Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act states that a warranty cannot be voided due to the sole fact that you have use an aftermarket part. The dealership/shop must provide proof that an aftermarket part used caused the issue in question- in order to "void" it.
This is not completely true. You may use aftermarket replacement parts...so long as they meet OEM specification. Things like air filters, spark plugs, tires, brake pads, etc. However, if the part changes the parameters of function, performance, like headers, even some air intakes. Even a catch can can void a powertrain warranty. The spirit of the MMA, is that manufacturers cannot force you to use a specific brand of common replacement parts. But once you change systems, or performance you have now changed the actual product and it is no longer the product that is warrantied.
Ok y’all, take some time and read the Magnusson/ Moss Warranty Act. And big thanks MetalDad. My 14 year old and 20 year old daughters took me to go see Gojira recently, as that’s one of my favorite bands, and they love Gojira too, soooo, metal dad back at ya. But read the act. After explaining the ongoing problems I’ve been having for 16 years with my dealership, one of my best friends who is like my defacto lawyer told me that it sounded like I may have a Mag/Moss claim. I read the act, and it was mind blowing. And this isn’t just about cars, it’s about ALL consumer products. The rights we all have but don’t know about are incredible, since we are all so used to getting screwed over, but the act’s details actually make logical sense and are incredibly well thought out, and really aim at thwarting fraud, slackard business owners, and bad business practices. The explicit warranty section is straightforward enough, but the implied warranty section is a real deal eye opener. Too much to explain, but basically everything sold by a person who sells that type of item as a matter of advertising, claimed products or services, or other status’s aimed at gaining the trust of a would be customer looking to buy a product from said vendor. An appliance store may sell lawnmowers, but if that is a regularly sold product, they should be versed in the basic workings of a lawnmower. Even with an “as is” in the purchase agreement, a product sold by someone who routinely sells such a product, or advertises it as a product sold there, or claims in any way shape or form that they are knowledgeable or experienced selling said product, then that product should work as intended. Known as the “implied warranty of merchantability”, it means that if a thrift store sells you a lawnmower used and “as is”, and it never works at all after purchase, then they owe you a comparable product or the monetary equivalent, and that choice is theirs. But if you have the lawnmower for two weeks, and they can prove that it worked fine when sold, then your case might sink. But if it’s obvious that the lawnmower was never gonna survive one week, and they blow that off while you bring it up, you might want to peruse that issue. The details and duration of these expectations vary by product type. If you bought two table saws, both identical, one from a pawn shop and another from a used tools supply warehouse, chances are that if the saw prematurely fails, the used tools place will have more responsibility after sale than the pawn shop, who might not specialize in tools. I’m also pretty sure it’s illegal for them to even MENTION that mods will void your warranty because that is full tilt fraud. They specialize in selling cars and actually represent the manufacturer, so they have no claim of ignorance to hide behind. I have an 06 Dodge Magnum RT, bought brand new front the Dodge dealer less than a mile away from my home. The sale process was top notch. The service experiences will quite literally melt your Brian. I should write a book and I just might. Right when my factory warranty was about to expire, I was notified by the sales the sales manager that I could but an extended or lifetime warranty on my car, so I chose the Max Care Lifetime Bumper to Bumper Warranty . It has been both a blessing and a curse. I’ll stop there because the stories are crazy, even embarrassing for the deals per ship. The games played are well practiced and used as if impunity was their middle name. It has been 16 years of mind boggling story after mind boggling story. They once changed my address and used my ex wife’s address from a place where she lived for barely a year, and that was more than a year after divorce. They tried to claim that Chrysler didn’t want to cover my warranty claim because my address was different from what was on their information. When I asked the guy who changes that info the guy told me I was the only one who could. I took that as a blunt insult on my intelligence, and after a week of telling them how they had better get it straight, suddenly it was magically fixed. The whole of the consumer goods industry counts on and preys on our ignorance on all products.
To get the most out of a CAI, you will need a custom tune, which will void the warranty. Without a tune, you will gain only 10 hp or so in most cases, even on the CAIs that claim a tune is suggested but not required. It's not worth it, IMO. Thanks for doing this video, Bro.
@@devs1590 You're right, but a lot depends on the CAI and the tune. Too aggressive a tune can give a bigger boost but is also bad for the engine in the long run.

1. A dealership will always try to figure out a way NOT to warranty. 2. A dealership has to prove a particular mod caused a particular part to fail. They can’t simply do a catch all warranty void simply because you modified your intake...
In 2012 I broke a half shaft and it ripped the differential loose on my 2010 Challenger R/T 6 speed manual while running it at the drag strip. I had a K&N cold air intake Borla long tube headers catless mid pipes MagnaFlow competition serious exhaust aluminum One piece driveshaft 100 octane tune. I call Mopar customer service and they sent a wrecker and had it taken to the dealership where it was fix under warranty. The invoice was signed by a factory rep. I also had a full Hop Not kit on it.
How about Headers? Probably like you were saying about cat back exhaust being behind the Cat. With headers, Cat would most certainly no longer be covered. But, this part bolts up to the engine also, so they possibly could look at it a bit differently about it. Guess I just need to contact my Dealers Service Manager on headers! I have a 2021 Ram 1500 (Built to Serve) with 5.7 L Hemi. I put a K&N cold air intake on it, really stepped up engine sound; really noticeable when I get on the throttle. Did seem to pep it up a bit; but, not sure I buy the addition of about 38-40 HP and 30-40 LBS of torque like K&N test results show. Maybe, maybe not. But I do understand most performance guys claim the stock exhaust manifolds on the 5.7 are garbage.
I had an intake done on my car and one of the hoses got loose. Took it to the dealership and rather they tell me that and just put a clamp on it they wanted to remove the aftermarket and re install the stock. Charging me to do both things. Luckily I said no and Checked the car, bought a $3 hose clamp and fixed it myself. Dealerships are dirty.
Maybe a matter of wording, but a dealership doesn't deny warranty, the manufacturer does that. The dealer submits the R.O. to the manufacturer for a warranty claim, and the manufacturer then approves or denies the warranty. For many, especially major issues, the manufacturer will demand an ECU read, and may require photos, video, and even have a factory warranty rep actually come and inspect the car. Dealerships don't care who pays for the repair, only that it gets paid.
Thank you a lot!!! So I basically need to swap the mods off before i take it in. My car came with straight exhaust on my 5.7. I'm not going to supercharge my car or do anything to the block until my warranty is off anyway.
X great informational video. Agree with everything you said. With my 720s spider the dealer was going to install an exhaust no problem lol. Only because of a good relationship with service management was I told that if I do that mclaren would flag my car. I decided not to do it. Just not worth the possible fight down the road. The manufacturer has all the cards and even if you win a warranty despite it will be a costly nightmare doing it. Like you said be prepared to pay if you mod. At the end of the day if you mod your car you shouldn’t expect the manufacture to pay for it. Believe in karma!
10:35 - I saw your top mods under $300 and putting in a 180 degree thermostat was noted there. Here you note it and I understand to get it tuned if i choose to change the OEM, but I wanted to know if a simple change of the thermostat will void the warranty. Thank you for all the exciting ideas.
We're talking about pretty expensive cars, why unlock the PCM and void your warranty when you can just buy a second one already unlocked and swap them when you need to drop by the dealer?
Hi Racer X concerning aftermarket mods to our cars and trucks, I own a 2014 Ram 1500 w/Hemi . I asked at my local dealership about adding modified parts to a New truck. I was told to have the dealership install and sign off on those mods so they will not void the warranty. I have to also mention that I live in Canada and it may be a little different in other countries but just ask at your local dealership , they will be glad to answer any questions about their products.
Racer X I had the Flywheel come apart in my 2019 chally 5.7 at 14k miles. I drive normal not hard on my cars. I enjoy but do not beat on. Well they fixed that and I am still having a random no start issue now. Anyone dealt with dodge on big issues like this. Car has been getting worked on over 40 days.
When I make wheel and tire mods on my 2020 Charger Scat Pack, I plan to stick with the same diameter wheels for reasons you explained in your video. This is the first time I've seen the stock wheels and tires on your Hellcat. What size rear tires are you running on your stock (9.5x20?) wheels? I'm currently running the stock Goodyear 245/45-20s on my vehicle and need more traction. I was thinking about going with Nitto NT05s in the rear. Thanks again for another very informative video!
You forget that most dealers will keep your warranty if you have the dealer install it. In Weatherford Texas I bought a mustang 5.0 the dealer did my exhaust and carbon driveshaft and all the suspension arms and coil overs. All my stuff was made by Ford racing except the exhaust
Great Review ! nailed pretty much every question , I am thinking to get one and I would definitely like to lowered about half inch and change the Exhaust sound
I took mine in for a recall and sold my tazer (before I purchased another) the dealer told me I needed a new pcm cuz of the air bag light when they flashed it. When you do the scat performance pages for track mode with tazer in the lower trims example RT road and track (also you see numbers in your cluster for therm temps)(scat cluster set up) it throws air bag light until revert back to cluster settings

But I’d appreciate ur input and love the videos and all the work you’ve put in from here beginning to the demon thank you man.
Lol brother. You and i already look very similar and now with the swollen eyes it’s even more so. We are going through hardcore allergies from the oak trees in Florida right now. Eyes are swollen shut every morning for 2 weeks. Our cars are covered in green pollen. I blow them off 3 times a day and they’re still green. Everyone here has to wash their vehicles 3 times a week at least & it’s the dry season so no rain to wash it off. My allergies started before the green pollen was visible so expect in 2 weeks from now you’ll be worse, lol, this is what happens when they lock you up for a year and your immune system gets weak. The lockdowns & masks were making people sicker and weakening immune systems. At least you and i live in somewhat of freedom states! ✌️
Glad to see this. I voided my warranty and they didn’t cover my transmission because of it paid out of pocket. I have a 19’ Charger Scatpack and I went Long Tube Headers, Catless, Legmaker CAI and a Tune. Listen to the words of the wise he isn’t kidding about them voiding your warranty 😭
Great video brother! I'm surprised the diff brace might void the warranty. I was thinking about installing one just for extra insurance. I do have front and rear strut tower braces to install. I don't think it should be a problem. What do you think bro? My dealership has been pretty cool so far.
The factory Mopar optional 3.09 gear limited slip rear differential should be warranty safe, as it does not require a tune. Might void the warranty on the diff itself but the rest of the powertrain warranty should be safe.
Another thing i see is people. With under 100 mile, 300 mile, 1,500 break in period. Posting on On social media. Like leaving the dealership. Doing power burn outs, racing, ect... Dodge can void your warranty.
Great video as usual, funny this popped up I was just in a conversation on Facebook this morning about this very topic. But what I wanted to ask is what about driving is there a driving style that could potentially violate your warranty if you drag race it or if you just doing a burnout and you redline it a couple times will that void the warranty and can the door even tell that you did that besides looking in the back tires?
Dealer wanted to sell me an extended warranty. I told him I was going to mod the car. Like a supercharger. He told me that would effect other parts. I said said so if I blow up my tyranny I was ok. And he said yes. I said I don't think so.
I would believe that if the manufacturer sold modification products, then like products should not void warranties. The cold air intake for instance; Mopar makes and sells Cold air Intakes also. purchased
🤣🤣 for one, my car came with a lot of modifications from the previous owner and it was sold to me by a dealership, so my warranty might not be any good. And two even if I needed to get something fixed, right now every dealership is on backorder because of false covid claims. I think they're just trying to hold out until everyone's 3-year warranty runs out 😂

My oil life gauge is the center screen. Just scroll down to the gauges and thumb left until you see it. I believe it starts with tire pressure but I mostly have mine on intake air temps and it stays pulled up. You will notice you have about 10 different options when you get to the right spot. No problem man. I was really impressed at everything that it would tell you. Tons of info compared to my 2019 rt Durango. You can also customize your gauges in the performance pages. 1 more thing if you like to get sideways. If your in track and you long press on the traction it will cut the sway control off. So you will have two orange lights on the dash in the center of the Speedo instead of just one. Then you can drift or do donuts without it stopping you.
I'm thinking about getting a 1320. I dont plan on doing anything major right away, but a tune is usually the best bang for the buck and sucks Dodge is so picky. I'm tempted to stay with yet another Mustsng as Ford seems to be more lenient and even a e85 kit gives a decent power boost in the coyote. I really wanted something different though. I wonder if it's worth it to pay a little more and order one from a place that sells a lot of 1320's rather than saving a few bucks and taking my chances on a place in which you can get one at 4% under invoice?

Again,he keeps talking like the dealership can “decide” whether or not to honor the warranty. They cannot. They can dispute a claim, but if the customer disputes back it may go to court, where the dealership has the burden of proof against them. I put supplemental air bags inside of my coil springs, the AirLift 1000 is a supplement to the factory springs and essentially increase your spring rate. If they were to claim that those caused suspension problems, they’d have to prove it, and I doubt they could. But let’s say that keeping them pumped up tight put undue stress on a component and over time caused a failure. If they can prove it, they’ve got a case, but it’s just not their opinion that matters, it’s facts. Put nitrous into your intake and blow a head gasket, it won’t be hard to prove fault.
Question the warranty on my 2021 Challenger 392 T/A says 6 months or 6K. Fine. Then why doesn't the dealer change the oil before delivery then?
@@mrsmith9768 There still must be proof of causation for whatever issue is in question for any warranty to be denied. No matter the circumstance
Great vid! Thanks for providing great info. This is why I like your range of content! Keep it coming!!!
Much appreciated my friend

@@aimxdy8680 Not without Custom Tune. It has to have a custom tune, not the stock tune.
Just keep stock pcm and but a unlocked pcm. And if anything happens… just put the factory pcm back on
@@thullraven1what cai truly gives you the promise 30hp? Most of the time with a good tune it’s like 15-20hp
@@devs1590 You're right, but a lot depends on the CAI and the tune. Too aggressive a tune can give a bigger boost but is also bad for the engine in the long run.

Absolutely my friend
1. A dealership will always try to figure out a way NOT to warranty.
2. A dealership has to prove a particular mod caused a particular part to fail. They can’t simply do a catch all warranty void simply because you modified your intake...
I just bought a octane red Dodge Charger 392 today. Thanks for the information, awesome content!!
Congrats my friend 👍
Excellent information and I appreciate you providing specific examples. Your channel is rocking!
Thank you Chris
Yoooo I just asked you this on INSTA 😭 thank you
I did too and he actually responds and helps you.
Yes it’s sad but very true
What about a cold air in take and a throttle body?
10:35 - I saw your top mods under $300 and putting in a 180 degree thermostat was noted there. Here you note it and I understand to get it tuned if i choose to change the OEM, but I wanted to know if a simple change of the thermostat will void the warranty. Thank you for all the exciting ideas.
We're talking about pretty expensive cars, why unlock the PCM and void your warranty when you can just buy a second one already unlocked and swap them when you need to drop by the dealer?
I've heard of you LS Swap it your warranty is fine. And it's an totally easy mod. Done under an hour. 😏
10 mins? 😂
But can it be done to a Fiat 500? That's the question. Imma call up the dealer...
Another dope video X. Definitely doing some small things to my scat until I’m ready to jump up. 💯💯

I’m just running some 295 pilot sports in the back but I typically run a 305 MT Street SS.. I also like the Nitto NT 555R as opposed to the G2’s.
Thank you for all of that. I loved the assessment!!
Interesting.. good to know

Great video brother! I'm surprised the diff brace might void the warranty. I was thinking about installing one just for extra insurance. I do have front and rear strut tower braces to install. I don't think it should be a problem. What do you think bro? My dealership has been pretty cool so far.
I think you will probably be just fine with those.. they are not invasive mods

No individual mod can void your warranty. If something breaks they have to prove that the mods are what caused the malfunction.
Dealer wanted to sell me an extended warranty. I told him I was going to mod the car. Like a supercharger. He told me that would effect other parts. I said said so if I blow up my tyranny I was ok. And he said yes. I said I don't think so.

You said it makes over 1000hp? How's the car treated you? I'm bored of the Stock power of the Hellcat & want more power
I would believe that if the manufacturer sold modification products, then like products should not void warranties. The cold air intake for instance; Mopar makes and sells Cold air Intakes also.

🤣🤣 for one, my car came with a lot of modifications from the previous owner and it was sold to me by a dealership, so my warranty might not be any good. **RacerX.... I just picked up a new to me 2019 Scat Pack wide body! Your content has been super helpful. However, I’ve looked everywhere for info on how to check the current or remaining oil left left. Since I just bought the car I was wondering what the current oil life shows but it’s a mystery? Any advice on how to access that in the car’s system?
My oil life gauge is the center screen. Just scroll down to the gauges and thumb left until you see it. I believe it starts with tire pressure but I mostly have mine on intake air temps and it stays pulled up. You will notice you have about 10 different options when you get to the right spot. I have a 2019 392 Charger. Hope this helps. It tells you trans temp, oil temp, coolant temp, oil life, air intake temp, tq specs, hp specs, and a few others I’m forgetting.
Awesome! Found it. I didn’t realize the info on each screen also went left/right 🤦🏻♂️ Thanks for the help. It’s at 8% so looks like I’ll be changing the oil this weekend!
Excellent info! Thanks. I’ll be putting together some videos and will definitely need that T/C off button! Lol

What about the Tazer from Z automotive will that void your warranty..
Got the same question that and changing my diff to a 3.09 and using a pedal commander ?
I never got a response back on do the taser void your warranty
Haha you live right down the street from me

I don't understand why there is so much confusion about this topic. The dealer has to prove that whatever mod you have caused the problem. Period.
They'd probably say prove that it didn't cuz u kno they can be slick in not honoring the warranty
