    Great tips. What color profile are you shooting this video?

    • @JonBear

      Thanks for watching! The talking part is just Natural with the GH5. The night shots are filmed in HLG with leeming lut and some slight retouching. I don't recommend it as it's extra work and Natural usually looks fantastic. I use mostly Natural now

    hello i need some advice. I rlly wanna shoot low light but i find that panasonics cameras are absolutely amazing (except for auto focus) i currently use a g7 but am highly considering gh5, but i wanna shoot low light. should i look into a full frame? my budget is about 1400 dolars. ive looked into the panasonic s lineup but i feel that the mount has only new lenses and those r picey af so thats a no go. what do u think i should do?

    Hey Jon! I know this videos more on the older side but I'm heading to Japan and was thinking to bring my GH5 there. You convinced me to grab the Sigma 18-35 and I noticed some of your clips in this video were shot in Japan. I've always shot in Natural and i've gotten good/bad footage but I want to get the most out of my camera. I had a few questions if you don't mind!
    1. Do you remember what profile setting you shot in? And do you recommend one for Japan specifically day/night time?
    2. I want to shoot in VLOG for colors but I hear it's not so great for low light situations.
    3. If I do shoot in VLOG i planned on using 4k24 10bit and 4k60 8bit but I hear VLOG doesnt really well with 8bit and so I was thinking to use Cine-D or Nat for the 8bit shots. Is that too much trouble for color correction to match shots? I am not a colorist in anyway lol.
    Thanks for the gh5 tips!

      Thanks for the comment! I usually go with CineD and the shots here are CineD. that said, if you're not used to coloring CineD may be a hassle, but it is by far the best for low light. However with the sigma lens, low light shouldn't be an issue. Just find some cined coloring tutorials on youtube. Good luck!

      @@ChessBoxin I lower sharpness to minus 5, and lower saturation to minus 2. That's basically it.
      For color grading I use the GHAlex conversion method that i mention in this video th-cam.com/video/vNfXqBB57ao/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CdZafVuMvUwSIONY

    Hi Jon, These days I find myself in NYC comedy clubs where the room is dim and the stage harshly lit with my gh5. I'm in the far back of the room and zoom in to fully on my 12 to 60 pano lecia. People say don't shoot in Vlog in low light. Do you agree. I have a hard time getting the image bright enough. My question is.. I use a tweaked version of CINED .. a lot of people say use Natural but when I put natural on the view finder gets considerable darker. What is your advice please? I try not to go above 800 but you said 12 is ok. I suppose that would help considerable.

    • @JonBear
      @JonBear  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, Thank you for your question.
      Yes CineD is preferred for low light.
      You need a considerably faster lens I would say. You could go extreme and get a speedbooster amzn.to/3MwDH1o paired with sigma 50-100 f1.8 amzn.to/35ZFBXy
      This will allow you to zoom far, and still have a fast apurture of f1.8 which will give you incredible low light results.

    • @sutv6754
      @sutv6754 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JonBear OK yes I've often though about a speed booster down the road. That's a good and cheap the one you suggested. If you don't mind another question . If I did get those 2 that you recommend would the 50 to 100 be only 100mm. I zoon all the way on my 12 to 60 which is 120mm equivalent zoomed in. that's barely cutting it. It's a big room and I'm in the back. Thank Jon for the help. Really. Tom

    • @JonBear
      @JonBear  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sutv6754 It should be sufficient yes. Because the conversion is 100mm x0.71 (speedbooster) x 2 (crop) = 142mm max zoom.
      If you don't think that's enough then I can recommend the sigma 50-150 f2.8 OS.
      It isn't as fast, but gives you extra zoom. It's not being produced though so you need to hunt it on ebay, and you would need the OS version which is rare-and pricier than the regular 50-150

    Does the sigma 50 100 because a 35 to 70 in terms of m43?

    • @JonBear
      @JonBear  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      50 on M43 is 100 equivalent yes and 35 on m43 is 70 equivalent

  • @Random-yz8gb

    I am confused with the 180 degree rule. I put my gh5 on aingle/iso. And always shoot at 60 fps and put the shutter angle at 360D because it's the brightest, why should I make it 120 instead?

    • @JonBear
      @JonBear  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes 360 is brighter but it means the shutter stays open for a whole frame. This means that anything moving in the shot will have a trail - and if you shoot handheld the image will be blurry
      180 is considered the best and most natural n terms of motion blur and sharpness

    • @Random-yz8gb
      @Random-yz8gb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JonBear ok thanks that helps alot, Ig 360 is good for super low light if I am not moving

    Tongueson … hmmmm I don’t see that WB settings on the GH5

    • @JonBear
      @JonBear  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's on the top of the camera. A small W/B button which will pop up on the screen some settings. You can scroll between the presets, then you can also set your own. Pro-tip I like to add a little magenta into my footage - set it to 2.
      For daytime I use 5600 - and I use that 90% of the time
