GNR were the closest thing to beatlemania that will ever be. Also, you mentioned this being a love song and not what you expected from the band. This was known as the formula back then. Rock bands would put out a balls out song as their first single (welcome to the jungle in GNRs case) to get all the male fans, then a ballad as their 2nd single for females.
Slash is a gift to the world, and when he picks up a guitar, magic happens. Axl is one of the all time greatest to ever pick up a mic. GnR is something special. They were part of a generation that can never be imitated. Modern music rarely reaches as high as the lowest points of that era.

That was great that GnR did that, but it's a far cry from what happened around 1992 with Metallica. They had become friends and went on Tour together and were switching who played last. They were in Canada and Metallica was playing and James got too close to the Piro and got his arm burned real bad and had to be rushed to the Hospital. Everybody was hoping GnR would play longer than their normal set, but Axl got pissed off at somebody in the audience and stormed off stage. The audience got pissed off and started tearing up the place and caused alot of damage to the venue. I'm sure the rest of GnR would have played a longer set, but Axl (back then) used to get pissed off alot.
The singer Axl Rose had in his prime one of the biggest vocal ranges in the world for a male vocalist, spanning several octaves. He could go high and he could go low. There's a story about how when he was a kid and sang in a children's choir he used to switch to such a different octave that he'd confuse their teacher because he'd switch from tenor to baritone or something like that and the professor would think someone had snuck in and started singing. GNR have way too many great songs, this is but the tip of the iceberg.
Depending on the day, warmups, and the way the wind blows, my voice can hit 4 octaves. But I've had very little training, and came to it late in life (I'm 61 now, and only started singing a few years ago). Which I mention because I do the same thing. I have so little skill/control that I just jump around like crazy and can't pick where to sing. Wish I'd learned a lot younger than I did.

@@sconaldo7- The Mandela effect is a false memory though where you are sure of remembering something happening but you are wrong - in this case though I think it's more a case of forgetting a real memory and then using that memory as your own idea - so it's the same sort of thing as the Mandela effect but also kind of opposite - not sure if there's a term for it. The easiest way to see the similarities is ironically listening not to the Gunners version but Alip Ba Ta's guitar cover of the song - when you strip away the Gunners heavier drums and the like and take it right back to the melody they are remarkably similar. I think George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" would be a classic example - he came up with a melody for a song and was happy with it but later it was claimed it was a rip off of the Chiffons "He's So Fine" "I wasn’t consciously aware of the similarity between He’s So Fine and My Sweet Lord when I wrote the song," Harrison confessed. I think the same thing is kind of happening with Sweet Child of Mine where someone has heard "Unpublished Critics" and liked the chord progressions and thought no more about it and then later has sort of replicated those chord progressions without it really registering that they were doing it from memory rather than something they had come up with on their own. The fact that it's said Slash was doing a exercise on the guitar with the classic hook indicates it was probably him who heard "Unpublished Critics" at some stage and was then unconsciously recreating that odd hurdy gurdy effect whilst mucking around - Axl has then jumped on that liking the sound and when they have written their song the natural rhythm and sound that goes with that finger exercise have flowed on afterward. Thats lead to something that is very similar to Unpublished Critics because it's built around the same basic hook. It's possible he just came up with the hurdy gurdy sound totally independently and everything else just flowed naturally but the end result is so similar melodically that it just seems more likely he's heard the other song and replicated elements unintentionally.

I also suspect you'd like November Rain from their set of followup double albums, Use Your Illusion 1 and 2.
@@evangelina3541 - As I understand it, Axl kind of went mad with power and Duff and Slash were really heavily down the drug rabbit hole and he kind of pressured them when they were wasted to sign some docs that basically gave him rights to everything. Hard to know who was right and who was wrong because junkies are not reliable so it's not hard to see Axl's point of view at trying to secure the band and on the other hand getting kind of screwed over by your bandmate is also not great so I can see Duff and Slash's point of view. I doubt Axl would have done it had they not been out of control ( had they been in control they wouldn't have been super wasted) but by the time it happened everything had become super toxic in the band. The fact that pretty much all of the rest of the band formed Velvet Revolver sums up that Axl wasn't Mr popular. I think everyone was to blame to be honest. It's probably better now because Slash & Duff are better and they clearly worked enough out to agree to play together again. It's a shame because had everyone stayed together and avoided losing their minds in their heyday there's no telling how good the stuff they produced could of been - as it was we got some decent Velvet Revolver stuff and a never ending wait for Chinese Demorcracy that ended up feeling sort of stale by the time it was released.
@@evangelina3541 not any one big thing. But lots of things. Axl adding guitars from a non-band member to their cover of Sympathy For the Devil was one of the last straws, but his chronic lateness and willingness to walk off stage early and provoke a riot were bigger.

Axl Rose has an incredible voice. Slash is an icon. They have videos where his face is shown, so keep watching. I highly recommend checking out Skid Row's song I Remember You, 18 and Life, Wasted Time, Monkey Business, Youth Gone Wild, Slave to the Grind. The lead singer from back in the day, Sebastian Bach has an incredible voice and totally a member (back then) of the panty dropping club.
In a statement, Slash said “As a musician, I’ve always been amused that I’m both British and Black; particularly because so many American musicians seem to aspire to be British while so many British musicians, in the ‘Sixties in particular, went to such great pains to be Black.”
Oh my, I remember when this song came out! It cost me $87!! I was cruising down the highway, doing 55 mph (National speed limit back then), and this song fired up on the radio. About the point of Slash's solo, I start picking up speed and by the end of Axl's final wail, I have blue lights in my mirror! The officer was nice and only wrote me up for 15 over.
My daughter was born in 1982, I have this as her ring tone. This band had the best walk up song for former LA Dodger reliever, Eric Gangé-Welcome to the Jungle.
I was going to mention this. His natural singing voice is a bass-baritone, he just sang higher because that was the expectation for rock at the time. His range is/was phenomenal.
Also reminds me of Tim Foust with low natural low speaking voice but also can hit very high. 5 or 6 octives.. not many male vocalist out there that has range like that
GnR is the truth. They were a "hair band" but played some of the most intricate rock music ever made. While almost all other rock bands were out there just hitting power riffs, GnR was putting together songs with layers upon layers.
This song has a very special place in my heart. It was played at my best friend's funeral so it can be a little hard to get through. I did alright today though.
Slash is so hot and the sweetest guy! His guitar is so clean and precise. I met him at a Gibson event here in Nashville. He shook my hand and spoke to me and asked questions and just conversed for 3-4 mins. I was so shocked and so proud i didnt go fan girl until about 20 mins later. I had his posters in my wall when i was a preteen and 25 years later, i spoke with him. I still swoon!.
It's fun watching people discover these monster recordings. I was in middle school when this Album dropped and we were blown away. Axl Rose's vocals and Slash's guitar were together the heart and soul of the GNR experience. There were many other monster recordings of GNR.
The background of this song is very interesting. That open riff is actually a string skipping exercise that Slash did when they had down time. Axl Rose heard it and said, "I have a poem I wrote about my girlfriend that would fit that..." To which Slash was like, "Um, this isn't a real riff, but okay..." When they start saying "Where do we go now?" near the end of the song, that was a legit question. They didn't know how to end the song, they recorded that, it became an instant hit. Great reaction! You have a lovely voice yourself!
You really should listen to "Unpublished Critics" by Australian Crawl sometime - they were on the same label and lets just be kind .... maybe the Gunners heard the older track at some stage and didn't really register that fact when they wrote this song. There are enough similarities that while it's not a straight lift note for note it's similar enough to be jarring.
Britt - I saw them in 1985 or 86 open for the Rolling Stones at the Coliseum in LA. They were so good, they made the Rolling Stones sound like a bunch of amateur's. They were incredible in their prime.
My favorite band since i was 11y old. Still gives me goosebumbs everytime i hear them. They rule. My favorite song is patience. ITs the perfect song. You should check it out. Btw, you are beautifull as ...
“Drop ‘em. Drop ‘em. Everybody’s droppin’ ‘em! All of the girls and some of the boys too.” I laughed like hell at that and the unease on your face during the middle part of the song. I opened a Compact Disc store in 1988 .there were 4 groundbreaking albums from that year that changed music, IMO. Guns-n-Roses - Appetite for Destruction; Joe Satriani - Surfing With The Alien; Living Colour - Vivid; Melissa Etheridge - Melissa Etheridge(self titled). In time I believe each of these four will cross your path - and I look forward to it!
Been playing guitar for 20+ years and this is still probably my favorite song to play front-to-back. Every note is just perfect. Even the bass part is super cool.
This was so funny. I think slash has been a member since he walked out and played the first note at his first show 🤣🤣💀 I've never seen his face. I don't wanna know. I like the mystery.
Great reaction. This is the band at their early prime, right off their debut album. One of those first records where an artist just totally gets it right, from the very start. The lead singer Axl Rose actually has or had a very broad vocal range, from super-high all the way down to quite low. This very high voice seemed to be the one he used most often in the group. It was pretty much basically the norm for male rock singers of this era. Just to note, when the ‘90s arrived the pendulum swung back the other way. And as far as that club goes, any man would be quite lucky to belong to it.
I want to see your reaction to the official video of *Jump* by *Van Halen.* You're going to lose your mind. 🤣😂 And there's Axel doing his version of the "Davy Dance" made popular by Davy Jones of *The Monkees.* Lol. You can see a little of the original in the video of *Daydream Believer.*
The whole entire album (Appetite for Destruction) is absolutely fantastic... every single song is perfection...you can listen to the entire album and not have to skip one song ...
I've heard some great covers of this song, but never thought of Tina Turner doing it. Can you imagine the electricity on stage if you could have gotten Rose and Turner together?! Great job!
At their peak Axl and Slash were the greatest vocalist/lead guitarist duo. They complimented each other better than most of the legendary bands before themselves. Better than Zeppelin, Sabbath or Van Halen. They could both be wailing vocals and guitars licks simultaneously and never clash or drown each other out. Just meshed perfectly
You have to do Guns & Roses - November Rain. Try to do the live version if you can. There is a full orchestra with it and it is incredible. th-cam.com/video/KIDbt3nJCyI/w-d-xo.html

One of the greatest bands of all time...and this album is my favorite album of all time.
A lot of Rock Bands have written Amazing ballads!
Oh my God. This woman. Between her gorgeous looks and her love of the movie step brothers… did we just become best friends??
If you love this Britt then you love even more G&R - November Rain it is their best song IMO and one of the all time great songs ever performed.
I always thought Estranged was a better song, even if it wasn't as big of a mainstream hit as November Rain. Ideally if she reacts to them, she should do the "trilogy" in order (Don't Cry, November Rain, Estranged)
Yesss!!!! Totally agree on November Rain and Estranged
Yes, I agree that Britt would love November Rain...
@@CraigKostelecky All tree were exceptional songs.. The night they filmed Don't Cry was a nightmare for LAX, the building they used was on the edge of the approach, and the helicopters kept going places..lol
But I strongly agree, all three, in order.. Just plain epic songs..
I agree, she should definitely react to November rain and don’t cry
I had the privilege of seeing GnR with Metallica and Faith No More on their Use your Illusion tour way back in the day. It was absolutely unbelievable and my favorite concert ive ever been to. Legends
Axle Rose was trained as an Opera singer and his teacher told him if he went into rock he'd never last because his voice would go out after a while
Axl Rose has an incredible voice.
Rumor has it that the lyrics were unfinished and Axl asked “where do we go now” meaning what lyrics should be next. And that’s what they went with!
Keep taking this old lady back to her teen years! Thank you
YES!!! Please, more 70s and 80s rock!!
I grew up in the 80's and this is one of my favorite songs of all time. Yes, he was beautiful! Lol
In a statement, Slash said “As a musician, I’ve always been amused that I’m both British and Black; particularly because so many American musicians seem to aspire to be British while so many British musicians, in the ‘Sixties in particular, went to such great pains to be Black.”
The 80s was fun time! I still love the 80s style! Cool voice! Love watching your reaction on this! I love guns and roses🌹🌹🌹🌹
Every band had the power ballad. They brought the chicks, the chicks brought the guys.
I agree! Slash in the PDC.
Slash solo in November rain is PERFECTION
Classic GNR...I remember watching Welcome To The Jungle on MTV and just being blown away..
Written for Erin Everly daughter of Don Everly from the Everly brothers. Dark haired girl in video.
One of the most beautiful songs ever. Your not wrong and as soon as you said Tina I was with ya. I would love to have her Tina cover this. Your right
My daughter was born in 1982, I have this as her ring tone. This band had the best walk up song for former LA Dodger reliever, Eric Gangé-Welcome to the Jungle.
That's. My daughter's ring tone on my phone too and she was born in 82 too
There are certain songs/artists where we just know you will be gobsmacked. This was definitely one of those. You don't disappoint!!!
The Appetite for Destruction album takes me back...... always will. Great album, the WHOLE thing
The singer axl rose has a 5 octave range. His speaking voice is actually very low thats the crazy thing
View of Slash's face is plentiful.
November Rain, Patience & Mr. Brownstone are 3 greats from G~N~R that everyone should hear!
Watch his body movements he kinda moves like Tina Turner.
My dad's favorite song and band, he always tells my brothers and I slash is the greatest guitarist ever
There were many other monster recordings of GNR.
slash is just something else.
The background of this song is very interesting. That open riff is actually a string skipping exercise that Slash did when they had down time. Axl Rose heard it and said, "I have a poem I wrote about my girlfriend that would fit that..." To which Slash was like, "Um, this isn't a real riff, but okay..."
When they start saying "Where do we go now?" near the end of the song, that was a legit question.
Top 5 guitar solo of all time.
Britt - I saw them in 1985 or 86 open for the Rolling Stones at the Coliseum in LA. They were so good, they made the Rolling Stones sound like a bunch of amateur's. They were incredible in their prime.
It was later than that, Steel Wheels tour
Slash is a real artist. You should see him play jazz. Amazing.
😂I Luuuuuved Your Reaction When You Recalled Hearing This From Watching Your Favorite Movie. Now That’s Kool.. And Great Reaction Britt❤👍🏾💯👍🏾
Hard to believe this came out in 87. Timeless album that should be in every rock collection. Every track is good.
Open the vault of GNR some many great songs. Paradise City and Welcome to the Jungle should be next
Been playing guitar for 20+ years and this is still probably my favorite song to play front-to-back. Every note is just perfect. Even the bass part is super cool.
Appetite For Destruction is, IMO, one of THE best hard rock albums of all time. From start to finish, it's a masterpiece.
That solo though!! Never gets old. ✌❤
This was so funny. I think slash has been a member since he walked out and played the first note at his first show 🤣🤣💀 I've never seen his face. I don't wanna know. I like the mystery.
Gotta love SLASH!! I agree about your Tina reference!! 😀❤️
Slash is definitely in the panty dropping club!! I’m going seeing them next month! Can’t wait. Great reaction! X
I want to see your reaction to the official video of *Jump* by *Van Halen.* You're going to lose your mind. 🤣😂
And there's Axel doing his version of the "Davy Dance" made popular by Davy Jones of *The Monkees.* Lol. You can see a little of the original in the video of *Daydream Believer.*
I saw Slash and the Conspirators live last Spring. Myles Kennedy singing lead. Absolutely best rock show I had seen in years.
The whole entire album (Appetite for Destruction) is absolutely fantastic... every single song is perfection...you can listen to the entire album and not have to skip one song ...
Im a lifelong GNR fan you can see his face clearly in november rain👍👍
I've heard some great covers of this song, but never thought of Tina Turner doing it. Can you imagine the electricity on stage if you could have gotten Rose and Turner together?! Great job!
That is an image that reverberates.
Slash is quite handsome girl
💋❣️💋
At their peak Axl and Slash were the greatest vocalist/lead guitarist duo. They complimented each other better than most of the legendary bands before themselves. Better than Zeppelin, Sabbath or Van Halen. They could both be wailing vocals and guitars licks simultaneously and never clash or drown each other out. Just meshed perfectly
Slash and Axl back in the day were crazy good!
You have to do Guns & Roses - November Rain. Try to do the live version if you can. There is a full orchestra with it and it is incredible. th-cam.com/video/KIDbt3nJCyI/w-d-xo.html
Fun fact Slash is legit one of the nicest most solid dudes in rock n roll
Best guitar solo ever played
Axl!! And Slash!!! ♥️ Love your reaction to this classic!
I agree Step Brothers is one of my favorites too, but my all time favorite is "The Jerk" with Steve Martin. If you haven't seen it you have too. There are so many lines in that movie that you will think of just doing your daily things like "and I don't need anything else ooh I need that!"
You realize that's one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time
God this band was everything growing up. One of the greatest of all time and defined an era
MORE GnR....They are legends and SLASH is legendary...been a huge fan since 87 when they hit the scene....check out Civil War..lyric video and Paradise City.
One of the best songs of the era. Just found your channel and I must say you are the cutest little thing. If I can still say that these days.😊
Not to show my age or anything, but GNR is the first concert I ever went to back in like 89. They opened up for Aerosmith.
I truly enjoy your reactions. You’re one of the best on TH-cam. Even others doin it say that you’re one of the best.
I laughed my literal ass off the whole time…. Awesome reaction
Ha! Love what you said about Slash! I thought he was the sexiest in my teen years! 😂
Girl, Slash has owned mine since 1987.
