Dodge Challenger R/T Scatpack Widebody Manual Review

- The 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scatpack Widebody is an interesting middle choice in a range of 9, yes count 'em 9 different Challengers. Yes, the name is ridiculous. It's just a list of features. Who puts all the features in the name? FCA does.
This car is special though because it's a freakin' manual! Most people take their Challenger to the dragstrip. I'm a rebel. I took it to the canyons. Let's see if it this 4,200 lb, 392 cubic inch, 485hp, 6 speed manual behemoth can go around corners.

Mine's only an R/T (5.7L Hemi engine, 375 HP, 410 lb-ft TQ), but mated to the same manual transmission. I love it!
6.4 not 6.2. Great video otherwise, keep up the good work.
Ahh indeed! Brain fart while driving
@@D-Man_Jam You're right. Sometimes driving it's a bit challenging to talk!
@@D-Man_Jam nope it's a 6.4
@@D-Man_Jam nope. Convert 392 cubic inches to liters
@@D-Man_Jam only the Hellcat has 6.2 L.
I own a 2021 octane red Widebody 392 Charger. The Widebody kit gives you an upgraded suspension and 305's all around for track use. The common misconception that these cars can't take corners comes from people who have never driven a 392. I regularly attend an SRT performance driving school so I really know how to handle these big powerful American Muscle Cars.
It still has that engine note that puts a stupid smile on your face. I rented a 2018 R/T while in Florida and i had the same stupid smile on my face the whole week.
I have a soft spot for that v8 sound!
Definitely a video that deserves a bunch of views. Very well edited, I can see how much work you put into it. Good stuff!
Thanks man!
Best looking modern car. Will be a timeless classic looked back on with lurve
This is an awesome machine especially with manual transmission
It’s a hoot to drive!
It does corner very well. You can also attend an SRT performance driving school where they will teach to handle these beasts like a pro. People who say these Scats and Cats can't turn have simply never driven them or have zero performance driver training.
If I want a Challenger that goes around corners, I would buy the scatpack and if you want to have just a tad more power just do a intake, exhaust, tune and some weight reduction more and that will be a fun car. Great video!!🔴🔴
Glad you liked it!
Yes. This car is 200lbs lighter than the Hellcat widebody
That launch control is awesome. Great review Eric. Great intro too :)
Thanks :) yeah it’s pretty effective actually.
It is rare to get a manual these days
Automatics are taking over
RevMatchTV yeah but manual is better
@@revmatchtv that is true it's cool that's Dodge still sells manual cars
Fortunately so does Ford, Chevy, Mazda, Porsche and a few others
@@basithph8958 Def more fun!
Underrated channel right here!
Hopefully not for long. Spread the word!
One of the best reviews out there!
Great video! Where was this video filmed? The landscape looks very nice. The Dodge too, of course :). Greetings from a Swiss Challenger driver :).
Loved your review Eric. Really good job! You should do more of these.
I will!
"2019 Dodge Challenger, but does it corne-"
Everyone: *_No_*
Hhahaa I sent it in the canyons
I got a response?! 😱
You're wrong about the cornering just bought the widebody scat pack and it is an absolute joy to drive even around corners. Test drive one I think you would be just as surprised as I was. Yes it's big and yes it's heavy but you can take this car to a road course and have a lot of fun. If you haven't driven one don't knock it till you try it. What do you think the batmobile really is?hmmmm.
@@winstoneaton4468 Yeah, well around a small(ish) track, even a Type R beats it. The track is not it's party trick, In the least bit.
I'm thinking this means you can't afford one. Don't hate on it because you can't have it,life is to short for that.
Yes dodge did a good job expect my “stick stick” 🤣 my daily driver is a journey sooo just here asking questions because I need to take care of my bee girl lol
damn revmatch reallly stepped up the production quality, kudos!!
FatBananas it looks great, like an episode if OG Top Gear.
Gotta love that american muscle sound
It sounds amazing 😉
Excellent point about the heel width of your shoes when trying to heel-and-toe. That is a significant quality of life consideration. Thank you!
For me it’s a huge deal! However I realize that only a very small percentage of people know how to do this.
@@revmatchtv That kind of attention to detail makes a huge difference. Thank you for your dedication to your craft.
Glad you appreciated it
Driving shoes makes it easier!
The guitar music in the beginning reminds me of the Dukes of Hazzard.
Ahh, I didn't think of that. Just going for a country vibe =)
What about the orange challenger? 🤪
I got 4.5 0-60 on a 98 degree day with my wife, a trunk full of groceries ,and camping equipment in the trunk in mine, got it on video
That’s pretty solid.
Got 3.9 0-60 with me and my gf on 325 888R Toyos in the rear
Poor groceries lol
Great job reviewing the Dodge Challenger . Really enjoyed the video hope you do more car reviews.
I will :)
Really good editing and production on this video
As a Corvette owner and fanboy...this car is a great deal for the money
If I were into Dodge cars, this would be the biggest poser car straight out of the factory. Dodge really screwed hellcat and demon owners by offering every body panel to the lower end model Challengers. Pull up to a red light and your avg person wont know the difference
There are 9 versions of this car!
Your average person also won't care though
av iator smith There’s a Challenger for everyone. It currently outsells the Camaro.
That goes for every car though. If you have a z06 people don’t know the difference from a stingray. If you have any mustang they can’t tell the difference... you get the point. There’s always a cheaper worse version to all sports cars
You mean just like the Grand Sport? It’s fun to have all the good handling & braking bits with more usable power.
Nice job on this! Fun to see someone review a manual beefcake car like this. If I was going for pure muscle car style, I probably would pick the wide body Challenger over the Mustang or Camaro.
Thanks:) Such a fun car with the manual. Not the car I’d personally buy, but I definitely see the appeal of it.
Inquiring minds want to know what car you would buy!!!! Can you please give us your top two or 3? 🙏 😉
@@moviefan4life166 Muscle cars? Probably GT350, Hellcat, Camaro ZL1. I'm way more into Japanese cars though.
Ahaaaa the starting 🔥🔥🔥
hehe trying to keep it funny
@Peder Hansen He's a master!
Everybody wants one of these. I got mine. Not for an investment but to drive. New cars will be always coming out. When they do I'll get another one if I need it.
It's a great car to buy and keep. In fact, just any sports car with a V8 is a keeper at this point.
The 2013 had a better console design for manual. I have one and it is great!
Awesome video of an amazing car. I just bought a 2020 last week, and I’m still getting used to it. A couple of questions… has this car been lowered in the rear? Mine sits a bit high, and I’m wanting to lower just the rear, so it sits more like this one. I’ve lowered several cars in the past with H&R, Eibach, etc., but I don’t want to go that route with this car. Can the coil hats be exchanged for thinner ones, or something simple like that? Or maybe substitute other Mopar springs in the back? Hellcat rear coils are a little less lb/in, at 700, vs the WB springs at 778. Maybe that would lower the rear a skosh?
For the heal-toe issue, I noticed it right away, and want to address it. I’m thinking of making a spacer and putting it between the pedal and the pedal cover, to raise it just 3/8 to 1/2 an inch. That would be such an improvement!
Thanks again for a great video! Pass along any ideas you might have to my questions, please!
well you CAN corner if you wanna look like a scene from Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift
Yes, this car will drift =)
The appeal for a Challenger for most owners is the fact you dont have to sacrifice a lot. The trunk is cavernous, car seats can go in the back, you can transport 4 other adults if you choose, and its comfortable for a long cruise.
The only real compromise is terrible fuel economy, but that’s a given with the cars in this class. I had so much fun in this thing!
@@revmatchtv it's really not that bad. 22 highway for 485 HP isn't bad considering many turbo 4s making 300 hp are around that fuel economy. Even Hellcats hit 22.
Robert I saw an average of 14 mpg over 600+ miles
My 300hp turbo 4 Audi S3 averaged 26 highway. The Challenger gets about 1/2 the mileage. In the city the Audi got about 22, while the Challenger was getting about 11 for me. I have a heavy foot. I think most drivers will too.
I typically get 20 mpg in my SPWB. It's an even mix of city/highway in eco mode. When I go on long highway trips, it gets better. Even if there's other cars that can do better on fuel, I truly don't care. Having way too much fun to give up my Challenger.
Really great video! Which area is the one where you tested the Challenger?
Looks like CA-198 west of Coalinga
I like where this channel is going.
There will be more :)
LOL 0:02 into the video and I'm ded.
One of your best videos
Thanks:) More reviews coming
Very good video. (For you info, a tire doesn’t come in a “section“; the middle number is an aspect ratio normally called a “series”.
The “section” width refers to the width of the tires in mm. I don’t remember what I said here, but yes you’re right on aspect ratio.
Mines a manual- Just not wide body. Glad to see other people still drive stick. And yes you always know what gear you’re in. 🤣🤣
Try being 5’1 with those ergonomics and a funky 2nd gear stick with my manual. I’ve asked at the dealership and they’re clueless because they don’t have the issue but it’s a weird thing where I have to use both hands to slam it in 2nd. I’ve had bigger people than me drive the car and they’re like “oh yeah it’s hard” but I’m still lost on why it would be so hard to shift. I don’t ever use launch control and I drive it like a grandma most of the time. I most “stick” when coming out of my driveway. And it’s not my daily driver so is this a thing from letting it sit too long? Thanks for reading lol
You have to drive it hard get the gears used to getting banged but if you miss gears too much it will start doing this sometimes
It's built in Canada Eric !!!
Buying mine cash tomorrow. Been waiting 6 weeks for them to build & deliver it
Congrats! You’re gonna love it.
Not coming until Monday 😤 I love it 0.1% less now 😂
Nifty Critter So how do you like it? Does your face hurt from all the smiles
It’s been a dream come true. Truly
Thanks for the great review - yours popped up on google 1st page in my search... nice job there. I'm looking for something to fill my last garage spot - in the running are the Scat Pack Wide Body, Corvette C5 ZR1, C7 Z06, C8 fresh out of the box. - I would like to get a set of golf clubs in the trunk so the Camaro SS is borderline with that tiny trunk opening. The Mustang line up is fast for sure but the cheaply built interiors won't do it for me. - (All could b e had under 40K except the new C8)
with my last Challenger I would just rev the engine with the clutch in just before i would brake
Not 6.2liter, but a 6.4 liter ohv V8.
392 CID for us Americans.
No 1 NEEDS a car like this, well, SURPRISE, I DOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Why do you think the name is weird? The Dodge "Scat Pack" originated during the late 60's as the performance group of cars that Dodge was selling (Dart, Charger, Challenger, Coronet R/T, Super Bee). Plymouth had their own version in the RTS (Rapid Transit System).
It’s a very long name. It’s ridiculously long. Dodge is hardly the only offender here! BMW is just as bad.
@@revmatchtv I agree it could have been played out a bit differently, like how they did in the late 60's. None of those original cars used "Scat Pack" in their actual names. It was more a part of the ad campaign for performance Dodges at the time. Though if you look back, you would never just say "I own a '70 Challenger" without adding R/T, the engine size and number of carburetors it had on it (i.e. '70 440 Six-Pack Challenger R/T).
Exactly. Makes sense as options, not as the full name. The Mustang has short understandable names without the specific options in the name.
ZL1 rock guards are a must for widebody. If not, you're paint is going to get damaged.
My 2018 Dodge Charger Scat Pack automatic... 4.6 seconds 0-60 all day. Not sure what you’re missing.
This is a manual and it was over 100.
Turn all the electronic assists off and launch without launch control you can get around 4.4-4.6 in the manual. Low 4's in the auto
@@Nowheretorun7 I got 3.8 best consistently 4.0 4.1 but imma manual guy now how to drive one well.
Get your numbers right brother
"this is all about drama". Yes. Yes it is. Now hand over the key, please ;)
Goodness gracious man it's a 6.4
the next challenger and charger should transition from muscle to sports car, they can always use the alfa gulia platform and bring the weight down close to mustang and camaro.
It would be interesting if they moved to the Guilia platform, but I read that they may develop an entirely new one for the car and make it just a little smaller and lighter. The Giulia is significantly smaller.
Car & Driver said the T / A 392 is the best handling Challenger EVER
It’s darn good for it’s heft!
Thinking about getting this with the Shaker
Good choice! Fun car!
It is but lol the color I wish they just do all black then having me go out and have it repainted
Merican muscle...made in Canada lol now waiting on mine... 2021 scat pack...manual.(WHICH I NEED TO PAY FOR IN CANADA).. White Knuckle 275's not the 305's
Not a fan of these at all!
But I like you man :)
Appreciate it! I wasn't expecting to like it so much, but it was a hoot!
You know that’s why there are so many different cars out there a flavor for everyone
Sent this to my son to watch
Thanks man!
5 seatbelts. 🎉
the competition for this car is nice, but i wouldn't trade mine for them. no way. ...and im glad it's auto.
It’s a really fun, visceral car. For best acceleration, auto is the obvious choice
I like Tremec transmissions. Sounds like it’s a struggle because the car is so heavy.
The trans is very good and satisfying to shift. The only real issue for me is the pedal placement. Otherwise it’s a very enjoyable transmission.
RevMatchTV That’s why you have to drive it. Nice job. Looks like you put a lot of work in your videos.
@@rickjason215 Thanks Rick. This one was a few days of work. I really liked the shift action overall on this transmission. Very enjoyable.
I know that they say that if you have to ask what the cost is, you can't afford it, but please just humor me.
This particular example is completely loaded, so it’s $55k.
Manual
yea iv gotten 4.3 on my scat with the paddles. its too easy
485lb-ft of torque? 🤔
Does anyone know for sure which colorway this is on this particular Challenger? Thanks.
I think this Go Mango. I don't know if they still offer this color.
@@revmatchtvthanks!
I test drove a 2019 Challenger Scat Pack a couple days ago. I had on Brooks shoes, and I could not heel toe. My foot hit the carpet on the side. In my 2018 Mustang GT, I can easily do it though. Also, what's up with the bent shifter? I'm sure you would get used to it, but it felt so weird changing gears. Car was still really fun, but I'm gonna stick with my Mustang for now... maybe get a manual Hellcat one day!
Do we not know that it has automatic rev matching. I know this is a year old comment. But maybe this will help you in the future
havent drivin it yet but the shifter looks kool
How come the car rolled back a little with launch control on? Is launch control similar to a line lock?
I was on a slight hill. I believe launch control adjusts the power to each wheel to maximize traction. The car does have Line Lock listed on the spec sheet, but I didn't test it enough times to check for rollback. I don’t think i pressed the brake pedal first when doing a launch so I’d guess that’s it.
Would you say that heel/toe is totally impossible or something that is hard to do but still worth it if your want to buy this car? Thanks!
Not impossible its kind of easy if your experienced my Father drove the exact same car but Not Widebody 2017 Scat Pack this guy is just a bit biased
I want to know from you about The Stradman and Shmee. Pls!
I haven't met the Stradman, but I have met Shmee. Tim is a REALLY nice guy. We got to hang out for a little bit at the C8 launch
@@revmatchtv I wish one day you could at least do a collab or you 2 hang out together somewhere.
Julian Salem I have hung out with Shmee for a bit and we had a nice chat. He’s a very friendly fellow! I think I posted on Instagram :)
@@revmatchtv I mean with Strad.
Moral of the story. Don't drive the Challenger with running shoes. It's a cool car, no doubt. I drove one but went with a Camaro SS instead. The Camaro feels A LOT more capable, nimbler, sportier but still fast asf.
You would think they would have designed the interior a bit better.
They updated it about 2 years ago. I think it's on par with the Mustang and Camaro except it has more space. It's very comfortable. I like the cooled seats a lot.
Does it say the oil temp was at 320???? That is way too hot Its at 8:10 of the video
6.4 Sir
My mistake
470 lb ft of torque and 6.4 not 6.2*
Noone gonna talk about how he called the supra a German car?
I own a 2020 Supra. It’s a BMW tuned by Toyota. It’s a fun car
01:08 no its 6.4L :)
0:02 😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
mileage???? imo, almost infinite smiles per gallon!
5.3 0 to 60???? MY 5.7 6 speed runs 5.1.
I’ve run a 3.9 on an aggressive 325 street tire on shirty pavement with a passenger
Why in hell is it named both R/T and Scatpack?!
Multiple options
Challengers dont handle because the factory has historically put crappy tires on a big heavy car. Ridiculous. This car needs some Michelins, Toyos, or Nitto NT01s. Even the summer Pirellis are no match for the weight. The shifter ergonomic flaw is because of your size. Im 6' 245 and the shifter is inline.
The final answer is yes the car will handle fine on the road and does quite well on larger road coarses especially the Redeye or Hellcats which are even heavier but again require the best tires to give it grip. In the end if you are more interested in handling buy a GT350R, slightly used Z28, or a C6 Z06 all in this price range. I drive my car(2016 M6 Hellcat) on the street and it handles just fine.
You're right. I have the '19 SPWB and the 305 Pirelli tires are total garbage. I put Continental tires on it and the difference is night and day. Dodge should offer something much better.
5.3 seconds is not the numbers it does 60 in 4.5 or 4.4
Does anyone else think it is weird that the ebrake is on the floor on this stick? It seems like the car was really set up for a auto.
It could be, but hey - at least we get the option. The transmission has great feel.
It's a Mercedes-based design and yes, it was always noted by road testers during the period that MB used it that it was awkward to use on a car with a manual transmission. Of course, even back then most Mercs were delivered as autos so not as much a problem. Nowadays, the existence of hill holder fitted as standard to the Challenger pretty much nullifies the issue especially where it matters on hill take offs.
Too Heavy in my opinion! Il Stick with my ZL1 1LE Thank you! Run circles around that thing! Road and especially Track!
The Mustang and Camaro are full on sports cars. This is still a bit of a cruiser that handles. I agree, it's too heavy. The new GT500 weighs about the same amazingly.
yeah if you live at the track but if you want a comfortable car the Camaro is not it, bumped my head on my first test drive on one of those things getting in it, not sure how you would wear a helmet and God forbid if you get in a wreck, my coworkers flipped when hydroplaned in a ditch, hit a driveway and the car tumbled end over end and landed upside down in the drainage ditch. Almost drowned before rescue got to him. Could not pull him out the window. No thanks I'll pass on the Camaro
@@Sky1 funny because my 15 camaro hydroplaned and was crushed between multiple trees. Saved my life and even the emt's said if it was a challenger or mustang it would have killed me.
Lol 😆 ! 6.2 ? It's a 6.4.
Yup, I definitely misspoke
Gain 60 lbs and youll be able to heel / toe dude wtf ?
I stoled my sons R/T for a weekend. I have to say it’s better than viagra and screams midlife crisis. However i do owe him some nee back tires. Couldn’t resist when it was just that easy to smoke them off
It’s quite the fun ride!
Yes it is im hooked
5.3 sec is embarrassing.
Hi
Hi 👋
6.4 L bud.
Supra is not German!!
gabe321 sure is
This one sort of is. It's based heavily on it's German counterpart, as it was part of a joint collaboration with BMW.
You need to heal and toe right into something else you’re just not Dodge material
Not the best car for heel and toe but I still love it for what it is.
My goodness....a supra is a Toyota(Japanese), not German.... you probably shouldn't be doing car reviews
Not quite. It a collaboration with BMW and is based heavily on its German counterpart.
@Crankitup1 Then what's the challenger? Canadian or Mexican?
@Crankitup1 hmmphh...
Alright then. Well done. My apologies. Thanks for your time and info. You should absolutely keep doing vids!!!
I shall subscribe.
Yawn, dated and old car. Is Dodge ever going to update these?
Hopefully within the next couple years. They’re still selling well, but I’d prefer to see a lighter chassis.
No, because its the last of the "muscle" cars that actually still looks like a muscle car.
Can't afford 1 huh?
Hopefully not , last true muscle car
No one really needs one?
No one really needs fun and joy?
