“Remember when you were fighting Quicksilver and was he was thrown into a samurai statue holding a sword? It was me Barry, I put that statue there to make it seem like you won with your own skills but it was actually me who was responsible for killing Quicksilver!”
I like how they added that into the fight. Gives it a callback to an earlier battle and it's kinda funny that he just put a statue with a sword in the middle of a field.
But it wasn't important. There's an infinite amount of other goku blacks that still have the ring on. When you kill goku black and disintegrate his body, you're also removing the ring from him and destroying the ring, but that doesn't affect his other timelines. Having him win by removing the ring was just really stupid and completely disregarded the actual way it works and every other time GB died already in the battle. It should've been a draw. They should've fought for all eternity.
Fun fact: Here, in Latin America (except countries like Brazil or others that don’t speak Spanish, 2 yrs later I’m editing this XD), both Reverse flash and Goku black are dubbed by the same actor: Mario Castañeda.
Seeing that the Flashes stomp both Archie Sonic and Dragon Ball Super makes me wonder what they were thinking when they put poor Quicksilver against Flash...
He GLANCED at the cup before he smugged and changing from punching Black to punching the cup out of his hand Looking back at this is reminding me how amazing the animation is lmao
"I'm sorry, was that important?" *phases through Goku Black, drags him across the planet, and throws him into the sun* Easily one of the best moments in the history of Death Battle, hands down. It’s a very simple line, but it’s the delivery that gives me chills.
Everyone knows the real reason RF started the fight wasn't because of the destruction Goku Black caused, it was because Goku Black interrupted his "It was me Barry!" monologue. Destroy the planet, or even the universe. Whatever, Thawne will just go to another timeline. The monologue though, that's irreplaceable, and it's interruption is just unforgiveable.
"It was me, Barry. I tampered with Ben's Omnitrix so it wouldn't activate its safety protocol which would eventually lead to Green Lantern winning and inviting you to his victory party in the watch tower which gave me enough time to kill Iris."
The fact that people are revisiting the "It was me Barry" meme for previous Death Battles is - in a strange way - pretty amusing. Although having gone back and forth on Ben Vs GL for the longest time, I'll say Hal getting past the Omnitrix's defenses is honestly feasible; All Lantern needs to do is outspeed the Ominitrix's AI, and based on several of his feats, he/his constructs are more than capable of doing that. More than anything else, that match up made me understand the "no limits fallacy", especially given the Omnitrix and Alien X. It's always more reliable to go off of the original source material and what a character HAS done, as opposed to fan conjecture and what people have CLAIMED they can do. And when you have characters like Ben and Hal, who are seemingly overpowered until they aren't (Ex. Ben's watch glitching out or Batman pickpocketing his ring), you sort of have to give them the benefit of a doubt and scale there most impressive feats fairly. Simply put, the path of "this character can do anything because I like them so much" is a precarious rabbit hole I'd advise people to steer clear of.
I love the idea of Zoom just being some random petty bastard who goes out of his way to tamper with Death Battles to create the most controversial victories just to get a rise out of Barry and the internet
Some people question how Reverse Flash would figure out the ring is the source of Goku Black's paradox powers. Reverse Flash comes from a franchise where there are entire factions of people who get incredible powers from rings, some of which even being friends with Barry. I'd be surprised if it wasn't one of the first things he'd consider taking away.
Reverse-Flash can detect time anomalies, so it wouldn't take much for him to detect the energy from the Time Ring. And even if he didn't, he *would* take the ring off and destroy it, just to be petty. There's no way Goku Black could figure out the Negative Speed Force is what gives Reverse-Flash his time paradox powers, nor would he know to neutralize it. Unlike anime, Eobard isn't stupid enough to explain it to Goku Black.
@@Animeaddiction Tbf even if Goku Black DID discern the Speed Force, he has no way to separate Thawne from it. Remember, the DC multiverse is comprised of _infinite_ universes, and above and below those universes lay an _infinite_ number of layers of dimensions _which themselves are infinite,_ and above ALL OF THAT is the Speed Force (and its equal, the Negative Speed Force) controlling velocity and motion over all existence. So, the Speed Force isn't just 4D or 5D, it is literally *_infinite dimensional._* EVEN IF Goku Black somehow figured out that Reverse-Flash draws his power from an entirely different dimension, and _EVEN IF_ Goku Black also somehow figured out that there had to be a way to cut Reverse-Flash off from it (both of which are already huge stretches, mind you, since Zamasu hardly is any kind of super genius and would know nothing like the Speed Force), there is still *_absolutely no way_* that Goku Black could ever even have the power needed to reach and destroy the Speed Force/Negative Speed Force. Shoot, even Zeno has nothing implying he could reach and destroy a realm laying above an infinite number of dimensions which themselves are already infinite. Even cutting Reverse-Flash off from the Negative Speed Force from the normal 3rd dimension was out of the question, since Goku Black explicitly lacks the Speed Force vibration powers that Barry Allen used to remove Reverse-Flash's powers (which makes sense given that the Speed Force and its granted abilities naturally counter the Negative Speed Force, while Goku Black's far more limited Saiyan powers... don't). Meanwhile, the Time Ring would easily be crushed by a mere fraction of Reverse-Flash's multiverse-tier strength. Not to mention that the Time Ring actually freaking _glows_ whenever it's used, so Reverse-Flash probably _wouldn't even need his ability to detect time anomalies_ to figure out that the Time Ring is important to Goku Black's abilities anyway. This as opposed to Goku Black's absolutely abysmal chances at figuring out what the infinite-dimensional and retcon-causing Speed Force/Negative Speed Force even is, let alone figuring it out while Reverse-Flash (who is uncountably-times faster and likely many times stronger than Goku Black) is fiercely trying to kill him at the same time.
It's also a matter of limits. GB's paradox state is a lot easier to break than Reverse Flash's. Given that this battle could last indefinitely, at some point, RF would eventually figure out the weakness and exploit it, or simply knock off, damage, or destroy the ring completely by accident. In contrast, Goku Black would likely take much, MUCH longer to figure out how to break RF's paradox state because there is no easy fix like destroying a ring. This matchup is unique in that the Death Battle rule against prep time is kind of circumvented because of how fast-paced this fight would be and how long it could go on.
I really appreciate how Thawne was just portrayed as a troll almost the entire run. Knocked down his tea, stood still just to miss Goku Black’s attack, used a man as a shield, and flipped Goku Black the finger before killing him. Truly amazing.
This episode was great. The "it was me, Barry" the "Why aren't you dead" and of course the callback to the Flash vs Quicksilver fight all made this an amazing episode. But that final killing blow put it over the top.
I love that it was me Barry bit too. Especially when we find out that the reason why Quicksilver landed on the sword of the statue was because reverse-flash put it in his way.
I think my favorite part of this battle is when they showed that it was actually Thawn who killed Quicksilver in the "Flash vs. Quicksilver" battle, further adding to the fact that Thawn really loves messing with Barry's life/timeline.
Yo imagine if thats what reverse flash did....he fucked everything up for Barry saw the newspaper and then goes to Barry's house to tell him what he did before he just dips
I love how crazy he is in this battle. He just sees a future version of himself murder someone and instead of being confused he just choose to laugh with his future self
That, "WHY AREN'T YOU DEAD!?!?!?" was easily the funniest and in most in character thing for them both to say and be genuinely confused about as two time travelers that don't know their enemy's powers. Well done except for the one issue where Zamasu never fused or fused with the universe.
not when he is wearing the ring my guy he is immune to time resets and time warps or anything involving timeline erasement. Fused Zamasu is still Zamasu AND your logic would mean Goku vs Superman is pointless because they use different versions of Superman to explain why he wins all the time. They refuse to use post-crisis superman again because his power scaling is not on par with MUI Goku hence why they used one million superman to fight Goku so if Superman can have different versions so can Zamasu in this case. @@wingedbluj1674
I mean thats what he is. I’d call him a Demi god because he is a regular guy in the wrong timeline, and therefore broke time in a way, thus a living paradox

@@theequalizer694 True. I guess they could change it up by having him do it several times and then integrating his time travel powers to finish the job.
@@Angry_Peanut_52 I think the difference is that the Injustice series probably would never have "fatalities," otherwise Reverse Flash would definitely have a Kabal style finisher. "Its was ME, Barry! I was the one who gave comic writers the idea to constantly make Superman stronger and stronger, ensuring that the entire internet would get pissed off at Death Battle when they made him beat Goku!"
Defeating Superman is a difficult thing to quantify, because no one has managed to battle Superman to his VERY LIMITS (we don't even know if he HAS them). The two beings that have gone toe to toe with Superman (Darkseid and Doomsday) could only go so far as to fight him to STALEMATE, neither of them actually triumphed in those battles. Joker broke Superman's psyche in Injustice, but never had a physical fight. Batman beat Superman, but only using gadgets and kryptonite and not in a blow for blow match. Superman is pretty much a god among mortals, with few weaknesses to be exploited

I think the deciding factor was that Goku Black's immunity to the consequences of time stemmed from a physical object, one that could be removed, whereas Thawne's temporal invulnerability was intertwined with his being.
Technically, everything that Thawne needed to do was just straight up kill Black and that would have been it. The time ring doesn't grant the user any form of immortality. It just gives the user protection against time alterations and time travel. This fight is more of a stomp in Reverse Flash's favor than what people think.
@@mechafenix9348 right... I didn't say he had immortality... but I see how you thought I did. By "Immunity to the Consequences of Time" I didn't mean age, but how if you kill a past version of him the version in the future still exists.

@@mechafenix9348Also multiverse theory. Trunks giving Goku his medicine did not change anything in his future. I believe this is true and that only makes this matchup even a BIGGER stomp imo.
It was me Barry, I went back in time and changed the roster just so you could fight that pathetic weakling Quicksilver, whereas I get to fight a beast like Goku Black. I knew full well you’d kill him easily. Now everyone thinks you’re a bully for picking on the weak Barry.
*Shouldn't there be an infinite number of past versions of Goku Black? Why should destroying the Time Ring even matter?* There's an easy answer to this question. The Time Ring is the user's bypass to the space-time continuum. So if you destroy that bypass than all past versions of Goku Black will eventually reach that point in the timeline where the Ring was destroyed. Anything past that point in time is fair game for Reverse Flash to kill Goku Black. Now some say there has to be an infinite number of alternate Goku Black timelines. And even if that is true, destroying the Time Ring will still affect them. The reason is simple. It's because they ALL have a common factor, namely the Time Ring. Destroy that and you destroy all those timelines attached to it. Ever watched Ben 10 Omniverse? In a two-parter episode, a villain named Vilgax used a Chronosapien Time Bomb to wipe out a key event in Ben Prime's timeline, namely Ben Prime getting the Omnitrix. As a result, all alternate versions of Ben from different timelines, who had an Omnitrix or was involved with the Omnitrix, were unilaterally wiped out as well. The only version of Ben that wasn't wiped out was a version that never got an Omnitrix. As a result, No-Watch Ben had to travel back in time in order to make certain that Ben Prime got the Omnitrix. It's the same principle as the Time Ring. Destroy the Ring and all other versions with the Ring go bye-bye. The only version would be the one who never got a Ring, and that would probably be a version of Zamasu who never took over Goku's body.
@@kamdeoray3573 Just get rid of the Ring. That's all you need to do. Even if Eobard didn't sense time anomalies, he would have taken the ring, just to spite Goku Black.

Because its one of the few battles where only one character had a power up. My guess is that they would have made him hold his transformation if he was going to win with it. Thankfully they occasionally break these rules. Like with The Bison x Shao Kahn battle. Where it seemed like it was going to sway the battle...until...hammer. It was actually an insane unexpected turn, considering how scripted some of these feel.

@@ianr.navahuber2195 _MAYBE,_ but 1) Thawne's durability is high enough that he could probably still survive them. He withstood a punch from Barry when Barry had the _ENTIRE SPEED FORCE_ absorbed into him, and the Speed Force is an infinitely higher-dimensional energy realm that rests above an infinite number of dimensions that themselves lay over the multiverse's infinite universes... so yeah, a soul attack from a foe weaker than that probably won't put him down. 2) Thawne can still just vibrate through his attacks; Thawne can vibrate in such a way that he literally ascends to higher dimensions and causing attacks from the regular 3D realm to phase through him (just like Wally did when he ascended his vibrational patterns to affect aliens from much higher dimensions immune to 3D physics). Goku Black may be a deity, but he's still limited to the normal 3D realm and affect higher dimensions like Thawne can head to. 3) Even _IF_ Goku Black had soul attacks that could do it, he would still have to... y'know... _hit_ Thawne first... yeah, no, good luck to Black considering Reverse-Flash is at least trillions upon trillions upon trillions of times faster (scaling to Wally who has _a BUNCH_ of feats of moving literally _infinitely_ fast). To anyone complaining that Thawne finding out the ring was stupid, TV Tropes is here to explain Observe how Reverse-Flash kills Goku Black. It really shows Eobard's Awesomeness by Analysis. First, Thawne tries an enhanced punch on Goku Black, but he survives somehow, possibly due to the Negative Speed Force. Next, Thawne impales him with his speed, and Black still lives, hinting at a potent Healing Factor. Thawne resorts to atomization for a third attempt to prevent healing, but Black miraculously survives again, revealing his paradoxical nature. Thawne deduces the source of this paradox from a scene where Black kills his past self, realizing it's the time ring. He decides to remove it, quickly swallows the ring during a struggle, and destroys it. With the paradox powers gone, Thawne finally defeats Black. Credits to AlicornGaia
Also, Thawne would figure out that the ring is benefiting Black in some way. He lives in a verse where there are people who get their powers from rings.
“Excuse me, but I require your services” Hey, at least he said it nicely before doing it, instead of just like “I’mma use you as a meat shield, caphice?”

17:45 - Well, this will be a one-of-a-kind moment in Death Battle history. Both fighters actually die (in a 4th-dimensional manner) and the fight still goes on.
I knew the outcome as soon as they said that Reverse Flash's paradoxical abilities are inherent to his being while Goku Black's paradoxical power comes from a physical thing he has to wear. Both of the combatants are anomalies but one has to rely on an object to achieve that power.
The thing is black isn’t an anomaly, the ring doesn't work like that, just grant protection from time-altering event to his past self, he is still vulnerable in present hence why there is no special plan for him other than simply kill him compared to his other counterpart where they planned to seal him since they couldn’t get rid of him due to his immortality.
Its obvious That Barry is horny for searching Rule34 of Lola bunny as that and Thawned immediately stop barry for being horny and stop him being furry aswell

@@baseformrolf6710 It's not the originality, it's the delivery and what he does to Black afterward that sells it.
Sigh "I gonna feed you your own heart"
Everyone knows the real reason RF started the fight wasn't because of the destruction Goku Black caused, it was because Goku Black interrupted his "It was me Barry!" monologue. Destroy the planet, or even the universe. Whatever, Thawne will just go to another timeline. The monologue though, that's irreplaceable, and it's interruption is just unforgiveable.
It’s just downright rude to interrupt someone. Goku Black should know better.
"It was me, Barry. I tampered with Ben's Omnitrix so it wouldn't activate its safety protocol which would eventually lead to Green Lantern winning and inviting you to his victory party in the watch tower which gave me enough time to kill Iris."
After seeing the crazy nonsense that DC characters do, THAT is where you draw the line...
@@zackmakedonsky425 yeah Hal nearly caused a rupture in the speed force. He also outspeed the big bang too.
Seems like something Eobard would do
The fact that people are revisiting the "It was me Barry" meme for previous Death Battles is - in a strange way - pretty amusing.
@@mrreyes5004 something gives me the feeling this was a stomp in every single way
It's also a matter of limits.
The ring doesn't do anything except allow Goku black to travel back time or future.

Zamasu and reverse flash: “WHY ARENT YOU DEAD?!” That was the best bit of the fight
The all moment where they kill each other at different point in time was just hilarious.
My fav part
You know what that is very funny. Best line ever.
Same
Yeah
Thawnes whole bio was one if not the best produced introduction of a character in death battle. The amount of scans, the backstory, the reactions to how monstrous his acts were, the motion comic bits, effects, editing and narrative flow were all on point
Getting shot at with energy blasts is "no reason"? Tf lol
right
Yeah, plus it really made me despise a character that I already knew was a psychotic monster
I come back to this fight for just this at times
Dont you mean... on FLASH point?
*“I’ll end this fight before it even began. DEATH IN REVERSE!”*
Hands down my favorite like in this episode
"WHY AREN'T YOU DEAD?!" -the real best line
*"Time huh? Thanks for the-wait a damn minute."*
Thawne's a big fan of Reverse puns and such whenever he can find a place to use them. Lines like "Iv created a legacy hundreds of years before im even born.. it's backwards.. it's in REVERSE!" during his first teamup with Hunter Zolomon. when he breaks into the Batcave Batman: "Of all people Flash I didn't expect You to be early" Thawne: "Flash? No. QUITE THE REVERSE ACTUALLY" and such.
@@thewalrus45 I love how Thawne's sheer eccentrcitiy and bizarre-ness lets him fit right in with overpowered anime characters like Goku Black XD Idk but their interactions here felt genuinely natural, as if Thawne was somehow perfectly transferred to the DBS multiverse while retaining his paradoxical existence and connection to the Negative Speed Force.
*“Empty threats to a living paradox.”*
That was a sick line.
@@scaIawag *Right... I didn't say he had immortality... but I see how you thought I did*
I did thought you meant that when you said "the deciding factor was the time ring". Sorry for the misunderstanding.
*By "Immunity to the Consequences of Time" I didn't mean age, but how if you kill a past version of him the version in the future still exists.*
That's why I said one of the abilities of the ring is protection against "time alterations".
@@mechafenix9348Also multiverse theory. Trunks giving Goku his medicine did not change anything in his future.
In fact from the moment Trunks went to the past, he went to a past that is not tied to his. The past where in Goku dies, the z warriors die by the androids and Gohan is his mentor.
I believe this is true and that only makes this matchup even a BIGGER stomp imo.
only way goku black had a chance is if he became infinite zamasu who would be immortal and have a time ring
It was me Barry, I went back in time and changed the roster just so you could fight that pathetic weakling Quicksilver, whereas I get to fight a beast like Goku Black. I knew full well you’d kill him easily. Now everyone thinks you’re a bully for picking on the weak Barry.

That’s why the flash could easily stop him 🤣
and dont forget absurd over poweredness
And obsession with the flash
@@Joracle It was me Barry
*Shouldn't there be an infinite number of past versions of Goku Black? Why should destroying the Time Ring even matter?*
There's an easy answer to this question.
Look I'm not saying this is wrong but...
It doesn't work that way in the db universe?
@@kamdeoray3573 Just get rid of the Ring. That's all you need to do. Even if Eobard didn't sense time anomalies, he would have taken the ring, just to spite Goku Black.
Refreshing. An episode where the “first to power up” didn’t give away the winner to me. It was just a crazy speed battle that was chaos and I couldn’t keep up!!! Awesome.
That’s happened in a ton of episodes. Even including ones this season
This is a joke but, it doesn’t help when the only one who can transform is the one to lose.
Any up for my picks for further death battles?

Yup. Both are near god-like... but entities who control creation and destruction are par for the course for cosmic and ascendant beings seen in DC like Green Lantern, Darkseid, Shazam and of course, Reverse-Flash.
What happens when a being who took shortcuts to bring order into existence goes against an entity who _earned_ their status as a _living glitch_ in existence? Well... *_this._*

@@m.a.dmatt6689 Is a better way to describe than than his "the pest that can't die"
Goku Black would be firing off soul attacks in a bullet hell hail, and Reverse-Flash would simply dance around them like Quicksilver in that X-Men scene or like Sonic in his recent movie in that missile scene.

To anyone complaining that Thawne finding out the ring was stupid, TV Tropes is here to explain
Observe how Reverse-Flash kills Goku Black.
