On the Hood of my cub73 I used Rust-Oleum bare metal primer then 2 cans of Fast dry Colorplace White from Walmart $2.48 per can & it looks Original. I did sand it with 800 grit after the 1st can it drys super fast between coats & just used painters tape over the original decals turned out perfect.
Wow... For $2.48 a can I may have to try that experiment myself. I do know that the there's an "old" white and a "new" white so may not work for every model.
@@TheBrokenLife my cubs a 1969 Cub Cadet73 it's the old white. I was going to use Rust-Oleum "Canvas White" but nobody had it in stock. The Color Place is very close to the original white.
@@miguelsalami I read up on this a little and your shade of white is a little more white than what mine should be. 😆 Apparently you have "901" white, and mine would be "935" white. I think the stuff from the '90s and onward is yet another shade of white that is even more beige. Soo... A good tip for sure for the guys with pre-1970 tractors. Probably not a good match for we folks with wide frames. That said... for $3 I'm still going to get a can and see what it looks like.
@@TheBrokenLifeI will say it dries much faster than regular spray can paint. After sanding I had to go much slower & overlap to get a smooth finish without any dry areas. The final finish is a Semi gloss so if you want a high gloss finish you will have to clear coat it.
I agree. The stuff seems to be much higher quality. I do think with some careful planning you could probably save a few dollars on a restoration by painting this or that with the cheaper stuff.
Love the 149 videos. I’m watching them all tonight. Great content. My dad owned a 149 when I was growing up. It was my first tractor when I built my house and I sold it. Big regret.
Thanks for the compliments! I believe I've rambled on for several hours about the 149 so you've got your work cut out for you! I've got a couple more in the can and nearly ready to be released in the coming weeks too. There are still lots of these tractors out there if you feel like you need one back in your life. There are guys that will give them away just to keep them from being scrapped.
Rustoleum has A Caterpillar Yellow that is strong and is an Identical match. That's what I've been using for years and I've never had any issues, And its $6 a can. This Is A very Good demonstration though, Great video.
No, just a few parts here any there. If I were going to do an entire tractor, I'd be pretty tempted to have the paint custom mixed and shoot it with a gun. I think it would be a lot less expensive in the long run.
I'm just trying to match tractor supply brands magic quarts of their cub yellow to a spray can, That way i can spray small parts with the rattle can instead of breaking out the spray gun and dealing with the cleaning. its a nightmare, and i didn't tear the whole tractor apart to not have it match as far as paint goes!!
Forget MAGIC BRAND PAINT. it MAGIC-LY changes color within a few months. All the Magic colors fade within 6 months and takes days to dry. Valspar - Transportation Yellow, IH White are a good colors if you can find it!!! Rust-oleum FARM Cat yellow, sold in LOWES, & Rust-oleum their Antique White sold at Walmart is a perfect match'. Federal Yellow is School Bus Yellow is Cat Yellow is Transport Yellow, all good! different manufactures use different names but these are the same color yellow. The White- Rust-oleum Antique White is a fantastic choice on the white for wheels and anything else that looks white.
As I recall, that $4 can was on super sale when I got it. I think regular price was something like $7 or $8 at the time. In worse news... the Cub Cadet paint, which always was priced insanely, is now even more astronomical at $34/can. 😳 I should have bought a pallet of it. 🤣

I have seen some Cub Cadet yellow paint at Tractor Supply. It is their store brand of farm and implement paint.
I've been told the TSC color is for "new" Cubs and is a brighter yellow. I've never tried it myself.
I tried the TSC brand Cub cadet yellow it doesn't match the old tractors only the newer models, Rust-Oleum Marigold is what I used on my 124
Working on a cub riding mower now. Great info. Awesome video!
Thanks! 👍
Good luck with yours!
Use a silver paint over the primer. It will make the yellow much brighter.
6:30 Well, it looks like there is a darn good reason the Rustoleum is $4 and the Cub Cadet is $20.

@@TheBrokenLife what color paint match for 627804X6 Murray Ultra Snow blower?
@@savipv8491 I don't have any idea. Sorry.
I can see the difference. The Cub Cadet color, does look a little more darker, maybe a brownish tint to it.
The best way I could describe it, in person, is that the generic paint is a little too "Tweety Bird". 😂
It does seem to be holding up OK though.
I've been using Rustoleum Marigold colored paint and it's a pretty close to matching in my eyes.
Good to know! 👍
@@TheBrokenLifeI can confirm it’s almost an exact match also for the off white, I use Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy Almond. Almost an exact match.

Close enough. I have an old red 10cuft dump trailer that I am going to paint yellow to match my Cub Cadet XT1. Close enough is more then good enough.
Whatever works. 👍
