It's a shame that she's so hidden, since her mechanic of dropping another girls' affinity by a whole level whenever she hijacks a date would have been a neat hazard if you didn't have to bend over backwards just to get her to show up. That Maeka pizza delivery event has like a 6.6% probability of happening and I was like are you serious. I had a feeling that the Maeka events has a better chance of happening when your stats are on the high side, but perhaps it's just me. And yes Kaori is a good character! Really gives the player that satisfaction.
Omg, I woke up to this wonderful surprise! :3 I prefer Tokimemo 1 over Tokimemo 2, but that's probably because I haven't been able to play it. I do like how Tokimemo 2 is very immersive!! I like that you can get different endings depending on the heroine's grades. The Childhood Mode is so adorable! I really like that you can meet the other heroines and do stuff that will affect the protagonist's stats before the game! The artstyle is very 90s bishoujo, which I like! I prefer Tokimemo 1's artstyle though. The characters are iconic! I see why the made Hikari so lovable because Shiori came off as really arrogant. I think my favorite character is Homura because she seems like a tomboy version of Yuko. The details in Tokimemo 2 is outstanding!! I really want to play this game now! I'm praying that we get English translations of the Tokimemo games for the 30th Anniversary... probably won't happen, but you never know! :>
I probably played a lot more Tokimemo 1 than 2 just for the sheer amount of ports. It has its own charm as the first in the series, and the heroines' reactions and facial expressions when they hate you are a lot better imo You nailed your impression Homura. No wonder I like Yuko. My first impression on Tokimemo 2 too, was 'wow it looks way different.'. Yet once you play it, you get the familiarity and much more. It truly is a great experience and I really hope there will be some form of English translation.

At the very least I hope it won't be a mobile gacha game like Love Plus Every. C'mon, full series modern port & localization! Not a lot of Dating Sims of the Tokimemo kind these days. Tokimemo2's a lot of fun; you should totally check it out if you liked GS.

I felt nothing for Yoshio in the first tokimemo but for some reason I REALLY love MC's friends in this game lol I could never get in their way, and I loved how the game gave you the option to set double dates with them, and how nervous Junichirou became when you teased him... I kinda wish this system carried over to girls side (idk how it is in tokimemo 3 and 4 cause I haven't played them). The rivals in gs 1 and 2 are fun, but I couldn't fully enjoy some of the guys' routes just because I loved my besties so much (especially Mizuki and Chiyomi), and then in 3 and 4 they just don't crush on anyone, which is 100% fine, but its just not the same for me(?) Btw, you know how the galge tokimemo has this thing for idols where they release lots of albums of the characters singing original songs and stuff? For some reason, my favorite song in the entire franchise is that one from the "true" ending you mentioned where none of the guys get a girlfriend, it's funny but why is it so good? (Second best is Homura's song, so damn catchy, straight out of a kids show)
I assumed a lot of players were not a fan of the rival mechanics in GS 1&2. I liked how they cut ties with you when you lie to her that you're not into her crush, then keep dating him behind her back. And oh I totally get being invested in your besties over the dudes. You look at a guy like Morimura and think, Shiho girl, you deserve way better lol The Tokimemo3 guy friends exist for the sake of being annoying(honestly I didn't care much and they're pretty funny in a game mechanics standpoint), but I love the friends in Tokimemo4. Mechanics-wise, hey work similar to GS3. One of them looks similar to Jun(same character designer too) with opposite characteristics. The other one's either gay or ace and related to finding a hidden romanceable character. Really though, the 'bad(true) ending' songs for Tokimemo 1&2 are so good. The cast for the first Tokimeki Memorial are having a reunion concert for the 30th anniversary, so I assume Ueda Yuji will singing it.
My first sim date was Tokimeki Memorial Girl's side and the sequel, I have a lot of good memories of it. My native lenguaje is spanish, so the most close to a "real sim date" when I was a kid, was playing "sim dates" made in Flash, from New grounds and Deviantart. My english was poor, but those games were my only option xddd. I remember that the most decent was Galaxy Angel sim date, and Love Hina sim date (Newgrounds) XDD. When I played for first time Tokimeki Memorial Girl's side for first time, I remember that my older sister and I were hyped, we didn't get at first time the "name system" of the game, so our first character was "Ta-" XDDD. Find out for first time that the guys can speak, AND THEIR LIPS MOVE, was blowmind at the time for us, and trying the get the protagonist withouth knowing that we needed to reach all stats was blowmind too XDDD. I could never play Tokimeki Meroial Gril's side 3, cuz my DS never read it :'D, but I could play Princess Debut, and Otometeki Koi Kakumei Love Revo (I hate this so much, cuz I never knew how to get other ending besides the one about I'm not fat anymore but I'm still single). Now day, I didn't find a sim date that I liked that much, because most of them tend to be visual novels and are not very interactive. I love the saga of tokimekmi memorial, so I'll try to play this one :3
I wasn't around much by the time Newgrounds shifted to pseudo dating sims and anime porn, and it's interesting to know how folks from different backgrounds got exposed to the dating sim genre by other means. I too prefer more interactive romance games over flag based text adventures. The particular 'raising stats to date characters' genre is pretty much dead now but you can always resort to the retro ones XD Every Tokimeki Memorial I played is all good(even 3, in its own way) and imo there were no other games in the genre to match their quality. And there were a ton of them in the 90's. It's not like I'm picking bad games to review on this channel on purpose; most of them weren't that good lol

Konami released MGS Master Collecton Vol.1 this October so they seem to need the nostalgia money. And at least they bothered to make the Tokimemo 30th Anniversary twitter. It's good to hope. Although I doubt it.

thank you for this video! TM2 is a masterpiece but there's basically no english language coverage of the game at all. I think there's a fan translation in the works so I'm optimistic that will change in the future though.
i got the secret takumi ending wish it wasn't just a dream... on that playthrough when we went to the amusement park with hikari and the japan girl i elected to ride all the rides with takumi so japan girl called me to bitch me out the following day, i was genuinely shocked and it made me feel bad irl lol. what a great game also miyuki's voice is ear splitting and i found her very annoying so of course i end up with her on my second playthrough... the ending animations are absolutely eyepopping on a CRT screen, to see such huge crisp sprites animating like that is astounding anyways this is another great vid and one i've been long awaiting, it doesn't spoil much i haven't already seen and is whetting my appetite to do more playthroughs. it was the reason i decided to start learning japanese 6+ months ago so i should probably go back and test myself on it every once in a while
I thought the same as you for Tokimemo4's 'hidden' ending. Your very nonchalant nickname for Kotoko is strangely amazing. I read that she used to be called 'samurai' during development. And she does say that Goemon(from Lupin III) line after winning a battle. I don't think she's annoying as a character, but yeah Miyuki's voice is super hard on the ears(especially with headphones), and I was impressed by the voice actress more than anything. Full voiced games are great for studying Japanese! And it's an awesome game too; you should totally do a replay!
Wow, this game really sounds a masterpiece. I wish they would put this much effort in a BL/Otome game one day. That is one annoying thing about Konami, even when the last game is a masterpiece they will take away all the mechanics that made it so unique in the next game. Tokimemo 3 seems to be very disappointing overall and Tokimemo 4 seems decent enough but can't even be compared to 1 and 2. While in Girls Side, I really liked the love rivals and brought nice drama. And 3 dropped it for instead the boys to either have a rivalry for your love or a throuple situation, and the angel/devil modes to give your MC some personality. So for 4 to have none of that not even love rivals makes the game a lot more barebones/disappointing compared to previous ones.
I find the later series had a lot of mechanics based off Tokimemo2, and added their own unique system such as Fashion in GS, Hobbies in 3, and Tokugi in 4. Thing is they nerfed the good stuff like weather and rivalries. I actually liked Tokimemo4 a lot. Scale-wise it can't be compared to 2, but I found it enjoyable. Tokimemo3 is not a bad-bad game..it had the best Chad, for one. I find it kinda similar to Meguri Aishite. The mechanics make the other things look worse. And while the toon rendered look was ahead of its time, it didn't look good imo I don't own a Switch but heard stuff from my acquaintance otomes on GS4. Right from the get-go I can see the artwork is not up to snuff compared to its predecessor. And the teacher character looks especially creepy and his hair is stupid. He 'befriends' the students, AND favours the protagonist wearing sexy outfits? Ew man.
My scorching hot take is that I prefer the first Tokimeki Memorial to the sequel, mainly because of the heroines. The cast of TM 1 is relatively bland but still very likeable, the people in 2 are bit more "in your face" and therefore often obnoxious. Homura was the best girl for me too, but I'll have to have her cancelled for that Imperial Flag! 😬 They also went way overboard with nerfing the bombs, they were an annoying but ingenious part of the first game, here they are virtually nonexistent. Maybe the most disappointing thing in TM 2 is over reliance on classical music, the soundtrack of the first game is way more memorable! At least the character themes are still good. I actually think Aitakute - Your Smiles in My Heart is the better "sequel" to Tokimemo 1. Probably not a popular opinion...! Still, a great video for a good game!

I bet you love Tokimemo3 for the hardcore bomb mechanics 😁 Some Tokimemo2 heroines do go way over the top with their quirks, but I did not find them that annoying. I know a lot of Tokimemo1 staff are in it, but I still feel sorry for comparing Aitakute to it just by the horrible artwork alone. And it's a way different game both mechanics and atmosphere (and ratings!) wise imo

thank you for this video! TM2 is a masterpiece but there's basically no english language coverage of the game at all. I think there's a fan translation in the works so I'm optimistic that will change in the future though.

on that playthrough when we went to the amusement park with hikari and the japan girl i elected to ride all the rides with takumi so japan girl called me to bitch me out the following day, i was genuinely shocked and it made me feel bad irl lol. what a great game
also miyuki's voice is ear splitting and i found her very annoying so of course i end up with her on my second playthrough...
the ending animations are absolutely eyepopping on a CRT screen, to see such huge crisp sprites animating like that is astounding
anyways this is another great vid and one i've been long awaiting, it doesn't spoil much i haven't already seen and is whetting my appetite to do more playthroughs. it was the reason i decided to start learning japanese 6+ months ago so i should probably go back and test myself on it every once in a while

Your very nonchalant nickname for Kotoko is strangely amazing. I read that she used to be called 'samurai' during development. And she does say that Goemon(from Lupin III) line after winning a battle.
I don't think she's annoying as a character, but yeah Miyuki's voice is super hard on the ears(especially with headphones), and I was impressed by the voice actress more than anything.
Full voiced games are great for studying Japanese! And it's an awesome game too; you should totally do a replay!

Wow, this game really sounds a masterpiece. I wish they would put this much effort in a BL/Otome game one day.
That is one annoying thing about Konami, even when the last game is a masterpiece they will take away all the mechanics that made it so unique in the next game. Tokimemo 3 seems to be very disappointing overall and Tokimemo 4 seems decent enough but can't even be compared to 1 and 2.
While in Girls Side, I really liked the love rivals and brought nice drama. And 3 dropped it for instead the boys to either have a rivalry for your love or a throuple situation, and the angel/devil modes to give your MC some personality. So for 4 to have none of that not even love rivals makes the game a lot more barebones/disappointing compared to previous ones.
I find the later series had a lot of mechanics based off Tokimemo2, and added their own unique system such as Fashion in GS, Hobbies in 3, and Tokugi in 4. Thing is they nerfed the good stuff like weather and rivalries.
I actually liked Tokimemo4 a lot. Scale-wise it can't be compared to 2, but I found it enjoyable.
Tokimemo3 is not a bad-bad game..it had the best Chad, for one. I find it kinda similar to Meguri Aishite. The mechanics make the other things look worse. And while the toon rendered look was ahead of its time, it didn't look good imo
I don't own a Switch but heard stuff from my acquaintance otomes on GS4. Right from the get-go I can see the artwork is not up to snuff compared to its predecessor.
And the teacher character looks especially creepy and his hair is stupid. He 'befriends' the students, AND favours the protagonist wearing sexy outfits? Ew man.

My scorching hot take is that I prefer the first Tokimeki Memorial to the sequel, mainly because of the heroines. The cast of TM 1 is relatively bland but still very likeable, the people in 2 are bit more "in your face" and therefore often obnoxious. Homura was the best girl for me too, but I'll have to have her cancelled for that Imperial Flag! 😬
They also went way overboard with nerfing the bombs, they were an annoying but ingenious part of the first game, here they are virtually nonexistent. Maybe the most disappointing thing in TM 2 is over reliance on classical music, the soundtrack of the first game is way more memorable! At least the character themes are still good.
I actually think Aitakute - Your Smiles in My Heart is the better "sequel" to Tokimemo 1. Probably not a popular opinion...!

Some Tokimemo2 heroines do go way over the top with their quirks, but I did not find them that annoying.
I know a lot of Tokimemo1 staff are in it, but I still feel sorry for comparing Aitakute to it just by the horrible artwork alone. And it's a way different game both mechanics and atmosphere (and ratings!) wise imo
i adore TM2's music. the summer break music in particular makes me feel things not a lot of music makes me feel
@@bapsago Heh heh...maybe TM 2 is just too polished to my tastes, there's something special in the experimental roughness of both TM 1 and Aitakute that I like...!
And yeah, I even did enjoy TM 3, although it is objectively pretty bad...the bombs ain't nothing compared to the clothing in that! 😂
@@mycophobia I also do like the soundtrack! I just think there's way too much classical covers in it. Especially after playing Little King's Story, a game with nothing but classic music in its music selection, I was getting a bit tired when another "heard it before" started to play...

첨에 아카네가 사키타입 캐릭터인줄알고 공략했는데 아니여서 당황했던 기억이 있네요ㅋㅋ 아무튼 귀엽기도하고 캐릭이 마음에들어서 좋긴했는데
전 이래저래 캐릭들은 2쪽이 더 호감가더라구요 캐릭터 컨셉이나 스토리같은게 더 명확해졌달까 해서 더 정감가던..
3는...안하고 그냥 GS쪽으로 스킵했는데 최근에 GS4나온김에 이쪽도 이식이나 리마스터같은거 안해주나~하는 기대가있습니다..
저도 아카네 좋아해요! 다른 애들 컨셉들도 너무 흔하지 않되 밸런스있게 잘 잡았고.
영문 댓글들 보면 너무 개성이 강해서(...) 수수한 1탄 애들이 낫다, 미유키가 짜증난다 하시는 분들도 있던데, 전 진짜 그런 생각 없었거든요(미유키야 목소리가 그렇긴 한데 캐릭터로선 평범한 축이고). 딱 당대 미소녀타입들이기도 했고.. 아무래도 문화권도 있겠고, 우리가 발매 당시 플레이했던 오덕..아니 게이머라 그런지 인상 차이가 확 나는게 흥미로웠습니다.
진짜 최신기종 이식 제발 해줬음 좋겠어요 ㅠㅠ 가챠게나 성우랑 작화 갈아엎은 평범한 리메이크면 머릿속에서 밥상 엎을거임

And we all know Konami would never do that 🥲 There was a Konami Dating Sim(Aitakute) with romanceable Otokonoko and guy characters but the artwork was super horrible.
