Thank you for this video! I've been researching history curriculums for the fall, and have been looking into SCM. About how many minutes does it take to complete a lesson of the history portion? We are currently doing two days a week for history, so I'm a little hesitant to do something that would be 4 to 5 times a week, especially if it's lengthy every day. Thanks!

We also do two days a week of history so it takes us a lot longer to get through a unit. I’d say the time depends on the reading. 20-30 minutes for history days and shorter on days where we focus on a Bible reading.
Last year though, we did the Gen-Duet and ancient Egypt four days a week during morning time and it was probably 20-30 min each day also. You do have to be ok with time going over 30 min on days where your kids are extra curious. Sometimes, we would sit at the table for an extra 30 min just discussing what we just read or me answering the questions they might have. It’s all beautiful though and worth the time.

Hi! I’m curious to see how the switching between books worked for your kids? I always tell mine to complete a book before starting another. My older daughter especially has a hard time focusing on one book at a time and would jump and never finish any, so I implemented that “rule.” Do the lessons have comprehension checks or writing lessons for the assigned reading? I’m just curious to see if I can tailor it so we’re only reading one book at a time and if that would still make sense as we proceed through the lessons. Thank you for your help!

Hi there! I think reading books for lessons is different than assigned reading for my kids. If I let my kids read whatever they wanted then there would be a lot of unfinished books. When the books are part of a curriculum for science or history then there is a stop point and they narrate and draw a picture after the reading. Then the next time we pick up the book I ask them to recall what we read the last time. Make sure not to wait too long in between or they will forget. In all honesty, I dropped the enrichment curriculum because it was too much. Everything in theory sounded wonderful but it wasn’t a good fit. I did keep the history curriculum because we love that!
With all of that said, if you want to tailor it then I’d just recommend looking at the booklists and just reading through them at your own pace. The guide really isn’t needed of you do that.
Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi! I am interested in ScM and stumbled upon your video. I’m curious why you are doing CC and SCM. Thanks for your time.

Hi and welcome! I try to do both since I like the idea behind both styles. I heavily lean more towards SCM though so it’s hard to be fully dedicated to CC at home. I’d say what’s keeping us doing CC is the community aspect. I do like blending both of them together though. If you have any other questions just let me know!
