The way you spoke about current otome boys looking like noodles stroke a chord on me. Thankfully, many indie games have LIs with more meat and juiciness, without sacrificing any character development or being inferior in quality! Maybe you should look into that. Anyways, I have been a silent viewer up until now. BUT I have to say that I love that your videos are thoroughly well-researched, you address problematic aspects with grace, and are overall fun. I definitely like the bits were you talk about yourself, your relation with these games (like in the Angelique video) and the Korean gaming landscape (that bit about Hwoarang in that Korean dating sim was interesting too!) I grew up playing Rival Schools, so knowing that you can actually romance these high schoolers that look like 30-year-old steroid-addicted people is amazing! How can you even pick a romance interest?! This game definitely triggers bisexual panic. The cast of characters has every body-type and personality available. It definitely looks like the best dating sim of the 20th century. Would love if you show the world your knowledge in bara too! Greetings from Jeju 💚🍊
Nice to meet you! As a super lurker myself I really appreciate you taking time to comment. I've actually never been to Jeju island. I know my old friend lives there and loved it so much she chose to never go back to Seoul. (she also loves horses) I tend to leave out my personal stuff out unless I find it absolutely necessary, so glad you that some folks enjoy them. I hope to gather some of these redundant info(for example this video originally had this part about me fearlessly exploring shady arcades as a naive little girl) in a bonus video someday. Noodle bishies hehe. I didn't mind as long as the game itself is fun to play. There were really no other options at that time. Good thing that Otomes now are given more choices since developers like Otomate that pumps Otome titles by the numbers. I am aware of the type of indie games you are talking about. It's just that Nekketsu Seisyun Nikki really was one of its kind. If you can't choose between the characters, you play them multiple times! That's what I did XD
Valentines upload! Excellent. More spin off dating sims should handle it like Nekketsu Seisyun Nikki... 100% sincere, everyone in character, no rancid "parody" vibes, go wild
Been a long time fan of your channel, since your Tokimemo video. I always learn something new about the games I like thanks to them. I'm really happy to see you're finally talking about this franchise. It became one of my favorite fighting game franchises once I found it has a dating sim hidden in it. The game was so ahead of its time for letting you be bisexual, and even having different dialogues depending on your character's gender, which I like a lot, since it shows they put effort on it rather than half-assing it with gender neutral dialogue all the time. One instance I remember of that is with Kyosuke at the summer festival, where you choose for the male MC to lose to him at goldfish scooping after making a bet with him. Since he lost, Kyosuke asks him to kiss him, which prompts the MC to say the iconic "But we're both guys!" line they used to say in BL... though that may be a mistranslation from my part, lol. What you said about the Gedo High boys is true, lol. I remember trying to get Daigo's ending. But I failed because his affection wasn't high enough. There were barely any events to increase it. Rip. Also this is the first time I hear about the letters. I'm honestly surprised I found out something new about the game after playing it so many times lol. Really sad that Capcom Otome never got to see the light, even if it was a joke, lol. I would have absolutely digged it. It's amazing how Capcom was able to pack so much content in a PS1 game. You can tell a lot of love and attention was put into it. I always go back to playing it, because it's just that well made for its time. I wish more dating sims were like it, having gameplay tied to it rather than just being a visual novel. The Gunparade franchise is probably another one I like as much for that. I hope you talk about it one day... though I'm unsure on how much of a dating sim it is, since I barely played it. Most of my experience with it comes from the animes. It's a shame Project Justice didn't improve onto the concept, and instead decided to turn it into a board game, which barely has any text in it. Having to play an hour of it just to get a CG and a few lines of dialogue with your favorite character isn't as fun as an entire dating sim, even if you end up making a broken OC you can play with in the arcade mode in the process. I really hope Akira being in SF5 makes it so that there's a possibility for the franchise to come back. Especially after the way the Project Justice story ended. SF6's World Tour mode seems to be a way of testing the waters for it with its character creation, the minigames and how you're able to interact with the cast. PD: Also, glad you talked about Sweet Fuse. Easily one of my favorite otomes with how colorful the cast is, and a great MC. At first I thought it would be a death game due to the missions they had to do, but I was surprised with how romance filled it ended up being... though it still makes me want an Otome set in a death game that doesn't hold back in any regards...
You must really love Nekketsu Seisyun Nikki enough to come out of the shadows! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. Maybe it's just me, but you can play so many visual novels before getting bored of them(omg I said it!). I definitely prefer dating games with other playable elements over a wall of text and messing around with dialogue choice patterns. The Kyosuke kissing thing you mentioned is included around the 24:06 mark! MC's like We're both guys! And Kyosuke's like, Doesn't matter. I won the bet. The game has surprisingly detailed parts depending on the player's gender such as Edge and Gan giving Valentine's day chocolates with a heart and romantic message written on it. Or like only as a girl you can casually speak to Hyo. The male player uses honorifics and formal language towards him. If there ever is a Rival Schools sequel, the title should be (literally)Blow Up Justice Gakuen. Seriously, why didn't Raizo close the school after all that' s happened the first one? Look what ended up happening in Project Justice. And why is Batsu still poor despite making amends with his dad? Raizo's an asshole lol And I would be so mad if Nekketsu Seisyun Nikki was not included. I happen to know a lot about Gunparade March! I literally dedicated my high school years to it. In GunPare, you are not able confess or become a couple with same sex characters. But the romantic dialogues regardless of gender are present, so there's room for imagination. What I found fun was that you can cheat and break up, and get into fistfights over some love affair. There are even characters with dedicated skills to NOT get caught cheating, which you can learn. To tell you the truth I'm not a fan of the anime because it's way too different from the game. I think Sweet Fuse have felt a lot less creepy if Inafune did not attach his name and life philosophy(the texts Saki get from her uncle are based on Inafune's 'life experiences' in his gaming industry career-_-) to a 17 year old girl.
As a ESL person, hearing you don't like "Skinny Bitches" gave me pause for a sec, luckily the cc, cleared that confusion for me! Thanks for the video and Happy Valentines day!
Even I wouldn't go that far to insult an aesthetic a lot of people love. Thanks for the doubt, I would have been the total bitch if anyone misunderstood.

Rewatching this video as usual and fantasizing about the dating sim of my dream with this game At the end section you talk how Capcom is too big now to take risk, I'm reminded that in SF6, the single player campaign is the same as Nekketsu ! 😮 except the dating sim aspect is just the fighter texting you 😢 but mayhap in the future the Nekketsu series will finally make a comeback as a fully realize fighting/dating sim game ! Maybe Darkstalker could have a new entry in that fantasical future too!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😢😢😢
Finally you can make the playable character look super weird but we can't date any of the fighters boo I say. A Darkstalkers Dating Sim would have the most diverse romantic interests ever. Back in the days I was confused cuz Aulbath/Rikuo looked so handsome yet he's a fish lol
Always shoutouts to the geicomi artists, always ("bara" is kind of uh. we don't use that term anymore, since it's outdated and kind of offensive, but I get why it was used.) Rival Schools is one of my favorite fighting game series (although I played it in the arcades, and thus, never got to play the dating sim side games!) It's truly unique, and to this day I'm sad that we never got a remake, but I'll take Baku being in Tatsunoko VS Capcom as a consolation prize. Shimamoto Kazuhiko is one of my gods as well, and I appreciate that he got a fair shoutout in an English language video. He's seriously underrepresented! I feel you on the choice of design when it comes to otome games, but I feel with more recent joseimuke, LGBTQA+ and (unfortunately) gacha games, we're getting a lot more variation in terms of age and body types. It's kind of the reason why I stuck with Idolm@ster SideM for all these years (although I do wish they added more ossans), and still follow Lifewonders' works! Thanks again for this video, it was super informative and entertaining, as always!
Thanks for watching&commenting! I used gay/bara synonymously in the previous videos, but thought using just Bara would be okay in this context since it's a passing remark, and the word's still more recognizable in the English speaking region like Yaoi(which is also dead word in Japan and a degrading term). I will be more careful next time. Call me picky, but rather than content that are specifically catered to target a certain demographic, I find media made for the overall general audience more appealing. Like ojisan characters and Draphs from Granblue Fantasy. Side M's the only idol genre with almost half the cast being older characters, right? Ironically my favourite unit is Shinsoku Ikkon. Come to think of it it does overlap with my Rival Schools preference..
@@bapsago I love Shinsoku Ikkon! Personally, I'm a fan of THE Kougadou. I think the oldest character in SideM is 34 years old, so, not quite the oyaji type I'd hope for, but maybe someday...
Yes!!! It's why I'm not that interested in otome games these days. Like, the artwork are gorgeous but the characters look too... not enough... idk, not my cup of tea! (And it's so not diverse! I know it's a tropey genre but c'mon!) And love this Capcom artist! The joke otome game should have seen the light! It looked so unique!
Sadly we're in the minority, but as long as other Otomes enjoy themselves. Not that Full House Kiss is bad, but I really wish it had Capcom's unique aesthetics. I agree Kinu's joke Otome game totally should have been greenlit lol
I didn't speak or read Japanese back then I played that game to death, I have specially fond memories of that cd2 because of how unique it was to me back in the day.
Oh, this was back in the early 2000s XD I played the Japanese PS version when it came out since I was never able to play it in the arcade on how popular it was(I lived in South Korea). Even then I was not aware that Nekketsu Seisyun Nikki could be this good lol As for shipping, I used to draw a lot of Edge x Akira back in middle school. He has a mild crush on her, so isn't that cute.
I'm playing JusGaku nikki 2 (extension) I beg you with all my soul. I just wanna know a quick explanation of the Edit character options, because everything is in japanese. At least the first options for the starting of the story mode, and the options in the edith menu. Please, and thanks, there's no video like that in all internet.
I searched gamefaqs and there seems to be some in-depth guides. gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/198629-shiritsu-justice-gakuen-nekketsu-seisyun-nikki-2/faqs I hope this helps!
Preferring the character designs by Capcom vs. 90% of Otome game characters... I've never felt so seen before!
Not the Bara 💀 I see you're a person of culture as well...
Sure am!

I do get a bit irked by them, but let people have their fun I say. I have other things to complain about, you know!
Broke: Dragon Ball is nekketsu
Bespoke: West Side Story is nekketsu
I guess all musicals do have their nekketsu element. They're really passionate, for one. Easier for the ears than screaming, too 😂
