1960 Scott-McCulloch 12/14hp Outboard Motor Lake Test "Scotty-Macenstein"
CORRECTION: In the video I mistakenly said the powerhead was also from.the 12hp. It is not! It has the 14.1hp McCulloch powerhead on it now.
Bought a 12hp Scotty-Mac with what I hoped was a good gearcase to replace a bad one on a McCulloch 14hp that had been sitting for several years. Ended up liking the Scott 12 and transplanting the 14.1 steering bracket, transom clamp, and powerhead onto the 12 Scott. Turned out to be a great motor.

This is is basically as-purchased condition with only a fee carburetor adjustments. It still needs the carburetor cleaned and the fuel pump is a little flaky. Still, it's a very nice example of a Fishing Scott variant with a nice cover that is still pretty well intact save for a couple cracks on the back. It may improve once it has had a tune up. We'll hope to see next season.

I saved this motor from the junk pile at the 2024 Tomahawk AOMCI meet for a nominal donation to the Northwoods Chapter. It had a broken recoil spring and the fuel system was full of corrosion. After some TLC, it's a great running little motor. Glad I saved it.

Thats is a Good looking and Running Johnson 25 H.P. Outboard you have there. 👍
Had one just like it. Great running outboard. Thanks for post.
These are great runners and the 61-63 were the best 10hps OMC built (from a powerhead standpoint anyway) in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
Do you know where i can find one of these? My Dad had one and it was stolen out of his Garage. My Dad passed in 2010 and i would really like to find another one for my Jon Boat
Where are you located? I have one of these that I would sell. Otherwise, keep an eye on Marketplace and Craigslist. They're out there. Most of them will need a full tune-up service, seals, and a water pump impeller at least to make them reliable regular runners again, but they're out there and parts are still pretty available. Thanks for watching!
If I only had to keep one motor it might be one of these... Or my Elgin 10hp, I cant decide. lol Thank you for the video.
These are great motors for all around use. Very good fishing motors with a great idle and still plenty of power to get the boat on plane and get you where you're going. Thanks for watching!
I’ve had the same issue with the Chinese coils. The Sierra ones seem to be ok but they fit poorly.
@pryan05p71 Yes, I'm not fond of the way the Sierra laminations fit either. They do, at least, work OK, and they can be transplanted to OEM laminations for a better fit. Thanks for watching!

Dumb question, i take it the spark plug wires can be any kind at a local auto parts store right?
@@icrailfanner Not a dumb question and no, the spark plug wires are not modern automotive carbon suppressor core wires you would put on an automobile. The magneto requires copper (referred to as solid core but actually stranded copper wire) core wires. Many auto parts stores do carry solid core wire, and most any farm supply or tractor shop will have it. I buy mine in 100' rolls usually from Amazon or Ebay, but have purchased locally in shorter lengths in a pinch. I go through a fair amount of plug wire, though. Thanks for asking and thanks for watching!
@oldjohnnyrude8404 thank you, I appreciate the response! That's pretty much the last thing I need to do to get my 62 18hp running.

Will it stay cool running slower, for 4-5 mph trolling speed on 12ft aluminum boat?
@@SlipMahoneyBowery 4-5mph is about half throttle on this motor. At half throttle it will stay cool. These motors do have a tendency to get hot running slow due to a lack of cooling air coming from the finned flywheel. At 4mph, though, it will stay cool. Thanks for watching!

Its know wonder that omc failed, very costly complicated little motor for less than 6 hp..
@@terrypikaart4394 Actually this motor was designed and released long before the poor management that led to OMC's demise ever became a real problem. While I wouldn't consider this a great decision, every manufacturer has their occasional "fail" and still do just fine. I agree 💯 that this motor is FAR too complicated and costly to produce for what it is. I like mine for its historical significance in the evolution of outboards and OMC outboards in particular. If not for that, I probably wouldn't bother owning one. They are a rather neat curiosity, though. Thanks for watching!

West bend outbounds looks very similar to the Ted Williams you demonstrated earlier!

I have a 19 4210 hp Johnson. I would like to get some information on interested in selling it. I do not know what the value is. Could you help me with this?
The closest thing I can guess that you have is a Johnson KD/KS-15 which is actually a 9.8hp (very close to 10but not marketed as a 10hp). Value is going to depend greatly upon condition and location as with most other old outboards. I'm not much on appraisals, especially if I haven't seen the motor in person. I will offer the following: These are typically quite nice running motors. I have a couple of these myself. One of them is in running condition and average to slightly above average cosmetically. It still needs a tune up, but I paid $100 for that motor 3 or 4 years ago. In my area, currently, they'll usually fetch around $85-$130 in this condition. Tuned up and in good original cosmetic condition, they will often grab an additional $100. They're fairly common motors but really nice ones are hard to find. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

I have one for sale but don't know what they go 4
The value of your motor depends greatly on the cosmetic and mechanical condition of the motor, your geographic location, and how many similar motors are on the market in your area. In water-ready and average cosmetic condition these typically sell for between 200-300 in the Midwest and Great Lakes region. Prices in MI, WI, and MN tend to be a bit lower due to the number of them around. Prices are higher in Spring than any other time of the year. Lowest in the Winter. One that is beat up may be barely over $100 even running. One in super condition may get close to $500 to the right person. I would recommend looking around at comparables in your area for sale and see what the market looks like. Thanks for watching!
How much will one cost brother.

Ted Williams! It was a Sears brand. My dad worked for Sears from 1956-1981. I have a Ted Williams 30-30 rifle, Ted Williams baseball glove, Ted Williams rod n reel!

I have a 1959 jubilee Evinrude sport twin 10 horse. It's a dual fuel line. How do I get to fittings?
The dual line pressurized fuel tank required to supply fuel to your engine should have the dual line fitting on the end of the hose. Those hoses did not disconnect from the fuel tank. Those tanks are getting old and the fittings usually require new O-rings in them. Richardsoutboardtools.com sells the fixture to rebuild the fittings. Sierra still makes the dual line fuel hose to replace the original line on the tank. The tanks sometimes show up on Marketplace. The fittings and a rebuild service for them are usually available on eBay. These motors can also be converted to use a single line tank with a fuel pump and single line fittings if desired. I actually prefer to retain the original pressure fuel system but it's ultimately up to the owner of the motor. Thanks for watching!
