    It runs lovely Ben. Another great save. That throttle lever is a weird one. I can't believe how engineers back then thought that would be a very practical lever.

      @@VintageOutboardMan I'm very happy with how it turned out. The pull type throttle it a little strange, but it actually works quite nicely for a throttle that isn't on the tiller grip. Thanks for watching!

    It is beautifully ugly. We never got those over here in Australia. It is the same age as me, and it puts me in mind of an old toy robot I had when I was about 5. Such a cool retro look.
    Keep em comin'.
    Love your work.
    Best wishes to you and all your viewers from Brisbane Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 ❤

      @@GlenB1963 That's a great way to describe these motors. It does have that vintage toy robot look to it. These motors were the economy version of the full gearshift models that were made in the late 50s and early 60s. Looking forward to getting this one on the boat. Thanks for watching!

    Nice one Ben! Good ole West Bend! Almost like Eska’s that were built here in Iowa. Have a great weekend! Mark in Iowa.

      @@marksmith4582 Thank you! I'm happy to have been able to save this motor from the junk pile at Tomahawk. It would have been a real shame if it had gone to the scrapper. I must say I much prefer the West Bends over the Eskas. Thanks for watching, Mark!

      @@donk499 I dig this thing. I'm so glad I saved it from the junk pile and it didn't go to scrap. I can't wait to try it on the boat now that it looks like I got all the kinks worked out. Thanks for watching, Don!

    A nice save and very collectable Westbend! Even has its own air scoop up front. Maybe there is hope for the 57 Westbend Muskie that rests in my garage. They have a unique whine when running full throttle on a boat.

      Thanks for the encouragement about the Muskie. I have just about lost hope with the 1948 3.3 hp Sportwin I have been working on. If the NOS main jet (theres only one) I ordered doesnt get it running it will back on the rack until next year when my patience returns:) Looks like i will have to drill, tap and pull the needle seat out.

      @@marksmith9295 You're welcome. I have faith in you and the Muskie. Those 3.3 Evinrudes are not my favorite small motors. A lot of things in those are not conducive to success. The sight glass in the tank is very prone to leakage. The carburetors are much more complicated than necessary. They're not bad runners when they're right, but they're often not worth it to me. I habe one nice one I should get going again, but they don't have a lot of appeal for me. I wish you luck woth yours. There comes a point when it becomes a mission to overcome the difficulties a machine hands you. Good luck and I hope you prevail as victorious over that motor!

      Thanks Ben. Always a pleasure seeing your videos and yes this 3.3 has been a mission. I really appreciate the time you take to show your work and in responding to comments. Some health challenges since 2022 have delayed/extended the timeline for working on the 3.3 so it has been an interesting although challenging distraction for sure. All the best from the Ottawa Valley in Ontario.

    I have one of these. Someone gave it to me a few years ago. If I remember right there is a fine cable running to the gearcase to shift it? It was stretched or not hooked up properly....anyway I got it tightened up and it ran fine. Still in my buildings somewhere...might dig it out. This one seems to be running great JR.

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're correct about the shift cable. It is the same lower unit and midsection as the mid to late '50s Elgin 7.5s with neutral shift. They work well when they're adjusted correctly. You should look for your motor and get it going again. This one does seem to run nicely. I can't wait to get it on a boat and run it. Thanks for watching!
