  • Unboxing Simply Charlotte Mason 5th and 7th grade one year of history, geography and bible.
    *First, in this video you will see a Latin book that is not discussed. This is because my husband brought up my "stack" of books for me (thank you honey), but Latin is not part of this curriculum :) I guess we'll consider this a sneak peek.
    *Secondly, I touch on a book called Hungry Planet. Please take note to my precaution regarding this book.
    * Lastly, under Geography read alouds I shared Around the World in 100 years and The Bible Smuggler. These books were listed in the Middle Ages lesson plan book NOT the geography work book. I still stand by what i said regarding only choosing one read aloud from the geography list. I apologize if anyone found that to be confusing.
    As always, I am so thankful for every mama who clicks on my videos. I hope that you find my input helpful.
    I hope you subscribe & thank you for watching!

    This was our first year using SCM history (Early modern) and we loved it. We are going to be continuing on with it next year and I plan to stick with it from now on.

    These book choices look wonderful! We educate using CM principles but I like to pull from different curriculums so you have me wanting to check out SCM 😊

    Hello! I am considering SCM for History, but was wondering if you could speak to the amount of prep time and time teaching this takes? It appears to be a five day per week program which seems a bit daunting to me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    • @HappyHomeHeritage
      @HappyHomeHeritage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I follow the nature study guide with Ambleside online. It is very similar to SCM. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the same field guides were recommended 😊 Until we begin High School, I just make sure we cover all forms of science twice. I typically let my kids choose the program from The Good and the Beautiful. They are quite affordable and my kids love them. When we begin HS I may choose something else. Thank you for watching my video☺️

    May I ask why you chose SCM history cycle over AO? I’m torn between the two. What do you use from AO? How do you mix the two without being overwhelmed? Is Latin from Memoria Press? Thank you!

    • @HappyHomeHeritage
      @HappyHomeHeritage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have such wonderful questions. I’m going with SCM because my kids can do the subjects together. AO has it to where the students are studying different eras in different grades to complete a full history cycle by the time they graduate. SCM has a video on their channel on how to modify history cycles for graduation. I suppose I could have found other books for my youngest I order to use AO again, but i didn’t want to take that on since it would be quite the task. For AO I am using hymns, art, music, poems, nature study and the general recommendation of how grammar, recitation, logic and language should be studied and at what grade. There might be more…a video is soon to come. In order to not be overwhelmed, I am using the CM organizer through SCM to schedule everything out. I have a video on this, it’s the 3rd video in the eclectic planning series I recently posted. Latin will be from AO. I opted to go this route this year because the cost of math and writing program is quite expensive so I needed to cut costs someplace.
      Thank you for asking. I promise I will go into greater detail with videos soon 😊

      Thank you for replying! I recently found your channel and plan to look through your videos as I can. Looking forward to what you’ll be sharing soon!
      I agree about trying to place your kiddos on the same history cycle in AO. I’ve thought about it but realized it would be a task to find the right books for the younger of the two. I have a third who is Jesus starting kindergarten but will be along soon enough into history etc.
      Thanks again for your reply!

    • @HappyHomeHeritage
      @HappyHomeHeritage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes 😊 this is why I went back to SCM for History, Bible and Geography. I missed having my kids together for some subjects. They will also have their own personal readers with History/ geography. I love this program because it gives us an opportunity to connect.

  • @tharris04

    Sorry hope it’s ok to ask you mentioned a few times “I’ll want to partake in this read aloud”? May I ask, are you not reading the books? I only ask cause I want to be more flexible with multiple kids and love to hear how other mums free themselves within their schedules.

    • @HappyHomeHeritage
      @HappyHomeHeritage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello 😊 it’s absolutely ok to ask me anything. Ok so, once I feel my children are proficient in reading, including comprehension, I begin to have them take turns with read alouds on their own. This mimics a typical classroom setting where the instructor would have students take turns reading paragraphs. I started doing this when my son was in third grade and my daughter in fifth. As time goes on I would only listen to them read aloud to one another, and then initiate the discussion questions. I have a smaller home where the school room is a loft above the kitchen and opens up to the living room. When they are reading I am able to hear everything. I can hear a sniffle that’s how close we are lol. This has allowed me to feel more confident with their personal reads as well as freeing up space in the home to be more attentive to my toddler and baby. Sometimes, to get things going, I will read the first paragraph. I am still meeting with them before each new school day to go over the lesson plan and be available to answer any questions before they begin.

    How long does it take to complete each lesson with all the readings? Thanks!

    • @HappyHomeHeritage
      @HappyHomeHeritage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello 😊 SCM has Bible, history and geography all on different day. This is so great because my kids don’t get burned out from reading. I would say that it takes an average of 30 minutes for each subject. This includes group discussions, written narrations and any type of writing that may need to be done.

    Hi Bri! Thanks for the latest videos. They are just what I have been looking for! I am checking this SCM history curriculum and so far I love what I see, thanks to you! Now I am still confused about ordering "everything" in a box, due to the fact that we live abroad, and have to get the guides and the reading books all together... So, it is possible to get everything directly from SCM? I've been checking their web page, but I'm still confused about that... Rainbow resoruces for example doesn't have much from the SCM books or guides... TIA

    • @HappyHomeHeritage
      @HappyHomeHeritage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your are most welcome :) Some of the books will be purchased directly through SCM. On the SCM website, once your choose your year of study (ie: Middle Ages) you will see a tab as you scroll down that says booklist. This list will tell you all of the books needed for the program for the entire year. 90% of the books you can find on amazon, public domain, library or second hand. If you want to go with this program and have trouble with ordering anything since you are overseas, I would find material close to what you are unable to get. For example, my daughter is reading the book Ourselves. This book is about being the best version of yourself. You could search for a faith based option that can be delivered to you. Remember, you can get creative with podcasts, sermons, scripture and other devotionals :)
