- After riding the Monster for a weekend, I think I have a pretty good idea of the in's and out's of the machine. I've broken it down into multiple sections.

Bought the last 2014 my local dealer had in stock about 18 months ago...best bike I have ever owned...and that is saying a lot...nice review.

Excellent review, thanks for doing it. I am purchasing a 2015 in Thailand with 5,000 KM on it. The guy put a butt-load of accessories on the bike including front and rear storage. Great price too.
Just bought a 2015, I pick it up Friday! cant wait!

I love my 796, first bike.. it handled well in rain pretty well from all the horror stories I've heard.

Is this bike comfortable on the highways at 80-90 mph? I'm looking for something to replace my ninja 300 that I can ride on the Garden state parkway to school while still having fun in the twisties.

I bought a 795 2014(no single sided swingarm but otherwise identical) and I have done 34000 kilometers without the bike even as much as having a hiccup. You forgot to mention the phenomenal brakes. I don't think any other bike in this class has such brakes. I have done so much long distance touring on it. Simply terrific. anyone touring on it?

Genji Boi I certainly hope that they keep the essence of what made this one great! Guess the only way to know for sure is to ride it
I would go with the 796 over the 797, the 797 is actually underpowered. Its got less power than the old 696. Save yourself a bit of money, get a little bit more powerful a bike. And one that looks better IMO with the dual underseat exhausts.
How’s reliability? I’ve been saving for two years and about to spend all of my savings on a 2011 796.. I love the bike 100% but worried about Using it as my Dailey driver to work/grocery getter.. supposed to be buying a station wagon lol.
I remember that was my dream bike back in 2008, the 696. i tested it after in 2012 but i was un experienced with sportiness, just rode a 107 cc bike since 2007 then an harley Davidson 883 i owned not long time before that test. I just remember i was too much feeling the front of the bike, have this impression to be sit on a hill looking down side... but, tht was my first bike after a big accident also... so no great impressions, but after 2 sv's 650s and years and miles on them. I shall return to that. Because right know im in love with agressive position, stick to the front wheel. This is the comfort of stability and the feel of the road. I was looking for a hornet but i saw theses ones with abs not so costly ( of course more than an used 600 hornet ) i should really re test that bike a least. And i came from harley and twin so the engin is like home , nice review !

Well, I didn't ride over the Golden Gate in this video, but if you mean after I left Fort Point (where I did the walk around), then that was Grizzly Peak in Berkeley.
is the bike reliable?
Too bad you have all those warnings stickers on the frame in the states. We dont need them in Europe, and it looks much cleaner I think.

Just the basics. But you just KNOW that they are there because someone did it and then tried to sue.

I heated them up....removed easily, and stuck them under the seat. So much cleaner.
I came away with the impression you liked the 796 more than the 821. Is that the case? Would be nice to hear your thoughts on that and how you came to whatever conclusion you came to. Thanks.
Thomas Adamo that's correct. I liked riding the 796 more. The 821 is very powerful, but a bit uncomfortable to ride and the extra electronics weren't amazing enough for me to care. The 796 had less going on and was a better balanced bike. It fit me well and aside from the power difference, was better in my opinion in every category: handling, suspension, looks, cost to own, and comfort. It shocked me that an older cheaper bike was everything I wanted from a Ducati monster

If you're trying to open the throtle on 6th gear and its giving you the low rev rumble, that means you're too slow and you speed doesn't match the gear speed requirement.
what would you rather recommend, the 796 2012 or a bmw F800r 2013 ?
Considering I've only ridden the 796, I guess I have to recommend that one....

Not dead! Just not able to ride right now because of circumstances..... I didn't want this to be a channel without any riding.

Steve Logen I can't answer the first two questions reliably because I didn't have a lot of time with it, but it is GREAT for maneuvering around cars. (answered with alt account)
My 796 Cruses quite fine in sixth gear at 156 kmph..... ps get the Turmagoni Exhaust...... AND GET RID OF THOSE BUNNY RABBIT MIRRORS!!!!
I hate helmet Cam reviews. I dont want to just hear your opinion man. Good info but I'd rather you show me through the bike as you talk about it.
