love the cloth. I feel i got a good value but i drive 1900 miles a month and want to see it at 300k.
Bought a new 2024 here in GA for $47,200 off road premium Barcelona red- $4300 under with TRD wheels sunroof and premium service package. I searched nation wide for 8 months and love this thing!
People are mistakenly thinking that the 2025 4Runner is going to get significantly improved MPG. Think again. The 4 cylinder Turbo is not about improved MPG. It has to do with meeting mandated emission standards. I traded in a 2023 Subaru Outback for my 2024 SR5 2 WD. The Outback was averaging 19 MPG in city only driving. My 4Runner is averaging about the same.
Will drive my fifth GEN to the wheels fall off, I don’t think they’re going to fall off. Lol. I looked at the new Land Cruiser this weekend, if I was going to buy something, it would probably be the GX 550
Lol, even before the 2025 arrival, my 2023 Pro appraisal has been creeping up slowly despite me putting on more miles. I think a lot of 5th gen owner gonna be hoarding their V6 4Runners just like those who got the 2nd gen Tundra hoarding their V8
Most aren't "buying" them, they are taking on debt and the bank owns that 4runner....... just wait about a year, a lot of people will get tired of the $800 payments and bad gas mileage....they'll end up back on the lots, then I'll buy it.

I like the 5th generation, I had a 2021 4Runner Limited. Very nice vehicle but the 16 mpg city was hard to live with plus the slow 5 speed transmission. I agree not to buy the first year of a redesigned model. Let them work out the problems and wait for the 2026 or 2027.
The additional features in the 2025 would be the reason why I would buy the 2024. The 2024 model already has more features than I’d ever need and I much prefer simpler vehicles.
@anthonys5581 nuh uh just admit you are broke the exterior outdated interior outdated very small screen can't even see navigation properly. 10inch should be minimum 7 qnd 8i ch screens are too small. Overpriced and no blind spot monitor standard which would be in 2025. It will be the wprde decision ever to buy a 2024 when 2025 are around the corner.
I don’t care if the exterior or interior is outdated. I actually prefer the look of the 2024 version. I don’t want a big screen in my car. The smaller screens are great and I can see the navigation just fine. If you can’t “see the navigation properly” on the smaller screens, your eyes probably aren’t good enough to safely drive in the first place. Maybe get glasses? I don’t want blind spot monitoring either. It’s unnecessary and annoying technology for people that actually know how to drive. I don’t want a stressed out turbo 4 cylinder either. I’d prefer a naturally aspirated engine in a vehicle I intend to keep for many years. They are more simple, reliable, and cost less to maintain long-term. I can afford both, I’m just choosing the vehicle I think is better.
@anthonys5581 bla bla my eyes are perfectly fine I have perfect vision. The 2025 is better. People who are not normal will choose the 2024 over 2025. Bigger screens are better. Cry me a river. Keep crying about reliability..
I bought a 2023 TRD Pro 4R in Solar Octane in June. It's not like me to buy a bright orange vehicle but the 4Runner looks so good in that color. I've driven German SUV's for a long time and they make great cars, but the problems start stacking up around 50k miles. I'm sick of it. I guess now that I'm older I'm ready to just have a car for years that I can count on. It's got Apple car play and a/c, and it goes anywhere. What more do you need?

2024 TRD PRO here 🎉 purchased in May because, yes.
Nice! Good call. You won’t ever regret that purchase! 👌
No. They just want over all better everything .
Toyota has made way too many drastic changes to multiple vehicles in such a small timeframe. Hope they can dig themselves out of this rut!

Best post here.

Still enjoying my 2022 4Runner Limited!

Much better power and gas mileage on the 4 cylinder turbo engine compared to my old V6 model 4Runner, I’m sure I’ll get high mileage on my turbo
Ive been using turbo engines at my job for years and most easily get over 300 thousand miles
My old v6 struggles up hills and and 4 banger turbo goes up without a struggle
Inflation is killing everything. I saw a 2024 4Runner SR5 for 52k just 3 days ago. I paid 40k back in 2017 for an Off-road Premium with KDSS, moonroof, and sliding rear cargo tray.

Historically Toyota is known for its Kaizan philosophy; which served them well. IMO, they did not practice that philosophy when going from Gen 5 to Gen 6 4 Runners resulting in questionable quality products.
That’s a fact 💯
Seems the last couple years they haven’t been practicing it.

It's been delayed till next year, we don't know how they are going to price it. More likely below the Land Cruiser especially if the Tacoma is not selling well.
Completely agree! Did you get tint installed? What did/are you going with for the sides and windshield?
I did. I only went with 30% on the driver and passenger windows. Nothing else. 👍
I got the SR5 2023 with 6 miles on it.
did my own TRD upgrades
skid plate
cold air intake
air filter
oil cap
radiator cap
shifter knob
next is wheels
also put 10 ply E rated tires
power stop Z36 tow package
and I still don't have 50 grand in it not with taxes, fees, tags and upgrades
and putting bilstein 1.5 in lift rear springs for hauling a camper and giving it less squat
In my area, can't barely find a new 2024 and even all the 2023-2024 used ones cost more than MSRP prices 🤯...

Toyota like other car manufacturers prioritized good looks and use of cheap materials.Sign of the times,
The bad thing with all of this is, 2024s are to come by. Especially depending on what region you live in.
So you talk about the four-cylinder engine but what about the V6? is that having any issues?
Is the new 4Runner a hybrid? Then it will be cheaper in the long run.
Lol, even before the 2025 arrival, my 2023 Pro appraisal has been creeping up slowly despite me putting on more miles. I think a lot of 5th gen owner gonna be hoarding their V6 4Runners just like those who got the 2nd gen Tundra hoarding their V8
I agree. The 4.0L V6 will be a coveted powertrain for quite some time. 👌

Definitely buy the 2024 Toyota 4-runner. Don’t buy the 2025
Just admit you are jealous and broke. The 2025 is better has a better look, more features.
