My skin has been THROUGH IT these last few months!! 😩 But I finally found a routine that works for me and hopefully this video helps you if you’re struggling with a damaged skin barrier too!! 💕
Hi Michelle, I hope you are well. I just wanted to ask did you get fine lines all over your body when your skin barrier was stripped off? How long did it take for you skin barrier to heal?
Hi do you have any suggestions for the same kind of your skin but also have open pores please if you have share with me because I genuinely like your this video as i have the same skin type yours but also the open pores
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've watched your video about 6 month ago and got the products you've mentioned. My skin is clear, hydralized and I can't believe how quickly it changed. Additionally I've started to drink 2,5 litres per day and oh boy - do I glow! Thanks!!
thank you for sharing this! i struggled w so much w redness and finally realized i have a severe dust and mold allergy 🙃 now i deep clean weekly and with a mask on hehe. would add that the dr jart’s masks are all so good but the soothing hydra solution is holy grail for me! it’s so soothing and you can feel an immediate restoration to your barrier. 💙
A warning about this particular allergy, you may start to react in the future (or may have already since it's been 9 months) to citric acid. This is often used to preserve things like pickles but it's in A LOT. So watch out for that. Keep doing a food journal, but I'd also get into an allergist.
What did you do to fix your skin ?? I've been dealing with a damaged moisture barrier for the past six months and I don't know what I'm doing wrong and I see no end in sight.
Hey Naariah! Its almost 3 years and i am still struggling with impaired skin barrier. How did you recover from it after so many years? Can you please tell us what were your allergies?
In addition, a healthy skin barrier heals faster when the skin is wounded. I once dermaplained my face, and it had so many mini cuts. My cuts healed so fast.
It's tragic.. as we age, we become allergic to something we were never allergic to before. It doesn't happen to most everyone and it rarely happens but it does happen.
Oatmeal & goat milk mask helps. Just mix them together and put them on your face for 15 mins. I used avène cleanser for senstive skin and their moisturizer and it healed after a few days
Also quick note: You might also want to talk to your dermatologist when you get a flareup. They can help you so much and if you're lucky, your insurance covers your prescribed products :) For me: Well I had the worst allergic skin reaction a week before my prom and nothing helped, but my doctor, bless her soul, prescribed me 2 cortisone / steroid creams and gave me free samples of La Roche Posay creams. My skin cleared up within two days and I still have my prescribed creams for whenever I get allergic flareups. Can't ever hurt to talk to your derm, on that note, they might even conduct an allergy test for you so you know which allergens to look out for :)
Great point! I'm so glad your derm was able to help, especially in time for prom!! 😱☺️ Seeing a dermatologist is always a good idea for skin concerns like this. I don't have a dermatologist right now though, so I had to try to figure out my cause and a solution on my own 😅 But I did have one 4-5 years ago when I still lived back home and he gave me a steroid cream for a reaction I had and it helped a TON! But I do get kind of hesitant to use steroid creams because I don't want to become reliant on them since it can trigger topical steroid withdrawal (TSW). It's a rare occurrence, but still. But yeah they definitely can do allergy tests too which would also help tons!
@@MichelleKanemitsu Oh that's a pity! For me...I also kind of didn't have a go-to derm. I just wrote a very desperate email to the derm's office and got an appointment that way😅 But maybe that's different in every country. And thank you so much for thematizing TSW. I kinda forgot it exists. It's definitely an important concern and in order to avoid it, one should stick to the doc's treatment plan and stop treatment when the doctor says one should stop! Extending treatment longer than the doctor recommends, using treatment more often than recommended or using too strong stuff increases the probability of TSW. And abt the allergy test...bro it sucks so much that allergies can wreak such havoc over perfectly fine skin. And the allergy doesn't even need to be about something you put on your skin, like in your case oranges / the orange peel oil. If someone can't figure out the cause of their skin reaction by isolating products, allergies like dust mites or pollen could also be the culprit. At least that was the case for me. Allergies just SUCKKKK
Thank you So much for taking the time to share your experience and the products you used to cure your skin. The dermatology is a way out and expensive! I was feeling so frustrated and now I’ve calmed down. I realize it’s going to go away, it’s just gonna take some time. Thank You! Have a Wonderful Day🌈❤️
I also experienced this a year ago, and because of that I went to my allergologist for allergy skin testing and found out that I was allergic to "Soy" and "Milk" -.- I also consulted my dertamologist and my holy grail for skin care at that time is the aveeno dermexa, cetaphil, and avene thermal spray 😍
I'm glad you were able to figure out your causes! I need to do that too. I took an allergy test 4-5 years ago from my old dermatologist, but oranges weren't on the list. So I definitely need to take a new test! I also love Aveeno and Cetaphil! They're amazing for my sensitive skin 💕
I e been going through this for 1 year and finally figured it out. I moved back home , was living in Florida and no skin issues. Winters are tough in New England. I noticed my eyes were getting red and itchy and my skin looked blotchy and dry. I went tanning a few times in a salon off and on too. Also, started exfoliating w/ homemade sugar honey coconut oil scrub. Went to allergist for eyes and they told me I was allergic to luminene which is also citrus and essentially all things w/ fragrance. Threw away all creams and make up. Took me almost a year to realize I had broken skin barrier which tanning and exfoliating would make worse. Finally stared smearing aquaphor w/ cortisone on face and eyelids and cleared up in 2 days.
Hey, I hope you are doing well. I am allergic to citric acid. And my skin barrier got damaged due to it. And still suffering. It seems you went through a similar issue. Could you please suggest what helped you overcome this problem m
I went thru this as well two months ago! I was totally baffled by how inflame and drying my skin was 😭 I assume I allergic to lavender oil cuz I have two skincare that has the ingredient. it wasn't show immediately but after 2-3 weeks of use, I notice my skin gets drier, more sensitive and just doesn't feels good? so I had to stop everything and use a very bland the 3 basic skincare. I had to skip sunscreen cuz it makes my skin irritated. however I protect my skin with umbrella & hat! I keep the simple routine for 4 weeks and slowly get into my regular routine again. of course I already get rid of the potential allergen skincare. now it's better!
I’m glad it got better!! It’s a great idea to just use a simple 2 or 3 step basic routine when you experience a reaction. Then you can slowly introduce other products again! I hope you don’t experience another reaction! 🙏💕
Hi there! I also had the same reaction to Garnier vitamin c serum. I stopped using it after 2 days, and my skin is really going through the most. Please share how your skin is doing now, and what you did to fix your skin( assuming that it’s sorted).
@@venusrose1382 my skin is all good now! I had to really simplify my routine and not use so many active ingredients every day. I treat my skin when I notice it needs something rather than sticking to a strict routine throughout the week. I added toner and essence in my routine and it has made a HUGE difference. Cleanse-toner-essence-moisturizer. Then if I notice any skin concerns, I add in my serum after I apply essence. My skin has never been this clear in my life. Forgot to add: identifying your skin type is so important. I follow Beauty Within, and those two women are phenomenal on educating you about skin concerns and effective products. Hope this helps!!🙏🏽🤙🏽🌺
Thanks for the tips. I'm struggling with this atm and think it's vitamin C (though I didn't have this problem before I used retinol once a week but days I use vit C serum it flares up) I don't use toner or essence so would appreciate recommenedations what products (or even ingredients) did/do you use?
@@Guguchinasorry I forget to put it in order: after cleansing, I use Isntree green tea toner, Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Essence, Sioris mugwort essence, and then moisturize.
Vitamin c and retinol were the verdicts of my skin allergies. I've been using them for 4+years. 😢 I switched to using products that cause minimal irritation (niacinamide, bakuchiol, centella, and snail mucin). My skin has been better since then. Sadly the reaction left my eyelids dark.
HAIIII BEAUTYYYYYY!!! I'm really proud to be here since biore strip, re-decor room, summer haul and back to school outfit. From wondering who's the guy with you till I know its kyle. When you stop making video, I'm started lookin at your insta and hope you well. And now here we are. Hope you and kyle more happier and healthier. I love you guys🥺🥰🥰

This is exactly how my face has been the past few years!! And now I’m on my second flare up after 1 day of recovering. Idk what causes it. It all started after pregnancy with my child!
Before i turned 23 my skin was so glamorous like i was always only using a simple face cream since i was 14-15 But after i turned 23 i got such redness on my left side of my face it itches and burns even sometimes also i got like red bumbs here and there as if its acne… today im 26 and i still got all this redness on my face which wont go away I JUST MISS PPL GIVING ME COMPLIMENTS HOW PRETTY MY SKIN IS…. i guess the older u get the problematic ur life starts to be
Nah, you got a long life ahead of you and you are bound to find a skincare routine that works for you. Keep at it, consult a derm or experts if you need. I just turned 41 and I get more compliments on my skin now than when I was in high school. Because I found a good skin care routine and am healthier (after many years of being sick).
What has caused your skin to become red ? I used a moisturizer that messed up by face. I now have red, dry and itchy cheeks and don’t know what to do. The doctor recommended cortisone Creme and I’ve used it a few times but I stopped because I’m terrified of the potential side effects. I wonder if it will improve if I would let it alone and don’t use anything for a few weeks.
I swear this is exactly what I'm going through too! Until 23 my skin was perfect. Just a facewash and my skin was magical. I guess it's the hormonal changes, also face razor was a curse for my skin.
I had similar experiences with vit c skincare, both as a moisturiser and as a serum. I wouldn't use it again if it were the only available option in the market.
Well well well.. Another one - Discovered Double Cleansing, bought Skin1004 Cleansing Oil and it fucked up my skin for like a 2 months. Now I just use Foaming Soon Jung cleasner, it removes sunscreen and is gentle.
I've damaged my skin barrier by using retinol, and now my pores suddenly look bigger. Please tell me they're gonna go back to normal once my skin barrier heals, oh please I'm freaking out
Can you please update? Same happened to me I'm losing it literally i never had large pores I'm dry skin type and used retinol for pigmentation i stopped after 5 uses I'm so scared my face feels scaly and bumpy i hate it
@@maryr23 tbh. Mine never got better. But i wouldn't want you to repeat my mistakes. Don't let any active near your face for a good three months. Heal your moisture barrier by using a gentle cleanser like cerave only in the PM , then a moisturizer preferably with ceramides and then sunscreen. Keep it simple for three months. You'll thank me. You can use occlusives (like Vaseline) or hydrating serum (like hyaluronic acid) to speed up the healing process.
Your pores wil go back once the barrier is fully restored do not panic! It’s bc the barrier is weak so the pores are out and open!! Don’t worry!! It happened to me - stop using oils too
My skin got so much better while using cosrx snail muccin. I have open pores and texture skin issues please suggest me what products to use to solve this issues.
I’m glad it worked well for you too! 😊 I know some people say the snail mucin doesn’t work for them, but everyone’s skin is different! And I would say to use a gentle exfoliator, maybe something with BHA in it to help with pores and texture. But I’m not a dermatologist! If you have a derm, I’d ask them :)
Cerave is my favorite cleanser. At first, I tried not to use it bec I thought it was just the internet hype. But my skin barrier was compromised once. So i tried it. And i understood the reason why it was hyped. And it is different from Cetaphil. Sincw then, I've been buying big cantainers of it bec I know I will love and finish it
@@daniellaromeo9443foaming cleanser that works for normal to oily skin and the other one that works for normal to dry skin, both have ceramide, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide that's good for skin barrier.
I've been suspecting niacinamide that's causing me a reaction - itchy bumps, red sensitized skin - so I stopped using it. Sad cos a lot of products contain niacinamide 😂 and I didn't think it's the one that's been giving me these reactions. So I'm going back to basics to fix my skin barrier
Did your red skin improve ? I used a moisturizer that messed up my face. My cheeks are red, dry and itchy too sometimes. Idk what to do. My dermatologist recommended cortisone and I used it a few times but I’m terrified of the side effects. I used some other moisturizers too but they didn’t really work ? Will it get better if I just leave my skin alone and don’t use anything ?
Ceramidin cream worked the best with my differin treatment . Tried CeraVe cream , Skinfix lipid peptides cream , Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream , Laneige Waterbank cream, Olehenriksen Barrier Strengthening cream . While correcting team with SPF from Dr.Jart + was the worst product ever ! Glad this cream worked for u as well . Are u still using it ?
Happening to me atm but my reaction is due to a certain mask material (i work in healthcare) and was lookong for solution and ended up with your video. Might try using some of these products. Hopefully it'll work 😢
Thanks, some days I don’t like wearing sunscreen on my face so I would wear a hat that can block the sun rays, and this is how I started wearing hats. They can make a great accessory to your outfit.
I had this tomato face too, i used the ordinary 30% aha + 2% bha and directly after 10% niacinamid... my skin was dry like a toast and peeled off. I recovered with hydrating moisturiser and ceramides only 😅
How long did your skin take to heal ? 6 weeks ago I damaged the skin on my cheeks by using a moisturizer. I’ve made it much worse by plucking hairs on my cheeks while they were irritated which worsened the redness significantly. It’s been 6 weeks now and not healed even after using hydrocortisone for 7 days. It lessened the redness but gave me side effects so I stopped using it.
I personally wish there were more options without hyloronic acid. I tend to not react great to things with that ingredient. I like the la roche posay toleraine cleanser and moisturizer. Neither contain hyloronic acid
Guys if you have an irritated skin and have nothing that help with apply a thick layer of Vaseline at night believe or not does work .but yes not as a permanent solution but help with irritation.
Omg! Khiels facial wash did this to my skin. I use to have oily skin but now after 2 weeks of using khiels my face became dry itchy rough and very dry.
Hey, just found your channel and love your videos. Your skin looks amazing!! I was wondering if you're still on the birth control pill as I'm considering going on it to help with my acne but so scared it will make it worse when I come off it! Thank you xox
Hi, thanks for the video. I’m going through damaged skin barrier due to a second degree sunburn last August 2022 and it keeps flaring up after being in just a tiny bit of sun, steam, and hot heat. My skin is papery thin now and soooo delicate. It burns when I eat hot foods and hot showers. How long did it take your barrier to fully come back?
You may be dealing with Roscea,/ autoimmune issues. You should probably mention to your doctor and she may order simple blood work to determine that. You'll want to be aware of the possibility earlier in your life rather than later, as it can be responsible for a wide variety of issues that may pop up, that at first may not be related. I just got over my first time having Covid, and the day I finally tested negative, I woke up with a very very severe facial rash that looked like a combination bad bad sunburn with some poison ivy thrown it. It itched and burned like nothing I had ever experienced. After an ER visit, PCP, and dermatologist visit, it has finally calmed down and my eyes and face aren't blown up and puffy. My skin had never been as red and raw before. The ONLY thing I am still putting on my face that doesn't burn and sting is straight milk or half and half. It has been traumatic, and I'm expecting it may flare up again if I'm not careful. Doctors believe it may have been my body's over reaction to Covid. Went into high gear and started to attack itself due to an auto immune situation. I have been taking oral prednisone as well, but hope that won't have to be repeated in the future. The topical cortisone ointment the dr. rx'd burned and stung and seemed to aggravate my skin, so I stopped using. Also, steroid creams can thin out the delicate skin on your face, so should be used short term and with caution. Hope this may help others.
What’s the 411 on the snail thing! I’m trying to repair my skin with the aveeno calm & restore am/pm then nipple cream 😂 lanolin is fantastic! Also, bepanthen people! I know it’s for babies bum but it works! Or weleda!
It looks like a chemical burn! Cerave healing oitment to the rescue for me everytime. It could be even you are allergic to topical vitamin c as well. I can’t use it it burns my skin. Citrus in skin care is consider fragrance which is the number one reason people are sent to the dermatologist.
Wow I love your detective work 🎉 for last few weeks, I’ve had terrible problems around eyes. I am prone to eczema and I had it in my ears too. Over the course of my adult life, I’ve found two things which ALWAYS work but not cheap and that is Chinese medicine comprising acupuncture and herbs AND red light therapy. I wouldn’t use any of your products because I don’t support animal testing and I’m vegan and there are so many cruelty free options. I still enjoyed your vlog though. When I went last for acupuncture and herbs, I was covered head to toe and it took a long time including removing loads of foods under the guidance of a Chinese doctor. Honestly they were so lovely and supportive and I prefer holistic medicine anyway. I had been free for several years before this so I would recommend. I also think that the body is programmed to heal itself so when in doubt go makeup free and keep things simple. I like coconut oil for cleansing/moisture etc. Thanks again and if you ever fancy doing this subject again but for all your vegan subscribers, that would be lovely. 🙋♀️🙌👏🏼💐🙏💪🇬🇧
How did you know when your skin barrier is healed fully? My skin a month ago was very dull. Now it’s glow it’s holding moisture. It wasn’t a month ago. I’m not sure when to stop doing what I’m doing for my skincare routine to know when it’s fully healed I searched fully healed. Barrier looks like nothing popped up.
Thank you for uploading this! My face is red, have tiny bumps on the forehead and my forehead feels super tight (I even have problem with frowning). So I, unfortunately, think that I am in the same situation now as you were. I’m wondering how often did you do this process? During both morning and before bed? And when you found this right routine, how long did it take for your skin to get better? Thanks in advance
Thanks for watching and commenting! Sorry to hear about your condition. Yes, I did the routine both morning and night before bed. It's important to stay consistent with it. With this routine, it took me about 6 days for me to fully heal from the reaction. Before I found this routine, it took me over 10 days to heal. Hope it helps!
You are so pretty and thank you for this information. Honestly I have used a product for a few years and just became allergic so it happens. I use the same brand but switched to there product that has less ingredients
I’m going through damaged skin barrier due to a second degree sunburn and it keeps flaring up every few weeks. How long did it take your barrier to fully come back?
@Taylin Le at least a month before i could use my skin care products again. Until then, I just used a moisturizer combined with oil multiple times a day.
Hello, I treat my skin in the clinic, but after a while of treatment, my forehead is nothing but dryness, itching and fine lines that were not there. They become present with drought. If you treat yourself, the lines will disappear؟!!؟😭😭😭😭 Because I am very afraid
I need help ! Is the cosrx snail mucin gonna give me an allergic reaction?( my mom is allergic to shrimp and the doctor told her she is allergic to shelled animal and they said i may have the same thing )
if i may give you another unsolicited advice (i am sorry about that 😭) but you might want to start patch testing new products you get just to be safe, also maybe look up basting which is a technique Dr Shereene Idriss came up with that's very efficient for inflammation
I used benzyol peroxide and another cream once for six days,at the third day my skin was red and itchy. I went ro my dermatologist and she told me that it was not a major alergic reaction and told me to continue using it.I used it for six days,it was so red and burning too. Now it's been five days since the medication ended and my face looks orange. I don't use actives rn and moisturize, don't use harsh cleansers, and stick to cleanse, moisturize, sunscreen. İs it okay to be ORANGE? I'am honestly scared that it will not go away,is it a part of the healing process😢

Hi! Im also suffered from unknown allergic reaction around feb too and that cause my face to breakout and leave scars now eventho the allergic is long gone, i guess it messed up my skin barrier later on. Since im new here i would like to know what is yiur skin type and for the dr jart product, do you apply it after all the previous product dried up completely or let it be damp a bit and use it?
Hi! Ugh I'm sorry to hear it left scars 😔 My skin type is dry and sensitive. For the Dr. Jart's Ceramidin cream, I apply it after the Ole Henriksen moisturizer, but I don't necessarily wait for it to dry up first. I just massage the OH moisturizer in until it's been absorbed as much as possible, and then I immediately apply the Ceramidin cream on top

Try Equaphor maximum strength ointment. Put it all over your face at night and leave it on overnight. Some people use Vaseline too but I found Equaphor to really take away the itching. After a year of trial and error I found this was all I needed. Well, besides having to stop exfoliating and no more tanning beds. Hope this helps.

Hey does anyone know how to get rid of the bumpy texture u get once the barrier damage is somewhat repaired My skin isnt red anymore but ive textured skin now Small dots on my face and they arent going I tried to use a salicylic acid serum but it didnt do anything Please help ❤
I've heard that you're not supposed to slug right after applying strong actives like tretinoin because it could make the active more potent and cause more irritation. But it really depends on your skin. I think it's okay to slug on the days you don't use tretinoin to help get rid of the flakiness though
Brands need to stop using essential oils especially orange peel oil and those citrus oils. It’s the dumbest thing to use because so many get reactions to it at some point in their lives.

Hey how did u identify u were allergic to it
I’m going through this right now I’m even afraid of any skin products I’m red and I’m lightskin the nightmare and I have to go to work 😭
Same me to rn,mine been like this for like 3 weeks now,did yours go away?
Could be rosacea or even you use retinol it happens
Can you please share your routine 😭 im going through this since past 2 weeks almost and its a nightmare
Going through the same I’m red all around my mouth from retinol

Vitamin C serum did this to my skin! I am still in the process of repairing my moisture barrier.

I love the cevare hydrating cleanser use this every day as a skin peel badly burnt and damaged my skin - now I don't even exfoliate
Cerave test on animals they are awful
Vitamin c and retinol were the verdicts of my skin allergies. I've been using them for 4+years. 😢 I switched to using products that cause minimal irritation (niacinamide, bakuchiol, centella, and snail mucin). My skin has been better since then. Sadly the reaction left my eyelids dark.
omg i found out i was allergic to oranges through skincare too ! stay away from grape fruit too, they can do this too

@@wplants9793 I'm going through this wondering if you dont mind how you do your skincare routine it'll probably help me bounce my skin back
What has caused your skin to become red ?
What did u do to gt rid of the allergy???

Where do you buy it?🥺
Cerave is my favorite cleanser. At first, I tried not to use it bec I thought it was just the internet hype. But my skin barrier was compromised once. So i tried it. And i understood the reason why it was hyped. And it is different from Cetaphil. Sincw then, I've been buying big cantainers of it bec I know I will love and finish it
What cleanser from them is known for damaged skin barrier repair?
@@daniellaromeo9443foaming cleanser that works for normal to oily skin and the other one that works for normal to dry skin, both have ceramide, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide that's good for skin barrier.
Dr Jart Ceramidin was a game changer for me. Even for 48 bucks it’s worth it
I recently went through the same reactive skin situation and I always use the CosRx snail mucin!! It's so good!
Hopefully it'll work 😢
❤thank you for sharing, it’s very brave of you to wanna share and help others that is going through the same🙏🏻 Bless you❤️
Thanks, some days I don’t like wearing sunscreen on my face so I would wear a hat that can block the sun rays, and this is how I started wearing hats.
@@Dan24. about 4/5 days. try zic ointment over night or better ask a derm 😅
I personally wish there were more options without hyloronic acid. I tend to not react great to things with that ingredient. I like the la roche posay toleraine cleanser and moisturizer. Neither contain hyloronic acid
just got home from purchasing everything because my barrier is f*cked lol. Thanks for the the reccs
Hey. Did the products help your skin barrier?
+1 how is your skin barrier now?
Guys if you have an irritated skin and have nothing that help with apply a thick layer of Vaseline at night believe or not does work .but yes not as a permanent solution but help with irritation.
Omg! Khiels facial wash did this to my skin. I use to have oily skin but now after 2 weeks of using khiels my face became dry itchy rough and very dry.
I'm in the process of healing mine now, I used hyaluronic and my skin does not like it at all, my face looks like your did. 😭

So weird, I have the exact same issue as you from the same time last year. Did you find anything that worked? I’m sick of looking like I have sunburn
Im going through the same issue now. How is your skin so far? Has your skin barrier healed already?
What’s the 411 on the snail thing! I’m trying to repair my skin with the aveeno calm & restore am/pm then nipple cream 😂 lanolin is fantastic! Also, bepanthen people! I know it’s for babies bum but it works! Or weleda!

I had an allergic reaction using a vitamin c product. I wonder if I'm also allergic to oranges 😯
You should try to find all the ingredients that product have, because is not always the main ingredient
Which vit c product ?

Did you use the thicker cream/occlusive during the day or only at night?
I used benzyol peroxide and another cream once for six days,at the third day my skin was red and itchy. I went ro my dermatologist and she told me that it was not a major alergic reaction and told me to continue using it.I used it for six days,it was so red and burning too. Now it's been five days since the medication ended and my face looks orange. I don't use actives rn and moisturize, don't use harsh cleansers, and stick to cleanse, moisturize, sunscreen.

Cwn we do slugging with tretinoin? I got flakey and peeled skin because i incorporate tretion in my routine. Do u think it will be helpfull??
I've heard that you're not supposed to slug right after applying strong actives like tretinoin because it could make the active more potent and cause more irritation. But it really depends on your skin. I think it's okay to slug on the days you don't use tretinoin to help get rid of the flakiness though
