  • Romani music or Gipsy music is the music of the Romani people, who have their origins in northern India, but today live mostly in Europe. Historically nomadic, though now largely settled, the Romani people have long acted as entertainers and tradesmen. In many of the places Romanies live they have become known as musicians. The wide distances travelled have introduced a multitude of influences of Byzantine, Greek, Arabic, Indian, Persian, Turkish, Slavic, Romanian, German, Dutch, French, Spanish and even Jewish musical forms. It is difficult to define the parameters of a unified Romani musical style, as there are many differences in melodic, harmonic, rhythmic and formal structures from region to region. Lyrics to Romani songs are often sung in one or more dialects of the Romani language, and dance frequently accompanies Romani music performance.
The quintessentially Spanish flamenco is to a very large extent the music (and dance, or indeed the culture) of the Romani people of Andalusia. Apart from Romani music for local use, in Eastern Europe a separate Romani music originated for entertainment at parties and celebrations. This music drew its themes from Hungarian, Romanian, Russian and other sources. Later on it gained popularity in Western Europe, where many Romani orchestras were active, playing sophisticated melodies of East European origin. Most Romani music is based on the folk music of the countries where the Romani went through or settled. Local music is adopted and performed - usually instrumental - and, slowly, it is transformed into Romani styles, which are usually more complex than the original styles. In its turn, Romani music has greatly influenced the local music.
Traditional Music Channel is for everyone who has a passion for music.
Music is an expression of human creativity. UNESCO reports that among all the performing arts, music is the most universal and is found in every society, most often as an integral part of other performing art forms and other domains of intangible cultural heritage.
Traditional forms of music are considered carriers of cultural heritage because they represent expressions and traditions transferred through generations of a community.
With recordings from more than hundred nations our collection of traditional music offers a staggering diversity of our humanity.

As a Romanian jew, i always have feel a big empathy and proximity with the Romani people. They just like us have experimented with centuries of discrimination and segregation (literally they passed throught the same horrible things than us like the holocaust) My grandma used to tell me that in the tsarist russia era, the jews where not allowed to enter to formal music schools, and the only people who taught us where the romani. All because they knew what was to be discriminated. Thanks to their help and the help us and vice versa for centuries .we have the Klezmer music thanks to them and much more. So for me whoever who thinks that romani are just thief , is just like ignorant as the people who says that all the jews are zionist or all the muslims are terrorist.
Thanks for sharing this compilation it was very beutifull.

It's interesting you mentioned these things,I'm half romanian half roma and I actually know what you are saying, once a very blonde guy I know(a friend of a friend of mine) referred to the ""color"" of many of us as sh*tsk*n,felt really strange about it,he did direct it at someone else and tried to make it seem like a joke but that only made it sound even worse, there still is prejudice

there is still prejudice because the majority of them are acting very shitty in the society. i live in a neighbourhood populated only by gypsies, and you have no idea how horrible it if for me, as a girl. my windows are about to explode every time they listen to manele, and that happens everyday at any hour. +you have no idea how it feels to not be able to walk home at late hours because you can be rapped or abused or even killed at any step. in the end it doesnt even matter when I leave the house, because every time i wear something more feminine or elegant, its impossible to not be assaulted with threats of rape by them, and to not be looked at like a slut they can have anytime they want. so for destroying my safety, my personal space and my confidence, i hate them. but, there is a huge but, i absolutely adore and love traditional gypsies, for example, gypsies from transylvania. they are literally so classy, i love their music, their clothes, their strong personalities and charm. i even bought a gypsy skirt from them and i absolutely love to wear it. they are also more friendly. when my parents wanted to leave sibiu to come back home, the car was broke and some gypsies who were street cleaners helped my dad fix it. no romanian did this. so, there is a huge huge difference between classic, traditional gypsies and my neighbours type.
i always wanted to spend at least one week in their "șatra", because it seems to be a little world from another time, i just love them

I'm a Sinti gypsy, the soviets took away and tortured my great grandmother, then when we fled to england they treated us worse here. If there is nothing else to be learned from history it's that gadje and their governments have the power to corrupt any ideal, and yet we still believe in truth and justice and every other quality. Marxism seeks to end governments, end the powers that let people do this to us, and anyone, Roma or gadjo, who doesn't see the wisdom in that must be an idiot or evil or both.

@@hoti47 You mean the USSR? The USSR and the Warsaw Pact were state-capitalists, and failed to even achieve a socialist economy, or political structure. A centralized economic and government system, which the wide use of secret police, the squandering of civil rights and political freedoms is anti-thetical to Marxism's goals. Marxist-Leninists are not true socialists no matter how much they can try. Coming from a Left-Wing Anarchist, you are absolutely false. I am aligned with those of the worker class who are oppressed by the state, and that also means those oppressed by the state for ethnic or religious reasons. You are just fed red scare propaganda to think that the USSR = all socialism/communism, which is untrue. I'd actually consider the USSR fairly close to fascism at time (Stalin, wasn't a coincidence that they not only have the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, but the Soviet-Axis Talks as well.), whilst at best being an authoritarian social democracy (The end of Gorbachev's Premiership) How about you check who were at the forefront of the Civil Rights movements across the world, oh wait, that is right it was the Marxists. Wasn't the Conservatives. Not the Liberals. Not the Fascists, but the Marxists. Figures from MLK to Einstein were either Sympathetic to Marxism or were Marxists.
Maybe before you go off against Marxists, you should realize how diverse a group they are, and how the broad minority are Marxist-Leninists, in which the rest of Marxist communities denounce and do not support. If all of Marxists should be represented by them, then every capitalist is a Nazi by your logic. I know this got long-winded, but I don't plan on going back to this comment, and wanted this to be here.

I'm on the quest to find answers and joy for my soul. I am obsessed with ancient Indian culture, matrika-yogini concept. I want to explore female divinity more.. I feel a deep connection in my heart with the ancient cultures. I don't know why as if I can almost see my past lives. Music is one of the key to unlock the door I am taking....

A lot of it is an old cultural rivalry. Back in the old days, work was highly seasonal and people needed to work to survive (stocking up for winter), thus having to compete with foreign travelers didn't go well...
Today, there are some different problems: lack of integration, no ambition to contribute to society in any meaningful way, lawlessness, and tribalism to the point that one argument results in a hundred gypsies coming to fight... Obviously, it's not all of them, but some places have a lot of bad apples... and the worst part about them is that they are highly cooperative among themselves, but absolutely uncooperative with everyone else...
One funny example: one guy fell in love with a gypsy woman and she asked him for help to get her brother into the country and he found a loophole (had something to do with Scheinselbständigkeit, essentially opening a business, but not making any money, and then relying on welfare, but with a lot of extra steps). Soon, her brother came, but not just him. It was the entire village! If I remember correctly, 200 people all wanted to settle down in the same city at once! The mayor allegedly called the mayor of the town they had left and received a mocking reply, something about a woman can be stunningly beautiful, but an alcoholic will stay an alcoholic and that they are now his problem...
The mayor got furious and it didn't help that when he visited the quarter where they had settled (at times a dozen people in a tiny flat), he was standing next to a pile of garbage taller than him, and reporters filmed, how someone held a little kid outside of a window, high up in the building so that it could poop down! The mayor frigging lost it. He said a bunch of things that got him canceled for racism. He lost his office and his party membership was revoked. The right-wing party invited him, but he refused to join them. He devoted his life to trying to draw awareness to the importance of selective immigration and integration.
PS: I had Gypsies as neighbors. He was working in a well-paid white-collar job and had two fancy cars. His wife was probably the nicest of all our neighbors. However, when it came to being well-integrated and law-abiding, they were roughly on the same level as us Austrians (trying to cut corners everywhere and use malicious compliance to mess with authorities).
