Pro Racer's Take: 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack

The Hellcat Redeye’s 797 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque never get old, and real racers will never tell you they have enough power, but what can the “junior” model do? So we returned to the NCM Motorsports Park road course and wheeled out a 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack. Its 6.4-liter, 392 ci V-8 doesn’t have the Hellcat’s supercharger or make the same gobsmacking dyno numbers, but in the real world, 485 hp at 6,100 rpm and 475 lb-ft at 4,100 rpm tend to be plenty good for most situations. The challenger comes from the factory with some pretty bad tires. Dodge should sell them with stickier tires so they can do much better on tracks and drag strips because those p zeros can’t handle that car.

The Scatpack widebody is the best bang for the buck from the Challenger in my opinion... I had a Hellcat 8AT

So the scat pack has better handling than the redeye. I figured as much since it has less weight on the front, better weight distribution, and a stiffer suspension than the redeye. On a track that has almost no straights I’m going to guess the scat pack would take the win against the redeye.

The hellcat does not stop that much easier with those brembo brakes which does give the advantage to rhe scatpack

Stormtrooper 2323 they have the same brakes. I think it’s more on the suspension setup more than anything.

@@LILKRANKIN same brakes for almost 300hp difference does effect in sharp corners but yeah suspension does change that. I heard the scat pack widebody has the same suspension as the hellcat. Dont know if thats true or not

Stormtrooper 2323 from what I heard the scat pack has a stiffer suspension setup and the lack of a supercharger also helps with weight.

True. Dodge has always underrated their engines hp output. Not always, but almost always with high performance engines

@@chrislittle1648 not sure how seeing as the 1LE hit 60 MPH 4 tenths quickers (4.1 vs 4.5) than the Scat Pack. If what you say is true then the SP must be a straight up beast on the big end while the 1LE must fall on its face on the big end. If the new LT motors are anything similar to the old LS motors then the big end is where they shine the most.

The 1320 Scat Pack will run 11.7, which is over a half second faster.

Challenger is on p zeros whereas the camaro is on what f1 supercars? would be interesting to see the times on a more comparable tire.

I've got an R/T Plus and a Scat Pack. I track them both. They turn just fine.
