    I’ve had my eye on SCM History+Bible+Geo since the beginning of my homeschool journey 3 years ago. After joining and not loving the CMEC, and hearing the peacefulness and simplicity that comes from using the curriculum in your video…I’m definitely strongly considering it once again. Thank you for this!

      I loved everything about the CMEC… until I tried to actually do it. Lol. The resources were really great and helpful for my understanding of Charlotte masons approach but putting their curriculum into practice was actually very hard. I’m pregnant with my 5th baby and this was my oldest son’s first year of school. So it was just way too much for me to implement with having so many little children and this being my first year. So I stopped all CMEC and went down to only the basics (LA, writing, math) and I tried a couple of other things before returning to SCM. So to finish out he year I decided to just add back in SCM Bible and history. We aren’t doing the geography because I wasn’t a fan. I wanted my son to have more basic understanding of geography that he could use today instead of where the countries are in Africa. His LA curriculum includes the geography basics I was looking for. So far we love it! Next year we will be starting the next history stream and adding in the enrichment studies. I loveeee how SCM makes it so simple and there isn’t tons and tons and tons of extra stuff. Obviously with a Charlotte Mason education there is extra stuff but the SCM stuff is far more manageable than the CMEC stuff. SCM is so easy to implement that if there is anything else I want to add that could potentially make it a little more complicated then it’s still manageable. Where as CMEC was so difficult for me to implement I was constantly having to take stuff out.

      Congratulations on baby number five! Sounds like you have a lot of littles and found what works for you. I definitely agree that the enrichment studies next year would be profitable for that and still very flexible to implement. I think Simply Charlotte Mason excels in bringing the methods and flexibility for today’s families. It allows for life to happen. You could still cuddle up and read a good book or take a good nature study walk. Thanks for commenting and for watching and God bless you in your homeschooling journey.

    Thanks for this. I have been looking at this curriculum for a while and thought it seemed really good. There aren’t too many videos on it. This thorough review is greatly appreciated.

    Can you start with modern history?
    Do you know if they are coming from a particular Christian denomination?

    • @moments_peace
      @moments_peace  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, you can pick up anywhere in the cycle and I will make another video to explain that soon. They are protestant, but not leaning towards any particular theological conviction on things that separate denominations. Simply Charlotte Mason has a statement of Faith on their website. Thanks for watching. Look for that other video coming out soon on our channel to specifically answer this question.

    Do you feel the history is too drawn out having 6 cycles instead of 4?

      Hi! I plan on doing a video on this soon. But I hope this is helpful for now: the 6 year cycles do flow nicely and you get so much done in a simple doable way. It is truly written for the family with every grade included. If your goal is to go thoroughly through the Bible and enjoy living books and the matching geography doing the 6 year cycles makes the most sense because of the strong foundation and flow of all history chronologically. Although you can start at whichever history timeframe you like. If you have older kids the additional Bible studies are wonderful too and everything works together yielding lots of fruit. That said, it can feel that way in ancient times but the length and depth of all that history that has really set the tone for our current world does keep interest. I do think you can pick the best of the books for ancient history from the teacher guide from the family list and grade levels or even from the two cycles of American history books and condense them. If you do that, you can still do the geography but up it to more than one lesson a week and try to conquer one each semester or just do one geography book or none. Totally up to you. The 4 year cycle will cover everything that is needed and probably move faster in some topics vs. others for example WW2 vs. Cold War. You may not have the depth of biographies or biblical history as the foundation or woven into it unless you, or the curriculum of your choice, does that. Going through history chronologically is very helpful and makes the most sense to see the big picture of God's providence. You can’t go wrong either way. I have six kids and have homeschooled for 16 years, in that time I have done history in both 4 years and the 6 year cycle, starting chronologically and starting with American history. My graduated older young adults kids are doing well as much as my younger ones. So really it’s up to you, your goals, child's interest, and any state law requirements. I hope this is helpful and makes sense. Thanks for reaching out and watching! Blessings to you!
