One of many the reasons I liked the 1st season of the Flash so much, when things went multiversal and we got to glimpse "Earth 2", for some reason, the show was able to excellently convey that it was more than just a background set piece, it may not have been our timeline, but it was still a living breathing world. I was left wondering about all the people who lived entire lives throughout the entire history of that timeline, all the differences, there was an entire world of new journeys and events that unfolded differently, I still to this very day wonder about the alternate timeline's more obscure events and moments that we didn't get many details on.
Thawne knew how to play his manipulative mind games especially since being from the future enables him to rub salt into any wound he wants. He didn't care if it was a descendant he was "playing like a fiddle" or whoever was a threat to his egotistical and self righteous goals, he'll play his mind games and will do anything or go to any lengths to win.
Eddie: "Well, I guess I should just commit suicide, huh?" Eobard: "No! Wait! You do get married and have children, just not with Iris.." Eddie: "Nope, too late. You already said I have to..."
You know its interesting Eobard had goals and dreams of being a hero and idolized the flash so he copied the incident that gave Barry his powers and thus Eobard gained access to the speed force but he soon finds out that his future is already set up for him to become a villain and the rival to the flash. He ends up accepting that realization and becomes the reverse flash hating Barry for eternity, but here in this scene something similar happens to Eddie it's revealed that his life is going to end up meaningless in both career and personal life and that he won't be marrying his fiance. But instead of accepting the timeline and letting things move as they have been written just like Eobard he ends up sacrificing himself for those that he cares about.
