It's so true though, everyone treats those of us with any kind of Mental Illness like we're just assholes, or like we're weak and cowardly, and it's so damn frustrating.
Do you wanna know how I got these scars? Though I feel like in the comics, when Batman gets to the source or a chair that knows everything and asks "who is the joker" the answer that comes back is "which one?"
But joker claims in the movie that he didn't have any intentions of being the figurehead of the rebellion, he only did what he did because people were just being jerks. So with that, I don't think the uprisings are his fantasies because he says he didn't want/intend for this to happen. He wouldn't fantasize about something he didn't want. (but still a great theory because you only used the trailer)
He was the accidental catalyst for a movement. And when he confessed on nationwide TV that he was the subway killer, that movement suddenly recognized their catalyst.
I think he just said that. Everyone wants to feel important. Think of the scene where he looks at the paper with the drawing of "him" on it and looks sly and happy and kinda looks around like he has a cute little secret he wishes he could tell. His expression says everything. He liked the attention, however indirect. He was a man who felt overlooked and underappreciated and ignored and he felt like he was finally being seen in some form. He might not have wanted to start a movement, but he definitely wanted to be important in some way.
But is clearly show he liked being the unknown clown who started everything, so maybe yeah the protests started due in part to his actions and maybe no one started wearing clown mask but maybe he just imagined that way to make himself feel powerful

Could his mother have passed away and the “mother” he’s taking care of is nursing his own mental well-being? Needing constant attention; sometimes doing well and sometimes in a very bad state.
Kaizo Audio it's possible, but it would throw me off a little. The Joker origin has him actually lose his wife, his unborn child, and his sanity in less than 24h. If the mother is real, it'll feel more tangible. Otherwise, it might seem as if Joker wasnt a person the audience could become, in a sense. Before people saying that the Joker ripped off the movie the king of comedy from an artistic point of view is it possible that the character Arthur Fleck was a fan of the movie the king of comedy and work this movie into his own schizophrenia?
@Michael Mckay actually the king of comedy came out in 1982 and from shat I heard is that the garbage strike was based on what happened so you can place it in any period because the joker has multiple stories and plus he's telling the story so he can be merging 1981 with the king of comedy that's the joke on all if us is hes telling us the story not us saying stuff like it's set in 1981 because Arthur can set it whatever and however he wants
Love matpat but I do wonder if he does any research AT ALL 1. Arthur Is not trying to impress anyone with comedy, if you watch the trailer you will see he has wanted to be a comedian since he was a kid “ When I was a little boy I told everyone I was going to be a comedian and they all laughed, Well nobody’s laughing now” 2.This is an alternate Joker that has NOTHING to do with the main universe, This is simply another incarnation.
Even the Joker doesn't know his own origin story. "I'm not exactly sure what happened. Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another... If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!" - Joker
There is an external world, but it is how we perceive the world and make it what it is to our own individual selves. If I touched a leaf, the feel of it may be different from that of someone else because of their brain reacting to the texture, as all other living things may react differently to it. The way we perceive the world individually is what the world is in our perceptive reality, but may not be and most likely is not the world for what it truly is, and we may never know what it truly is. It is based off of what we know from our senses and perception of those senses.
Well there is this Joker: "Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another ... if I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!" So this movie fits right in
I know it hurts to be wrong, kid, but maybe you should pick up a copy of The Killing Joke. You'll find that The Joker uses the name Arthur Fleck to describe the dubious origin story he tells James Gordon. That puts the use of the name as far back as 1988.
I just saw this movie. Who's laughing now? Edit: Thanks guys I never got so many likes. It really makes me very happy to see WB do justice to the DC movies. All this time we DC fans have been quiet. No more!
Once again....your theory seems to be completely believable. Even if it's wrong you've succeeded in perceiving a possibility that can be just as credible as what may actually happen. That is why I keep watching your content.
@Xinge Gao I could be mistaken, but I believe the general portrayal of schizophrenia as a split personality is something of a common myth or stereotype. I'm not sure how they're connected, but I'm pretty sure you can have schizophrenia without having multiple personalities.
@@eyesofthecervino3366 you are right. A split personality is not a characteristic of schizophrenia, it's a mental illness on its own. People just always confuse them both

They always think I'm not listening or don't care. I am listening and I do care, but I can't behave like them.
I have a rage based form of depression, things that should make me sad cause me to be uncontrollably angry, the medicine for this condition is basically poison that made me so sick I couldn't function
I don't think this movie was originally about the Joker, I think Todd Phillips came up with a story about a random clown but then Warner "lent" the Batman universe.

How is making a child laugh on a bus “inappropriate behaviour”??
The exact same thing was wondering.
Considering there are people who consider hugs sexual assault nowadays...
Hamid Adib Maybe The child could have just been disciplined and needed to feel bad so he’d learn. Arthur making him smile could be considered undermining the mom’s parenting.

@Michael Mckay joker: I was just thinking of a joke.
You :you wanna tell it to me?
Joker: You wouldn't get it.
@Michael Mckay yeah definitely still an awesome movie my opinions are pure speculation though.

2.This is an alternate Joker that has NOTHING to do with the main universe, This is simply another incarnation.

Dabunny Rabbit Are you claiming there is no external world?
There is an external world, but it is how we perceive the world and make it what it is to our own individual selves. If I touched a leaf, the feel of it may be different from that of someone else because of their brain reacting to the texture, as all other living things may react differently to it. The way we perceive the world individually is what the world is in our perceptive reality, but may not be and most likely is not the world for what it truly is, and we may never know what it truly is. It is based off of what we know from our senses and perception of those senses.

I know it hurts to be wrong, kid, but maybe you should pick up a copy of The Killing Joke. You'll find that The Joker uses the name Arthur Fleck to describe the dubious origin story he tells James Gordon. That puts the use of the name as far back as 1988.

He knows how he BECAME the Joker. He knows that he was dropped into a vat of acid and this changed his face into what comic fans all know and love. The Joker chooses to forget about the life he had before Batman made him the menace that he was.
