Couple random fun facts about this. The opening riff was just a practice exercise Slash was doing laying around the house to help practice skipping strings. Someone walked in and was like, "That's cool, we should use that!" and slash was like, "That's stupid, it's just a practice exercise." Also, the "Where do we go now?" was about the song. They were playing as they were writing it and got to that part and the singer was like, "Where do we go now?" like what should we do? and started singing it and they kept it in.

@@marinadiamondz We're both wrong. ""Somebody else said that and it just became one of those things," Slash clarified when speaking with Trunk for the Eddie Trunk Podcast (as heard below). "It wasn't a warm-up exercise. I was sitting around the house where Guns used to live at one point in '86 I guess it was and I just came up with this riff. It was just me messing around and putting notes together like any riff you do. You're like, 'This is cool,' and then you put the third note and find a melody like that. Even crazier when you learn the story behind the song. They never meant for it to be taken seriously, it was supposed to be a filler. The opening riff was a warm up Slash used. There was actually a third verse, but the label thought it was too long and told them to cut it. That’s why Axle just repeats, “Where do we go now?” He really didn’t know where to go with the song 😂

I had read that in a listicle(whatever the word is?)/article about crazy facts about songs, how the into riff was just an exercise Slash was using to practice string skipping, Axl heard it and wrote lyrics to it and made them play it until it was finished. Slash hated playing the song for the longest because he thought it was just a stupid exercise he used to practice. Then the producer said it wasn't long enough and made them add the final section. Axl literally had no clue what to do with it and just started singing "where do we go now" thinking they'd eventually come up with better lyrics, but they just stuck with it 😂. @@realmonster5866 not that I can remember. I was in high school in South Africa, so Depeche Mode was all the rage. “Welcome to the Jungle” was their first hit in South Africa, which was probably around 88 or 89, then Paradise City. They had a big fan base those days here, but for some reason in 1992/1993 the party venues started playing this song and so many bands tried to cover it. That’s when it became everyone’s favourite song. Remember it was during Apartheid so we never had any them tour here and also in the 80’s our government were like literal Nazis that banned or prevented music they didn’t like getting played on the radio. So those days we were a couple years behind with mainstream. Except for performers like Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie etc.Go figure, all black artists being played non stop by Apartheid TV and Radio Stations for white people.

To end up with an iconic rock song that's defined by his natural musical ear, just puts him into a different class! Like you said, there's a lot of legendary guitarists you've had the pleasure to watch, but Slash makes the guitar sing, shout, cry, angry but with ease and flow where one note plays seamlessly into the next. Keep it up guys! Cause you're just at the tip of the iceberg. Take care 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💚
