Here is his drum solo from this show. along with Chester Thompson who played the drums for him while he is out front singing. They've been together since the 70's. th-cam.com/video/81rWqhN5jE4/w-d-xo.html
What you’re feeling is Jesus Christ, putting his seal of approval on this song only because we’re going to meet him in the air at any moment for the rapture!!! Are you rapture ready to meet Jesus in the air tonight??? 🌈🕊️🆙🕊️🌈
The reasoning behind the song was that he was getting a divorce. He was really angry and hurt. Well, I was there and saw what you did, I saw it with my own two eyes…..So, you can wipe off that grin, I know where you’ve been, it’s all been a pack of lies……. He is very expressive with words and adds emotion into his songs. Phil Collins was the drummer for Genesis and the back up singer, until the original singer left and he became the main one. He was in the band Genesis from 1970-1996. From 1970-1975 he was just mainly the drummer. He has had many number one hits and done many albums for movies and for Disney movies. He is a legend and will always be.
He was so chill because he was PERFORMING! Something we don't see much of these days. There will never be anyone like this again! I saw him perform live many times, solo and with Genesis. Something I'll never forget. You need to watch more.
Fun fact: From about 1983 to 1991, a Phil Collins song was play about every fourth song on the radio. If you were in your car with the radio on for 15 minutes, you heard Phil Collins at least once.
Today you rarely find such musicians. The 70s to 2000 produced the best musicians that ever existed in their genre... you can forget about the shit today
When you saw the head mic..” is he gonna be dancing?” OMG😂 I saw him in concert both solo and with Genesis every time they came to my city since the late 70’s and he is unmatched.
This masterpiece is a master class on building suspense and anticipation through music dynamics. Goosebumps and chills. But he's not chill, he's intense. No wonder used in so many action soundtracks and samples.
I never get tired of seeing reactions to this performance!! It is so much fun to sit back, relax, and watch others enjoy the ride for the first time!!!
He was in a band called Genesis. First as just the drummer then the lead vocalist as well as drummer. They started in the late 60s and kept making new music into the 21st Century. They recently finished what will be their final tour because he has an illness and can’t drum anymore or have the strength to sing. It’s his natural voice but the keyboard player is also singing along through a vocoder in certain places. Was this his biggest song? It’s probably become that, but it was his first solo hit. He was still in Genesis when he released it and indeed all his solo albums were released during down time with Genesis. He has sold millions and millions of albums.
This was a game changer when it was released. And then it was used in "Miami Vice" a few years later and became a hit again. He had A LOT of hit songs, but this is probably his most iconic. He said in an interview that he wrote most of the lyrics sitting in his house, while he was going through a divorce. He wrote nearly all the lyrics in one go.
Phil had an interviewer ask him how it felt to be a singer who could drum a little? His response is that he always thought of himself as a drummer, who could 'sing a little'. 'Against all odds' is another fav by Phil.
A Legend and Master at work! Phil is a world class drummer with an outstanding voice. A true musical ICON. I am the only 1 who gets massive chills at the drum drop? Phil and this song are IMMORTAL one of the greatest performance ever given. The greatest drum drop of all time!
Full body chills and goosebumps every single time I watch this video! The build up is agonisingly slow. Almost painful, along with the tingling sensation you get when you know what’s coming. The audience’s rumbling when they see the drum kit. Then the epic moment when that legendary drum fill hits you followed by the roar of the crowd!!! If you haven’t guessed it already, I love this song! And this live recording is phenomenal!
I've seen the man do this 6 times in concert and he never disappoints. Last was his Still Not Dead Yet tour in Denver '19. Check out Man on the Corner with his band Genesis. The live concert version will blow you away. In concert is always better than studio
Phil Collins started playing drums at 5 years old. He is known to be one if not number 1 for his drumming. He only started singing when the band he was in (Genesis) couldn't find someone to replace the original singer after he left the band.
Phil was a child singer and actor in his early teens. For me , he could of been best drummer of his generation had he not taken of the singing. His work with Brand X is so different from both this and Genesis.
Consider for a moment the talent it takes to sing, and play drums at the same time. That's 5 different rhythms you have to keep track of at the same time (vocal, two hands, two feet). Not to mention singing while actively moving the rest of your body. This is why Phil is considered legendary.
Yeah, I don’t think people realize that the vocals are on one cadence while the drums are on a different one, so he needs to hold the vocals while timing his drumming
He started as the singer for the band Genesis. He has multiple huge songs, hence why he is legendary. He composed most of the songs in the Disney cartoon movie Tarzan
I have every Album, right from his days in genesis, and his live shows are the best But this one live In the air tonight still makes every hair stand up even on my head, pure brilliant.❤
Catching his wife with his friend together which led to a bad hurtful divorce. After writting the song A new tv series adopted it as their opening and theme song the show was " Miami Vice " great 80s show
EPIC!!!!!! It doesn't get any better! That's how it's done. Timeless tune. I Don't Care Anymore followed this one and was epic also. Kudos. I love seeing the younger generation reacting to this amazing talent. This song will live on and on as one if the best live performances ever! I can feel it......
I 'discovered' Phil Collins and Genesis when I was a teenager. Now I'm 63 y.o. and I still feel goosebumps while listening to this song. Great mister Collins ❤
Yep, biggest song. It was used in the first Miami Vice episode. Phil was also in an episode. He was in child actor. Drummer for Genesis and stepped up to sing after Peter Gabriel left, and started a jazz fusion band, Brand X. Check out, And Then There Were Three. Then he had this band for his solo career.
"Is he gonna be dancing?" 🤣🤣🤣ROFLMAO🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yeah, he's gonna bust a move alright!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 "He's chill." No, my friend, that's pure, unadulterated, controlled rage. It's always the quiet ones you have to be aware of.......
He started out, playing drums for Genesis, and then took over vocal duties when Peter Gabriel left. He was with Genesis for many many years, although I believe this song is actually one of his solo songs. He’s had a huge string of hits, both with the band and solo. Sadly, his health has gotten the better of him these days.
He was part of the group Genesis they did their last tour beginning of this year … in his solo work.. the drummer the base player and guitarist always have worked with him
Kathy here, and yes the drop finally came! He was the drummer for Genesis for years, then went out on his own and yes this is his band who plays with him. Great reaction!! Oh, he can't drum anymore due to his arms basically being shot for drumming for so many years, but his son is now his drummer.
Ha ha! Total redemption in the end my friend!! Did you notice he carried out the word LIFE (“all my life”-for 8 measures of 3beats to each measure? (Or 3 measures of 8beat..let’s go with the prior since this song is in 4/4 timing) I just think it’s incredible. He sang that word (part of that word) 24times!!!
This is almost certainly his best-known and most beloved hit. I'm not sure if it's his biggest selling hit, but it Probably Is. His cover of "You Can't Hurry Love" (originally by The Supremes) is pretty big, too.
This song defined a generation IT IS the 1980's This sing was everywhere he qas the most prolific artist of the era. Phil Collins was in a band that was huge with a lead singer larger than life. The band was Henesis and the man was Peter Gabriel. Everyone thought he was irreplaceable and with him the band would no longer have any success. The couldn't find a lead singer so Phil said, "I can do ii" and he could. They went on to many hits and Phil wrote and sang many songs
Phil Collins and Genesis are entirely responsible for the "sound" of the 80's. They discovered Gated Reverb... the snare drum sound of the whole decade. Even today it's making a comeback. Check out the Vox video called "How a recording-studio mishap shaped '80s music"
This is my favourite live performance. This is a definite draw when someone reacts to it. Loved your reaction. This is just his voice...you guys today, you missed out on the '80s! No auto tuned crap, he wrote this song was written for an ex wife.

When you said " i hope it speeds up" Phil said hold my beer.
It is so surprising that so many people did not know Phil Collins is a drummer...and one of the best as well
These reaction videos are the best thing on the internet. When the drum solo hits, it is pure joy watching everyone’s reactions!
Thank you!!!!
Yesssss 🎉 goosebumbs every single time ❤
The build up is amazing...masterful
Some of these like the Phil Collin’s song has brought me to tears they are so powerful
I just love watching people react to this epic song (this epic live version), it's as exciting and fun everytime. This song never gets old.
This is his biggest song. This song is 42 yrs old and it still has LEGS. This is a genuine CLASSIC.
The level of difficulty to play those drums and sing at the same time is incredible.
“I hope this has a build up!” 😂. I love it when the younger generation appreciates us old folks music. 😊
That is his natural voice
No matter where we were, you couldn't get out of the car when this song came on the radio until you heard that drum drop!
Phil Collins is old school. No auto-tune, etc.
You just met one of rock’s greatest drummers, writers, composers and front men.
He is one of three guys who sold 100 million records as a band and as a solo artist. He has a few other hits.
In case you're wondering who else accomplished this amazing feat, it's Michael Jackson and Sir Paul McCartney.
His greatest hits album is EVERYTHING!!
A few?
The Tarzan soundtrack in its entirety is all bangers!
As is the Brother Bear soundtrack
A few!?!?
This isn't "chill".... It's stone cold seething anger!! I love this song!! Along with all the rest of the songs he made!! 💋💖💋💖😎😎
He was so chill because he was PERFORMING! Something we don't see much of these days. There will never be anyone like this again! I saw him perform live many times, solo and with Genesis. Something I'll never forget. You need to watch more.
OMG! So jealous 😊What an absolutely incredible performance! ❤
Phil is a legend. Period. ❤
It’s goosebumps every single time you watch this performance! ☮️❤️
I always come back to see reactions to this absolutely AMAZING performance! It's surely one of the all time greats ❤❤

That's the truth!
And all of us back in the 80s played our steering wheels when this song & the drum part when it came on..😂😂

I saw Lamb lies down -Genesis- in 74💖💖❣️❣️💖❣️❣️💖❣️
He can sing still, but he can't drum any more - however his son does the drumming for him now!
@@simongoff9190He retired. No more songs. Never will hear his voice live anymore.
Correct me if I'm wrong - I'm sure someone will - but I thought the vocoder was using the pickup from his own mic so the echo was his own voice.
@@whoviating I thought there were parts of the video where you can see the keyboard player using it. But I don’t know for definite.
" Another day in paradise "
Phil Collins is the GOAT❤❤

Phil Collins isn’t even in Rolling Stone’s Top 25 drummers. That’s the same with most music critics, he generally hovers around 30ish
Phil was a child singer and actor in his early teens. For me , he could of been best drummer of his generation had he not taken of the singing. His work with Brand X is so different from both this and Genesis.

His quote is:
"Not bad for a drummer who sings a bit"😅
That is his voice one of a kind....Brilliant
That’s not Phil being Chilled … thats Phil being silently deadly angry !!!!
Dope vid man!!
He was 52 years old at this concert. He wrote and sang it many years before. He, I believe, is in his early 70’s now.
Phil has always said he wasn't a singer who plays drums, but a drummer who can sing. A very distinct difference.
I love how you reacted. I still get excited to see it. It’s to bad that he is ill and doesn’t perform. Needs prayers
He was part of the group Genesis they did their last tour beginning of this year … in his solo work.. the drummer the base player and guitarist always have worked with him

"Is he going to dance?" haha...even better- just wait

LOVE watching you kids discover this amazing song and singer. There is no other song like this. Check all his songs, you won't be disappointed.
when you look back and realise you missed so much.......
I really enjoyed this!

what do you mean Is he gonna dance😂
Yes the guys performing with him are part of the original group Genesis (those who are still alive). They prefer live instruments but Phil helped to creat the trend of “auto tune” (Zap & Roger did that too) that many others have used, but he used it sparingly. PHIL IS DEFINITELY A G.O.A.T!!
Apart from Phil, only drummer Chester Thompson and Guitar Daryl Stuermer had any connection with Genesis. They would both tour with the band for many years but neither were actual members.
Phil said he's been playing drums since he was 5 years Young 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
Da G King Phil Yessss Sirrrr ❤️🔥💪🏾
You should watch the clip of the show Miami Vice that plays this song in the background. It was one of the most gangsta scenes in TV history!!
Do you remember the Disney movie Tarzan….he co-wrote and performed that soundtrack

Just subscribed as I really appreciate and love your reaction and thanks for your genuine reaction. You can not help but feel it and it's magic :)
Phil Collins was one of the people who shaped the face of modern pop music beginning in the 80s.
Best live performance of a studio track in history IMHO.
This is my favourite live performance. This is a definite draw when someone reacts to it. Loved your reaction. Haven't read the other comments but the reason he wrote was because of a nasty divorce he was going through. He was the front man and singer for Genesis while having his own solo career. At one point he had the #1 album until it was knocked off by an album by Genesis. Any song from the album No Jacket Required is worth listening to
One of the other big numbers for drawing reaction views is Bohemian Rhapsody. But this is definitely in that illustrious company.
So glad u accepted this

Phil Collins was the lead singer and drummer for Genesis who wrote the song in the air when he was going through a divorce he doesn't sing anymore because he had a spinal injury and he is 73 years old❤
