I honestly want this movie to be the best batman film, or at least so good it's tied with The Dark Knight. RP has proven himself to be an incredible actor from what i've seen of 'The Lighthouse'.
The riddler says, “your apart of this too...” he’s talking about the court of owls bc they exist within Wayne Interprise and several memeber of the council at Wayne Interprise are members of the court of owls. That’s also why he says, “what is the price of ur blind eye...” he’s talking about how Bruce fails to see that they exist within his own company
I think what he means by that is that the justice system is very corrupt and people within it turn a blind eye to crime. He knows batman works with that same corrupt justice system and believes batman has a point where he will turn a blind eye to crime. But your theory is interesting nonetheless. I'm very excited for the movie.
lord donk Batman doesn’t work with the police in the movie. They are having a “truce” it happens all the time in the first 2 years of Batman’s career in the comics.
@@dustinthewind4516 how could they have a truce and not be working together? I assume at the very least he is speaking with gordon. Not sure how close to the comics this will be.
@@dustinthewind4516 I see. Hopefully the movie is as good as the trailer. I definitely get the lex luthor "if god is all powerful than he cannot be all good and if he is all good he cannot be all powerful" vibe from the riddler. With the riddler in place of lex and batman in place of superman. I think the riddler believes batman is corrupt or corruptable. Maybe that fight scene is actually at the start of the movie and thats what makes the riddler target him. Maybe the riddler sees a difference between justice and brutality. Maybe he thinks there cannot be justice that is motivated by vengeance.
Alright, seeing the movie a year later I say he got a solid 30-40% right in a sense but ultimately they made a well crafted and meticulous movie with way more twists and turns that he could account for
He got the obvious trailer things right and everything else he guessed wrong. The story is the exact opposite of what he predicted, the characters wrong and the whole final message/arc too.
@@CoolMyron I believe he just said that was just one of many inspirations, I don't know if he actually said "based off" however im sure some website made that claim.

You give a lot of credit to the stupidity of this kid. The film is not even 25% recorded and if Pattison dies of COVID, may never be finished. Don't hope for Robert Pattison to die, but would be nice that this movie would never see the light.
I'll call this partially correct. While it was very much a Batman movie, unlike the title of your video, you were sort of right with "Batman will lose" He didn't see Riddler's big plan until the vans were exploding. He may have had a huge role in putting the Riddler in Arkham, and did stop the bloodbath Riddler had planned, but he didn't see Riddler's endgame until Gotham was being flooded.
Riddlers outfit in the trailer is simply a way to ensure NONE of his DNA is at that crime scene. First thing I noticed as an actual crime scene investigator.
As a person with OCD (in lots of version Riddler also has OCD) - I thought that this outfit also gives the perfectionist vibe with how the crime was meant to be perfect and his persona not identified.
The thing with having 6 or more villains, they don't need to feature extensively and have an indepth storyline. They can use it as a way to introduce a villain to the universe, they don't even have to have an interaction with Batman during the movie because if they do it skilfully enough then they can simply tee up the sequels and have a trilogy or more of movies which interweave between themselves.
I hope the Joker shows up at some point. Yes, I've heard people say that they're sick of the Joker, but I think we need him more than ever in this day and age. Almost all the comic book films are ultra-serious now, so the Joker is your only option if you want to get away with having a funny villain.
Rumor mill has it that Marvel had done the same for the Punisher's entrance into the MCU. In two separate scenes in phase 1 an independent yellow Penske moving truck assists the heroes in pivotal moments. The driver was to be ultimately revealed as Frank Castle. It's likely BS, but cool idea all the same.
After the second trailer dropped, The Court of Owls is even more likely to appear, since Bruce Wayne's dad was a part of it in some comics and there's that one scene where batman stands in the middle of a circle and in one of the sides it's written 'My father's sins'. Good one, Matpat!
I think he meant it was not going to be the kind of Batman movie we're all used to. Like how the Joker movie's portrayal of the character was different from what we were used to.
Dear Team Film Theorists, something’s been bothering me for quite a while now and maybe you can find the answer... How freaking rich are Roger and Anita (from 101 Dalmatians) to provide food for this amount of dogs EVERYDAY. I mean... how much food is it anyway? I have ONE cat and it’s a fair amount of money I have to spend per month, to provide food. I‘m just so curious, because if one cat is semi expensive (if you feed the good stuff) then how much must ist cost to provide for 101 dogs? Greetings from the other side of the pond
Well, at the end of the movie, Roger suggests that they should become breeders. Im not saying that that makes alot of money, but some shelters and breeders get donations, so that could be of some help.
Two face wasn’t in it, court of owls weren’t in it, his moral code was not broken. In fact it was actually enhanced, realizing vengeance isn’t the answer, he ends the movie saving civilians. & People are saying “how close Matpat was to getting it right…” that’s just a nice way of saying he was wrong.
This would actually work because of the riddler second riddle from the movie ""If you are justice, please do not lie, what is the price for your blind eye?" The answer is innocence
Justice is often depicted blindfolded and not able to see, as justice should be blind. However, turning a blind eye means ignoring undesirable information. If justice is to be blind and only care about the truth, is truth only that of what is most convenient or desirable? And at what cost to Gotham/society?
Yes I also assume most of the villians will be there just to set the tone and get people hyped to recognize them. It would be a fail if they did a 1960s batmovie style teamup or spend the time having batman take down multiple different plots throughout nthe film.
It is because The Joker takes the focus of all audiences and no one does actually realise there are alot of villains. So in a way Heath Ledger's performance is what made this a masterpiece.
Let me get this straight: You comment something that is unrelated to the fact that I have two DANGEROUSLY DASHING girlfriends? Considering that I am the unprettiest TH-camr ever, having two hot girlfriends is really incredible. Yet you did not mention that at all. I am quite disappointed, dear pasta
I always thought being a detective was one of his most underrated aspects. At least in film anyways. Hearing this makes me personally far more interested in the movie.
I always liked "ninja" Batman (don't mean the animated movie, which I didn't hate like everybody else), but I do agree that it usually ignored compared to his fighting and gadgets.
At risk of sounding like a complete moron: What if when Riddler tells Batman "You're apart of this too" he means because Batman only takes down low-level thug criminals instead of the corrupt elite of Gotham, he is unknowingly allowing the corrupt high status individuals in the system to continue to function behind the scenes.
I don't know, if it was year one and he stuck to petty thugs or something maybe, but if this is truly a detective driven story it's not a stretch for him to already know there's higher corruption. The issue then becomes how far reaching and deep it is.
@@royanque8374 it could be the Riddler telling Batman that he will see how far the corruption of Gotham goes after he exposes them and/or kills them. Hence the "you'll see". In all honesty I am kind of just grasping at straws at this point haha

“Beware the Court of Owls, that watches all the time, Ruling Gotham from a shadowed perch, behind granite and lime. They watch you at your hearth, they watch you in your bed. Speak not a whispered word about them, or they'll send the Talon for your head.”

MatPat. Alfred will be BRUCE'S tipping point. In the clip. You see the riddler atop a body about to use masking tape. And there is also a clip where batman slowly walks into a group of GMPD and towards a chair with a dead person and his head taped with writing on it. It also seemed that it was a somber moment. Edit: Vengeance. For whom? His parents? Or Alfred?
Yes, i thought about hush as well. - The riddler as one of the main villains - a whole entourage of villains - Batman being pushed over the edge that he (nearly) kills someone it really sounds a bit like hush and the guy with the bandaged face might actually be hush and not the riddler, who knows
I like how he had some interesting angles with this, although it didn’t end up being right. In a sense Batman was challenged. His code and perspective were brought into it. But it’s not all wrong. Batman saw himself at one point as the last target. And in some ways I can see how this theory came about. Thankfully it wasn’t this. This movie ironically had a more positive message.
I meant that Riddler wouldn't just go out of his way to do something to break Batman. He wants to essentially create a riddle that the world's greatest detective can't solve and his obsession with Batman is that Batman's always solved his riddle and the Riddler being a narcissist can't stand.

To be fair I think that most of the “villains” in this will just be them starting out. Like I’ve heard Penguin in this one doesn’t like the nickname Penguin at the start. I think we’ll see the start of a lot of potential villains but that they won’t actually be playing the full supervillain role yet. They’ll just be corrupted, or good and getting corrupted, people in Gotham who the audience will know have a future as villains. Like maybe Two-Face will get the acid attack but won’t actually come out as a full villain yet. There could be mention of a crazy guy in clown makeup without actually seeing Joker. I think the Court will be exposed by Riddler and Batman following his clues, and then the rest of the rogues gallery will be out and active for future films.
So a sort of "he's Batman, not Bruce Wayne" version of how Gotham ran? Because that sounds like an equally interesting version of that [Gotham's] story. I enjoyed watching Gordon and Bruce develop a mentor/student relationship and how Gordon became important to GCPD in the first place. And why he lets Batman even exist in the city. But seeing those villains rise while Batman is active would be really interesting. I just hope a movie/90-120 min story can pull off what five years of 12-22 episodes (depending) could.
I could see the twist maybe being the court either gets taken out violently, or is hurt badly enough that they have to hide and rebuild, but as a result, the crime in the city explodes as all the mid-tier crime bosses and supervillain-wannabes fight to get a slice of the pie and establish themselves. This is what usually happens in the real world when you create a vacuum, and it would help explain why Gotham is such a mess later in the timeline when Batman has supposedly been fighting these guys for years
Is it just me or does the Riddlers way of “revenge” seem very close to what Jason Todd’s way of revenge played out? Both choosing the violent path instead of the “non killing” route that Batman is on
Very good catch. They both also have this mindset of batman isn't going to save people. They know batman is a farce and they want to prove that to other people
@@envy7455 I don’t think they’re right though that’s the problem,Batman’s biggest character point is always whether his hatred is stronger than his will and drive for justice
POSSIBLE SPOILER FOR HUSH!! The Riddlers wrapped up face reminds me of Batman: Hush, the animated movie that came out not too long ago, where the riddler was the main villain and there were like 6 villains, poison Ivy, joker, catwoman, bane, riddler, clayface and superman at one point.🤷🏻♂️
That was incredibly disappointing to most people who already know the identity of Hush being a childhood friend of Bruce and not the Riddler. It felt like they just threw Riddler into the movie so that there’d be a twist. The reason why Hush wears bandages in the comics is because he’s a plastic surgeon who’s cut off people’s faces in order to give himself surgery to look exactly like Bruce Wayne so he could steal his fortune and destroy his empire as a form of revenge.
I do hate to break it to you, but the Hush movie gets quite a few things wrong compared to the original Hush outings. Especially the fact that Hush is actually Thomas Elliot and he used the Riddler and Clayface as dopplegangers to confuse Batman. Also to people reading this comment who haven't watched the animated Hush movie, I strongly advise that you don't because it is a very bad re-imagining of the original Hush comic arc
I doubt it's going to end with him killing. It's too simplistic and would be hugely disappointing. But I think he will definitely end up realizing he can't save gotham, he can't fix it, that corruption and crime is not something you fix but instead something you have fight against....forever.
That would also nicely fit into his character later, where he is so committed to hi mission, that he sacrifices everything for it, because he knows that it is a eternal endeavor.
I think it could totally involve him killing, it doesn't mean there can't be more complex elements at work along with it. I'm really excited for this movie in a way that I don't normally get excited for movies. But your last tagline there I think might be just about exactly how the movie ends.
He will most def get close to killing. If someone messes with Alfred or someone closer he will always be tempted but won’t break that line. Take the “I’m Vengeance” scene for example, when I saw that scene I thought immediately since this is early in his career, that he doesn’t have that self control like in his later years. Im the batgirl part of the killing joke, he says that she has not went into the darkness, or something of that so I think I’m this movie something like this will happen. Just a theory😉
Shazam literally named all the sins and their significance to the characters in the movie. I think it’s very possible that while maybe not outright said, the characters from this new Batman will each represent one of the sins.
Batman: Wrath Riddler: Pride? Penguin: Gluttony Catwoman: Lust Falcone: Greed? Two-Face: Envy? Court of Owls: Sloth? I hate that "lust" is always just the woman in Hollywood, but it is Hollywood.

“If you are justice, Please do not lie, What is the price For your blind eye?” - The Riddler “I’m Vengeance” - The Batman (I absolutely love how the answer to the riddle The Riddler gave was also the response Batman gave to the criminals he just beat up.)
I think the 6th villain is Sal Maroni. Matt Reeves stated that the movie will be based on The Long Halloween, and both Carmine Falcone and Sal Maroni played a central role in the story.
One thing MatPat forgot to mention about The Batman's parallels with Se7en is that at the end of Se7en, John Doe, wanting to break Mills and provoke him into killing him, says "Become vengeance, become wrath". And what does Batman say when someone asks who he is? "I'm Vengeance..." pretty cool little detail I think which could be a nod to the claim MatPat makes where he says Batman beats this dude to death after his moral code has been broken, he's become Vengeance, what John Doe (or in this case, The Riddler) wants him to become.
@@itstrending8440 dude our paths cross so many times lmao. I don't know much about the animated Batman series, so if that's really what this is nodding to, that's cool. I just thought this was a cool little tidbit or like a coincidence
Due to Matt Reeves' resume, I suspect highly this movie will subvert that. Matt Reeves is a director I note as being able to humanize non-human characters as well as things most would say are less human. Batman may be human, but I'm betting this story will be Batman rising from his anger to become Batman. In the end, Riddler will fail due to Batman's humanity, but that's just me.
One problem with that theory: If that scene happens at the end of the movie and this is batman's second year as a vigilante, how come a thug doesn't know who batman is? If this was year one, it would make sense due to needing time to build your reputation. If a guy in a bat costume was a vigilante for two years, pretty much everyone would know of the existence of batman.
The Court of Owls presence is supported by the Riddler’s quote in the trailer: “If you’re justice, please do not lie. What is the price for your blind eye?”. He may be testing if Batman is really his “Allie”. I think this movie will play kinda like Batman the Dark Night, a Gotham with mobs and corrupt police with two persons trying to save it: one following by the rules and being tricked by the police (Batman), and one deluded with the police/court of owls fighting violently for Gotham’s soul (Joker in Dark Night, Riddler in this movie)
I could be wrong for sure, but I'm thinking that the Riddler's "If you're justice..." comment is actually directed at the GCPD and not Batman. I think he's going after the police and this comment is calling them out for being controlled by the Court of Owls.
When you said Riddler could be an ally, I went back to his quote in the trailer. "You're a part of this too." He's saying that they are both fighting corruption in Gotham, they're just doing it in different ways.

Yikes.

The word “kimono”, literally means a “thing to wear”. Ki is “wear”, and mono is “thing”.
Didnt you recycle this comment from Pewd's video? Either way thx
O! Cool!
so it is acually wearthing than, not thing to wear.
Thanks so much
@@okaydetar821 No, Japanese language grammar work that way. So it is "thing to wear" if translated into English.
After seeing this movie and coming back to this video, I am actually surprised to see how accurate this interpretation ended up being.
D
yesth-cam.com/video/zFJ2AN_CZH8/w-d-xo.html
That was incredibly disappointing to most people who already know the identity of Hush being a childhood friend of Bruce and not the Riddler. It felt like they just threw Riddler into the movie so that there’d be a twist. The reason why Hush wears bandages in the comics is because he’s a plastic surgeon who’s cut off people’s faces in order to give himself surgery to look exactly like Bruce Wayne so he could steal his fortune and destroy his empire as a form of revenge.
Kristian Fischer yeah, it did initially confuse me during my viewing of it 🤷🏻♂️
Kristian Fischer They copied that exact storyline in Batwoman on The CW now that I’m reading this! Hush is now Bruce Wayne at the end of Season 1.
The dark knight: *chuckles nervously*
I think the main message is going to be, “Forget it Bruce, it’s Gotham”. Aka a reference to Chinatown
Batman: Wrath
Riddler: Pride?
Penguin: Gluttony
Catwoman: Lust
Falcone: Greed?
Two-Face: Envy?
Court of Owls: Sloth?
I hate that "lust" is always just the woman in Hollywood, but it is Hollywood.
@@davidbjacobs3598 catwoman can be greed.
David B Jacobs i would definitely say catwoman is greed but no one else can be lust lol
@@davidbjacobs3598 Catwoman typically lusts over Batman so it still works.
@Chris Yeah it totally fits, though she'd be a better Greed imo. But like... all of them are Greed. So there's that.
Matpat was so closee. He went a bit too far at the end but the se7en comparison is dead on.
One of MatPat's wildest takes is "this movie uses music that came out within 5 years of when this other movie came out, therefore they're connected."
Not really. It was actually brilliant since nirvana was used in the trailer
Having a lot of villains doesn’t make a story bad it depends on who created the story and matt reeves is a genius and understands The Batman

@@stealthcheck I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt, and pretend what you said was a joke.
Should be fine if they have cameo's or supporting roles.

"I'm Vengeance..."
pretty cool little detail I think which could be a nod to the claim MatPat makes where he says Batman beats this dude to death after his moral code has been broken, he's become Vengeance, what John Doe (or in this case, The Riddler) wants him to become.
hi you again and i think its more of hinting to the animated series but that could be cool
@@itstrending8440 dude our paths cross so many times lmao. I don't know much about the animated Batman series, so if that's really what this is nodding to, that's cool. I just thought this was a cool little tidbit or like a coincidence
@@shivam-tiwari19 yeah nice theory
Due to Matt Reeves' resume, I suspect highly this movie will subvert that. Matt Reeves is a director I note as being able to humanize non-human characters as well as things most would say are less human. Batman may be human, but I'm betting this story will be Batman rising from his anger to become Batman. In the end, Riddler will fail due to Batman's humanity, but that's just me.
One problem with that theory:
If that scene happens at the end of the movie and this is batman's second year as a vigilante, how come a thug doesn't know who batman is? If this was year one, it would make sense due to needing time to build your reputation. If a guy in a bat costume was a vigilante for two years, pretty much everyone would know of the existence of batman.
I think the accurate parts of this theory were details that were made pretty obvious by the trailer

The Court of Owls presence is supported by the Riddler’s quote in the trailer: “If you’re justice, please do not lie. What is the price for your blind eye?”. He may be testing if Batman is really his “Allie”. I think this movie will play kinda like Batman the Dark Night, a Gotham with mobs and corrupt police with two persons trying to save it: one following by the rules and being tricked by the police (Batman), and one deluded with the police/court of owls fighting violently for Gotham’s soul (Joker in Dark Night, Riddler in this movie)
th-cam.com/video/77qt7dMzkKE/w-d-xo.html batman beyond mvie leaks
Just a heads up it’s ‘ally’ not ‘allie’
I could be wrong for sure, but I'm thinking that the Riddler's "If you're justice..." comment is actually directed at the GCPD and not Batman. I think he's going after the police and this comment is calling them out for being controlled by the Court of Owls.
When you said Riddler could be an ally, I went back to his quote in the trailer. "You're a part of this too." He's saying that they are both fighting corruption in Gotham, they're just doing it in different ways.
