- This is a quick and easy way to fix the slow start issues Camaros seem to have after the engine has warmed up.
A quick 5 minute job with a simple ground cable is all that is needed to make this car start everytime.

THANKS A LOT FOR THIS QUICK AND PERFECT VIDEO!
Glad it helped!
Good stuff! I don’t even have my 2016 SS any longer, but this was always a problem for me. Such an easy fix. Wish I still had it to try this out.
Definitely with the easy fix to avoid the frustration.
Helpful vid. just added the wire and the car started up better. I'm also not seeing the "Service ESC" message when I turn on the car, I've heard that message can be due to electrical issues
Glad it helped.
Would’ve been nice to mention that the serpentine belt would come loose, for help of other followers use a breaker bar with the 15mm socket turning clockwise to lower the tensioner down in order to slip the belt back into place then your all good 👍🏾 thanks for the video just needed a bit more detail also thanks for the product link for cable 🙏🏾
The serpentine belt won’t come loose if you don’t take off the tensioner. I only cracked the bolt loose enough to slip the ‘C’ style of ring terminal over the bolt and cranked it down.
The ground location on the front frame rail, I did remove completely to add the ‘O’ style of ring terminal.
😅
Going try it now ✅ tied of the slow crank it’s only getting slower and my voltage is not normal intermittently
The added ground cable is all that you need.
Spot on my guy I’m in the positive from that extra negative ✅
Clutch video! Definitely going to try this on my 2SS #NewSubEarned
Awesome! Thank you!
Did it work
@@ReneHernandez-cd4pk my bad bro. It does help. Occasionally it will still turnover slow but it’s not as often as it used to be. The other day it turned over before I could lift my finger off start. For $5 and 10 minutes of time why not
Hey man silly question. Im about to do this on my 2016 SS, but im not sure where to find a ground cable with the "C connection" you mentioned in another comment. Does the cable you linked come that way, or did you cut it? It looks like they have "O" connections on both ends, and i dont feel like messing with the tensioner too much, if i can avoid it!
I cut the “O” style end with a cutting plier to create the C shape. You can also buy them already with the Cshape end.
I did not remove the tensioner. Only slid the C style end over the loosened bolt and tightened. On the frame rail side, I did loosen it all the way to put the O style end over that
@Saldalaperformance I appreciate the helping hand and the very useful video. Finally a solution, you're great, man!
I can’t find any 10 gauge ground cable. Will 4 gauge work
That’s the link u provided
Yeah as long as it’s 12-10 gauge or below.
Where did you get the ground cable at bro my camaro SS is doing this too
Amazon. Just look for 2-3 ft worth.
I posted a link in the description.
Did you ever upload a video showing the end results ? “Fast start “
It just starts normal. No slow start.
But I track the car both autocross and roadcourse and have had to repeatedly turn off and on the car in the pits while the car is still hot and no issues.
This fixes the problem for most people.
@@Saldalaperformance thanks I’m about to go grab a ground now and try it
Do you have to remove the tensioner bolt completely? Any issues/concerns or tips for someone not as mechanically inclined as you?
No. Do not remove the tensioner completely. Just break it loose and slide the ‘C’ style of connector around the bolt. Then tighten it down to secure it.
The ground post you can remove completely.
Removing the tensioner completely would make your serpentine belt loosen up to the point where it falls off the pulleys. so you don’t want to do that.
Does anyones Camaro SS die and shut off after driving for awhile and see their battery volt dropping? I’m having this issue and trying to find the problem. Battery and alternator tested good.
Never heard of it dying after driving. Normally it’s just the warm start issues.
Would you do it in the same place on a 15 5th gen?
Not sure about the 5th gen. Sorry.
Got The Link For The Ground Cable Bro?
I’ll add the Amazon link to the description but realistically any 2-3 foot ground cable should do the job.
Thank You For That🤝🏼
I added the cable but im still having the problem.
It’s more common on the 16-18 model. But it’s normally the fix for most of us.
Yes, I have a 2016 and it’s getting really bad now. I’m not sure what to do about it. Maybe a different starter?
I’ve heard from 2016-2018, people using multiple solutions and it still happens.
If I had to guess, I would say, add the ground cable, add heat shielding material to the starter shroud. Maybe even some air flow mods to get better air movement in the engine bay.
I have added 2 ground cables one in the engine bay and one in the trunk. I think I’ll have to add some more starter heat shield wrap or maybe a starter blanket now.
Do you know why 2019+ don’t have the issue like the 16-18s?
Can anyone confirm fix!?
It’s worked on multiple cars in my neck of the woods. Positive responses on the Camaro6 forums too
I did that. It didnt work.
Your the first that has mentioned it didn’t work. It’s worked for hundreds of cars on the forums and a few guys I personally know.
Check the ground to make sure it’s making adequate contact.
This is bs. because I've done all this and it still does it
This has solved the issue for a lot of us. Not sure why you and one other have had the same issue and this didn’t work.
I had to take it to the dealer and they replaced the starter and laughed at me over your ground wire it's just a Band-Aid it doesn't fix the issue it comes back
That’s awesome how the dealer who sells you the faulty car laughs. The ground issue is so well known that zl1 addons and other companies already make ground kits for this same issue. Also take note that replacing the starter is something many people do and still struggle with this issue. It’s an electrical problem with heat soak. It’s well known.
I’ve also never had the issue ever since adding the ground wire and I autocross and track my car and turn it off and on in the pits with no issues along with countless others on camaro6 and Facebook forums alike that have resolved their issue with this. The dealer technicians don’t get any special training. Don’t think they are superior to anyone.
