    Natural wins by a stop at ISO 3200. V-Log L is useable to 1600. My experience has been that V-Log L is better in recovering highlights and dynamic range in well lit settings - not so well in low light shadows. Thank you for the excellent comparison.

    For me if I will go over 800 iso, better use natural but overall it’s not that bad.

    Up to ISO 6400 looks great! Did you try this with NR set to -5 or was it set to default in the profiles?

    • @carlscinema7086
      @carlscinema7086  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sharpness at -5, everything else at default (including NR)

      @@carlscinema7086 looks like 0nr is the way to go in non-log profiles then! For v-log -5 sounds best for better nr in a video editor

    Great test, up to iso 1600 is usable no doubt, in some condition could go to iso3200 as well, if really needed, because it is still quite decent...

      and would add that Natural looks better than v-log! lol.

      For me 1600 is good. 3200 is too much.

    To be honest, iso 3200 does not look to bad. People always say 0 noise reduction is not good since it smudges the details but I mostly will shoot people so that ok. I will try -1 noise reduction and see how it goes. It is not too bad at all

    • @carlscinema7086
      @carlscinema7086  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't typically shoot with NR at 0 (generally keep it pretty low) but i wanted it to be at the default for these tests. Did some tests for the in-camera noise reduction aswell, for an upcoming video.

    • @lovefirst6157
      @lovefirst6157 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@carlscinema7086 yeah I usually keep noise reduction at -3. I find it is a nice compromise of getting a little noise reduction but not too much. It is same with sharpness.

      Looking at your tests, 3200 look acceptable. I am still getting used to my GH5 at the mo, and I am quite happy with the image quality, though still getting settings tweaked.

    Hi Carl, great videos and I just switched my a6400 for the GH5, I can use the same lenses as my ogbmpcc and I believe it has more similar color profile. Would you recommend buying the V-Log L. The natural profile seams easy and fast to grade. I went from using S-Log3 to using Cine4 more and more on the Sony because of the easy grading, but I reaaly want to test the V-Log but for 100 usd I hesitate.

    • @lovefirst6157
      @lovefirst6157 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vlog L does not really improve dynamic range like slog 2 or 3, it pretty much just makes your footage flatter to allow more grading. The highlights are harsh and shadows improve a little bit.

  • @wolfsoto

    I shot a video with Panasonic GH5s in Native ISO 400 F5.6 180 degree using Cine D with 2 bright LED's my picture should be clean instead I got noise in the shadows and some shades of colors

    • @carlscinema7086
      @carlscinema7086  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The level of noise really depends on the amount of light reaching the sensor. So if your image is underexposed there will be some noise, even if its at 400. And even if the image is properly exposed there will always be some level of noise, mostly in the shadows. It wont be 100% noise free.

      @@carlscinema7086 Hi happy new year,
      Yeah definitely best music for test love smooth jazz...nice test I own myself 2 Bmpcc4k,Gh4,5,5s.
      Shooting mostly video production of classical concerts and classical chamber music, I am violinist and Soundingenieur in classical music. Just got to video production coming from audio.
      To my experience shooting indoor lowlight conceet up to 3200 iso with Gh5,10000 with GH5s,in vlog and 6400 iso with Bmpcc4k it is working really fine with neat noise reduction or resolve if you have a good computer(neat is faster with dual GPU) and if you shoot all intra it is as well better..
      Happy new year

    somebody posted that on a gh5 you need to overexpose 1 stop in Vlog to get less noise when graded

    • @carlscinema7086
      @carlscinema7086  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a video on that aswell ;) I wouldn't say you need to, you sacrifice dynamic range in the highlights when doing so. But it will give you cleaner shadows. If I can control the highlights I typically overexpose by a stop.

    • @jankla4419

      Its called 'ettr', exposed to the right. It means, that you expose in a way, that the histogramm shows the exposure as right as possible, but without clipping. You bring it back to a normal level in post. Bridge pixels have more information and less noise than dark ones, so it makes sense, but as I said, you have to be careful, that theres no clipping, these pixels have no more information.
