- People have been asking for this video for a while so I finally took the time to think it out, consult some warranty experts and get a list together. When it comes to modifying within your warranty you need to understand that there are certain aspects that will and will nor void your warranty. All of the parts in this video will vary from dealer to dealer however; this should be a solid list that will keep your power train warranty and drive train warranty in tact.

Before I got my STI a year ago I didn’t know squat about the car scene or anything dealing with voiding warranties. Believe it or not this is still useful info because there’s always going to be new people! Great video.

Good stuff! Finally got mine up on jack stands tonight for oil change, diff/trans flush, rotors, brake pads, lines, and master cylinder brace. Looking forward to how it drives after I’m done! AOS and a Short throw shifter and bushings next, maybe coil overs after.

Very informative. And when in doubt, call your dealership. They should be able to tell you yes or no if you tell them what you plan to do. On the interior mods don't list, the seats are also a no. They have an occupancy sensor in them, so if you swap seats it will keep the SRS/air bag light on.
Correct seats will alter the SRS System and the dealer is alqays a good option to ask when you have a question 🙏

Don't void your warranty unless you can afford it. I had to get my steering rack worked on at 55000kms which is a common problem with 15+ STI's

Oh wow I’m so glad I watched this video! I had just bought a set of killer b dual oil catch cans. You had mentioned if I installed an AOS system it’ll void the warranty. If I installed these catch cans would it do the same?
I asked the service guys at my dealer before installing the Radium dual catch can kit and they approved.
As long as they approve and still cover it then your solid 🔥

Best modification I ever did on the brakes was to get quality covered stainless steel lines and Porterfield R4S brake pads. They dust like hell but OMG you can hammer them again and again with little to no brake fade.
Brake modifications are by far one of the best you can do 🔥

Actually, yes I can 🤔 ive had an idea that ive wanted to do so it works out
The paint lines are torque stripes. Let's you know if a bolt or screw has lost its torque, due to vibration, just by looking at it. Its more of a Quality Assurance thing. Its a lot easier when inspecting the engine bay, to just look and see if all the stripes are still lined up, than it would be to go back through and put a torque wrench on everything again. Also helps keep track of which bolts you have already torqued when you are putting it all together
Good to know havent used that method for that before but definitely going to start doing it now 😅
How about an aftermarket intercooler? Could that lead to a claim denial under the warranty? I’d like to hear more turbo whistle.
Just bought mine 3 weeks ago! I'm curious though if a dealer would argue coilovers affecting any sterring rack/CV issues down the road 🤔 One of my first mods I plan to do along with spacers on the stock Limited wheels.
They could but unless your running extreme camber you shouldn't have any issues 🙏
Love your videos man I have a ‘19 WRX and was looking to see if I can get as close as I can to the Subaru rumble I know I won’t get close cause of the Equal Length Headers in the FA but anyone know of any catback or axle back I could get to get relatively close to that sound without being too loud?

You seem like the perfect person for this question..I have a 13 with SPT and want to put axel back deletes..for the life of me I can’t find a company that makes that for 11-14..will any of the 15+ models for spt fit..or would I have to totally remove the SPT down to stock cat back and then use non SPT axel backs..thanks
Unfortunately axles backs don't fit up to thr SPT Exhaust because of the flange type. I would suggest just getting a catback and sell the SPT
So just got my 2020 Sti and new to the car scene! I was thinking about getting the invidia Exhaust not really sure what the difference is between the R400 Gemini and the Q300. Still unsure if it would void the warranty or not. Your videos are great keep up the great work
Will not void the warranty and the Q300 will be quiter than the R400, and congrats on the new car 😁
Just get the r400 it sounds alot better than the q300. It’s what I got for my 20’ it sounds amazing
I’m not with Subaru but I wanted to see if new interior lights and maybe new head and tail lights for my Si would void the warranty because you said it caused you some problems and I just wanted to make sure before I do anything

I have two questions: 1) Have you driven an STi with the Recaros, and how do the standard seats compare; and 2) I noticed some car care products in the background, and do you use any Griots products. I was at Subaru of Puyallup recently and drove an STi with the Recaros and wondered if they're worth the extra $2,400. Any thoughts?

Great video! So I just wanted to clarify would a down pipe/ j pipe void the warranty? I remember watching your “stages” video for the COBB tune and is it required to tune the car when installing the down pipe/j pipe?
It is required to tune the car and replacing any piece of exhaust that has a cat in it will void your warranty 😖

One question though. What is your opinion on AOS in super cold temperatures. It reaches -50 (Celsius here) and I’m concerned a warm motor pushing moisture around and then suddenly dropping will freeze that moisturez
Definitely would get a catch can over an AOS. I woukdent risk having the return line freeze in those Temps 🥶
I wonder... If you swapped the transmission to same year/model outside of the dealership does that void my engines powertrain warranty or affect the engine oil consumption recall ? Its running perfectly, do I have disclose I swapped the transmission to the dealer? will they even know?

I got my 2019 sti last august right off the lot brand new. I got an extended warranty on it until 100k / 10 years. I’m at almost 12k now almost a year later and I’ve only put a catback exhaust, wheels, tires, engine bay dress up, and a bunch of small interior and exterior changes. So far it’s been flawless and is a great car unmodified. Prepare to be surprised, but I’ve never found myself wanting more from it. If I want to absolutely fly down the road and go ham I take out my fully built motor 6speed swap track ready 02 wrx out.

I've got a 2019 STI bought brand new only mod a catback exhaust. So far 15,000 mimes & runs smooth.
It's pretty easy to prove it though. Just get a Master Tech say so. Every dealer I called said a cat-back will not void anything; yet, SOA told me, "It might. It depends." Then went on that "Usually" when someone puts an after market exhaust, "They retune the ECU." So, if no retune, then a cat-back shouldn't void anything except warranty on the parts that have been replaced with the after market parts. Correct?

Funny how you mentioned LED. I install LED brake lights, after driving my ASC service light comes on making it horribly to drive. The fix was to buy resister to fix the voltage issue
Ove seen a few cars that have had similar issues when swapping to LEDs 😖

So I have a 2020 WRX And I'm debating if I want to bother with the drive train warranty or not cause I'm tempted to add a Short throw shifter we're all is included in the drive train warranty That would be messing up
Well worth it IMO, and subaru could die multiple potential warranty claims to a Short shifter.
Most common issued I see with thr WRX drive train is the T.O.B
If I buy a STi from a subaru dealer can I ask them to scan to see if it had any tunes on it? The one I am looking at was supposedly owned by one of their techs. I just want to make sure I keep the factory warranty for a while since it is a 2020 and has 4 years and 35,000 miles left on the powertrain warranty. From the carfax it seems like it could be true that a tech owned, but I definitely want to quiz them about it and give it a good look over and test drive.
You should be able to, all they have to do is look at the PID #

I saw that you said that an AOS will void your warranty, I got the IAG street series AOS and I've heard that it wont void the warranty unless it was the the cause of the source of the failure. Is this true?
Yes and no, depends on the dealer. Under SOA it will void potential for warranty claims.

It would only really mess with your headlights. Aside from that it shouldent void any aspect of your warranty. 🙏

So I’m needing a new transmission, but i have coil overs and different wheels on it from when I bought it, will that void my warranty? Or should I just switch back to stock in the meantime while they do a diagnostic on my Subaru?
It shouldn't create warranty issued unless the car was slammed. What happened with the current trans?

If you buy the vehicle used but you flush the ECU does it give you a time stamp or would it just say that it was flashed at some point so you could do the I bought it used I don’t know what was done to it before comment

What do you think about replacing my fake fog covers on my 2020 sti with some sort or lighting equipped options fog lights etc whatever. The 2020 have vents down there for cooling but i like the look of lights down there
You can get WRX bezels and run fog lights 😁

I just bought an 18 wrx sti in lapis blue, and it came with a certified 72 month 100,000 powertrain warranty, and an added 72 month or 60,000 bumper to bumper warranty so I needed this video until those warranties are up 😂

You would need to tune for it and the tune itself would be probable cause to deny a warranty claim

On my Outback, the dealership threatened to void my warranty due I do my own Oil change and tire rotation. I let the dealership do the first service , Oil change, tire rotation, 20 point inspection. $106! I document and save all receipts. They rounded off the drain plug anyhow , WTF?
As long ad you keep records from maintence done by a ASE mechanic they cannot deny any type of warranty claim for the engine unless it is vehicle misuse, modification
In regards to the exhaust, I've replaced the midpipe with a 200 cell high flow cat...so the car still has one, am I still automatically voided? I also have an upgraded FMIC on the way, will both of these things automatically void my warranty?
The intercooler yes, it will void it. As for the catalytic converter that qill be at the discretion of your dealership
Even though the cars have flash counting abilities the dealer has to send the ecu to Subaru to check to see if the flash was from a accessport or a dealership as the dealerships don’t have the software to access that part of the ecu....... at least that is what a Subaru master tech I used to work with told me
May be dealer dependent, the dealership that I go to has the software to pull ECU data for flashes. Regardless just want people to be aware that is SOA has to do an investigation they can find out 🙏

Bridgestone Blizzaks- very solid tire, I have these on mine now for the winter and they’re awesome
ETS states they don’t require a tune for their intake. Theoretically, if I swap back the stock airbox before taking it to the dealer they won’t flag/void my warranty for being modified right?
A tune is highly suggested, you won't benefit at all from using an intake without a tune to go with it. The ECU will send the same amount of fuel and you'll run lean.

Nothing you have to clean but you'll need to walnut blast your valves at 30K miles

You'll need to replace your car and that will raise a red flag for dealers

Just curious but do intakes fall into the voiding category and at what point could they blame the filter you choose to use is so
A drop in filter no, but an intake yes. An intake without a tune will pump more air into the system but the ECU can only correct so much on the stock tune. Car will add more air due to the intake but not more fuel so the car will run more lean potentially causing more detonation

Warranty would be effected and give the dealer a reason to deny some claims
