The maintenance on Ducatis have gotten so much better over the years. I own a 2009 Monster 1100m. Love the bike and it looks brand new. Yes it’s different from a Japanese bike but there is nothing that comes close to a Italian made Ducati. The sound and the look is all quality. It helps if you know how to work on the bike like oil changes, brake fluids , spark plugs your easy maintenance things because they are expensive to take to a Ducati dealership for maintenance..I wouldn’t trade the bike for anything. The looks are priceless.😊
reasons why not to like the bike: 1. Expensive maintenance: true. 2. Turnradius: no problem, bike was made for the roads not the garage 3. ingnition hitting the tank: doesn't happen in original state. I guess wrong handle bare, mal adjustet steering stops 4. batterie location: terrible, get a quick connect charger reasons to like bike: it's a ducati. and on top its the last real ducati with aircooled enginge without flap control exhaust. and of course for the engine, sound, weight, handling, posture.
That explains why my legs get unbearable heat. Worst bike I have ever ridden. Bad circle turn, uncomfortable, narrow hand grips. Too small, exhaust heat terrible. After one hour you have to stop. Rear wheel loses grip to easily.
I had a 2005 S2R 800 Monster, and I agree with you about the valve / drive belt maintenance. I had this beautiful bike for 8 years before selling and do not regret it one bit. I'm very glad to say I owned a Ducati as one of the five bikes I have owned (so far), but I can't see buying a Ducati again because of the maintenance involved.
Hey man! Nice vid, I have the same bike. One quick tip, the bike actually has two adjustable screws below the headlight, on the backside. These will let you adjust how far the handle bar will turn. Hope this helps, cheers!
I totally agree with your points. I actually made a similar video to yours about my complains on the Monster 795. Altho I love the bike I sold it after 7 years of ownership and kept my Honda CB650R. I have to say it’s a relief especially in terms of cost. I miss the Ducati character sometimes tho.
I'm looking into buying a motorcycle but im stuck between 2 the ducati monster 696 and ninja 300. Which bike would be better for a daily commute, reliable, low maintenance costs? Which bike is better 🤔 pls help
@@AutomotiveMoney so the ninja 300 will last longer or will both bikes last long depending if im keeping up with the maintenance and taking care of the bike?
Yapping about 50-60 bucks belt per 24.000 kms and valve clearance adjustment... Grow up guys, all bikes needs to valve adjustment and maintenance. Lazy ass youngster these days...
Nice video! Had a white 696 myself but sold it for an red 1100. Basicly the same but a little more power and a single sided swingarm. Btw in your other video it looked like you handlebar is bend. I believe thats the problem of starting the bike while maneuvering it since I never had that. There are also steering stoppers on your lower triple tree which u can adjust with a small socket.
It's got ferrari servicing on a bike because its a ducati, should be aware of that before buying one. Why would the ignition be on when you're not planning on starting it? Batter doesn't need changed regularly so another non issue. Turning radius is better than most sportsbikes. These are not issues, your looking for faults when there isn't any of you ask me.
If you can service it yourself and do the valve clearances(it's not difficult imo), and maintenance costs are minimal, it's only ppl who take it to the dealer to do the work that get stung with a big bill. Agree on your counter-points, none are issues, and the older carb'd monsters were really bad turning circle especially with the plastic tanks! 696 turning circle is fine imo.
I’m deciding between a Sportster 1200 or a 696. I’ve had a 2007 883 and a 2004 Ducati monster 620 dark. I absolutely loved the monster more then any other bike I’ve had but I definitely rode the Sportster 883 way more and further distances. My budget is 4500$ and it’s so hard to pick between the two! Any and all comments are helpful >
I'm working on one for a friend (just like the one in this video, same color too) and I can confirm.... It sucks. I hate it. Everything is really hard to get to. You gotta remove the gas tank just to access the battery!
15,000 mile service! Can I suggest learning how to adjust your bike by using the kick stand. So I take it that the heat on your inner thighs you get during idle doesn't bug you at all? One thing that bugs me is matching up the neutral light with neutral shift. It doesn't always line up.
Except for the battery....every other problem is expected...buy a Ducati...you buy the passion...you buy the prestige...loving my Ducati...btw...i am a mechanic...😉😉😉
Service is not cheap but neither expensive: Oil and filters: as cheap/expensive as any other similar bike, same spark plugs, chain and so. Belts are 100 bucks every 12.000km...I don´t think is the Ferrari of Motorcycles, try MV or Norton
So far I love my 696, it's quirky and you have to be careful on the throttle unless you want to ride first and second gear in a wheelie but other than that I love the bike
Saluti dall'Italia🇮🇹
i have 2014, model desmo service is exp i agree, second i do full turns and handle bar never hit the tank something wong with ur bike,(low speed u need to tip bike and counter balance) 3rd yes battery location is S. t, and one additional tip its a v2 u need battery tender if u dont ride much and final thaughts it took me 5 years to master and yesterday rode a diavel carbon piece of cake kids stuff every day pass i lived the bike more and more and the fun part wheb u can go 1st gear to 4th all way to red limiter in all gears non stop then ull see bigger cc bikes wont help bad riders about the brakes ebc sintered so far better then ducati brembo
I agree with battery location, you need to remove all the tank plastic to access battery. I also hate try to move bike around when not running, the turn radius is horrible. Looking to move up from the 696 and considering something other than Ducati because of maintenance costs.
If you do the valve clearances, the closers gap will gradually increase, and the openers will reduce over time. Take note of their measurements and you'll know next time round what to inspect on the valve clearances, i done mine few weeks ago, it's not difficult, just taking a lot of bits off compared to the older carb'd bikes. I'd agree if you take your Ducati to a dealer for servicing then maintenance will be expensive but if you can do it yourself it's no more than any other bike.

Hi Max so to be precise is it every 70,000 miles for the valves? I own one..

You think the turning circle is bad on the 696, try the older carb models lol. Nothing wrong with the 696's turning circle

SPOT ON! With all of the points, especially the neutral light.
The 696 I picked up is a 2015 and I can't find the battery it makes me feel stupid so knowing how many bikes I've owned
How insurance every month on ducatti
Totally Variable. Depends rider/history/geogrpahy/coverage/provider

Thanks mate, it was tempting until I see it has worse qualities in everything I already hate.

My Monster 796 hates neutral. I have a battery tender in mine, so if you need to charge it, it's pretty easy.

I have my test coming up, how is this bike for doing U-turns and slow manoeuvres? Since the turn radius isn't the best, thans

@@DC94359 just be aware the throttle is funny on these bikes at low speeds
