80,000 people at this concert. He was 54 years old. He started as the Drummer for Genesis and took lead singer/drummer when Peter Gabriel went solo. Then he went solo. Greatest performer of all time.
It kills me to know that so many young people never even heard of Phil Collins. I know he knows now.
Phil Collins IS a drummer man! It's not just like he can drum! He IS an actual drummer!
There were over 80 thousand at that concert including me! I traveled from the U.S. to France for this concert!
"Did he kill it tho?"
Dude ... Phil Collins is one of the best drummers in the history of music, and that drum break is one of if not THE BEST ever.
I understand hyperbole, but Phil probably doesn't number in the top hundred. You need to calm down a bit.
@@donepearce He does, actually, he was ranked number 43 in the 100 Greatest Drummers of all time by Rolling Stone. Just because you've never heard his music does not mean he is not as great as people say he is. Maybe YOU should get over yourself.
@@nycot107 Genesis was one of my favourite bands back in the day. And 43 is a very generous rating, based on that success.
The best ever... either you don't know or you're forgetting drummers like Neil Peart, and John Bonham....
@@john_thorpe I'd go as far as to say that every metal drummer in every metal band, amateur or professional is probably head and shoulders above Phil in ability.
"Calm before the storm"...I'm thinking to my self, "better get your umbrella cut it's about to rain!"...
I am 70. Thank you for sharing an experience with fresh eyes.
Phil Collins was the original drummer for Genesis.
Good channel. Good vibe. You are groovy (sick) .
Hello? He IS a drummer who happened to have to take the lead singers job. And the rest is history!
I love it when one of you 'young folk' discover something that us 'old folk' know, understand and hold dear to our hearts.
"Why do I feel like this is the calm before the storm?"
Yeah....wait for it. 😎
Love seeing someone's first experience to this
My thoughts exactly
Cause it is!!!!😉😉
@@jackraintree4351 Because it's rare to find someone who has not heard it, since even younger generations have heard it on tv, in movies--it's so iconic!
Because WE know it's coming...It's the "he's selling out stadiums y'all" for me 😂, lol. Love when these youngens get a taste of what we grew up with.
Phil was a Artist with a big A.. thats why he could stand on the stage for so long, and do what he was best to do.. He still lives, but he cant play drums anymore :)
I love the fact that you had NO idea who he is.. And that makes me smile.. Because he without doubt one of the biggest artist when it comes to pop rock.. No doubt at all.
Phil has been drumming for over 40 yrs....LOL He is 1 of the BEST...... Look what you been missing.....LOL.. LOVE PHIL COLLINS...!!!
I haven't even watched your reaction yet and i can tell you now he is gonna win you over!!!! ❤
The legend that is Phil Collins, seen him a few times
Phil Collins is a musical legend. And what’s more: he is good people. He gives a lot to charity.
I love when he plays those drums, I always like Phil Collins, a true talent. That is the highlight when he does that.
Total Legend.
Young fella- You have just been schooled!!!!! Now you can do some research on who Phil Collins is! Great reaction video to one of the most Epic songs and THE most EPIC performance!
Yes Indeed! And use headphones!!!
Can I do this tooo😂❤
Phil is a phenomenal musician.! He actually plays 9 or 10 instruments, the piano
Because it IS the calm before the storm....
It is so exciting watching as young folks experience great music from the past, knowing you're about to witness their minds being blown! 🤯 Peace!!☮
Im glad these young people are sharing their reactions. It brings me so much joy watching them. And the comments prove people can join together in our love of pure talent.
WORD 🎯😜🤘
Phil Collins is without a doubt a musical gift from God. Definitely one of the most talented artist in the history of the human race.
Yes. Phil, David Bowie, Dave Gilmour, Andy Bradbury, and Eric Clapton. What a quintet and Band they would be !
And you better tell it James!!!
Most definitely
So true
Dude, Phil Collins was the drummer in his first band "Genesis"
Bet u didn't expect that lol. The vocal range and music make this one of the best songs ever but live is freaking fascinating. One of the greatest entertainers ever
Phil was the drummer for the band GENISIS. He is a legend. This song he wrote after catching his wife with another man. followed by a DIVORCE.
CRAZY how you kids don't know the G.O.A.T.s!! I LOVE watching you young ones reacting to the all the greats of OUR time! Phil Collins was the drummer for Genesis. When lead vocalist Peter Gabriel left the band for a solo career, Phil stepped up as the lead vocalist as well as the drummer.
One of the best drummers ever! Great voice too.
Phil Collins isn’t a singer. He’s a drummer that just happens to sing.
Oh he kills it! Greatest. Live performance Ever!!!!!!
This live performance is the best
Your reaction was PRICELESS my friend ☺️ I'm 65 yrs ago and I still get big time goosebumps when I listen to this song ✌️&❤️
Awesome reaction to this, thank you!! 😃
Saw Genesis live in 1987. Mind-blowing.
Phil Collins started out as the drummer for Genesis before becoming the lead singer and then went on to a solo career.
People will hear this song on the radio while in their car, reach their destination and sit in their car until the drum solo before they turn the engine off.
God blessed me by bringing me into this world in a generation that had the greatest bands in our history! No auto tune, no artificial anything... 100 % pure natural greatness!!!
He is a drummer that can sing not a singer that can play drums... Drummer first!❤
he was a drummer before a singer started in the band genesis when the split he beame a singer xx great singer made some classic songs .. and that drum bit he made very famous !!!
Yes, he was a drummer before a singer but he actually started singing lead for Genesis after their original singer, Peter Gabriel left the band.
Son, that song is an icon! He had just found out his wife was cheating on him, and he caught them together! This song is aimed straight at the two of them. Oh, and it was also on the TV show "Miami Vice". You are listening to true talent.
They did not split. Their lead vocalist (Peter Gabriel) left and Phil moved into the lead spot. He started a solo career on the side in the 80s. They never did break up.
And he was an actor before that. His acting experience stood him in good stead when he was performing as a musician.
Might be my favorite reaction to this, but I love you so I might be bias. 🤣❤
He’s a drummer, originally in Genesis and then solo. Listen with your headphones in/on! Way better experience 😊 Love your reaction 😊
He was I Genessis as well has having a solo carrier and doing some acting.
this song is one of the most covered songs out there. the man is literally a legend in the music industry. i've loved this dudes music since i was a kid....in the 80's xD for real though that guy has had a hand in shaping 2 or 3 generations of kids because his music has just last the test of time. This song in particular he wrote it himself, and then went back to the studio and recorded the original by himself. recording each instrument piece one at a time until the whole thing was done. it's by far one of his most memorable songs he has ever done.
Aren't you glad we grew up when we did? We got to experience the best music
@@suicidal73 you should go and listen to early genesis... foxtrot and the lamb lies down on broadway for instance... pisses all over his solo stuff.
That song is a religious experience.
Turn up the volume for the music.
HEADPHONES will make you want to bleed a little.
And you kept talking thru the drummin. shhhh, and HEAR all of it
It always cracks me up when the younger generation discovers music from the older generation. Phil Collins is counter among the top five drummers in the world. I'm neon fortunate to have been to a lot of concerts including his when he played in Tampa Florida in 1984-86. I can't remember much from back then because most of my days back then were in a blur. Bit I sure remember the concert. When started on the drums the whole crowd 1,000s of people got up and cheered. The guy next to me spilled his beer on me but I didn't care. The energy and excitement from one of these icons concerts is just amazing.
He beat those drums like they owe him money.....
Or like they were a guy lol
Dude, if you've never heard of Phil Collins then you've never seen Disney's animated Tarzan movie. Which is a damn crime!
Yeah! He’s Phil Collins.
I'm ALOT older than u, and I just love when someone requests a song way back, like this was 2009! We had such great bands! Hope u get into more! Before Phil Collins went out on his own, he was vocalist for the band Genesis! They were awesome! Check em out!
Yeah. Wonder if he knows the song originates Way back in the '80's!! Lol 😂
Listen to Phil Collins "I don't care anymore" live from perkins palace
Uncle Phil! Yeah, we adopted him.
A long time ago lol
When he collaborated with Phillip Bailey on "Easy Lover," there was a plate saved for him at the cookout. Lol
So glad you like it. Bought the album the day it was released. Listened to it a thousand times. & It STILL give me goose bumps. That's Phil Collins... Something to think about, this is neither the opening or closing song of his show. It was just one more song in the middle of the nights playlist. Imagine a whole concert with every song like this.
He was a drummer first. Best one around. He was 53 when he did this.
Originally the drummer for Genesis, epic musician, song writer, an absolute legend
Phil Collins is a drummer who also sings. And does both very well.
Oh it's a banger!! Lol
I'm so lucky we had the best music back in the 70 & 80s I have every album Phil & genesis ever made there up there with queen 👑
I think your one of the more genuine reactions 😊
Love how you said calm before the storm 😂 You felt it coming ! Awesome reaction !
The Words u r searching for is "LEGEND" and "BAD ASS"!!!
I love the audience building up when he approached his kit. They KNEW what was coming.
He started off as a drummer. Loved your enthusiasm!
Everyone in the audience in this show is thinking "I've been waiting for this moment all my life"
You should have definitely worn earphones at the highest volume for this performance. Its like being there. ❤
Phil Collins is a musical genius
Phil plays drums (brilliantly) piano, percussion, trumpet, Guitar, Bass, oh and he's a singer too. In this video he is totally teasing the audience because they know when the drums are supposed to come in. Phil plays with them and keeps the anticipation going. You can tell when the audience realizes the drums are coming as he walks to the set they start cheering and applauding because they KNOW the wait is almost over. Yes the calm before the storm, good way of putting it.
I honestly LOVE running across reactors like you who haven’t heard of performances like this let alone have never heard of the performer. VERY hard to do with this song and someone like Phil Collins. BUT…here you are! Haha. LOVE IT!! I barely heard of Stevie Ray Vaughan either when he died when I was 19 (another that ya GOTTA check out some day). That’s what makes TH-cam and platforms like it so awesome…a new generation gets to hear it all over again!
Say whaaaat 😲 never heard of Phil Collins.... That just makes me feel really old 🤣🤣🤣
So much great great music to discover with him. Anything you find, I'll watch your reaction 😉
Keep those Dimash and BTS coming as well though 😜
I so hear ya Alice Rubeksen, about feeling old lol I am there. I agree with everything you said...
@@jeaniejbutler4911 We're not old though. It's just that some may think we look old 😜❤️
I kind of envy these kids, hearing these great songs for the first time.
I mean that's what I said. Like this drum break is probably the most recognizable drum riff in all of modern music. It's literally in movies. The Hangover when Mike Tyson knocks out Zach.
If it helps, I'm 28 and love Phil Collins for about the last decade 🤣
Why do I feel like this is the calm b4 the storm...cute.
😂
Notice the drum set come up from the floor as Phil walks up to it? Love your channel!
Phil tours at 70 yrs old and he's from the band Genesis, which is out on tour later this year. His son Nic plays drums for him now.
I saw him in 2019, and even though he did almost the whole set just setting on a stool it was AMAZING.
Phil Collins was one of the best drummers of the industry, who just happened to know how to sing lol
The performance is more recent but the song is about 40 years old!
@@rsmith8434 The song was released originally in 1981.
Listened to Phil and Genesis when I was your age! Thanks for the reaction, it took me back and I loved your response.
God Bless!
Hey, good reaction! This song has been sampled a lot and has been used in video games. It came out in 1981 and was from Phils first solo album, where Phil poured out his frustration and anger over his divorce. He was also the drummer in the band Genesis and stayed in the band after he went solo. He was hugely popular in the 80’s, charting with the band and as a solo artist. He is one of only 3 artists to ever sell 100,000,000 records as both a band member and as a solo artist. The other two are Paul McCartney (The Beatles) and Michael Jackson. The robotic chorus you hear is created by his keyboard player singing into a device called a vocoder.
The calm before the storm... so great.
he plays all kinds of instruments and sings and writes music 🎶
Legend , one of the best Drummers
“2009....You guys are sending me stuff from-way when!” OMG LMMFAO!! Thanks, great reaction to an EPIC SONG, SINGER, MUSICIAN !! 🐐🔥🔥🔥🤟🏼✌🏼
It never gets old. You watch common people watching Gods be Gods and being amazed at their godly power. An old and proven power that is new to them.
He plays all the instruments on his last few albums, he has a million hits. He started out as the drummer for Genesis and went on to sing with them and then started his solo career around early 1980's.
Genesis wasn't his first band. He was around long before then.
Phil Collins is a World Class Drummer!
He started out as the drummer for the band Genesis, then started singing with them, and then started his solo career around early 1980's.
Sadly he had to give up playing the drums because of back problems when he got older.
Phil was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis in 2010.
The rising drum set for him is great too
Your reaction was spot on - “calm before the storm!”
Phil Collins is an awesome singer and drummer - originally with Genesis, then went solo!
I still have the same reaction when he hits the drums! 👍🏼
His son was on back up drums!
From his hands to his feet, phils drumming is full of raw passion
Hes a professional drummer too.
"He's selling out stadiums, y'all???" Haha! Oh boy....yes, yes he does!!!! Phil is a huge part of music history! Anything of his is pure gold.
"Why do I feel like this is the calm before the storm??" Good call, dude! Buckle up!!!!
Dude, He sang with his band in front of 500,000+ people in Rome, this crowd is like only 17,000 lol
It is just wait he is great I love this song it’s about his break up he is a drummer he was the drummer for Genesis he has a lot of good songs this is my favorite gives me chills every time I hear it❤️❤️🇺🇸
Epic!!!! His son Nicholas is a mean drummer 2!!! Pearl Jam Black MTV Unplugged is another classic!!
Tickets for his concerts went on sell 12 months before the performance!! SOLD OUT EVERYTIME within 3 days!! This concert was in Paris.
That is the guitar you hear!
Dude… this cat is a Legend. Been doin’ this 50 years…
Brah man's a legend bro hes history bro that's how good the man is lol
I had not listened to this for years (I had the album when it was on tape!) and I had not realised quite what a well-crafted piece it is. The tension builds, and yes, the calm before the storm, then the release when the drums start. It was a joy to see such a young man experiencing this for the first time!
No one forgets the first time they hear Phil Collins In The Air Tonight.
They do not make them like that anymore. A Legion in deed.
Phil collins is one of the greatest drummers to ever play. You all didnt know that?
HahahaHahaha....got cha!! It's so cool to see that you appreciate all these artists I grew up with......
Phil Collins is THE GOAT! He sings, he plays drums, he acts, there’s nothing he can’t do. He is one of my favorites, even with Genesis. Good reaction, please more Phil Collins & Genesis. Phil Collins-Easy Lover, Sussudio, One More Night, I Wish it would rain down, Or Genesis, Tonight Tonight Tonight, Land of Confusion, and I can’t dance. Man Phil Collins/Genesis has soooooo many songs to choose from. 😁
cause he's a drummer first! while he was in group Genessis he used play drums...then he made his ön albüm
See I was a teenager in the late 80’s early 90’s and way back then we used to cruise town on the weekends and we listened to the the same 3 radio stations in the car and when this song came on you could hear it as a car was passing and everyone would tune into that station. You would see every person doing the air drums to the most epic drum break in history. Everyone I know still does it to this day. I still get chills. He is the definition of a legend 🤘🏻❤️🇺🇸🙏🤓
Not bad for a drummer “who sings a bit”! :) One of the best drummer ever!!! ❤
He joined Genesis in 1970 as their drummer. He did some backing vocals to the singer, Peter Gabriel, and also as the singer on 2 tracks up until 1976. Peter Gabriel left 1975 after the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway tour and the search for a new singer began. After MANY auditions for a new singer, the band decided that Phil would be the new Genesis singer. They released the 1976 album A Trick Of The Tail with Phil Collins on vocals and drums. For tours they hired an additional drummer, Bill Bruford and in 1977 they hired Chester Thompson (the other drummer in this video) who played on tours.
Phil Collins is one of only three artists that has sold over 100 million albums as a solo artist and with a group. The other two is Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney.
A busy drummer “who sings a bit”!
