    Oh! I just rewatched the video and noticed the little thing with Rosalia yelling at you when your try to name your MC Rosalia. What a cute Easter egg!

    The juxtaposition of the rich girl rival's name immediately followed by the other rival's name lololol
    It's interesting to see the old video game design logic of 'make solutions obscure and tedious to keep them playing as long as possible' reflected in otome games. It's one of those things that I was kinda aware was a thing they had done, but I never really stopped to think of HOW.

      The names sure are something in some Japanese video games with a Western Fantasy setting. The spellings for the first names I was able to know via the official website archive, but the last names I just referenced vndb. Hopefully the uploader knew more than I did.
      I certainly don't mind a length of the game if the journey is a fun one, which this game isn't. The PC-FX players did not even have a guide book to go by.

    Wonderful video!! I'm losing it a bit at these names, such mouthfuls... I understand not wanting to borrow real names for your western-coded generic fantasy setting, but I have to wonder if they even tried pronouncing some of these out loud before finishing the script.

      Those weird sounding names in Elder Scrolls got nothing on western styled Japanese games. Probably seems to sound fine in Japanese, and whoever made up the names really did not consider how they're spelt. There's a Dassault and Ling Temco Vought, so at least one of them must be an aviation fan.

    Some of the music tracks sound so similar to Ocarina of Time tracks that I thought they were rip-offs... but both versions of Otome came out before OOC. Koji Kondo has some questions to answer.
    Roter is a word, "red" is German... so, yeah, it still doesn't make any sense. I'm pretty sure reading the whole thing out loud summoned the Eldritch God of Misogyny.

      @bapsago  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ooh, didn't know that; thanks! The katakana for his name sounds like 'Rotair' and according to Google translate the German pronunciation for Roter isn't even close. I guess it would have been a more appropriate name for Leon?
      Studio Soramimi were two people I think, and afaik never credited for Nintendo titles, and it sucks if Kondo Koji have indeed 'referenced' some of their pieces for OOT. Always stepping on the small man.

      South Korea also had a doujin Princess Maker style BL game [Oops! My Prince] in 2008! And they're currently doing a remake!

    Are you going to do a video on the Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side Series(I'm sorry if you already did)? It was a game released in the 90s and it has a really interesting history as to why the game was made. Also, the game has an English patch for the ds version on the internet and I think it's really one of those otome games that are really a dating simulator. Also would like to recommend the Prince of Tennis otome games since it's rarely talked about in the English community and it's just stood out to me because it was a shounen manga and anime that gave fanservice to their female fans XD

      Girl's Side 1 was released in 2002. As you can see from my Tokimemo videos I am very familiar with the entire console series(minus GS4 since I don't own a Switch) and will def. make content on them.. some day.
      Before TeniPri Konami also developed a Dating Sim adaptation Harlem Beat, another sports manga serialized in a shonen magazine. And it was really good too. Really good enough to look up the original source. imo the the game adaptations of both TeniPri and Harlem Beat was better than the manga lol

    Oh my goodness, thank you so much for making videos on such a niche subject. I'm a pretty big Angelique fan (despite the flaws) and was wondering about snagging the psx version of his game for cheap, but it seems that it's kind of a hot mess ^^" I I'll still grab it anyways just for Gaming Pride Reasons. I couldn't find much information on the game except for a few stray blogs declaring it "a way worse angelique"
    Again, thank you for making such interesting videos. I appreciate it!

      So glad I helped! It's a lonely field, but somebody's got to to it. I think comparing Albaria to Angelique is unfair since they're two very different games. But yeah, regardless it's not that good. At minimum it's a finished product. The Bonus menu for the PlayStation is the most mysterious yet. Like..why?
      fyi The Albaria no Otome Guide book is pretty cheap, too. Just sayin' 😉

    I have a funny memory about this game. I bought it at the same small Chinatown store I had my PS2 modded in as a teen. My parents wouldn’t let me import games from online back then, so although I was dying to play Angelique Etoile, I settled for what I could find locally. My Japanese at the time was very rudimentary, but somehow I managed to get Leon’s ending.
    And omg, it made me so angry! The ending cinematic is the heroine literally crying barefoot in the kitchen chopping vegetables! Giving up a position of authority for love is one thing, but couldn’t they portray domestic life a little more happily?! I thought Leon was more of an Oscar-type harmless chauvinist, so I was shocked by the mood whiplash of his ending. I turned off the game and immediately put it up for sale on eBay.
    I barely remember the gameplay (based on your description that’s a good thing) or the storyline, but that ending and the rage it inspired is still clear in my mind to this day lol.

    • @bapsago
      @bapsago  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Funny, because the one ending my sister saw back in the days was also Leon. For the review, when I asked her what she remembered about the game(an odd 20+ years later), she recalled Ashan becoming a housewife and taking care of his many siblings or something. The later part was probably from another game, but she remembers hating it regardless.
      In that ending Leon's going off to fight in another war, but considering the world building in Albaria, his high rank, and how powerful the Sacred Maiden is, I don't think his safety would be that of a concern(honestly why do the neighbouring countries even try). But a wife weeping before sending off her husband to war is like, emotional or something.

      @80sanime4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@bapsago It makes me appreciate Angelique all the more because even if the choice between love and career is dated/of its time, at least none of the endings made me feel like I was worse off if I chose to be with a guardian. Knowing I could have been supporting my love interest on the frontlines as a Sacred Maiden vs crying in a dreary kitchen is so frustrating lol especially after putting in the work to get an ending. But in line with the numerous overall odd decisions and writing choices you describe in the video. At least the animated cutscenes are gorgeous.

    이번 영상도 잘 보았습니다.
    영상들을 보다보니 신경 쓰이는게, ' ←이 특수문자를 쓰실 때 앞뒤로 공백을 한칸씩 넣어서(예시- ' 알바레아의 처녀 ' ) 그런지 자막볼 때 그쪽이 좀 위화감이 심하게 들더군요. 다음에 자막 제작하실 적에 참고해 주세요.
    그리고 이번 영상 자막이 오타가 많습니다. 수정해 주세요.
    02:32의 씹적 → 씹덕
    03:48 알바레아사 → 알바레아가
    18:17 었데빌맨 → 데빌맨

      ' '사이는 의도적으로 띄어쓴게 아니라 노트패드로 제작하면 저렇게 커다란 틈이 생기더라고요. 자막 제작 프로그램이랑 둘 다 기본이 영어다 보니 한글로 치면 애로사항이 좀 있더라는.. 물론 수정 안 한 건 제가 게을러서입니다. 다음 자막에 참고하도록 할게요.
      오타 수정 했습니다 감사합니다!
      영상에서 언급했지만 아샨은 아샨티의 애칭이기 때문에 자막에서 그대로 쓴 겁니다ㅎㅎ

    시집살이엔딩있다고 얘기만 들어본게임인데 ㅋㅋㅋ 확실히 CG랑 인겜이랑 차이가크긴하네요...
    요새는 인터넷에 검색하면 차트까지 뜨지만 옛날게임들은 공략집도 따로 팔아서그런가 난데없는데서 필수이벤트가 일어나거나해서 공략집없이 이걸 어떻게하지...싶었는데...그냥 들이박다보면 어찌저찌되는 안젤리크가 친절했던거같기도하고

      적어도 시어머니랑 시동생 부양은 안 하길 바라..지만 왠지 저 캐릭 특성상 할 것 같군요. 게다가 집도 묘하게 낡았고..신혼집 사기 싫어서 본가에 살게 만든 것 같음.
      옛 오타쿠들이 동급생을 열심히 들이받아 수제 공략집까지 만들던 것 보면.. 근성과 시간이 있으면 어떻게든 되지 않았을까 싶습니다. 안젤리크는 엔딩 보기에 정말 친절한 게임이었죠.
