In the meantime, I'd check Dr Dray who has several barrier videos and Dr. Idriss who has a barrier video that covers the body and her recent winter skincare one.
@@beautifulvictory9683 What’s wrong with Dr.Dray? She has several videos on barrier repair for face and body and her product recommendations are pretty good.
Paula's Choice recently came out with an ultra gentle mandelic acid and lactic acid exfoliator that also has ingredients that promotes the skin's microbiome. Sounds great and my sensitive skin can't wait to try it.
I have highly sensitive, combination, acne prone and very fair skin (i.e a total nightmare) so I make changes to my routine very gradually or I just break out in hives or acne. Last night I started this routine with *just* the avene creme and it went on very thick and a little bit greasy and I assumed I’d wake up with a face full of white heads. But my skin is so dry and irritated atm so I’m kind of desperate. To my amazement I woke up with plump, soft skin with no (new) spots and I’m so pleased. Just to say this video gives excellent advice. Thank you!
I was using La Roche Posay Double Repair for about a year and at first I liked it. But lately I found it not hydrating enough for me. I tried the Inkey List one based on your recommendation and I LOVE it. My skin feels so hydrated and soft. And, it really plumps my skin and my foundation looks so much better. The texture and pores are less noticeable. It’s $20 and you only need a little bit so it will last. Thank you!
The Avene Cicalfate moisturizer has become a staple for me - I got it as a sample a few months ago and immediately ordered the full size after using it for a few days. My skin is very sensitive and dry and gets red and chapped and flaky in the cold winter months. This stuff is really healing and hydrating - I find that the white cast only lasts about 5-10 minutes until it melts in/absorbs into my skin as it warms up. I apply it at night immediately after showering to ensure maximum absorption and moisture retention. It leaves my skin looking so dewy and hydrated and really helps calm the redness for a more even skin tone. Highly recommend and was excited to see it in this barrier repair routine! Thanks Dr. Locke! 😊
I've been doing your Routine morning and night for two weeks . And my face feels so good.. Thanks.. I'm going to add some of the stuff from this video.
The cocokind ceramides serum has made a huge difference on my skin. I don't like heavy cream during winter because I always feel it clogs my pores and cause some eruptions overtime. So I stick with my oat gel moisturizer from Aveeno but I needed something more effective during winter. Adding this serum was a game changer for me and the price is very affordable. Maybe you could try it too someday😊 would be cool to have your opinion about it.
My skin barrier has been going strong ever since I started watching you and learning about awesome products. One of my most faves is Avène. It has worked. Wonders for my skin 💖
Every product I have tried that you have recommended has been a winner! Thank you for all the helpful information you have passed along. Not to mention that they are more affordable products is such a bonus❤
going to Ulta today for that Avene Hyaulron Activ B3 serum...it is $40 but if it works it is worth the price. I dont mind paying a little more for a product if it works and does what it claims...we shall see! Also suggest using a humidifier in the winter if you live in an area like me were the winters are HARSH...as the indoor heat is not your skin's friend.
I live your educational videos on skin care products as well. I would love to see you do a video on dark circles as mine are really bad and need some help on this. Thank you
How do you know when it is 'fixed'? Would love some more routines with pdfs, it was really handy to have that to follow - anti-aging maybe or dealing with spots/pimples rather than all out acne
The Glossier niacinamide + zinc serum has the 5% niacinamide for cheaper. Here Avene serum is 75$ for 30 ml, that's definitely not cheap unfortunately. CeraVe has good ceramides moisturizers and Purito Dermide is a solid one also, but there's a lot of plant extracts in it.
I’m using the cerave tinted spf as my “face makeup”, but I also like using a glow primer. Would you recommend I use the glow primer before or after the cerave tinted spf? Thank you for your videos, they are definitely helping me improve my skin care routine.❤
Great video packed with good info. Love that you also went all out and are providing us with the pdfs. Thank you. Will you please do a complete video reviewing and discussing some of The Ordinary skincare products and tell us more about each and what they do? Also, if you would or would not reco.mend them. Some that come to mind are; Azealic acid, anger aline, matrixol, copper serum, the Buffet, aha peel, etc. Thanks again.
Are all of these products non comedogenic? I am about 4 months into my tretinoin journey and am finding my skin has much different needs now than it did before tretinoin. I love the sound of this routine but would want to make sure all of the products are non comedogenic and safe for acne prone skin. The last thing I need is to add to my ace issues! (I do know to avoid any acids so those would be a no no!)
Dr Locke, would the Inkey List Bio Active Ceramide Moisturizer be great also for the sandwich technique with Adapalene (Differin)? Also, would this skin barrier reset routine be appropriate for the days that follow microneedling Qure? Microneedling on Friday, skin barrier reset routine on Saturday and Sunday? Than, 4 sets of your "3 day skin cycling routine". On the twelve day: Qure, reset routine (2 days), 4 sets of "3 day skin cycling routine". Repeat😊
Thank you for your continuing education! Would you recommend using glycolic acid before vitamin c in the morning or before tretinoin at night? Or don’t combine with either?
but can i use diffrent cleanser in a day? like using hydrating facial cleanser in morning, then at night acne foaming cream cleanser? Especially I'm acne prone skin.
Dumb question, but who is the ideal candidate for this routine? Is it best for individuals affected by dryness/flaking, redness & irritation? Or is this something everyone should do? Will EVERYONE likely see some sort of improvement in their skin’s appearance & texture? Or will only those suffering from skin barrier problems (if that’s even ‘a thing’) see a difference? There’s just sooo many skin care options in terms of addressing particular problems so I’m trying to figure out if I should go this route or find a routine more tailored towards the major issues I’m facing… Also does one continue this routine for the foreseeable future? Or does one stop once their barrier has been restored?? Sorry soooo many questions!!! You’re just SOOOO AMAZING & an absolute fountain of knowledge!!! & I’m just trying to be a sponge & suck as much up as I can lol 😊
The focus on repairing skin barrier came after people started using too many exfoliants and irritating products (retinol, vitamin C, AHA/BHA, niacinamides etc). People just went overboard and used too many and too much, and this led to irritation. Also a problem for people who live in hot, dry climates and during the winter when we're prone to dry skin. Listen to your skin, it tends to feel raw and 'burnt', or you have very irritated red or dry looking skin. That suggests broken skin barrier (though skin by definition is a barrier😂). You're absolutely right in that you're always better off in addressing YOUR specific skincare needs. If your skin moisture feels okay, and your skin doesn't feel inflamed or overly dry, then you're best just focusing on what you think your skin needs (be it pigmentation, lines or whatever). Far better to do one thing consistently than mix and match or try and do everything at once.
Also, it honestly depends on how your skin is. Do you notice a difference in your skin with different seasons? The skin is dynamic and always renewing/turning over ever 30 days. So there will be seasons when you need a thicker moisturiser, and times when you need something light/gel like. It honestly varies, listen to you skin. Some people need to do this consistently for weeks, some people only need to do this in winter, some people need to do this regularly because of the climates they live in, or their health conditions (eczema etc). But it's often for a time and then you just reassess to see what your skin feels like
@@lerangm thank you so much for your detailed responses! I really appreciate the help & explanation. I really only experience issues w/ my hands during the winter (dry, cracking skin/eczema) from the cold & frequent hand washing. It’s never a problem during the summer though. Hello! Love all your videos! I was curious to know, what do you think about devices like Medicube Age-r Booster-h? I've dry skin and I think a device like that might help with products' absorption...
I think this routine is targeted towards repairing barrier. So those would be nights where you'd skip active ingredients prescriptions that irritate the barrier because they have the opposite effect to repairing the barrier. Generally speaking you can go use it after moisturizing serum if you want a 'buffer' to the tretinoin. Or you can Less is more, so try to skip too many actives and just focus on moisture + barrier. Or have dedicated days where you just focus on one thing only (moisture only) vs days where you optimize the exfoliant
You have to check to see what products are safe for skin. You're better off buying dedicated eye creams, because they make different creams for different needs (super hydrating eye creams, light gel like eye creams, Vaseline etc)
