I used those same MD mount Rokkors for all my GH2 videos as well as the Canon FDs. Love the look they gave. Haven't even tried them once on the GH5. May have to try one of these days.

So I bought a used GH5 and am watching at a lot of tutorials, and I love how clear and simple your instructions are! Can't wait to use that Live Crop feature for some epic B-Rolls! Thanks for free luts and can't wait to shoot in that Natural Profile you recommended. Haha
I heard about 4K Live Crop but it took a while for me to try it but it is everything you say. I use it regularly when filming wildlife and it really makes a nice shot. One tip I learned though is that if you are shooting from a tripod when you hit the record button on the camera it can introduce a little bit of camera shake for a few moments which is amplified with the 4K crop. I haven't tried setting a shutter release delay yet or even if that's possible. I just use the camera app on my phone to start recording and I even use it to set up the start/stop points on the 4K Live crop. I'm gonna try the focus transition feature next. Thanks for the all the great tips and videos. You are definitely my go to source for all things GH5 since I got it a few months ago. What a great great camera.
Great video man! Someone on the GH5 FB page pointed me to one of your videos and I subscribed! Yeah, good stuff! I had to shoot a bunch of video in bright sun this weekend on my Weebill Lab gimbal. It comes with a cell phone mount that I haven't used. Half the time I couldn't see the screen (I wish it wouldn't dim automatically...) Could I use the image app on my phone to get a brighter live image? I know it's not a high res app, but I wonder if it would be brighter? I had forgotten about the 4K crop feature. Never used it or the focus pulling. I need to spend some time using those. Do you get a 1080 video from 4K crop?
yeah it's a 1080 video but still looks really good. i actually hate the dimming feature on the screen. the image app might help a bit but in bright sunlight it's just overall going to be hard to see unless you're using like a 3k to 5k nit monitor screen. which if you're doing a lot of shooting like that, you might want to look into one of those. thanks for reaching out!

It is tough to say what my favorite feature is but I would have to say...since this was literally my first camera ever the focus peaking has taught me to never have to use autofocus. It has helped me immensely when it comes to learning how to master manual focus. I know it is not this crazy uncommon feature for a camera but it has been wonderful for this newbie. I would say that if anyone can afford this is the best camera to get started on. I was fortunate enough to receive a grant in order to purchase all of my equipment.
I love it too. I'm basically a noob when it comes to manual focus. I was always scared of it, for whatever reason. I guess I didn't trust that my eyes were good enough. But peaking really takes the doubt and guesswork out of it.
The way you explain things on your many GH5 videos is great.. It makes us think you don't really need any of the latest (sometimes overhyped) cameras. Gh5 and Gh5s will get any photo or video job done. Just improve lighting technique a bit like a real pro should. Thanks.

@@CalebHoover Thanks for the reply! I got it to work! So, when I have my Record Quality on 4k with VFR available, my autofocus will not work (manual only). However, when I switch to 4k without VFR, it works. I was able to set my Focus Transition, and it worked great! Thanks! I had a Viltrox speed booster and a Tokina lens on when I got it to work. I'm sure it will work with my Sigma too.
Hey buddy, I have been watching your channel for some time now, you are doing a good job with your videos. I have 2 questions about the gh5 since I Vaught one literally a few weeks ago with the Leica 12-60mm lens. First question is about solo filming myself I slow motion walking towards and camera and walking away from the camera. I know auto focus is not good I was wondering how to make that work best? Second question is about photography with gh5 I tried to take a solo picture of myself using the Panasonic app on my iphone, I was trying to make a black invisible background and shine light upon my face to get a black invisible backdrop type effect but the pictures of the "black" were super grainy, I was wondering if you can make a video on how to do that, that would be really awesome if you could.
thanks for checking out the vids! yeah autofocus is a doozy. i would probably use single space right in the middle. but i don't think autofocus works with variable framerate. To answer your other question, I actually don't do any photography with the GH5, only video. But the only thing I can think that might be making it grainy might be the iso is too high.
You fellas know if there is a way to lock it at 180 degrees? I've had a few random instances where I've hit my control wheel and changed it not knowing. Any suggestions?
Focus Transition is a nice feature but it is not enabled on my GH5. Is this feature works with native lens only? I am using Sigma 18-35 with speed booster, I cant use the feature. thanks
Love everything but your explanation of the 4K live crop. Live crop functions more as a pan effect than a slider. You still get much different results with an actual sliding motion. No kind of software manipulation can recreate that motion.

does your lens have electronics or is it all manual. i found native lenses work best with focus transition.

yes i shoot in 4K 24p for talking head or real time b-roll. but i use 4K 60p or HD 120p for other type of b-roll
The favorite feature has to be the 180 degrees. Means I never have to worry about setting shutter speed when I switch my frame rate

yeah i think a native lens is the way to go. also, make sure variable frame rate is turned off.
