- What's going on Noobs? Here's a way to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of Hollow Knight's release. It's time to talk about the fourth Pantheon of Godhome in Hollow Knight's Godmaster DLC, The Pantheon of the Knight and the boss at its end, my favorite boss in all of Hollow Knight: Pure Vessel.

Just wanted to say by this point you already have the god master mode and in that mode in the hall of gods all bosses are available so you can practice against Pure vessel before entering the pantheon.

You actually have to encounter PV once from the pantheon so they will be unlocked. Just like encountering the other bosses to unlock them in the Hall Of Gods. From there you can practice PV as much as you want!

This is the boss that when you beat him you go "I know you've got a sad past but screw you and your two masks of damage with a rusty nail".
Ah, Pure Vessel. Easily my favorite boss. The fight was so painful at first, but after I got it down, it became so much fun.
Also I have never noticed the cool floating rocks during PV's Focus. Thanks for showing me that they're there :)
Right? Despite my struggles against them early on, Pure Vessel very quickly became my number one boss. :D

My first loss in Pantheon of Hallownest was to this bugger, I was ENTIRELY unprepared for this fight, the lack of floor did so much to mess with me... Then I lost to NKG because I apparently forgot how to fight him.. Then Finally got to Radiance and.... Didn't go well. Still have yet to beat it in the hall of gods.. (kinda gave up, but got to the last phase a few times at least... yay?)
@@ExileTwilight Yeah, all it takes is a ton of practice. BTW, you can fight the Pantheon version of Markoth in the Hall of Gods -- Select the *_Ascended_* difficulty.
@@bowserjjumetroid3645 I know, went there after to practice until I could beat his ascended form two-three times in a row consistently (same with Pure Vessel when I got to him)
@@ExileTwilight Nice! I mean, that's exceptional. Even though I've already beaten the *Pantheon of Hallownest,* I still don't have consistent victories with Ascended Markoth -- he's a prick, honestly. A cowardly (or idiotic), RNG based prick.
@@bowserjjumetroid3645 Markoth has the worst boss fight in the entire game, although that isnts saying much since most of the fights are amazing, Markoth stands against everything the other bosses stand for, no consistency, heavy reliance on rng, lack of flooring only amplifies the problems, and no choreography to follow. Its awful and poorly designed

Descending dark is the best way to dodge attacks

I've already said this a while back but I think I'll say it again because this is on an actual video about Pure Vessel
On the Godhome statues they all give a hint on where to find them, each of them using a personal pronoun (for instance, Soul Master's hint is "Immortal, I rule the Sanctum"), and if they don't use the word "I" they use the word "we." The only exception to this rule is the Pure Vessel, whose hint says "This empty god stands at a Pantheon's peak." I think it's a really cool reference to the fact that the Pure Vessel has no voice to cry suffering, and thus could not use a personal pronoun

I just want to say I love how the Pure Vessel holds their Nail: I expected the Vessel in their prime to hold it in a typical knight stance, but they instead have it in reverse grip as if using a more exotic fighting style. It is honestly a stance I wish we got more of in games.
-8:21 Cloth's club will not appear on the arena if you haven't fought Traitor Lord with Cloth, and the grave will not have delicate flowers if you haven't finished that quest.
-12:55 Yeah... the ground... i miss it so much...
Pure Vessel and Nightmare King Grimm are very similar, so if you mastered NKG and are used to fast paced attacks, you should be able to take down PV(in hall of gods) after 5-10 tries at most;
-Clearly telegraphed but extremely fast attacks that will destroy you until you master every single one
-No attack ever overlaps one another
But Pure Vessel's biggest difference is that PV never leaves the arena outside of teleporting to the other side(which leaves you no room to breathe), which makes the fight end so much faster even though the fight itself is objectively harder because the moves themselves are harder to dodge and the delay between each attack is much smaller.

One thing i thought about the lore of the pure vessel is that him breaking out of the armor on the beggining of the fight might be a representation that he was able to let go of his feelings and affection towards the pale king that in the real world made him fall for the radiance.

If he did the entire fight in his armour when we first see him I would probably adore him.
So I kinda relied on these vids for several endgame bosses, and then I got to pure vessel and had such a tough time. Turns out, there wasn’t a video on this boss yet :(

It is only fitting that, on this game's 3 year anniversary, we get the penultimate Boss Guide of Hollow Knight. It's been a fun time, but I will indeed be sad once the finale of the series airs who-knows-when. Until then, happy 3 year anniversary, little ghost and purest vessel!
I've already done the 5th pantheon and stuff but its still pretty interesting watching these for all the attacks in slow motion and the analysis

Absolute favorite boss, it’s almost like NKG on steroids. Almost. His attacks are faster, he stuns less often, there are no ways to know when he’s in a new phase other than seeing the new attacks, mobility is absolutely vital, timing is essential, and everything just seems to tie together for a perfect, concentration-demanding fight. That’s just the gameplay, though. The music and visuals are absolutely incredible. The music tells its own story and the visuals of the arena and its attacks show the dedication the Pure Vessel had to its purpose of being the entity worthy of containing a furious god. I am way too passionate about this boss.

I really like quickslash in this pantheon. It helps me get through the watcher knights easier, which is my biggest roadblock to getting to PV consistently

I always love how Pale Vessel looks
This is very late, but for me, Sharp Shadow was a needed charm. It helps in many fights such as: Enraged Guardian, Traitor Lord, Watcher Knights, and also even Pure Vessel. (My charms were Shaman Stone, Strength, Mark of Pride, and Sharp Shadow.) Hope the build helps! :)

Perpetual Noob I completed it a couple days ago and on my pure vessel fight I was down to one mask, so I did a lot of the fights hitless. You could say I was freaking out

Thank you SO much for making these videos. I actually have hand disabilities, so video games, though my passion, have never been my forte. If it were not for the insight of these videos, I would still be stuck trying to beat the broken vessel. I hope these videos are not to hard to make. Just a little tip: if anyone has any free charm spaces I found (of all the charms) spore shroom will insta-kill the radiance balloons, so when you need to heal while lost Kin is staggered, you don’t have to worry about anything else hitting you.
Spore Shroom works as does Defender's Crest. 🙂

Finally... I can already beat this boss, but this is still a handy guid video to watch.
That triple slash attack costed me a lot of Pantheon of the Hallownest runs. There is barely enough time to jump and pogo that shit. You need to be prepared for that fcking attack before he raises his nail on the back. When you see the animation, it's probably too late, just shadow dash into him and pray.
Shadow dashing into them is another solid strategy. Hence why I mention it. :)
I'm sure you can jump over it like a pro now, though. That was one move I somehow figured out on my own from the start, just jump and start swinging for your pogo as soon as PV reaches you (so your nail is already out when PV's nail would have hit you), and you've got a practically guaranteed parry for you and usually some damage for PV. If you're not sure for whatever reason, play it safe and double-jump over and hit PV from behind only.
Late reply, but you can also use the parry mechanic to avoid it even if you jump late. It's very tight, but you can trigger a parry with a downstrike that gives you just enough i-frames (if you're high enough) to get out of the hitbox before taking damage. If you're too low you'll get the parry, but still take damage. With enough practise you can hit this parry on command.
Shadow dashing is safer, but I instinctively jump the triple slash so I don't get screwed if my dash is on cooldown.
Honestly, Pure Vessel is such a cool character that I didn't even care that I got my butt kick multiple times trying to defeat them.
If you havent done it yet, try sharpshadow, dashmaster (+50% damage on sharpshadow), unbrekable strenght and honny blood. No joke it's the best setting. Dash trought all his attack, hit him when you can and avoid getting hit within a 10 second window.
Hear me out. Primal Aspid. On Radiant. JK great video! One of the greatest bosses!

Finally defeated this pantheon and also defeated pure vessel 3 damn times in the training hall.
That was so damn hard.
I have like 162 hrs so far in the game but I finally was able to do it.
Good luck to everyone that still tries to do this pantheon.
Imma take a break from the hallownest one and just do it so far that I can unlock sisters of battle and nosk version 2.

One tip I'd give is, when you're in or near the edge of the arena, be mentally prepared to dodge towards the center. With other attacks, it doesn't really matter, but with Soul Pillars, it's crucial. This might seem silly/obvious, but it really helped me a ton and took me a lot of dying to learn.
I love how he actually looks like an older Vessel, which he is. His horns are all grown out and he still wears the same cloak, just tattered by growth

I usually defeat pure vessel using the tactic "air is lava, floor is safe". I use sharp shadow and dash through all of their attacks, at the end of the dash I either stand in front of pv and attack them, or dash back (using usual dach, not shadow dash) towards them and strike their back. It requires timing, but for me it feels much safer than jumping over and using nail pogo.
After learning this fight I started to not use shadow dash in most of the fights, because I always have that paranoid feeling that it won't recharge in time :D

Cabo Pineforest the air is not lava, the floor is. Jump and pogo almost every attack, the only ones you don’t wanna pogo is the circle attack, and the knife shoot attack. Every other attack you wanna stay in the air and pogo, dash for the knife throw attack, and double jump for the tentacle attack.
Xplosives I know I know. It's just two completely different tactics, and I use the least popular one. Just because it is possible. Even for radiant. I tried.
Yeah, that's why I show both options because shadow dashing through Pure Vessel is just as viable as jumping over. :)

And yes, Pure Vessel is best boss and deserves all the hugs (would probably be the first time they ever were hugged).
Perpetual Noob fun fact: right now, when I'm writing this, I'm in the pantheon, looking at the failed champion who is lying on the floor and resting before nkg fight. And that trick worked! Thank you again

I love how the arena is not only filled with chains but also how you see the energy from the seals and void particles
I like to think that th reason the PV doesn't have a boss yell is because he is actually singing the theme
I mean, that would be pretty incredible if they were able to make any noise, especially sing beautifully.
Sharp shadow probably carried in this fight. The longer dash makes it way easier to dodge attacks. Probably the only reason i beat pure vessel in under 30 tries

Wall of text incoming! Pure vessel is such an amazing boss. The fact that he seems like such an insurmountable task when fighting him for the first time makes finally defeating him feel so satisfying, especially if you can manage to do it on radiant difficulty. (God I hate the void tendrils though, I swear I lost around 60% of my radiant battles against him to that attack!). I’d personally recommend sharp shadow and shaman stone as sharp shadow allows you to get more hits in and it is possible to double hit him with vengeful spirit after some attacks. Oh and great video, you deserve to have way more subscribers!
Yeah Pure Vessel is definitely one of the best bosses in the game.

It's one of the hardest fights in the game that's for sure. After suffering an great amount of defeats my hate for him only grew and when i finally killed him... It was amazing. I Hope he burns in the worst place in hell. I literally cant feel Sad for him anymore.

I find it annoying when people say pure vessel is unfair. In reality he’s about on par with NKG in my opinion. He’s probably the best boss in Godmaster and maybe at least third in the game as a whole. I fear no boss but Absolute Radiance, that thing scares me.
Cookie Cat and what about markoth, especially ascended and radiant? And no eyes and uumuu with no floor, they can be unfair too

Pure vessel was a tricky one to overcome, especially after having to deal with my least favourite bosses (markoth and the watcher knights), but god DAMN was it an amazing fight. the music, the arena, everything!
Fun fact: the only fights/characters that can parry are ones that are related to the pale king

Hollow knight
Us (duh)
Hornet
I guess parrying is a royal move
Edit: ok now I realize that nailmaster oro and mato can do it but that’s the only exception

@@lilshrimp0628 I was thinking the same thing when I read that, but I think what the OP more accurately _means_ is that only the Pale King's offspring have a nail-based counter attack that *starts* with a parry. First Hornet 2 and Broken Vessel/Lost Kin, then Hollow Knight/Pure Vessel. I've noticed they all use (their own variation on) this move as well, though I can't remember for sure if they're definitely the only ones in the game who do.
*edit* (not sure, but I think only Lost Kin and not Broken Vessel has that move btw)

@@lilshrimp0628 the nail is said to be a traditional weapon of hallownest so it kinda makes sense that everyone who counters with a nail or a needle in hornets case are royalty or related to royalty and the non Royal nailwielders are the nailmasters

Also, going off of my theory in the previous video, Pure Vessel was likely saved here because they were so important under the Pale King before the Godseekers were locked away, and given their connection to the Pale King, once they got them back they were elated.
Sharp Shadow was very helpful for me during the pantheon. Especially Enraged Guardian and Watcher Knights

descending dark works really well during the void tendrals and spike floor attack for PV, I also prefer to parry the triple slash twice to get more damage in, but it is harder. Hope this helps!
NKJ depends on patterns and memorization , while PV depends on reflexes
Also PV took me a few hours to beat , but once you stop worrying , he’s actually really fun
Just beat Pantheon of the Knight today and I feel amazing.
I beat Pure Vessel with Quick Focus, Quick Slash, Mark of Pride, Sharp Shadow and a whole lot of blood sweat and tears. It basically took me a week to beat because I am awful at the game.
Same here, just beat it tonight. My setup was the same as yours but with heart instead of sharp shadow. I really like being able to tank 1 extra hit from double damage bosses, since I facetank way too much. I think I spent 5 days on this, good job to you as well. Pantheon of Hallownest here I come!

That explosion attack is either a blessing or a curse, it’s a blessing if those smaller circles allow for a space to heal a mask if needed, but your timing window is very narrow so you have to heal right away but if RNG isn’t on your side than one of those smaller circles will be right on you to take double damage, sad. Plus it’s really bad rng when he does dash into a triple slash, especially when you’re a dasher

i reccomend knowing how to kill hollow knight before even getting near pure vessel because if you cant beat hollow knight you wont even beat pure vessel

Difficulty: Insane
Damage: 2 masks
I finally beat it on Radiant after losing about half a dozen rounds to getting surprise headbutted by the stagger animation
Update: just no-hit it with the nail and shell bindings while completing those. I am good at this game

I have been waiting for this
I still find the Nightmare King more fun myself, but I have warmed up to this boss a bit. My first impression of them was just... Awful, honestly.
But it's funny, I had an "awful" first impression against the Nightmare King too with a 12 loss streak my first attempt, yet I quickly grew to love that boss regardless and consistently beat him without taking damage for fun. I just... I don't click nearly as well with this boss. I think it has to do with how many "variables" are in the fight. Namely with the teleporting. NKG does not chain attacks together like PV can; PV _can_ and *_will_* chain attacks together, especially with its teleporting. The thing that tripped me up consistently was its teleport-soul pillar attack because of how *_FAST_* that initial dive comes out right after it teleports. Pretty much if I ever saw PV teleport, I had to be moving to consistently avoid its soul pillar dive afterwards because of how unbelievably fast it was. And I also suck at dodging those "fixed area attacks" like that as well; I tend to panic and "overcorrect" and wind up bumping into an attack. I do this with NKG too, and it irritates me heavily... Though that's entirely my fault.
Up next... There are things I can say I don't like in this game as much as others (Pure Vessel, Hornet, the mapping system), but there is very little in this game I can point to and explicitly say I hate.
The thing coming up is one of those things.
Yeah, I understand. It's kind of cool how just a couple changes from one boss to the next can make a fight completely different. Just another element to this game that I love. :)

A mistake i tend to make often against PV is dashing too high during the soul daggers attack and hitting the last dagger. This should help.

As anyone else ever been fighting the hollow knight and during the Bouncing Balloon attack, instead of floating up in the air and slamming to the floor, it just slid across the floor while doing the animations?

I think the cape was made out of something like, a statue, or glass, or something like that, maybe it was too heavy for pure vessel to fight with, so he broke out of it to gain more agility, and we can confirm it is not soft material since it makes a cracking sound and shatters into bits and pieces.
Well certainly the pauldrons were not soft. And yeah, perhaps the whole piece was more for show and never meant for battle. 🙂
Ah, and about charms! Nail Master's Glory is pretty much required if you want to use Nail Arts regularly, which can be relevant on bosses where reach is sensitive (Markoth) or single big hits are nice (Nightmare Grimm). Do note a few things about Nail Arts:
-Nail Arts see no benefit from Unbreakable Strength or range increase from Mark of Pride
-Nail Arts generate the same Soul as single slashes, except Cyclone which multi-hits
I'd consider Nail Master's Glory for spell-centric builds, as it allows the Knight to have some relevant nail damage without needing the notch slots for Quick Slash, Strength, and Mark of Pride -- it won't match their damage, but it gives slots for Shaman Stone, Twister, and/or some relevant survival charms while still being able to drop a Great Slash on a teleport-happy opponent like No Eyes.
Nailmaster's Glory in a spell-focused build is a real neat idea for a 1-notch Charm. 😃

Yeah. Pure Vessel can jump randomly. It is rare but they will do it at times. Definitely surprising.

A sort of interesting note on the Dream Warriors: they can be pushed up against platforms as long as they don't spawn inside them. This means, with proper placement, No Eyes and Markoth can be held in place so you can rush them down.
For the Pure Vessel fight - if you prefer dodging with Shade Cloak, keep your distance between attacks. Pure Vessel's attacks are so quick that you may need a little extra time to recharge the Shade Cloak.

Alright, this is a great video for newcomers, but one bit I want to add: Vessel responds to your hits. You may sometimes notice that your shadow dash doesn't always come back up before his next attack; Pure Vessel has a small wait time between attacks which is about as long as your shadow's cooldown, but if you hit him during that wait time, he will use his next attack immediately. This is relevant especially to the parry and triple slash: if you parry and shade behind him, then attack him after his swing has ended, he could use an attack like triple slash while your shade is still on cooldown.
This is not relevant when Vessel is mid-attack, but I've had more than one run where this became relevant, like dashing through a triple slash, attacking, and getting triple slashed again. It's also relevant during Focus, as if you throw a projectile at him after the attack is 'done' but the orbs haven't blasted yet, he could launch another attack while the orbs are still on screen.
To your first paragraph: interesting. I hadn't noticed a change in attack frequency when putting the guide together but that doesn't mean it's not true. I'm going to check that out. 🙂
To your second paragraph: They will always begin an attack again before the small explosions are done. 🙂 Unless you're saying they start another attack almost immediately after being hit during Focus. That would be new behavior I never saw and would certainly make the fight even more exciting. 🙂
@@PerpetualNoob Absolutely! The best attack to check this out on, at least I find, is the projectiles.
If he launches projectiles, he'll hang out just a second after he lowers his arm, provided you sit tight and don't attack during his 'idle' time. If he's attacked after lowering his arm, he'll either teleport or start a new attack immediately.
Hitting him with his arm still raised has no effect -- he'll still be "mid-attack", and won't respond. I'd often dash through the projectiles, and either swing while his arm was still up, or wait until he was going to teleport/attack naturally to take a swing.
It's noticeable, because if you just wait out the 'idle' time, it looks like you would have had time to pull off multiple attacks, but if you attack, he won't give you time for even a second swing. I only noticed because I tend to lean on shadow dash I-frames too much!

I absolutely love Pure Vessel, and was absolutely happy to see that his attacks seemed similar to those of his new attacks within the present of Hollow Knight. His Soul daggers became those blobs of infection, his soul pillars became his infection spike/pillars, almost all of his attacks have some way to be linked to his present body. Now that's something I rarely see when I play a game where I fight a person not once, but twice. Once in their prime status and once when they were old and tired

I just defeated PV 3 times before this video came... in the hall of gods XD.
I'll try the charms you suggested, but before this vid, I was using Strength, Quick Slash, Mark of Pride, and Sharp Shadow, not targeted at PV mostly, but targeted at the other bosses so that I could survive with as much masks as I possibly can.

In my own head Canon, the version of the Hollow Knight that meets with hornet, during one of the endings of God Master, is the pure Vessel since the corruption disappeared along with absolute radiance's death. I hope we'll see them team up or something in silksong
Based on what we saw in trailers I wouldn't be so hopeful. But Team Cherry could do basically anything so IDK! Maybe they'll team up!
