    Holy Toledo! A lot happened in the outboard motor world between 1947 and 1952. This video proves that. Thanks for showing this.

      @@mikedurhan9941 Yes, there was a time of major advances in the world of outboards in the late 40s to early 50s. Definitely was a lot go8ng on during that time. Thanks for watching!

    My father bought that exact same motor from a furniture store in the mid 70s. The owner for whatever reason had it for sale in the showroom. I think he paid $49 for it. It was barely pumping water at the time but my dad had a spare used impeller for it. We never really used it for anything regularly, but it was the spare motor we kept in the boat for emergencies. I do recall using it at least once when my 1954 16 HP Scott-Atwater had an issue. Thanks again for the video.

      @@waynerowlinson6177 These are pretty good old motors even if a bit finicky. This is the only one of these 3hp singles of.this vintage I habe ever had, so I don't know if they are less finicky and more powerful when in less used/abused condition of not. My '55 Sea King 3hp single definitely has more push than this one. Nice one to have around as a backup. Thanks for watching!

    Tough to dial in but smooth when you get it right!

      @@donk499 Yes, it's very sensitive and the requirements change slightly at different speeds. It is a smooth runner when it's right, even if it is not much in the power department. This one will probably see some further investigation. Thanks for watching!

    I’ve been repairing the same “Viking “ variant of this little motor. It will putt putt with the best of them. It has a pot handle for a tiller handle. Thanks for the video

      Very cool! We don't see too many Viking branded Gales in The States. It would be cool to have one of those. They definitely will idle down to a putt-putt. Thanks for watching!

    Those ol girls certainly weren't the happiest huh? Rhey liked their air fuel mix just right, or a tantrum was brewing. I think she deserves to be in someone's collection. ❤

      It seems they were fairly temperamental. This one could be more so than normal as it has been very well used and badly neglected before I got a hold of it. There is not a lot of mechanical difference between this one and the '55 I have other than a recoil starter and cosmetic changes. It is not as finicky as this one and I have not done a full tune up on that one yet. Thanks for watching!

    Looks like it produces more noise than power lol. I do like its looks though. It sure is a nice surviver. Is that starter handle a 3D printed version or something? I'm still looking for a nice 3D printed copy of those as some of the rubber originals on my motors are starting to fall apart

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@VintageOutboardMan I believe you're right about the noise to power ratio of this little motor. It's not very powerful, and it's finicky about carburetor settings. It certainly makes plenty of racket. They do look kind of neat. I like this motor a lot if it ran as strong as the '55 I have. The stater handle is an old, broken Evinrude handle with a 3D printed rope anchor in it. I have some 3D printed ones available, but as of yet mine do not have the logos on them. They're just smooth-sided. Thanks for watching!

      @oldjohnnyrude8404 That sounds nice! Unfortunately shipping from the US to Holland would be a little expensive I guess. It's a shame most universal starter handles are so uncomfortable and ugly

    It appears that you need an extra arm!

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I felt like I was about an arm short running this one too. It doesn't have a lot of go in it. Not the ideal combination on a windy day with the 16 foot boat. A crosswind and suddenly you have drastically changed course and there is not a whole lot you can do about it. Thanks for watching, Ed!
