It was Phil Collins who talked the others into spending a million dollars on stage lighting etc. This isn't first hand info, I've read it in many places and passing it along to you. Best million anyone's ever spent in the music worlds live performances. I hope PC is feeling better. He's always going to be on my playlist. Iconic performance.
Genesis has been pushing for new stage technology ... they were one of the first to use the colour-changing spotlights and also used "storytelling video displays" as the background. They could do it because their tours were mega-events in the 80s and 90s.
I'm lucky enough to have seen him live twice. This song is like an orchestra of musical fireworks. It resonates on a cellular level. I'll never forget it.
I am 62 & I grew up listening to all of his music....He was 57 when he did this concert... And he can still pack em in !!! He will always be EPIC !!!!!!
The thing I'm concerned about is, how do we get back here, after Covid! You can't have "live" without the fans feeding off of each other's energy! and, as you can see, the place was packed...literally!

Absolutely love your reaction, filled with respect and appreciation from one drummer to another. One thing you didn't do was interrupt this incredible performance. You watched it all and soaked up his intensity. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Too many reactions from people who talk throughout it and don't actually watch and listen. 7:42 yeah, right? That is the Legendary Leeland Sklar. He's played on over 2000 tracks of vatious Artists. He has an nice TH-cam Channel where he plays songs and talks about his experiences.
Phil wrote this song when he and his first wife were divorcing, she was leaving with their 2 boys. He sat down and started writing, has said he didn't even know what some of the lyrics meant but he was filled with despair, anger and pain. He left Genesis for a time and worked on a solo album Face Value to try and bring her back. The arena here where this concert was held 80,000 people. It is epic especially when live.
So we have gollum on vocals/drums and gandalf on bass. All joking aside, as soon as the beat drops for the drum performance i always get instant chills

Leland Sklar is the bass player, he does demos of base lines on his you-tube channel. That is a seriously great drum kit. The concert was in France. So sad his back went out on him, so he had to give up drumming. A friend in the 90's used to tell me when the next Phil Collins album was coming out. He'd buy it and we'd all listen to all of it.
