Hi everyone! Let me know what you think about Materialiq in the comments below! The displacement setup feature, at least to me, is a huge highlight of this add-on :)

I should just buy this. I've been doing the chore of setting up PBR materials downloaded from a half dozen different websites all day and night long. Just pressing ctrl+shift+t with node wrangler IS NOT ENOUGH to get the material to look correct.
Every other material needs very different displacement scale and midpoint values. Some materials need the normal map, some don't. Some need the AO multiplied with the base color to match the demo image on the website, some don't.
When a material has a SSS map it's a total crapshoot trying to figure out where to use it properly.
Sometimes a black and white map needs to be set to No Color and sometimes it needs to be set to sRGB.
Often you need to manually adjust the specular value because none of the materials come with a specular map but they clearly look wrong in Blender for some reason and it's usually because I need to use a specular value other than 0.5.
1:05 - It is so annoying that textures waste so much hard drive space.
The Normal maps are 3x to 10x bigger than the displacement maps but more than half of the time using displacement as bump looks identical to or better than the normal map.
It's also common for there to be both DirectX and OpenGL versions of the normal map.
The SSS maps are often identical to the base color maps.

I miss Blender. I get busy with work and by time I have time there's soo much new and updates. Im overwhelmed.

Me too. Its actually geting more 'unified' in that if you can use one thing then everything else uses the same UI and key presses now which makes exploring easier. Just enjoy creating - its not a competition. Art is emotion.

Great video but there's a very old trick (I have nearly 30 years in 3D) where yo get two low res textures and use a fractal cloud texture to decide which is visible so you get endless unrepeating scenery across a vast plane and very low memory usage by 1995 levels! So i was sat there shouting "Scale! Scale! Scale!" at the screen as that will affect it more than anything! LOL

that's actually really cool! do you have any other tricks?

This looks really great. If you want to transfer the texture images of the material over to a game engine, do you have access to the single images as well?

Hi Clint, yes you can. You have access to all textures. Also soon we'd like to support Unreal Engine officially.

You are doing amazing job with the videos! On the other hand I don't know what to think about Materialiq... I'm not an owner of this particular addon, but when I was reading the reviews on BlenderMarket it put me off absolutely from buying the addon myself several times.

Based on what though? These are for realistic models and scenes while
Sanctus is more for sketch like stylized 3D. The products have different use cases.
