I think the 3rd gen was the sweet spot of 4 Runners, especially with the 3.4 with a TRD supercharger. I’ve owned mine for 28 years and it’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Just short of 360k km, I’ve never added a drop of oil between changes. I’m fortunate the live in a location where there isn’t much snow, so it is pretty much rust free. Dimensionally, it is quite a bit smaller than the current gen but the interior is well packaged so it’s not short on leg or cargo room. I have an FJ Cruiser since I was 16 (14 years now), have had two 5th gen 4Runners over the past 12 years, and just love that platform and 4.0 engine soo much, so I was sad when the Tacoma unveiled, because I was unimpressed and sadly knew that was also the 6th gen 4Runner. I have spent half my life using that platform and beautiful 4.0 engine. I now own a GX 550, but feel like I Toyota manipulated 5th gen 4Runner owners like me to want to buy it, if we wanted a decent engine. That 4 cylinder turbo with powering anything on the heavy TNGA platform is unacceptable. Today I was in the base model Land Cruiser and was disgusted at cheap and stripped down interior is, based on that price. The Taco and 6th gen 4Runner has shock mounted bumpstops in the front. A choice fitting for cars.. Not 4x4s.... I am VERY disappointed with Toyota and won't have my GX 550 for very long.... Time for my first American 4x4!
I just said goodbye to my 21' tacoma, it was bittersweet. It was a horrible truck, had no space and less payload capacity than my Mazda Cx5. I've grown to like it but after driving an F150, I was like Tacoma who?. My taco had that engine knocking at a certain RPM which apparently is normal per toyota but it was annoying anyway.
You’re investing your hard earned money towards your future, not a depreciating asset. Wise decision. Car payments, maintenance insurance all add up. By yourself and older Toyota and you’ll love it!
Untamed, you'll be okay! I would say henceforward, if looking at another 4Runner at some point don't get too hung up on getting the ultimate models (trims) such as TRD Pro..... get a less sought after "regular" model and build it up at least modestly so it is more capable. Better wheels / tires will do wonders, as you have shown...even on a more modest trim in the same last gen 4Runner, and maybe get lucky with a third row. I wouldn't get carried away, $ wise on add-on improvements - certainly not all at once, but enough to make you excited. Maybe call such a project TRD Pro-lite, and take joy in having essentially a 90-95% Pro for much less (even with some add-on toys)...and maybe a 3rd row like was available on Limiteds and SR5s. In short, the insistence on everyone's coveted darling Pro is a killer $ and family hauler-wise, IMO.

I’m totally with you! We have a 2018 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium with the third row and a perfect build, 2018 Toyota Highlander Limited Platinum, and a 2008 Toyota Tundra TRD Off Road with a tasteful build as well. I love all three vehicles, I’m not feeling any of the new generation Toyotas.
Yeah I didn’t have any complaints -especially for how close they were to where we live and how quick they were willing to buy it. Win win. Could I have scratched 2-3K more out of it? Sure. What the ease of this experience made it worth it to me.
I totally understand my friend. I traded in my 24 4Runner TRD Pro for a Ineos Grenadier and now hoping it wasn’t a mistake. Mine had 13k miles on it and they gave me $55k (paid $57k). But I will say the Grenadier is amazing driving experience👍
I love the Grenadier, but if we’re talking long term dependability and parts, it is obviously a mistake. There is no comparison with a 15 year old platform with even older mechanicals. The Grenadier is more like a niche vehicle that is still unproven. Nice truck though. I wish i could afford one as a toy. I am content with my 24 4Runner. Exact model that untamed just sold.
Ditto on almost everything you said. I only disagree with you referring to yourself as an idiot. You’re no idiot. My prayers for you and your family on the new venture. Can’t wait to hear about it on here. Btw … 172 miles where you reside is what, a couple of trips to the supermarket? And that’s a compliment. 😊
At 8 months into my 24 Tacoma Trd Sport premium Tacoma.....no issues none nada zero. And it blows away my former 3rd gen in both performance and comfort.
2021 4runner Nightshade. Im gonna give this car to my first born child. It is perfect and I believe that the limited is the best trim when you add AT tires to it. Rides better and looks better.
I wouldn't feel too bad about selling your 4runner that color scratches easy and is more prone to accidents at night from other drivers that can't see you very well.
Micky, Have you ever thought about doing some research on the vehicle market in 2008-2010? It seems like the economy and the vehicle market was in a similar position. From my memory, Toyota had difficult years in 2008 and 2009 and you could pick their trucks/SUVs up fairly cheap. To compensate they made a lot less vehicles in 2009 (reason you see very few in the resale market) to get rid of their 2008 vehicles.
The new 4runner is so beautiful but I feel like I would have the same regrets and currently have a 2017 TRD off-road with 36,000 miles so I feel like I’ll have this forerunner forever
Relax friend, Good Car Bad Car advises Toyota sold 1,282,385 2010-2024 4Runners through the October 2024 sales reports (US sales only.) mebbe it will hit 1.3 million as the last ones roll off the boat through the sold gates all in. With 1.3 million on the road, a 5th Gen 4Runner will be available when you want one again. But less likely to be new. I bought one of the October 2024 reported sales of the now classic 5 Gens with only 3 mi on the OD. I like it, I like it alot. Big Grin.
You definitely are an old soul cause I feel the same way! There’s nothing like the big motors , the proven power train that’s been the staple for Toyota… the land cruiser not having a massive v8 , not being able to hear that thing roar when you merge on the highway , the 4 runner not having that v6 , mean yes everyone heading toward small displacement , turbos , etc but it’s what made Toyota the best! Not everyone’s gonna be able to afford a 70k plus mark up on the new vehicles , at that point there’s plenty of options like the Lexus gx550! Best of wishes on your new endeavor , I’m sure everything will work out in your favor 🫡🤙
I live a few miles from Pedersen, stopped by there a few weeks ago. Have always loved your 4Runner, maybe I'll visit them to see if it's still on the lot

I felt the same way, until I rented a new 2024 Tacoma. I am very impressed with turbo engine and its built like a brick shithouse. It drives very well planted, and I love the new 2nd gen Toyota Safety Sense (self driving). I was going to buy the last year 2024 4Runner model, BUT, I'm really looking forward to the new 4Runners, with turbo engine, ventilated bolstered seats, and built even better. I wish they kept the front fang lights.
I have wanted.a 4runner for awhile just not crazy either about some of the changes. I do have a 5.7L 2020 trd pro which i picked up just before Coivd in 2020 wirh some extras on it. I thought paying 45k plus ttl was crazy at the time. Now , I'm super happy. Barely 33k miles on it. Same original tires which i plan to change out soon. And will hopefully pay off with the n3xt 2 months. (Wife has the camry xse hybrid) I want another vehicle I was thinking Sequoia or lexus gx 550. They are ablut the same price. We will see.
The mistake is locking up so much of your liquid net worth in these vehicles. I mean big picture, it’s only ~$90k for these two sold trucks. Shouldn’t be a big proportion of the money you have available such that you need to react and sell the toys immediately
@@Yoyomanmanholla yeah I don’t disagree but to be fair I didn’t think this opportunity would arise like it did… investing in vehicles as always shown a positive correlation to how much I earn on TH-cam making content with them.
What scares me is how many new Tacomas and Tundras I’m seeing around me for sale on used lots. Many of them have less than 15K miles on them. Obviously a lot of buyers remorse out there
@ which is why a 200 series will likely enter the scene again soon. With that said, I don’t fear the sequoia breaking down. If it does, I’ll get another family hauler as a rental as it’s being fixed by Toyota.
I share your sadness, as our brand new 2024 TRD Pro was just totaled 2 days ago. A man made a L turn just in front of us on a state HW and I struck his rear passenger panel at about 40 mph. lol 😆 my ownership videos have been the least viewed videos for quite some time. I only make them because it’s fun for me… growing my channel stems from my car market analysis content.
I empathize with your mixed feelings about having sold two classic Toyota vehicles. But at the end of the day, a good business opportunity trumps the cars. For years I drove used cars (Toyotas) while I was working with the idea I would get a couple of nice vehicles when I retired. Now I miss the used Toyotas I had as they were reliable and reasonably priced and affordable to maintain and for insurance and dmv fees...I was just as happy. Don't look back. Cars will become available at the right time.
Why would you sell? Never mind, I see personal business reasons drove the decision. I guess you have to do what you have to do. Wish I could have bought it.
Bro relax. There are so many used ones for sale. Plus the TRD OFF-Road 4Runner with KDSS is better than the TRD PRO by far. I've had several of both and KDSS rides/handles way better than the body roll that comes with every 4R that doesn't have KDSS. Also, what's the business venture?

I’m totally with you! We have a 2018 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium with the third row and a perfect build, 2018 Toyota Highlander Limited Platinum, and a 2008 Toyota Tundra TRD Off Road with a tasteful build as well. I love all three vehicles, I’m not feeling any of the new generation Toyotas.
You’re a smart guy untamed! Once your new business is flourishing you’ll be back to getting another new vehicle! And I can’t wait to see what it is!
@@WesternRAM thanks brother… I always appreciate seeing your positive, supportive comments. Thanks man. 🙏
@ You’re welcome! 🤗
I just paid $54,500 out the door for a brand new, completely loaded plus accessories 2024 TRD Pro 4Runner a month ago. You got a great price for it!
Seems like a great price considering the markup the dealer needs to have to sell it again. Always entertaining Untamed.
Yeah I didn’t have any complaints -especially for how close they were to where we live and how quick they were willing to buy it. Win win. Could I have scratched 2-3K more out of it? Sure. What the ease of this experience made it worth it to me.
Vehicles are depreciating assets, you made the correct decision Bro
I do wonder what the next fleet will be. I’m almost willing to let my Mazda Cx-50 go and get a like a 2014 4Runner. Or a 4th Gen… hmmm
This hurts. Cant imagine selling one of those never mind both in a matter of days. Yikes bud.
Yeah this one pains me… been in a strange mood all day today. =\
@@UntamedMotors .. couple days it's history, but those were tremendous vehicles to part with, but you know that already.
I'm sorry! CONGRATS on New business!
Can’t wait to learn more about your business venture and see what you get to replace your vehicles.
Thanks Dave! I hope to have some resolution with the company by end of this week.
What is the speed limit there? Looks like you are doing 90???
I wouldn't feel too bad about selling your 4runner that color scratches easy and is more prone to accidents at night from other drivers that can't see you very well.
agree
Lol ok
Wish I could have been in a position to buy this.
It's okay to be sad after making the right decision....
Thanks man… definitely been in a strange mood today.
I can imagining selling my 23 4runner trd pro, but you got it do what you got it do, best luck untamed.
They can DREAM all they want over the outrageous prices UM, its what the market can bare. 😊
I love that new LC 250. Drives like an absolute dream.
Big Grin.
What are you replacing it with? I assume you'll still need a vehicle to get to and from work and haul the family around?
He already has a Sequoia to haul his family. Wife and four kids.
Sold my 2016 Tundra SR5 last week, it sucked. Loved that truck man…
4 runners can last for 40 years I'm glad they are all built in Japan. I would not have sold mine and I would not have regrets. I'm still driving my 2003 245,000 miles on mine
What color is that?
What did they offer you? I have a 24’ model pro with wescott lift
I had a 59K private party offer but decided to sell to local dealer for sake of ease and less logistics. $57,250.
Hi. What websites do you recommend for selling cars?
That color is the best too
Dumped my 4runner for a rav4. Runner was a beast and loved it, but back and forth to work 95% time, the runner was overkill. No regrets
Nothing but eye rolls for this guys videos anymore. Such a long time ago it seems when this channel was just a fun, enthusiast channel. I truly miss those days
Sorry you feel that way. No need to keep watching. 👍
Damn 2 big decisions to sell 2 beautiful cars. Hope the business venture works out.
Only thing I don't like is the non functional hood scoop. Other than that it's gold
It’s a truck , relax
You just don't understand dufus
On sale for $64,990 right now. Very nice car.
Hope you are doing ok... 😬
(Wife has the camry xse hybrid)
I want another vehicle
I was thinking Sequoia or lexus gx 550.
Obviously a lot of buyers remorse out there
Why didn’t you just sell your new generation vehicles and kept the old generation if they are so bad?
The sequoia actually fits my family, these others ones don’t. Need a family hauler. 🤷♂️
Good question.........and if a family rig is important then dependability should be a major factor........as much as size.
@ which is why a 200 series will likely enter the scene again soon. With that said, I don’t fear the sequoia breaking down. If it does, I’ll get another family hauler as a rental as it’s being fixed by Toyota.
@@fredsausage8794 definitely
@@UntamedMotors the 2024 4runner is a family Hauler
I share your sadness, as our brand new 2024 TRD Pro was just totaled 2 days ago. A man made a L turn just in front of us on a state HW and I struck his rear passenger panel at about 40 mph. His ‘04 Suburban rolled over onto its roof. All of us walked away with only air bag injuries, thanks be to the Lord. But we are sick. His insurance info turned out to be bogus.
Man, sad watching this video. It would kill me if I had to sell mine.
@@Nexgeninfi it’s still killing me… 😔
I'm still planning to keep my 3rd and 5th gen 4Runners. 👍
So, why did you sell it?? Almost new.
What'd you do with the morimoto tail lights? I'd buy them if you have them! The headlights you ordered too. I have a 2024 Terra 4Runner.
Are you local to WY or CO?
@ unfortunately no. CA.
@ ah okay. I’m going to try an sell locally before I decide to ship em off. I’ll keep you in mind if I can’t move them locally first. Thanks.
@@UntamedMotors please do. thank you, sir!
Good luck in your future endeavors! Vehicles come and go. You'll get back into a clean '21 tundra and '24 4Runner again one day and it'll all be worth it. Cheers.
Perfect timing when you sold the Tundra. But I wonder if it’s a bit early to have sold the 4Runner? Won’t it go further UP in value over the next few months as the 2025’s roll out?
I wouldn't sell both, u have a couple reliable gems that u know how they've been maintained since day one & are probably gonna be hard to get in the future, but, then again, the way the U S is going, we may fly right into recession mode & u can find one cheap. Only u & your wife can make the choice, u know whats best for your family, good luck on your new venture!!! I can only imagine the pain u're going thru to make these choices.
Botches and whines non stop about the new Toyotas...while selling his old Toyota.
The channel is now officially dormant
lol 😆 my ownership videos have been the least viewed videos for quite some time.
What dealer did you trade that in at. Looking to but that if available.
Pederson Toyota in Fort Collins. Looks like it’s sold
Why did you sell it if you complain in about the 4cyl.
I'm pretty sure he I've never intended on keeping that vehicle. I mean, I think I saw the caution tags still sticking out of the glove box.
My 2020 Mazda CX-5 is going on strong, 4 years in, and has zero problems. The hell with Toyota
I live in that area how much this you sell it for??
What are you doing with the new Morimoto taillights. I would buy them.
Why would you sell? Never mind, I see personal business reasons drove the decision. I guess you have to do what you have to do. Wish I could have bought it.
Hey Untamed. Do you still have a code that works for the RB20 GoRhino running boards?
Didn't you just install new break lights on it?
Bro relax. There are so many used ones for sale. Plus the TRD OFF-Road 4Runner with KDSS is better than the TRD PRO by far. I've had several of both and KDSS rides/handles way better than the body roll that comes with every 4R that doesn't have KDSS. Also, what's the business venture?
It’s a bad a$$ 4Runner. I would’ve bought it.
This has got to be the shortest ownership of a 4R you’ve had😢
Sad day, my friend. That is somebody else’s forever car hopefully. (Starts car….gets on 25South). You’ll get what you want again. Hang in there.
