    Many of you already know my history with the Hoka One One Clifton. I've loved some versions, I've disliked others. It wasn't until the Clifton 6 that I started to feel some of the love again. Now with the Clifton 7, we're seeing a lot of what we loved from the Clifton 6 carried over. But, does the Clifton 7 go the way of almost every version before it and fail to impress or does it provide as comfortable of a running experience as its predecessor? Let's find out!

      Not a bad call - I'll def be looking at the 6 price after the 7 drops. The 6 is fantastic. But, I do love the tab like on my ultraboosts.
      I think I'll get the 7 after they've released additional sets of colorways. That yellow/gray/black 6 that came out later is so sharp

      I’m disappointed if it’s as heavy as the Clifton 6. The Clifton 6 is not breathable and airy. I hope he means the upper mesh and tongue are lighter and MORE breathable. I love the fit of Clifton, but it gets bulkier every time which I don’t like. Rincon is nice and airy

    • @Majik260
      @Majik260 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisl3856 what is the difference between the two? I was first looking into the rincon 2's because they are lighter but the clifton 7 look like they breath air more better but have more weight.

    • @JohnSmith-tk2bx

      Spectra260 so I have both, I typically use my rincons for tempo/longer speed runs. Track work and speed work is reserved for my sketchers gomeb and I use the cliftons for my longer runs/easy paces. I have used the rincons for a 16miler but my feet were pretty sore by around mile 12. Rincons are very lightweight and great for tempos, however if you were to just have one shoe Clifton is more bang for your buck. Lasts longer(more outsole) “softer” so less feet soreness/impact, and a little more comfortable

    • @ZenDao_85

    The main issue I've had with my Clifton 6's is the sole durability - the grip wore away really quickly and this is allegedly quite common
    Didn't have this issue with my Brooks Glycerins

    Bought my last three pairs of shoes based on Ginger Runner reviews. Been more than happy with all; Brooks Caldera 2 - hammered the hell out of those babies, Clfton 6 - made going running a whole new experience for me and Hoka ATR5 just works for me on the trails. So yeah relieved they didn't change too much because I will definitely buy Cliftons again. Thanks & Keep'em coming Ethan.

    I started with the Clifton 2s, and have run in machs, hupanas, challenger atrs, & now elevons. My favorite though is the Clifton 3s. They were one of the best shoes ever (even better than Brooks Ghost 6)! I still have two pairs; both with over 1000 miles on them. Neither have much use for running other than supersoft trails or the beach. I switched to Napali because the 4s were so bad. Came back for the 5s, even bought a pair of knit 5s which have outlasted the regular 5. The 6s has been superb thus far. Looking forward to snagging a few more 6s when they go on sale. Can't wait to try the 7.

      I got really lucky on colorways - I'm grabbing the red/yellow for KC Chiefs gear lol. But I do like the colorways on the 6 more. I've got the gray w/ yellow sole - they're sharp.
      The 6 had a great second round of colorways release later on. I'm sure we'll see the same with the 7 eventually.

The problem is that when I went back months later to buy another pair, it didn't give me that first-impression cush that the first pair did. I was so sad that I couldn't reproduce the really soft cushioned feel of my original pair. Lot-to-lot variation I guess.

    Today I received the Clifton 7 in the Seattle Seahawks colorway. In my opinion, the fit is different. I compared it to the C6 that I tested last year and the toebox is narrower and lower in the new version. It's a minor change but very noticeable. In the 6 one could wear any pair of running socks whereas in the new one socks need to be thin. I think that one should go up 1/4 size if it was possible because the shoe has a little bit less volume. It's not a dealbreaker but C6 was more comfortable in that area. I hate shoes where my feet are moving around because of too much space. Therefore I am not going up ½ size but this is close to being too small. I liked the old fit in Hokas more than what they have in newer shoes in their lineup.

    Favorite Clifton 2 and 3 bought every pair I could find. Then I ran Napali's until they discontinued them. Clifton 4/5/6 all too narrow in midfoot and the new upper did not give me a locked in feeling. I like running up and down hill. The upper mesh bags out too easily. The cushion has been gone since the 3. For trail I really miss the Challenger ATR 2 but not the rubber sole peeling off issues I experienced. Speedgoat 2 still my favorite long distance offroad shoe. I still have one mint pair left in my quiver.

    I wish minor iterations could simply fold into the previous model rather than signify a completely new product that is effectively identical. At it's core, it is a predatory business practice that relies on the lack of consumer education to maintain artificial relevance. Ooh, a 7? That's obviously newer and better than the 6 - I want that.

    I had the 6. Had to return them because they were too narrow in the mid foot. The top of the arch of the sock liner was cutting into my arch. I loved everything else about them. I wish it was just a tad bit wider in the mid foot. That’s just a personal fit issue though. Solid shoe otherwise.

    Great review! Hoka are known for the pull tabs. Its distinctive. It’s like a Nike without the Swoosh!?) That’s is a few new models now without tabs (RocketX, Clifton7, Torrent2 etc) not sure I like the design direction, apart from the Hopara. Man I’m rocking that in Blue/Orange. So many great shoes these days from everyone.

    I've only tried Clifton 5 from Hoka. My arch on both feet cut up badly 5km into each run. I started doubling up on socks for s few weeks but it didn't stop the cutting up of the feet. After a few weeks I retired them. I wouldnt take another 100 pound punt on a Hoka shoe after that.

    I got the Clifton 5 as my first Hoka shoes. It was a very bizarre pair of shoes for me. The first 300 km were quite smooth and cushy. Then it feels like the midsole was dying, every step my feet are sinking in. But after the 500 km mark, the midsole just revived again lol

    Really enjoy your informative videos. I have been a devotee of Skechers brand running shoes. I own a pair of Forza 4 hypers. I love Skechers. However, Skechers top cushion shoes seems to have lots of issues and Hoka has a reputation of being the King of Cushion shoes. I'm a Clydesdale. Soooo, I just sent away for a pair of the Clifton 7's . They arrive this Friday. Looking for good things. (Psssst, don't rat me out to Skechers!)

    I've used Clifton since Clifton3 to Clifton6 and my favorite is Clifton6, the worst was Clifton5. My 6 pair has almost 1000 kms and still feeling good! I want to reach those 1000 so I can start using my new pair of 6!
    While watching the video I was also thinking on when the Clifton6 was going to be out on sale to get a couple of new pairs!

      @@kevinratcliffe1717 I totally agree, my Clifton5 pair has less than 100 Kms, I wouldn't use them again for running, only for walking or travelling. Give Clifton6 a try, you will feel the enormous difference in the first steps.

  • @pj8761
    @pj8761 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Based on what I heard about this shoe update being so minor, I saw this new Clifton as a why. After your review of this shoe, I'm actually considering it as a solid try. In your humble GR opinion, you felt the upper allowed you a better lockdown, and felt the midsole was slightly more responsive. Those were my 2 issues with the Clifton 6. I found the upper to be a bit sloppy and I had to really sinch the laces down. I also felt like the midsole was a little too soft and marshmallowy for my taste. The black colorway was one of my favorite looking shoes last year. (The current white color you reviewed looks hideous to me). I will be trying the new Clifton's as soon as the warehouse of running has them in stock !...But it's not all express 2 day shipping and free returns over at RW ! What happened to the RW promo codes ?
