    Bro, I literally just got my first manual, ever, 3 days ago. A 2019 wrx sti, and this video really gave me a lot of insight on this car. I can’t wait to watch more. I have A LOTTTT to learn man. I’m loving it so far. Mines was definitely a garage queen 😂 only 20k miles for it being 5 years old

    dream drivetrain set up for me right now would be FA20, STI trans and diffs, reinforced connecting rods. I love my Stage 2 WRX and I love the FA20DIT but man I wish I had the burliness of an STI drive train.

      Had an FA WRX and weighed out the pros and cons between the Sti. Soooo I traded in my stage 2 FA 330whp/350ft lb torque for a 2018 Sti. Made that decision after seeing the new WRX 🤮 I know the sti will be different when released but lipstick on a pig can only do so much. Sooo when my EJ25 blows in my Sti I have the options of swapping in the FA20/24 with the beefy drive train and Brembos. To me that was cheaper an less labor intensive than sti swapping a FA WRX. I'm doing the reverse FA24 swapping the VA chassis Sti 😎🙌🤌

      @@markayala I know the FA24 will bolt up to the Sti transmission. I'm crossing fingers it'll just be a custom motor mount situation and use a different ECU 🤔 check out Prime Motoring for their Crosstrek FA24 swapped putting down almost 600whp stock block and heads 😳 I think this will be the motor swap of gods once we get some good aftermarket on it 🤞

      @@CarsWithJR Thank you!
      Yea, I had always heard the whole mechanical feeling thing before, but can completely relate now after driving it for a bit; honestly felt the difference as soon as I put it in 1st for the first time and started to pull away.
      I did drive both before purchasing the WRX, but I was coming from an '07 Civic Si, so everything felt more "solid" and an upgrade from that.
      After driving the WRX for two years, I can definitely appreciate the difference now. It truly is a different driving experience. It has character.
      I chuckled when you mentioned passing on the "Recaro" seats in your video. Thankfully, I had learned they are not even the full seat, but just the upper, backrest part. Lame.
      This time around I specifically asked for a Base STi with the shortshifter and none of the other upsells. In contrast, my WRX was a fully loaded Limited. What I wanted on there already came standard now on the STi (keyless entry/push start, LED/ steering responsive headlights, leather). The only thing I miss is the Harman Kardon stereo system, but w/ Android Auto/ Apple Carplay the upgrade value just isn't there (maybe if the speaker system was packaged separately). I'll be swapping these out for a much better value later. I never used the nav and would just use Waze on phone anyway.
      These are just my opinions, of course. The WRX was a TON of fun at the end of the day.

    The two main reasons I opted out of the sti were for the outdated high maintenance ej25 and it’s fuel mileage. I had a buddy tell me he’s squeezing 30 mpg on the highway in his wrx and how the fa20’s twin scroll setup having rpm torque I immediately thought. SOLD. Perfect for autox 😂😂

  • @messmeister92
    @messmeister92 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    PSA: As far as warranties go, shopping around for a good dealership is just as important as shopping for a good price. Some dealers will refuse warranty work even if the car is stock, because they care more about the bottom line than a good relationship. (Remember, warranty work is not free-you may not pay for it, but a dealer will).
    When inquiring about a car, ask around at the dealership’s service desk. If any of the service managers have or have had WRX or STI, you’re likely in good hands. They are more likely to be sympathetic when issues arise. Ask around on Facebook or forums to see what service experience is like at a particular dealer, etc.
    If looking at a used WRX or STI elsewhere and not a Subaru dealership, make sure you buy an aftermarket warranty not associated with that dealership. (E.g., if you buy your STI from Chevy, don’t buy the warranty they will try to force on you.) There are plenty of other options, like Fidelity or AAA, who default to dealership recommendations on what works needs to be done, and then will then pay for that work. Make sure you establish a service relationship with a Subaru dealer before issues arise.

    I think a new engine isn't a bad thing but they will definitely go from hydraulic to electric power steering in the swap which will deaden some of the great raw feel this car has. Cant wait to see what the new sti has in store and more importantly how much more will they now cost. If they pull a last gen wrx where they upped the power and sold it for a but cheaper than last gen then the sti will take the crown in the segment

    I wish Subaru would just make everyone happy and put the sti trans in the wrx and the sti

    • @gwot

      that would not make everyone happy, that will make WRX owners happy. If an STi upgrade just means more HP/TQ, then what's the point?

    Hey man . I’m in FL right now . In NFSG but I got an uncle up in WA in my home town Port orchard . He’s about to be an owner of an 8 second civic on E. Question , where do you go to gather your ethanol ? . He is willing to purchase a drum but I told him to hold off on it in case you have better advice . I wrote you through FB also .

    Honestly the engine blowing up is what turned me off to Subies, I did find a place selling a bunch of 04 and 05 STI's for good prices, but I didn't pull the trigger. I almost went for an EVO, but they have their problems too like all cars have weird quirks. I think after I get my Jeep SRT I will pick up a subie as a weekend driver when I want to have some manual fun like a decent 04 or 05.

    3:00 that’s cap because the whole reason I didn’t buy one is because it felt like a boat compared to the competition and I also drove them all including the focus rs

      Also the Nissan juke nismo had a r35 all wheel drive system so I wouldn’t hate on it too much when comparing those seats

    About your wheel setup: I'm running the same rims on my WRX but with 15mm spacers. I don't understand why mine poke out while you're running 20mm spacers and sitting flush?

    • @CarsWithJR
      @CarsWithJR  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I"m using 5mm spacers with these wheels. 20mm for the stock wheels.

    It's not the fastest or the best. One thing I can say about the WRX STI is it literally is THE last, truly mechanical, Japanese driver's car. As old as its technology can be, nothing compares to it. In a world of adaptable suspension, ten million driving modes, numb steering feel, fake engine noise, and push button e-brakes, many will say horsepower trumps everything this car will ever be but the purists will say otherwise.

      that was the closest thing to a straight piped civic on a Subaru, the rumble almost doesn't exist on this car and especially absent at 00:23. Sound is personal taste, i hate his exhaust sound, but the rumble is definitely not there
