    An excellent video, as always! You mentioned Sentimental Graffitti positively...that is unlike the standard media!

      Thanks! imo the illustrations were Sentimental Graffiti's strongest suit. Too bad we don't get to see it in the actual game.

    The art style reminds me a lot of how 80's anime and manga are drawn, so it's a plus for me!

      It took me years to realize TLS's artwork was actually good. Kid me had bad taste.
      For your interest, Matsuda Kouji is still making art, and his style has become noticeably younger looking and rounder. twitter.com/kouji_matuda/status/1420545614366924805

    The little animations during the After School Conversations are super cute...it feels like it matches the art style well. Maybe it's just 'cause of all the over-the-top character designs that tend to be in these kinds of games, but there's something so endearing about the more simple designs and animations.

      In a visual standpoint the Conversation minigame is really well made. The idea of talking to the girls in 'real time'(thankfully no timer) while they were 'moving' was really appealing. I was able to see that when I grew older, but young me was complaining on the humongous eyes. Those young people and their bad tastes!

    Very informative video! I thought Kimikiss was the first, I never knew it was preceded by an entire series until very recently. My main exposure to these games is through their anime adaptations, so it's no wonder why TLS was unbeknownst to me.
    I have a huge soft spot for the Kimikiss anime, the tone and writing were down-to-earth in a way I've never seen in an anime before or since. Amagami and PhotoKano's anime adaptions were more typical in that they play into the fanservice and such. When you mentioned that the source material was staunchly committed to being grounded to stand out in its market, it seems the anime adaptation of Kimikiss was the only one that got the memo. A shame it wasn't more well received.

    The anime (Amagami SS) introduced me to the dating sim concept, so it is interesting seeing its origin.

    Ahh, I played this game just last year! On fansites I'd often read that the homely, plain artstyle is what gives it it's charm, and I have to agree. Really cute game. Nozomi was my favorite to romance, but the little sister was my favorite character overall. The walking home + food segments took me by surprise, though. "This is just like Tokimeki Girl's Side...!" I like how despite the clunkiness, you can see the seeds of Amagami very well. Thank you for the interesting videos as always!! (^人^)

    • @bapsago
      @bapsago  ปีที่แล้ว

      TLS's Geko Conversation was a real mind blowing concept back then too! Still a lot of fans had beef with the art style mostly in a 'it's weird at first but you get used to it' sort of way. Probably because it wasn't something you commonly see in Gyaruges of that time.
      Yeah I also was like wow, Misaki actually behaves like a family member. The supporting siblings started getting weird in the following sequels.

    Is there any chance you'll make a video about Amagami itself? I know that the series is more well known than the other games you'll cover, but i haven't seen anyone touch on the game in-depth on an English channel, and i would really like to see it! Keep up the wonderful work you do on shedding light on obscure games and cheers!

    • @bapsago
      @bapsago  ปีที่แล้ว

      Huh, I assumed there would be at least a few videos on Amagami since some folks cared to release a translation patch for that massive amount of text.
      To answer your question, I don't have plans to review Amagami right at the moment. Actually someone else asked me on Amagami some while ago, and I answered not until the entire TLS and Kimikiss review, but really depends on how I feel. Wish I had more time making the videos 😂

      @@bapsago Yeah, it's a shame no one so far jumped on the opportunity, but i guess dating sims and visual novels are still a niche thing here in the west.
      I don't mind waiting for Amagami, in fact, i'd love to see the previous entries in more depth, especially KimiKiss! I stumbled upon that game first on a rom/ISO sharing website but it wasn't translated, but in the related section it showed Amagami and i fell in love with that game, so i'd really love to see what the other games were like so i can compare and look how the series evolved over time.

      @@bapsago I actually started True Fortune last night! I enjoyed what I played a lot. The art caught my eye because it does not look like the usual otome game art from that time and I Shinya is kind of my jam as far as character types. But then I ended up REALLY liking Takuto. His little Otaku personality was SO endearing and I was kinda annoyed when MC would be a little judgemental. I have been looking for more deep cuts in dating sims/otome games and you always come through!

      그쵸 인체도 당시의 젓가락 미소녀들보다 더 굴곡있게 그렸다능.. 근데 갈수록 그림체가 많이 로리로리하게 바뀌셨더라고요. 저때처럼 적당히 길었을때도 괜찮았는데..
      만나고 싶어서 작화는 정말 무슨생각으로 완성작이라고 냈는지 의심이 됩니다. 언니 지인은 걸즈사이드4 이벤트 CG를 아이타쿠테랑 비교하던데, 정말 그 정도로 심하나 싶은ㅋㅋㅋ 하긴사 GS3탄의 보정인?이 없었는지 확실히 더 후져보이긴 했어요.

    • @bapsago

      TLS's art style certainly stood out amongst the popular Bishoujo aesthetics on the 90's. I was so immature to deem it 'bad'.
      The character's Makimura Miki from Nagai Go's 1973 manga Devilman. I recommend reading it if you're into Japanese dark fantasy/apocalyptic genres(like Berserk), since this manga pretty much influenced them.

    Great video!! The "walking home together" segments are fascinating to me... gameplay aside, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it in a dating sim visually, simple and charming. The randomness in games like this is so annoying!! Save scumming shouldn't be a necessary component of gameplay imoooo

    • @bapsago
      @bapsago  ปีที่แล้ว

      TLS from the beginning had a lot of potential if they were able put themselves apart from the huge wave of Bishoujo Dating Sims in the 90's.
      I guess it is possible to see at least a normal ending with good RNG(On my first playthrough I saw Chiharu's ending without loading only because I met her the most lol), but you'll be missing out on a lot of events. A sure way to sell strategy guides, but thankfully in this day and age we're blessed with the Internet and dedicated fans.
